Oh darn. Sarasota seems to be light one armed home invader. All because one of the people he was menacing and waiving his gun at early yesterday morning was carrying. “According to police, (Christian) Robinson entered the home on 21 Street uninvited, and began to wave a gun at three occupants of the home and telling them to get out of the house. One of the occupants of the home, 22-year-old Frank Lee Green, says he pulled a handgun from his pocket and shot Robinson.” Seems like a logical response. But here’s the best part: “Green stated that he had a concealed weapons permit, and showed it to officers.” mysuncoast.com says the investigation is continuing. Perhaps it will reveal why a citizen in legal possession of a firearm is a bad idea. Or not.

According to Mikebnumbers that would be enough to keep most home invaders out. Somehow I dont think this nice guy with his gun would have been deterred by a locked door, but that does raise a good point. How the hell did he gain entry?

Oh it’s worse than that. Mikebnumbers is going to blame the homeowner for the unnecessary death of the home invader: had the homeowner locked his door the home invader would still be alive.
Why should it matter whether or not guy had a permit if the incident took place inside a private residence?
It shouldn’t, and that’s an excellent point. Concealed carry in a private residence should have no bearing.
It wouldn’t, but if you have one showing it to the cop is a quick way to assure them that you’re not a felon, and are probably a law-abiding type who isn’t going to try to jump them.
This is a good example for both home carry and concealed carry.
The home carry aspect should be obvious.
I am guessing that concealed carry was important in this case because the criminal walked in and had the element of surprise. If the armed citizen were carrying openly, would the criminal have left or opened fire before the armed citizen could draw and shoot?
This happened in NY. Hence they need to have an investigation. NY is anti-gun #1. Those that live there do so only so long as they are good little subjects. Any sign of deviation from the established norm is looked upon as being a bad-subject. I didn’t see where this occured, such as a housing project. Was the shooter a veteran?
If so that alone is enough to get him the hairy eyeball. Remember according to the Imposter In Charge, VETERANS are a threat to this nation!

Easy lads, a man was shot, and no matter how facially justified it seems to be, it merits investigation. That said, time will tell whether the scope of investigation and actions of the police and prosecutor are reasonable. Let’s not get to the point where anyone who claims self defense we decry the mere investigation of. If it devolves into harassment, sure. If it results in malicious prosecution or police misconduct, of course. This is the police doing their job, and until they do it poorly, we should all watch them vigilantly, but not condemn them for that.

Well, there *is* precedent for overzealous special prosecutors in central Florida, afterall.
Yes, but there’s a few commenters saying basically they don’t understand why there’s an investigation. One guy shot another guy, and a news organization said that he said he had a CCW. That’s what we know, and as silly and venal as it was for the press and the antis to crucify Zimmerman, it doesn’t mean that our side has to be against the investigation of homicide.

i don’t know about florida. but my home state of wva the police were not allowed to rule the shooting justified and then walk away. according to state lae there had to be an investigation and inquest. the inquest happened in a court room with a judge presiding. it was his call as to whether it was justifiable or not. if he ruled in your favor you walked out free and could collect your weapon from the bailiff. that was more than 20 years ago. i currently live in ca and frankly have no idea how they make the determination here.

In most home-invasion robberies (especially those with young adult victims) the perps *and* victims are both involved with drugs. When a home gets robbed around here, it’s a good bet that street drugs of some kind were the reason for the robbery.
I’m not saying that’s the case here, but it’s probably why the cops aren’t just tagging the body and walking away.
That was my thought, as well. Just speculatin’, of course. Door apparently not locked, so some guy just strolls in and waves a gun around, and tells people to leave. Huh? That’s a strange story. Could be true, of course, but certaintly worth looking into.
There may be more to the story BUT , so what. Uninvited guy comes into house brandishing weapon gets shot. End of story.
This is called Newtown a mostly black lower income section of Sarasota. Its a mixture of privately owned homes and projects and low rents. It’s the same area the 2 British tourist wandered into the night they were shot to death. I have never had a problem in the past 35 years of working in this area as I know where not to be. One of the guys at work knows Mr. Greens family and said they are good people.
