I have often read keyboard racists claim that black men cannot use firearms for self defense, that the courts will always find against them, no matter what. This is a pernicious lie that is destructive to the rule of law. In this story from Florida, a black man defended himself from what appears to be a version of the “knockout game“.  In the video above he is hit in the face (at 6:40), draws his firearm, then shoots another attacker who charges him (at 6:55). The video does not show him doing anything to provoke the attack (auto-play video after the jump). . .

His attackers appear to have been drunk. If the races were reversed, I would expect the same result, except that the media would be trumpeting headlines about a white man shooting an unarmed black man.

From newspress.com:

An investigation showed the shooter, 28-year-old Jehrardd Williams, shot and killed in self-defense as he was being charged by a shirtless man who had been yelling racial slurs at him minutes earlier, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Williams shot Dakota Fields, of Fort Myers, three times as the 24-year-old rushed toward him, the report said. Fields died six miles down the road from the restaurant after the SUV he and friends left in struck a car at the foot of the Edison Bridge.

A study of Florida’s “stand your ground” law, found that black people are more likely to successfully use the defense than are white people. Most homicides are intra-racial. Black people tend to kill other black people, and whites other whites. It is true that more black people murder white people than vice versa, but that is to be expected when you consider statistically, blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder according to a 2005 New Century Foundation study.

From thedaileycaller.com:

But approximately one third of Florida “Stand Your Ground” claims in fatal cases have been made by black defendants, and they have used the defense successfully 55 percent of the time, at the same rate as the population at large and at a higher rate than white defendants, according to a Daily Caller analysis of a database maintained by the Tampa Bay Times.  Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida “Stand Your Ground” cases have been white.

Black men and women are learning that their right to bear arms for self defense is protected under shall-issue concealed carry laws, just citizens of any other color.  Stand your ground laws mean that you do not have to submit to a beating by white racists any more than white men or women are required by law to submit to a beating by a black mob.

The sooner that black people learn that they can trust the rule of law, the faster that black homicide rates will fall.

  1. A black man shot a white man in self defense? Wow.

I wonder when a bunch of crazed white people will burn down Fort Myers and loot the nearest Neiman Marcus.

    • I’m so furious I’m gonna steal a bottle of Glengoyne 35-year old highland single malt scotch! Justice will be served!!!………….Neat, in a crystal tumbler….

    • “I wonder when a bunch of crazed white people will burn down Fort Myers and loot the nearest Neiman Marcus.”

They’ll need to road trip to Tampa to get to the nearest Needless-Markup, er, Neiman Marcus and battle their way through a wall of enraged concealed-carrying female Floridians who will likely prefer to die than see their NM looted.

“Charge-It!” – The battle cry of the female suburban shopper ….

  2. Is it racial profiling if I would have called the cops on those three dirtbags the second they walked in?

  3. Guy’s reaction to cops arriving was perfect.. I hope I have the presence of mind to do the same if that ever happens to me. It looked like he was filming himself too?

    Good for him!

    • I’m still trying to figure out why they made a bee-line fo the the Hispanic looking guy and cuffed him – was he even involved? He looked like he was there on his own getting some take out.

      • I noticed that. Plus they seemed to ignore the couple in the booth until the end of the video when they exited. Kinda feel sorry for the guy in the striped shirt-he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Not so sure I’d want to hug the floor in a Waffle House, but considering the alternative, I’d probably do it in a heartbeat.

        • “Not so sure I’d want to hug the floor in a Waffle House, but considering the alternative, I’d probably do it in a heartbeat.”

Showering is lots faster than a hospital stay. (Or a funeral followed by a dirt nap).

        • I wouldn’t rule out a hospital stay also being the end result of lying on the floor of a Waffle House…

  4. This looks like a good clean shoot. The man clearly had every right to protect himself from these punk thugs.

It looks like the shirtless dead one would have benefitted from understanding Proverbs 1:18:

“but these men lie in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives.”

