Democratic politicians regularly pronounce, “I support the Second Amendment but….” Whether it’s Hillary Clinton or some local candidate positioning themselves to gain or maintain political power, the “but” is followed by the euphemism-du-jour for violating the Constitution’s clear prohibition against infringement on Americans’ right to keep and bear arms. At the moment, it’s “common sense gun safety” legislation.

It’s not an unsuccessful ploy. Many, maybe even most Americans don’t know what the U.S. Constitution is, never mind the text or meaning of the Second Amendment. Or any Amendment, including the Bill of Rights. Or the Constitution’s role within our three-part system of government.

How could they? Setting aside questions about the efficacy, accuracy or political bias of public school civics education, our good friends at huffingtonpost.com report that some 32 million American adults can’t read, while 21 percent of those that can read do so below a fifth grade level.

Chances are they’ve never read the Second Amendment. Contemplate its meaning and import? As the Brits say, you must be joking, mate. So, without much ado about something, here’s the current draft of the Democratic Party Platform 2016:

Judges

We will appoint judges who defend the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all, protect a woman’s right to safe and legal abortion, curb billionaires’ influence over elections because they understand that Citizens United has fundamentally damaged our democracy, and see the Constitution as a blueprint for progress.

See what the Dems did there? They defend “constitutional principles” and then declare that the Constitution is more like a guideline than a set of rules. In other words, “we support the Constitution, but…we’re not really bound by it.” Which is another way of saying “Take your Constitution and shove it.”

Make no mistake: any government that violates your natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms — clearly enumerated by the Second Amendment and incorporated by the Supreme Court’s McDonald v. City of Chicago decision — will happily trample on your other rights as well.

Which would be your government. All current firearms laws restricting the keeping and bearing of arms — from background checks to magazine capacity restrictions to the general ban on modern machine guns — are unconstitutional.

That means that any political party or politician intent on maintaining or increasing those laws is no friend of the Constitution. Or, indeed, all the individual liberties it protects. Every. Single. One.

The Democrats will approve their party platform later today. Click here to live stream that blessed event.

  1. “Democratic politicians regularly pronounce, “I support the Second Amendment but —””

Trim the first word. Ask most Republicans about NFA repeal (or, worse yet, GCA repeal) and see what you get.

  2. They really should just rename it the Communist Party of America and get it over already.

  3. Three branches in which each has a specific purpose is long gone, the Supreme Court and the President seem to be making laws and Congress just sits on their collective thumbs and goes along with it all. Constitution? You don’t need no stinking Constitution.

    • “and Congress just sits on their collective thumbs”

Quite literally so, right on the House floor.

Scary is all the dipshits on twitter (for example) that thought that “sit-in” was a good idea, proper behavior for Representatives and “how to get their way.”

Reminds one of the Brexit “Remain” losers whining about that vote.

Herald in the era of the Special Snowflake, where it seems everyone (who agrees with Progressive poisonous ideology) gets their way no matter what.

  4. Where there’s been (D) support for BLM [and I believe I read somewhere it got some funding directly from a nearly defunct Detroit school system] there should be widespread legal penalties and jail time.

  5. “Progress” to the Democratic Party is liberating Americans from freedoms they don’t need and culturally homogenizing them into all the same person through government regulation.

    • I was trying to explain this homogeny to somebody the other. He kept going on and on about diversity.
I said the end result of everyone being everywhere is the death of diversity.
It’s neat when the town next over gets a Taco Bell and your town doesnt have one.
That neatness goes away pretty quick once every town has several of each Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, PF Changs, etc….

Any appeal or value diversity may have is effectively destroyed once everyone is everywhere. We all become white bread and plain yogurt.

But I’ve noticed among my acquaintances who constantly harp on about diversity that what they really mean is they like to have different ethnicity serve them food, do their laundry, dance for them, etc… Effectively the push for diversity is at first racist as all get out and second wholly destructive to culture.

      • diversity has been fed to us by global corporations, to further their agenda of keeping wages low, and it makes some get a warm and fuzzy feeling in their heart. Just like the whole going green campaign was designed by big business to lower their expenditures while getting the consumers or employees to pitch in or except a crappier product. Globalization sucks, and it is likely to cause the end of humans on Earth.

      • Progressives want everyone to share the same opinion (theirs), especially on equality, discrimination, orientation, etc. They are liberationists. They are looking to impose regulations on as many people as possible to liberate them from hardships such as bathroom discrimination, voluntary free association, economic disparity (no matter the reason), microaggressions, and cultures they don’t like (like gun owners).

They brag about diversity, but wouldn’t dare condone a culture segregate themselves for the purpose of preserving their culture (i.e. pro-federalism – local governments governing their own local cultures), especially if that culture does not mesh with the Democratic Party ideals. And by this nature, they are inherently imperialistic in their control, looking to force as many rules on as many as possible. Diversity today, is lack thereof, a few generations from now. When everyone is a mixture of everything, sorry, there is no more diversity or cultural uniqueness. So really, they are anti-diversity, they are pro-homogenization. Pro-sameness.

        • “They brag about diversity, but wouldn’t dare condone a culture segregate themselves…”

          The hell you say?

That’s exactly what they openly declare support for when they talk about “safe spaces” and “preventing cultural appropriation”.

Just like gun control. They don’t hate guns, they want to be the ones controlling all the guns (i.e. they have them all and you have none).

“Progressive ideology” isn’t an ideology at all. It’s a divide and conquer strategy where you use propaganda to pit various segments of society against each other over perceived injustice, injustice which is usually manufactured outrage in the first place. That outrage is manufactured by playing both ends against the middle.

