New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is the Mayor who just announced he’s doing his part to defund the police by  cutting $1 billion of the New York Police Department’s budget. He’s also the Mayor who recently disbanded the NYPD’s 600-man plainclothes anti-crime unit. Oh, and he’s also the Mayor who’s been forced to limit the number of cops who can apply for retirement after droves of the boys in blue started rushing for the exits in late May.

To no one’s surprise — unless you happen to work in government or the media — New York City, like so many large urban centers, is experiencing a huge spike in criminal activity, including shootings. But never fear Warren Wilhelm, Jr. Mayor de Blasio has a plan for reducing criminality in the Big Apple, one block at a time.

And guess what: Bill’s plan features more cops on the streets. It’s true, you really can’t make this stuff up.

The man who’s done more than any other human being to tie the hands and reduce the number of police officers in the NYPD is planning on utilizing more of them to staunch the flow of blood in his city.

From the New York Post:

We will take back our streets in Harlem and all over our city but we’re going to do it from the ground up,” de Blasio said. “We are going to break the cycle of violence.”

“Now starting tonight, you’re going to see a combination of things happening … increased NYPD presence at hotspots at key locations, more patrol officers on foot in vehicles, but also more community presence because that is the key to this, community leaders, committee organizations walking with police officers showing common cause,” the mayor added.

Maybe the these community leadersWho will these community leaders and organizers be who will be patrolling the streets with beat cops?

The plan appears to lean heavily on increasing the neighborhood watch, adding community members as “violence interrupters,” opening up churches and putting clergy and faith-based outreach programs on the streets — as well as boosting police presence on more than 20 streets and in city housing complexes.

If this sounds vaguely familiar, it should. It’s the same plan that Chicago has used to try to reduce the total number of shootings and dead bodies there over the last decade…with such smashing success.

De Blasio said the initiative is also aimed at engaging youth, with pop-up basketball events and a youth town hall.

Shades of Bill Clinton’s midnight basketball. And we’re sure that gathering New York’s youths for earnest heart-to-heart meetings will be just what the violence interrupting doctor ordered.

“We have to do better and this weekend coming up has to be better, particularly in Harlem, where we’re focusing a lot of our efforts. Everyone agreed on a common vision, working together.”

Note that the term “bail reform” wasn’t mentioned in the account of Hizzoner’s grand plan. Nor does it mention bringing back the sorely missed anti-crime unit.

So to sum up, Mayor de Blasio’s is now relying on the same police force that he’s been fighting against since the day he was elected to do something about the crime problem his own policies have created. Good luck with that, Mr. Mayor.

The real tragedy here is the effect the de Blasio-inspired crime wave has had and will continue to have on the city’s law-abiding citizens. And it’s not like they can run out and buy themselves a firearm to defend themselves and their families from the feral criminal population that now freely roams the city. That privilege is reserved for the precious few who know the right palms to grease.

  1. Send Mayor de Blasio out on calls, however the Leftard would be to chicken chit to go out in his chithole of a city and the thugs would devour him.

      • Yeah, but the police under Koch were brutal.

It seems the new “rulers” have a weak stomach for hurting their voters. Even if you beat them with sticks, and shoot them with rubber bullets, they will still vote for you now.

  2. LOL you just cut a billion dollars from the police to appease the criminal mobs, we all know who is really in charge here. You ain’t taking back shit.

    Happy days for NYC criminality.

    • “Happy days for NYC criminality.”

It’s the recipe for more ‘gun control’.

Step 1 – Allow violence to skyrocket.

Step 2 – When it gets bad enough that people ‘want something done’, then you pass more gun control.

All the while, you never crack down on those doing the killings. You *need* them to pass yet more laws later…

      • This x 1k. I’d take this opportunity to expand on that, a bit.

That’s been the playbook for an era, the only difference in the modern day, is the width & breadth of reporting. Not more incidents statistically. Simply a wider spread, one might even say common, knowledge thereof. Which makes it only seem like there is more, to the normal person only half paying attention.

Used to be, most of the occurrences were local news only. Now, they are national news headlines. What was once national newsworthy alone, is now internationally reported news.

Couple that with beating the dead horse for ages, instead of reporting on the originating circumstance and the aftermath, then moving on to the next story. Ex. Think of the actual mass shootings, and in how many MSM report’s do you still hear references to Aurora, Columbine, and all the other well known events? Keeps them all fresh in minds, again manipulating the average persons perception of MOAR SHOOTINGS. That is psy op tactics, being used by the MSM.