Violent men like those in the video bring destruction upon themselves.

    • If that is the same shirtless guy we saw earlier (how many can there be?) he looked pretty buff. He also entered and attacked pretty quick, drunk or not. I think the shooter performed admirably, and is clearly a demonstration of why we should ALWAYS be alert, and always be carrying an unpleasant surprise for those who think they can just beat us up, at will.

  5. …and yet another auto play video on TTAG. Again. Still. Hand curated, not even pushed by an ad company.

    Learn never will they.

  6. We need more stories like this, along with the positive comments POTG give the shooter, to continue to show it ain’t us that’s racist.

Go ahead, Shannon…let’s here how this man should not have been allowed a firearm to defend himself.

    • “We need more stories like this, along with the positive comments POTG give the shooter, to continue to show it ain’t us that’s racist.”

      Be real, JR.

This will be cheerfully ignored by the antis. Along with all the other similar instances. They’re programmed that way.

    • “Go ahead, Shannon…let’s here how this man should not have been allowed a firearm to defend himself.”

Dirk needs to present this during pillow talk, if he can’t affect Shannon, what chance do we have?

  7. I noticed that this went down at 2:40 AM. As has been said before, not much good happens at those hours. Also this happened in Fort Myers which is kind of a rough town, and at Waffle House, which likewise is not a surprise. The news article said the gun was a .40 Smith and Wesson. Of course that leaves me wondering if the gun was a Smith and Wesson, or just chambered in .40 S&W.

    • I have just loved the hell out of Waffle House for some 30-odd years, now, the atmosphere, the food, the prices, and they are also kind of lonely at 2 am, since they are open 24/7/365. A wonderful place, they don’t deserve the ridicule.

      • Overall, I’d agree with you. With an exception, my ex… She was the prototypical negative WH stereotype. Problem being, she was a damned good actress too. I didn’t realize I was being taken for a ride until about 4 years later.

The last thing I ever said to her, was that soap opera’s were purely for entertainment. They’re not a GD manual on how to live your life. She took her queues from the very worst of those plots.

On topic: Good shoot, & I hope being cleared assuages any personal doubts he may harbor in the aftermath.

    • All current and former shift workers thank you for your stereotyping and bigotry and ignorance.

      • Waffle House was my frequent refuge after I finished a swing or a long night of excess. I loved to sit at the counter and watch the guy on the griddle juggle the orders, restock, plate the food, and drink his coffee, all while never dropping the ash from his cigarette in the food. It was pure poetry in motion.

        • Maybe it’s a Southern thing, Larry. My memories are mainly from a particular WH in southwest Virginia in the 70s.

        • Nah, it’s pretty much everywhere, all are trained the same. Did you know there’s a line on the floor the waitress is supposed to stand behind when she reads the order out to the griddleguy? It’s like a game! I swear I’ve seen the cook hold an order for a few moments, so he can get several to work on at the same time, increasing the juggling challenge. And anybody says the food’s not good, go getcha a cheese omelet with hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered, then come back and tell me that. Only problem is if there’s a Cracker Barrel nearby, for the same price you can get a Country Boy breakfast with steak and 3 eggs, cheesy hash browns, baked apples, biscuits, too much food to eat. OOoops. And then we go shooting, mmkay? Forgot where I was, there, for a minute.

Southwest VA? Like, Blacksburg? VPI class of ’69, here.

  8. If the law abiding black and hispanic population would only recognize that the right to armed self defence applies to them also, maybe they will quit voting for the same statists that want to disarm them.

  9. White people don’t consider themselves to be bound by race in the same way as some ethnicities in the USA do. People call whites all sorts of hateful things but because we’re not tying our identity to our ethnicity in any useful way we don’t really have the impetus to get all worked up. Just the same when someone with a better tan than us shoots one of us because we desperately needed shooting, we collectively look to the field where we grow our damns and being pleased at what we do not see we invite all who might to lay their eyes upon the field and see that it is barren.

