Even in California if they break into your home deadly force is justified. You just can’t chase them up the street busting caps at them.
Actually, California has a rather strong castle doctrine. This is rather odd considering how anti gun California tends to be otherwise. It is found in Penal Code Section 198.5.
“Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or
great bodily injury within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family, or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and
forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred. As used in this section, great bodily injury means a significant or substantial physical injury.”

Where I live this simply does not occur – or at least never has. It’s too far from the population centres to make a good “shopping” destination, and the locals are an actual neighbourhood – spread out with roughly thirty houses to the square mile.
That said, my seven shooter’s always handy, ’cause the more certain you are of something, the more harshly you can be proven mistaken.

If you don’t want to carry a full sized weapon in the house; ( I do, I just leave my carry weapon on my belt), carry a pocket .380 or 9mm.

I’m all for home carry, but 43 rounds is overkill. (pun intended) If you need more than 15, then you are a terrible aim. I can not imagine any reasonable situation that would require 43 rounds, except for a riot and you will get enough warning about the riot to get extra rounds.
I think you can lighten up (literally and figuratively) a bit.

Oh, yes. If I need to make a Type 3 malfunction clearance and have only one magazine, and the problem IS the magazine, don’t I imagine that I could use that spare magazine, right about then? And if that magazine carries another 15 rounds, should I download it to whatever number YOU think is appropriate and necessary first, so as not to offend somebody?

I disagree. It sounds like a lot of weight to carry, but that just means he’s more prepared than we. He’s only carrying “too much” ammo if he’s going swimming with it.
@ Bob: Have you ever been the victim of a home invasion? I have, survived two of them and lived in what was considered a good middle class neighborhood at the time.
Where I live now the nearest LEO is 5 miles from my house, and the sheriffs dept is 15 miles away. If more than one or two invaders come thru my door at 2 or 3 in the morning I am going to be ready.
Even in rural parts of the state home invasions are 2 or 3 or 4 bad guys. The stress level when it happens goes out the roof. You can train all you want but until it actually happens to you you don’t know how it is going to go.
I truly hope it never happens to you because it is damn scary an the repercussions can last a lifetime.
It has been 31 yrs this year since the first one and 20 years since the second one and I still occasionally have nightmares about taking someone’s life.
@Eric in Sacramento: i don’t plan on swimming with that much weight!! Considering that I live on the side of a mountain in NE Arkansas if I have to go swimming at my house the weight will be the least of my worries, as it is 550 feet from the bottom of my driveway to the top at a 7% grade!! LOL!!!

I live in a rural part of the Poconos, not in town, but on a dead end cul-de-sac more than 10 miles from any incorporated town. For the month of Feb, there has been one murder and three violent home invasions all within 2 miles of my house. I now home carry all the time. It’s the ?#$%@* meth labs and the burned out tweakers that are addicted to it. My township has no local police dept, we rely on coverage from the PA State troopers who have an average responce time of 40 minutes. I know because I have had cause to call them on 4 seperate occassions. So in my house, I am FULLY aware that I am the first responder, my family’s safety falls on me and my wife. And frankly, any bad guy should hope he runs into me instead of her. She can shoot very well, but prefers a knife with which she is an expert.