    • If he wants the police to start arresting people, they can start with him for painting a graffiti “mural” on the street in front of Trump Tower, which is in clear violation of State and Federal DoT standards for traffic roadway markings.

If somehow it’s not a violation, I have an idea for First Street right in front of the Supreme Court building.

      • He ruled against large gathering. Unless they were BLM protests. Must be okay with New Yorker’s Since they are all complying.

        • News Flash for Mayor de Blasio. He can’t rule out large gatherings in New York. New York IS a large gathering.

  3. On the plus side, recent reports are the NYC rent prices are dropping and there are increased numbers of vacancies.

    • No kidding, these obnoxious azzholes are invading the Southeastern states, where they bring their problems, shitty attitude, and where they will vote for the same mentally ill socialists.

  4. “De Blasio said the initiative is also aimed at engaging youth, with pop-up basketball events”

Yeah, that’s the way to do it. When confronted with a gang of thugs, toss ’em a basketball. Works every time.

De Blasio’s “plan” is the punchline to a bad old joke.

    • That happened to me not long ago. Had to straddle a 6′ tall chain link fence in order to perform a repair to a piece of equipment that was positioned in a very inconvenient and odd location. No ladder possible due to the fence and the surroundings, so up on the fence I went, gonads under pressure while my knees squeezed the top bar for balance. Took me over an hour to complete, with several trips up and down the fence. Ended up with two golf-ball sized bruises in the Danger Zone and a cowboy walk for the rest of the day.

        • Not possible. Communism is not compatible with anything he claimed or claims to believe in. In 1990 he claimed to support the goal of Democratic Socialism, which by it’s basic nature is anti-Marxist-Leninist and anti-Communist. Nothing in his history indicates a shift toward Communism either in its theory or its practice.

        • Are you really trying to say that socialism is anti-Marxist? How about if I nod politely and then reveal that I’ve got oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you?

        • Ing,

No, of course not. But “Democratic Socialist” is absolutely anti-Marxist-Leninist and anti-Communist. If you had a “Democratic Socialist” country bordering a Marxis-Leninist Socialist country (or Communist), the Marxist-Leninist (or commie) would wage war on the Democratic Socialist. It would probably not start out the other way around, but it would lead to warfare eventually.

Just because the terms sound similar does not make them mean the same thing. Democratic Socialists believe in rule by the people, in democracy (direct or representative) and one citizen one vote. Marxist-Leninist thinking does not trust the people it claims to free, and rule is invariably always tyrannical, authoritarian, the “Party Elite”. Think East Germany, the Soviet Union, Communist China.

Different forms of evil stupid outdated utopian concepts, but different enough they would fight each other if they had to share a border.

        • “Distinction without a difference.”

No, you just don’t understand the difference. If you lived in North Korea and then went to Iceland you might note that they are not the same.

        • I really don’t give a F, let NYC rot. I am just debating whether I should buy a .40sw or a 10mm.

        • “The ultimate end of socialism is communism.” Karl Marx

        • Enuf, Lenin told all the Russians the they were ‘democratic socialists’ as he was destroying the country. Russians didn’t want communism so Lenin lied.
          Don’t lie to yourself.

        • Self proclaimed Democratic Socialist wannabe, which he has never succeeded at and appears to be more of a fashion statement for him seeing as how it’s been 30 years since he said it.

And Karl Marx would have been outraged to hear the philosophy of a Democratic Socialist. Simply not the same animal. Still bad, but quite different.

        • There is no such thing as Democratic Socialism. It is just s Marxist term used to deceive people like you. The Scandinavian countries object to that descriptors. They are all market economies. Sweden has no minimum wage law and has retirement system similar to FERS complete with the equivalent of 401k programs.

De Blasio is self proclaimed communist.

      • to enuf
De blabbermouth is a communist. And you are lying to yourself. Or you know he is a communist and you are lying to the rest of us.

  5. The mayor can say he’s doing some of the right stuff, but it is all words lacking substance. The “Violence Interrupters” idea has been around for years and does work. But what he is describing is not that. The Mayor should call on this organization, give them some money and stand back and let them work:

    Cure Violence.
    https://cvg.org/
“Cure Violence views violence as a disease that can be prevented using public health methods. Formerly known as Ceasefire, the national program trains outreach workers and violence interrupters – raised in the very streets where they work – to identify people most likely to be involved in gun violence and redirect them to make non-violent choices. In communities severely affected by violence, it uses data to identify potentially violent events and its trained staff of violence interrupters and outreach workers, who keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s happening on the streets.”