    • We also don’t have a recent history of being systematically targeted by government and private forces for being treated as less than equal.

      • You obviously aren’t well versed the last two centuries of Irish history.

I will lay my cards on the table and say this: I was raised by parents who made a concerted effort to teach us to view the world from a liberal slant.I spent a good portion of my youth living in areas that had a majority black population, and went to schools that were up to 85% black. The worst part is that it wasn’t for strictly financial reasons. They thought they were doing something noble.

I raised my own son to view people as individuals and to judge them based on the merits of their own actions. That being said, I would never, for even a second, consider putting him into the hostile and dangerous environment that I was put in. I would never consider living in a city with a major black population again.

Unless you have lived in those circumstances, It is impossible to comprehend the level of hostility and racism that many black people feel towards ALL white people. A large segment of the black population view white people as the root cause of all of the problems in their lives. The problem is that things aren’t getting better. Black communities are getting more hostile and violent than ever, and the mainstream media constantly feeds the fire by telling minority population that they are entitled to lash out in anger because of the years of oppression.

WHile I have known some truly lovely black people in my life, and I don’t mean to generalize and cast dispersions on black folks that are hard working, law abiding citizens….. but lets be honest here, we all know that stereotypes don’t just appear from thin air.

  10. >This is a pernicious lie that is destructive to the rule of law.

    Tell that to Cory Maye.

    • Anyone who kills a cop, even if the shooting is completely justified, had better have a very good lawyer. The almighty state usually protects its own, even when its own are clearly wrong. Especially when the police officer killed is the son of the Chief of Police.

      • The hilarity of the author asking blacks to put all their faith in “the rule of law” when the enforcers of those laws are violent psychopaths who literally engage in home invasions for fun and profit.

      • A man was sentenced to death for defending his home from home invaders. You’d think a Person Of The Gun wouldn’t treat the issue this lightly.

        • I don’t take cases like this lightly. But having a savage, foaming at the mouth attack dick like trannysoreass constantly hammering at us doesn’t help. It may even turn people away from a real cause.

        • JWM said it all for me. Also, the case was overturned on appeal. Cory then took a plea deal for time served. I think it was a raw deal, as I’ve said before, but this guy seems to be taking it personally.

        • I’m no fan of ST, I looked into the AnCap scene for a bit and decided it wasn’t for me, way too far out there. But I never even heard of Cory Maye until just now. It’s appalling on every level. And if an obtuse messenger somehow alters the way you perceive such an incident, maybe you need to take a break and recalibrate.

        • @Brett Maybe because Mr. Maye was within months of being executed by the state of Mississippi, that he is only free today because of the efforts of civil rights and anti-death penalty attorneys (which are so despised by the law-and-order cabal), and that the government lawyers who nearly murdered Mr. Maye continue to slander their victim to this day.

That case neatly summarizes a multitude of problems with today’s legal system, using the case as an example is not an obsession, but a duty for anyone who gives a damn about liberty and civil rights.

        • Grindstone. I don’t disagree with every word tranny types. But when you deliver a message that a lot of folks agree with, and they still hate for you to deliver it it may be time to rethink your approach to others.

The hyper drive meth head attack dog style is going to turn away more than it will attract.

        • @JWM Heh, you should consider the repulsiveness of the doctrinaire pro-cop/pro-government factions in the 2A community is before you make claims about the “attack dog styles”.

inb4 we need to stand united against Bloomberg/MDA/etc, those are not the allies we need or want.

        • tranny. Wars are won by coalitions, allies. Not by lone haranguers. There are fine cops and .gov workers that are good allies to our cause. Running them off does none of us any good.

        • Do you really want to associate with the SWAT murderers and drug war fanatics in the 2A community, or gun companies like Troy and HS Precision?

With allies like that, why even have 2A to begin with?

