“I’m just a citizen trying to help an officer out. That’s what I was tryin’ to do.” That’s what Vic Stacy had to say while deflecting attempts to call him ahero. Stacy came to the aid of Sgt. Steven Means of the Early, TX PD who came under fire from Charles Conner. According to ktxs.com, Conner had already murdered two neighbors and their dogs before opening fire on the officer as he arrived on the scene. When Stacy saw Sgt. Means couldn’t get a good shot at Conner, he feared the cop would be the third (well, fifth) victim of the afternoon. So Stacy opened up with his own gun, hitting him in the thigh and knocking him down. Conner’s now in a morgue somewhere after Means and Stacy ventilated him sufficiently to end the threat. We know at least one cop who’s glad firearms aren’t restricted to police and the military.   [h/t Eric Nelson]

  1. first, good job dude. the msm and dems will ignore your courage because it puts the lie to their efforts to disarm everyman.

    • I’m a pretty heavily armed democrat. Not all dems are anti gun and I mean seriously, how many guns have democrats taken away even when they had 100% control they did nothing to attempt it. Don’t let the NRA and the millionaires running it fool you. They make A LOT of money when guns and ammo sales sore. They all own massive stocks in the firearms industry. 😉

      • dude, schumer, lautenberg, feinstein, pelosi, clinton. need i go on. i live in ca,which is run by the donkey. so many restrictions on my rights i might as well be a peasant. only illinois, which is also run by the donkies is equal in messing with our rights.

        • Anti-gunners have the blood of those murdered and wounded in “gun free safe” zones on their hands.

ALL liberals whine “Reagan did it” – To try and justify restricting the Constitutional self protection rights of law abiding tax paying citizens.

Guess what – Reagan F-ED up. If you remember your history correctly – Ronnie was considered to be too liberal to most conservatives – But a much better choice compared to Carter. (Sound familiar?)

How many more innocent, unarmed, defenseless lives need to be sacrificed – Before liberal anti-gunners FINALLY realize their naive, delusional fantasy of “gun control laws” DO NOT make us safer – They only create more murder victims…?!?!?!

      • Before 1970, the NRA basically was not involved in gun control laws, one way or the other.

The NRA is not run by multimillionaires. But the NRA is always factual because they cannot afford to make claims that are bogus because it would destroy their credibility.

The United States Supreme Court has issued many opinions since shortly before the Civil War up to the last few years. With the Heller case they actually did not duck the answer as they had done in 1939s Miller case. Then the Court ruled in the McDonald case and applied the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights to the entire nation. It is called incorporation. Last December 2012 a Federal Court of Appeals ORDERED the State of Illinois to pass a concealed carry law within 180 days because ALL the Illinois gun laws are /were unconstitutional.
They will start issuing CCH licenses in January 2014. The law will be amended several times in the next few years to reduce the cost of the training and the license itself.
But violent street crime will go down because the gangsters are not stupid, carjacking, liquor store robberies aren’t as much fun when the victims might be shooting back.

  2. Well, that’s proper gun control for you there. He was able to put 4 into target from the distance of about 65 yards away, with a guy armed with AR15.

    • He said “Hundred Sixty five”, even more heroic range. He also said it was the “cop” with the scary black rifle, not the perp. ‘Atta boy Vic. The best quote ever; “and I thought, I’m fixin’ to put one in him”.

  3. 165 yards?? I guess another reason not to buy that charter 9mm revolver. His “magnum” revolver did the trick where that 9mm probably wouldn’t have. 😉

    • I’ve made 150 yard shots on 10″ plates with a 9mm Glock 19, and a friend of mine can consistently hit 3/4″ EMT with a Glock 26 at 75 yards.

It’s not that the 9mm can’t make those shots, but that there are flatter shooting rounds if that’s what you’re going for.

      • It isn’t the caliber that matters, it is the sights inability to accurately be aligned by the shooter. Standard iron sights at 100+ yards the front sight blade will appear to be three times wider than the target. That combined with the short sight radius [rear to front sight distance] makes very small errors in alignment result in a miss by several feet.
Scope sighted handguns can be shot at long range very accurately.
But a handgun is a defensive weapon of convenience, it is convenient to carry for use in an emergency. Mounting a scope makes the gun bulky and heavier.
But that does not mean a bullet from a 2″, 6″ or even a 10″ barrel won’t go 200 yards or even further.