  6. In other words do nothing except blame someone, or something, else for failure. The failures of Socialist State policies, rules, regulations, laws, are not their fault, it’s ours.

    • When the first group of”social” workers end up dead, it will become a unfilable position.
      Any takers.

      • The “social workers” going on community patrols with the cops will be SJW activists with left-wing ties.
        Bet on it.
The stuff going on in our cities is fueled by money laundering and racketeering operations run by unaccountable political front organizations shielded by NGOs and charities protected by politicians. People who have lick of common sense see money passed by donations into ActBlue, the DNC, and the leftover remnants of the Weather Underground who are still out there.
        Tell me I’m wrong.

  7. I can’t wait until one or more of the “violence interrupters” is shot an killed. Chuckles all around.

    • Again, if that happens it will be blamed on the police who will take more and more budget cuts.
Cuts that will be diverted into more SJW “policing”. It’s the same logic that begets more gun laws from rising crime.
It’s a rigged game where citizens lose, every time.

    • More money diverted away from police departments and into social programs tailored to fund more SJW activism.
      Bet on it.

  8. Maybe I’m just a little dense, but I’m failing to grasp just exactly what a violence interrupter is or does. Are they supposed to step into the middle of a shoot-out and ask everyone to just stop? Do they ask everyone to stop for good (that would be a violence terminator), or just take a break for a while? Do they show up when the cops get violent? I don’t get it.

    • It’s a diversion of funding from the police into SJW activist front organizations.
Everything else is smoke and mirrors.

    • No need. She sits at home collecting skims from the SJW kickbacks.
If anyone in his family is on the street for kicks it’s his nappy-headed and tatted-up kids. Case in point, his daughter who was arrested recently.

  9. All this is propaganda for a helpful hand to get Sleepy Joe elected. After that you can bet that
the SWHTF BIG TME! The cops know it all too well and it will be interesting to see if they play
    along with Comrade De Blasio.

  10. Cops who can retire in big cities are doing it. Those that are close will ride it out. Those that are NOT close to retirement might be wise to consider a career change or at least a move to a department that isn’t a place like NYC, Baltmore, etc. And those that become cops there now are fools… or worse.

At the same time the cities are going to cut funding and want more of the police, of which there are less.

They must be using new math. One of the funny things is that cities like NY and Chicago will have council members ‘speak out’ against the high pensions and deferred payments of cops who are now retiring with huge spikes of overtime upping their benefits. Not a peep from those council members when the contracts were signed that gave police a lower salary in exchange for better benefits down the line.

“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today” except they never expect Tuesday to come around.

  11. I wonder what will happen when the first “violence interrupters” is shot & killed by some gang banger? No doubt it will be blamed on his cop “partner”.

  12. Think the presence of “public officials” would help or hinder? I suspect the latter would prove to be the case, but who can tell. Of course, there are problems in and with police agencies. I would not think that police calls should become an Amateur Hour type operation though.

  13. So, let’s see how this pans out. He’s going to make community leaders get out on the streets WITH the cops so that they actually see what the cops see. That’s a good start.
However, watch the reaction from community leaders turn into, Hey Mayor, we need more cops on the street! Stop trying to destroy the NYPD.”

I really don’t think this is going to turn out like he thinks it will. But, then again, I am talking about the nation’s dumbest mayor.

  14. I wonder when the gun grabbing will start? Gotta disarm those citizens so they can’t protect themselves.
This entire charade is classic American leftist totalitarianism.
    The government fathers the problem.
    The government fuels the problem.
The government then pretends that the solution to said self-created problem is even more government and one-sided laws of ignorances passed in the name of more false safeties and fraudulent securities that protect and serve absolutely nothing beyond the governments own goddamned diseased agenda in furthering the progressive criminalization of the abided citizenry.
Because why attempt to catch real criminals when you can create criminals by criminalizing the abided populace.
    We saw what prohibition caused.
We saw what the deluded war on drugs caused.
We saw what government gun control caused.
This stupid Neanderthal style of governance must be eradicated from the powers of government before it destroys citizenry, country, and constitution.
It’s time to restore the constitution, real accountability, and consequence back into the political realm.
The the right to bear arms and self protection are inalienable rights. Politicians who can’t handle or acknowledge that reality needs to thrown from the steps of government.
The American people shouldn’t have ever abided by Rooseveltian/great society/nanny state bullshit in the first place.
A government that doesn’t fear accountability is a corrupt criminal government that doesn’t fear anything because it gets away with everything.