This whole BLM thing is a perfect example. Back in the early Clinton years the Progs “got tough on crime” by locking away violent criminals for a long period of time. Now, due to the fact that blacks are 13% of the population but account for 52% of murders (most of which is actually done by male blacks so like 6% of the population). They also disproportionately commit robbery, assault, assault with intent etc. So they disproportionately get caught and locked up. That’s racist!

In order to actually believe that such a system is truly biased against people of color you would have to believe that Congress is racist, nearly every state legislature is racist, that most cops are racists, that most judges are racist along with most jurors, defense attorneys and prosecutors. That’s simply not an argument you’re going to win in most cases.

Enter “disparate impact” where we the progs say that if a law disproportionately affects a group of criminals who happen to be of the same race it’s a racist law. Combine that with “institutional racism” and voilà, you now just throw around a few terms and condemn the whole country thereby pitting blacks against pretty much everyone else and of course you offer them a solution to their problems: vote the right way.

This is why progs don’t care about the truth. They’re totalitarians with an agenda to amass wealth and power for themselves, so they don’t care about the truth, they care about saying whatever it is that gets them a momentary advantage politically. That may seem like a self-defeating strategy in the long run, but what they’re hoping is that by the time all these various groups wake up to the fact that they’ve been used the progs will have accumulated enough power that it won’t matter any more if the mask slips off.

        • They literally believe that all white people are racist, all men are sexist and misogynist and everyone else is a victim of oppression. Even if one thinks he is not, he’s still unconsciously racist/sexist.

        • @Marcus:

I don’t think they believe 99% of what they say. They’re lying (knowingly telling untruths) because it gets them a political advantage. Some of the low level useful idiots might believe it but the folks at the top know it’s nonsense.

Some people refer to this as “the new plantation” where there are not literal chains but rather a series of lies designed to keep people in line.

      • If the progressives had their way, we’d all be wearing the same grey outfits and carrying Obama’s Little Black Book, while they wear their 10 thousand dollar outfits, ride in their chauffer driven limos, are protected by their armed bodyguards, live in mansions, of which they each have several, which could hold a whole neighborhood… all at tax payer slave wage expense.

How many mansions does Gore have while he tells us not to waste resources? Hillary and Bill have at least three. Obama has (not counting the White House) at least two. And on it goes. In their eyes we are nothing but serfs. Remember, no matter how hard your efforts and how big your investment, that business doesn’t belong to you.

  6. The “But Brigade” has control of the Democrat party. In 1994 after they put through the Assault Weapons Ban we showed them that attacking the 2nd Amendment is a good way to loose an election in most of the country. It looks like we need to show them this again 22 years later. Attacking the 2nd Amendment is something they can get away with in places like California, New York, and Maryland, but most of the rest of the country takes a dim view of politicians doing that.

    • Twenty-two years-ago, the GOP could rely on the white vote to win. Demographics have since changed, and the problem is that most of the non-white population is unfortunately not to keen on the right to keep and bear arms. Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, all support gun control.

Maybe it could be repeated, for example the shellacking that happened in Colorado, but maybe not too. So we must be vigilant.

  7. blueprint for progress…What is all this progress crap about? We are humans, and humans are inherently not perfect. People need to start embracing the fact that everything can’t progress into a damn perfect utopia. It is all this progress that has allowed humans to evolve into something even less perfect, so maybe all this progress needs to dial back a few notches?

    • “I’m the enemy. Because I like to think, I like to read. I’m into freedom of speech, the freedom of choice. I’m the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder – “Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of BBQ ribs with the side order of gravy fries?” I want high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I wanna run through the streets naked with green Jell-O all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I’ve SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It’s a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing “I’m an Oscar Meyer Wiener.”

      • Nice, haahhaa I forgot about that scene, dam, Miller is a funny guy. What’s most troubling is that it came true, as a kid I never thought that would happen, but the banana-broccoli shake drinkers are the ones advocating this farce.

        thanks for the laugh, hehehehe.

  8. The term “Common Sense” is like fingernails on a chalkboard, just makes my teeth hurt, makes my head spin. It’s a weasel word, sole purpose is to delude the very people who vote for them.

Next election, hold your nose, get off your rear end and vote.
Is Trump the best candidate? Is he likely to strip the 2nd?

No, but Hillary not only is, but has already tipped her hand. Since Bill told her to STFU, you will only that weasel word.

  9. Inherently contradictory of the the liberal mentality… Pick and choose ideology to suit.. If my rifle is evil and needs banned for existing, why should an illiterate be allowed to vote

  10. What they really mean is the Constitution is an illegitimate document that must be disavowed so that they can achieve their goal of absolute power and control of American citizens.

  11. I have no interest in electing under the procedures of the charter for US government, people who assert they intend to ignore the charter for US government, to do whatever they want.

To start with, if that’s what you’re gonna do, what’s your authority for doing so? You have authority as President, Congresscritter, or other Feds, under this charter. Abandon the charter and “I was elected under these rules, granting me authority thereby to do … nevermind. But listen to me anyway.”

While I’m at it, the charter includes a mechanism for changing both the scope and procedures it describes. Why not use that?

“I’m the D-party president, and our party platform says this, so that’s the law of the land.” is … something different. Party vs. republican govt, to start.

Really, that chunk of party platform sounds a lot more like revolution, or at least insurrection, than anything within the system.

  12. Only a Blueprint??
    WTF???
In a way Im glad my time here is more up, then to look forward too.
I do however feel really bad for all the others here whose kids and grandkids inherit this box of crap we have left them.. As I have no immediate family. Ill survive,
If the Dims win in November. This country which is already in the crapper. Is going to end up worse then some 3rd world countries.
If half the country does indeed accept that as true.
This isn’t a place I want to be in for the for seeable future.

  13. This is why even though Trump is far from an ideal candidate, he is the only rational choice for anyone who believes in liberty or who wishes to preserve the republic.