  4. Thank you Mr. Stacy. No I won’t call him a hero even though he kinda is. He was doing what any of us upstanding TTAG’ers would do, help someone in need. The fact he was an LEO was incidental, but none the less I am sure glad he was there to help Sgt. Means. I am sure Mr. Means is pretty happy he was there as well.

  5. Good shooting sir! Vic shot Conner with one magnum round from his revolver though I guess it could possibly be a semi-auto magnum tactical pistol. He then followed up with three more shots at what Vic estimates was a distance of 165 yards! That’s incredible if the actual distance.

  6. Great Job! This story won’t be mainstream or included in any statistics for good gun use. Probably will count towards another death by a gun.

  7. “So, that’s the way it is, y’know… man just gotta live with it now.”

Somehow I don’t think he’ll have too much trouble getting to sleep tonight.

    • “Somehow I don’t think he’ll have too much trouble getting to sleep tonight.”

I think he might, but the point is, he and the LEO he helped will both be getting up from their naps tomorrow morning….

  8. Breaking news out of Texas. A man armed with a magnum assault pistol takes the law into his own hands. Hear how he put an officers life in danger and how this affects you, after the break…

    • yup that will be the headline on msnbc tonight……..and why is it the poor damn dog always gets it ????

    • Why the hell that NY retired cop missed his chance to off that scumbag stabbing people on the ferry is beyond me. I would have put one in his head; not fired a warning shot. Justifiable killing, in the wake of what that lunatic did. I don’t care if he’s mentally insane or not…if you lose it and go start killing people like that, there is no room for you on this earth IMO.

      • And that is exactly the wrong attitude to have……you sir need education or at least hopefully don’t carry your gun. You are the exact type that makes liberals scaredy pants….someone who is just up and willing to take the law into their own hands….more than they need to.

  9. Way to go Vic!!!! Glad you were there regardless of the range!!!! It is the hits that count after all!!!
To the Mainstream media…..Bite Me!!!! This is just one reason we do need our gun laws left alone!!!!!!!
Wonder if the news reporters would sing the same song had it been one of them being shot at by the BG???? Probably so!!!!

  10. See if stories like this were put in headlines by the the leftist media, I bet there would be a good many less gun grabbers. Bu they won’t I only get t0o hear these things on TTAG.

  11. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it disgusting that Vic had to be on the ground and in handcuffs for 15-20 minutes?

    Great job Vic!

    • Less than desirable to be sure. You’d think that he was a friendly would have been among the first pieces of info the two officers exchanged.

      • I would hope so. Right away the Leo Vic assisted should’ve been over thanking him after verifying/securing the dead perp.

    • nothing to get emotional about. twice i’ve had cops hold me at gunpoint until they got things sorted. in the end they apologised and i understood why they did it. if the situation had been reversed i would have done the same.

    • No, this isn’t disgusting or even unreasonable, and I say that as a CCW permit holder. The police arriving on the scene didn’t know Mr. Stacy from Mr. Conner. They couldn’t know if Mr. Stacy was helping or hindering Sgt. Means, all they knew was “active shooter”.

It is completely reasonable for the police to cuff everybody in the area, especially those with weapons, and hold them for a few minutes until the adrenaline wears off and the confusion dies down.

      • You also have to consider that in this situation time feels like it’s flying like a rocket on rails. He was probably in cuffs for a few minutes but it seemed like 15 or 20. First order of business when the cops show up is to get control. That means handcuffs for anyone that has a gun but not a badge. The Sgt. knew damn well who saved his life and I’m sure he had Vic released asap.

        Good job Vic!

  12. Neither Connor nor Stacy should have been in possession of firearms. Guns do not prevent violence, they encourage and facilitate violence by lowering the natural barriers against committing violent acts.

I’m not defending Connor, but Vic Stacy should be convicted of second-degree murder.

    • Kayne: Neither Connor nor Stacy should have been in possession of firearms… but Vic Stacy should be convicted of second-degree murder.

I don’t get where you get that idea. Explain please.

    • Matt: In my opinion he should be convicted of second degree murder because he made a considered decision to shoot at another human being. The intent was there, therefore 2nd degree is appropriate.

jwm: This is actually the first time I’ve ever posted on this forum. Someone sent me a link to the story this morning.

I don’t mean any disrespect to anyone else on the board. Just voicing my opinion.