        • @Tranny, I live in Rankin County, MS. I had never heard of Cory Maye until you brought him up on another article on this site. I was in Basic Training/AIT and then out of the country during his arrest and trial which explains why I didn’t hear about it when it happened. But if people were still slandering him to this day, I would probably know about it. I’m friends with a fair amount of LEO’s in Rankin County and have never heard him mentioned once. Like I said before, based on the evidence I’ve seen, it looks like Cory got boned. There doesn’t appear to be a way to un-bone him. But he’s alive and free today so why keep hammering on this the way you do? There is way to present your argument that doesn’t end with you looking like a complete tool and turning open minded people against you. Maybe you’re just young and don’t know any better.

        • It is worth hammering on because for all the rhetoric on the castle doctrine from the 2A community, by far the biggest threat to one’s home today is from criminals with government badges. Why get a gun to protect your home and family when the cops will make sure you’ll never survive the encounter?

Another name for you: Jose Guerena, another man who tried to defend his family against home invaders.

By the way I hope the cops stopped slandering Mr. Maye. I said that government lawyers (i.e. Mississippi prosecutors) were still doing it, not cops.

        • I actually know some of the MS state prosecutors too. Again, I’ve never heard his name mentioned. Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that the gun he used to defend himself was stolen which likely had some bearing on his case. I think it’s highly unlikely that local law enforcement would ever serve a warrant at my house, especially the “no knock” warrant in the middle of the night that you seem to be afraid of. They know I’m well armed and well trained in the art of self defense. Plus, I don’t associate with known criminals, or engage in any activity that would lead to a warrant being served at my house. It also helps that I apprehended 3 gang members (they were claiming latin kings) that I caught breaking into my neighbors house for them. All of that aside, your problem seems to be that you view all LEO’s as bad. You seem to view all government as bad. You need to understand that government and law and order are necessary to a certain extent to maintain a free society. I think the Federal Government has gotten too big, they’ve trampled many of our rights, and we need to take action to reign it in. But I’m actually pretty happy with my state government. Maybe you live in one of the commie states where local LEO’s trample all over your rights and that’s why you have your current point of view. Or maybe you just have a bad attitude.

        • It’s cute when you believe that cops won’t break into your house on the flimsiest of excuses. Look up the raid on the house of the mayor of Berwyn Heights Maryland (Cheye Calvo), or the man I already listed (Jose Guerena), people who did nothing wrong, did not associate with so-called “criminals” and yet one was terrorized and the other murdered by police goons.

Your lines are the same garbage lines parroted by the law-and-order fascists to justify police criminality being inflicted on other people. What’s the saying? “First they came…”. Naturally copsuckers are ignorant of history.

  11. I’m pretty sure most of us IDed the future trouble-makers in the first few minutes of this vid. I grew up with those kind of assholes – I could practically smell them coming before they walked into frame.

  12. Personally I hate it when people use statistics like this. ” blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder according to a 2005 New Century Foundation study.”

it perpetuates that just because I am black I’m more likely to commit a crime…

We need to get away from grouping people together based on race. Just because I’m black doesn’t mean I’m more likely to murder or rob someone.

Its like saying a white person is 100 times more likely to be a member of the KKK than any other race…
I would never assume all white people are in the Klan but the statistic is true…

These kind of stats perpetuate the stereotype of the black criminal and that if you are black you must be up to nefarious things, based solely on the color of your skin.

We need to stop looking at race as a being a determining factor. That kind of thinking leads us down the road of the “stop and frisk” tactics, where I become a suspect based on my melanin content.

When we need to look for the actual cause. Socioeconomic, eduation, family structure, etc.

blanket statements cover a vast group of people is never a good thing and will never get us to the heart of the problem.

Also I’m interested in looking further into “The color of crime” and I will when I get the time.

    • Unfortunately most people don’t understand statistics and will inevitably apply the average to the spread.