      Regards, Kayne Kerr

      • so, when is it acceptable to shoot at another person? or do you believe that unless a cop is doing the shooting it’s not kosher?

        • I don’t think it is ever acceptable to shoot someone. If neither Connor nor Stacy had been permitted to possess firearms, none of this would have happened!

      • Kayne: In Florida, and several other states that have a “justifiable force” statute, force is justified in defense of others as it would be in self-defense. For the purposes of determination, you are presumed to “stand in the shoes” of the intended victim. If, standing in their shoes, you would be justified in using self-defense, then you are justified in using that same force to defend them.

      • Kayne,
Even in societies where the private ownership of guns is totally banned, bad guys still get guns. So you are saying that if you saw a “bad guy” killing folks with a gun, or with a hammer, or sword, and you had the means to stop him by killing or seriously injuring him, you wouldn’t? Because your belief is that it is wrong to harm another person, even if that person is killing others? I’m guessing you are a Quaker or a member of a similar church that forbids violence under any circumstances? That is a tough position to put one’s self into. I have heard of Quakers and others that have this belief and because of it, they are usually exempt from military service. I’m just trying to understand how you got to believe that killing an active murderer is also considered murder.

      • Yes because crooks can’t get guns on the black market. But wait, they can! And apparently our government helps with that. So really man you seem like a pussy. And this is coming from someone with an extremely high value on human life. If one can’t come to the aid of another than that whole love thy neighbor thing goes out the window.

      • The law in every one of the 50 States and District of Columbia provides for “justified use of force” commonly called self-defense. You can read biblical texts and find that defense of self and others is the duty of the citizen.
Florida Chapter http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0776/0776ContentsIndex.html , Kansas http://ag.ks.gov/docs/documents/self-defense-statutes.pdf?sfvrsn=4 , Texas http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/9.42.00.html will show a great deal of common principles of law.
There are several million citizens and legal visitors licensed to carry for self-defense.

      • @motojb……read up a few replies at his “full name”…..kayne Kerr…..maybe as in Canker(sore)!!!! Just a troll with a bad sore needing to vent!!!!
@Kayne…..just wondering what you would do had a BG tried to harm you or one of your friends, family members or even a close neighbor???
As a person who has been involved in 2 justified dgu’s I can tell you that without the means to defend myself and my family my son’s and my (exwife now) might not be here!!!!
The first was a BG that broke into our home looking for money for grubs and the second time was a drunk who tried to assault my then wife I the parking lot of a grocery store by where we lived. Had I not been legally armed both times who knows what the outcome would have been!!!!
Just my opinion but until we do someday live in the ideal utopian world I would rather be armed and never use it as to be unarmed and need it !!!!!!

Sorry about the double post!!! Thumbs bigger than keyboard on phone, spelling get’s rough sometimes!!!!

  13. kayne, let me guess. you live in england, right? self defense and the lawfull defense of others is a human right, not a privilege. owning the tools to perform the job is an absolute right. if you don’t agree, meh.

  14. So what is it with these OFWGs? Protecting LEOs? Accurate 165 yard handgun shots while under fire? And doesn’t feel he’s a hero, for doing something that the media and the political chielfs have told us since 1960 NOT to do? “Hey, call 911 and leave it to the professionals.” Bet there’s at least one professional that is damn glad that OFWG got involved.

  15. I’m thinking there are quite a few folks glad that Mr. Stacy was there. I’m glad that he was able to help the officer stop the gunman from killing any more people. Sounds like the last thing Mr. Stacy wants is a lot of publicity, but I sure wish that this story could go national.

  16. I don’t think this is old enough that I get yelled at for a necro-post.

Interview with the Sheriff in this case, at the scene, giving his thoughts.

“This guy probably saved the officer, or took some heat off of him while the guy was trying to get a sight picture on him, so he really… he helped the officer.”

  17. Excellent story, too bad the mental problems and rudeness lead to the death of the two dogs and their owner. But once the citizen came to the aid of the deputy there was a luck factor. He was lucky he had just enough ammo to end the danger. I hope as a leather worker that he makes a holster and speedloader belt and pouch for his .357 and his AR.

If you’re told to “bring a gun” bring both your rifle and handgun, with spare ammo.

The deputies should have known that he was being saved, so why the face down and handcuffs? Yes, the gun will go in for tests and it was returned. I’d say the $5,000 worth of rifle and ammo was an apology more than a reward.