    • Personally I hate it when people use statistics like this. ” blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder according to a 2005 New Century Foundation study.”

it perpetuates that just because I am black I’m more likely to commit a crime…

It’s also another example of how statistics can be misused. There’s a difference between comitting a crime and being convicted of a crime.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t care because they are never the target or even potential of these things.

    • We need to get away from grouping people together based on race.

Amen. I agree. Now please convince Al Sharpton, the Federal Government, the MSM and Baltimore.

  13. Self-defense is by nature color-blind. And good on him: the knock out thugs need to be introduced to the Glock out game 🙂

    • How in the world did this man have the sense to be combat ready at 2 am at a Waffle House? He may be my hero!

      • Maybe it was like that old song:

        It’s a quarter to three,
There’s no-one in the joint but Joe and me.
        So, stick ’em up Joe . . . .

      • He may work the graveyard shift somewhere and naturally be awake and alert at that time. When I was in the Army I worked the 6PM to 6AM shift and was always awake at weird hours even on my off days.

    • “And good on him: the knock out thugs need to be introduced to the Glock out game 🙂 ”

Like those signs put up after a disaster: ‘You loot, we shoot’

Get a T-shirt printed that says on the back and front: ‘Knock Out? Glock Out!’

  14. I’ve wondered for a long time. Do those gang members have some one cut eight or nine inches off their pant legs, or do they just buy them that way from some store in the flood plane.

  15. What did I just say on a post yesterday? Progressives want to be able to get away with being “rude” without paying any personal penalty. Don’t be “rude” (or rush someone) and you don’t have to worry about anyone shooting you or just plain beating you unconscious.

    • That guy without the shirt was not trying to be anything like rude, he was intent on being brutal, beating someone up, as he probably had hundreds of times in the past. “Watch me kick this coon’s ass!” Could not have ended better, assholes must die.

  16. I’m glad chief Craig in Detroit and sheriff Clark in Milwaukee county are two black men in leadership positions to tell especially black people it is ok to have a gun and use it if necessary kill to defend your self and your love ones. Using violence to defend the innocent is not a sin. Too many people black or white or anything else do not understand this.

Most white people do not understand the anti gun propaganda that is taught to black kids like the type I was exposed to in the 1970,s in California. This is why books like “the negro and the gun, the black tradition of firearms” by Nicholas Johnson are so important. Or my hero Clayton Cramer with his racist gun control history research from the early 1990,s.

The white guy attacking the black man was armed. He had two big ones. Just as Michael Brown had two big arms on him when he attacked officer Wilson in Ferguson Missouri. Both deserved to get shot.

  17. There has never been an incident where the black community protested or looted when a white person killed an unarmed black man and there was video to justify the killing. Similar to this video. Had the roles been reversed and the shooter was white, there would be not outcry of injustice because the VIDEO clearly shows that he was defending himself and the victim got what he deserved.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not justifying looting by any means. But I read a few comments that implied that this would have been another “Black Lives Matter” case and I disagree.

  18. I know he didn’t intend to kill the racist white thug, just tried to stop him, but I’m sure glad he’s dead.

  19. I could not care less if honest law abiding blacks shoot white thugs in self defense.

It’s just that interracial crime is over whelmingly black on white, and whites often get called “racist” for pointing it out.

if American whites committed crimes at the rates that blacks currently do, and blacks acted like the Swedish, I’d be criticizing American crackers and praising American blacks.

    • Are you implying that whites don’t commit crimes? You should pick up a history book before you say anything else in reference to race. If whites did it for 450+ years unchecked, what makes you think they have changed today?

      • not at all. I’m saying inter-racial crime in America TODAY is overwhelmingly black on white. This is why DGUs by law abiding blacks on white thugs doesn’t happeb very often, but hey, I love it when a DGU from any law abiding person stops thugs of any color.

  20. what saved the shooters own life is what he did at 13:49 in the video…. smart man. he could have been cursing and acting stupid after the shooting, but i think this was the smartest thing he could have done.
