Newly sworn-in Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has taken a strong stance in support of gun rights with her on her trip to Washington, DC. She proclaimed throughout the campaign and since her election of her plans to take her GLOCK to work in Congress.

Note that in the video above, Boebert appears to walk through the District with a pistol concealed under her jacket. One which is presumably not registered in D.C. and for which she doesn’t have a permit to carry there.

Boebert’s proclamation didn’t sit well with Democrats in the nation’s capital city. The District of Columbia police chief has threatened to arrest the Congresswoman earlier this week.

Trending Politics reports on the DC top cop’s not-so-subtle threats:

“That congresswoman, whoever it is, I guess it was from Colorado, will be subjected to the same penalties as anyone else that’s caught on the District of Columbia street that’s carrying a firearm,” Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said Monday, adding he plans on reaching out directly to her.

In general, a person must be licensed to carry a concealed firearm in the District, while open carry is prohibited. However, there are exceptions for legally registered firearms,” according to the police department.

“That congresswoman, whoever it is?” The lack of respect and courtesy displayed by Contee for Rep. Boebert is appalling. Besides, isn’t misgendering now a high crime in leftists circles?

Time will tell how this saga plays out. We’ll see if chief Contee is willing to back up his threat and arrest a sitting Member of Congress as she walks to work every day with a concealed firearm on her hip. No matter what happens, Lauren Boebert will be a fresh face worth watching as she advocates for gun rights for all Americans.

  1. Yeah, go for it D.C.! Let’s see if you can handle a five foot woman doing your job! Maybe if you were that aggressive with your street gangs…..

    • If there’s any example that a right is turned into a privilege if we allow TPTB to dictate them, this is certainly one. D.C. has temporarily prohibited guns “within 1000 feet of any First Amendment activity” thru tomorrow. Residents of D.C. who hold carry permits are not exempted, and must also comply.

So D.C. says you may not carry a gun, as protected in the 2A, but will allow you to if you pay them money for a little laminated card. Except when they then decide that little card isn’t good enough, then it’s back to no soup for you.

The National Guard was called in to (reportedly) assist local police in enforcing this prohibition.

As I write this, it’s T-minus 19 minutes to Pence beginning the E.C. certification process…

    • Wouldn’t it be nice if SOMEBODY in government, especially the Chief of Police in the nation’s capital, would even bother to read the Constitution they swear an oath to uphold and defend?

      SECTION. 6.
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation
for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid
out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all
Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be
privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session
of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning
from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either
House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

      • Did you notice that congresscritters don’t get a pass for felonies?

The maximum penalty for unlicensed carry of a handgun in DC is five years in prison. Definite felony territory.

  2. I asked this question in a previous article. Don’t you have to be a resident of DC in order to obtain a carry permit?

“Besides, isn’t misgendering now a high crime in leftists circles?”

I thought we were going to get rid of all references to gender. See, in order to be inclusive, you have exclude. Just go with it, and don’t think about it too much bigot! Oh, and how will the French handle this? Nouns are either masculine or feminine. Maybe they could replace le and la with X? That sounds about right…

    • Dude,

I am about 85% sure that you do NOT need to be a District of Columbia resident to acquire a District of Columbia concealed handgun carry license.

      • [Requirements to register a handgun in the District] -> “Two (2) Proofs of Residency”
Somehow I don’t think proving residency in Colorado or Virginia counts.

        • You need to read about Wrenn.

I’m a MD resident. Got my DC permit two years ago when I was furloughed. Best service I ever got from a government entity.

You’ll need training in order to lawfully exercise your rights. Check out Arsenal Attorneys. The head honcho there, who teaches the class because its fun for him, represented a security guard named Dick Heller before a tiny court just east of the Capitol building.

He also teaches the shooting portion. Best firearms instruction I ever had.

        • BenjiMac48,

I spent a good 15 minutes on the D.C. government website looking through several web pages and forms with respect to firearm registration and concealed carry licensing: I was unable to find any explicit residency requirements. Please provide a specific link for such a requirement on the D.C. government website.

    • “I asked this question in a previous article. Don’t you have to be a resident of DC in order to obtain a carry permit?”

She’s a legal resident. Did you miss the part in the article where she mentions “walking to work”? Her signed lease and copies of her water and electric bills are proof of residency.

Her employment address and paycheck are issued in DC…

  3. National reciprocity or or even better, Constitutional carry are the only things that will fix this Bull$hit.

      • @Kahlil Yup, zero chance of anything good happening. I was just making a statement…they (politicians and anti-gunners) hate us because we are a threat to them…even though we have never acted as such except once, when they all wore red coats.

      • Hell, GOOD LUCK preserving the RTKBA (at least as we’ve known it) for the next four years, period. It’s pretty much going to be up to 5 Supreme Court Justices (since Justice Roberts is unreliable, at best) to forestall the ‘Europeanization’ of our nation’s gun policy. That is, at least until ‘progressives’ make good on their threat to ‘pack’ the Supreme Court… SMH

  4. There were members of Congress who used to get around the DC gun laws by getting themselves deputized as ‘Special U.S. Marshals”. The practice supposedly got shut down some time ago

  5. I hope this white congresswoman uses her position to speak about the crime in DC. The fact that white people can get guns. And law abiding blacks can’t. She should be asking this black police chief, why innocent black people can’t have guns like his white friends can?

Because I’m sure his white friends do have gun permits in the city. Ya I went there. This is about race.

      • I’m sure the black police chief made sure his white liberal friends got their business taken care of first. Before the black residents of the District of Columbia.

  6. IIRC it is currently illegal to arrest a congressperson who is on their way to or from a legislative session. So if the chief does decide to make an issue of it, I do not believe it will go well for the PD for a number a reasons.

    • “They [Congress] shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.”

If that police chief is that stupid, he should be stripped of his badge as he is not fit to serve. Of course I suppose he could claim breach of the peace. We shall see.

      • He just got sworn in like 2 days ago I think. And it was my understanding from a previous TTAG article that as you say, the congress people are exempt and can carrying. Pelosi et all were going to try and prohibit carry but that seems to have vaporized for the time being.

        • That exemption is in the federal building. They still must abide by all local, state and federal laws. However, they are immune from being arrested for many crimes during the session…

    • FtUN and Michael Crognale,

Michael Crognale provided the relevant quote from the U.S. Constitution. The District of Columbia Police Chief will simply claim that Congresswoman Boebert is guilty of a “Felony or Breach of the Peace” (for carrying a concealed handgun without a license and/or carrying an unregistered handgun) and arrest her without any reservations.

The only reason that D.C. police have not already arrested her is because the optics are REALLY bad and they are hoping that she will “voluntarily” acquiesce to their disarmament demands.

      • How are they going to know if she’s carrying? If’s she’s as smart as I think she is, she’ll have it well concealed and the cops will have no probable cause to stop/frisk her without major adverse effects. They will only know for sure if she has to ventilate 1 or more people who might attack her.

    • My thoughts exactly. I would like to see the chief arrest a sitting member of Congress. That won’t go well for him.

  7. Normally I would point out such a person as a hypocrite except I think she’s trying to push for reforms and therefore is far more of a ground breaker. What sucks is if there’s a precedence because of her carry it may be very narrow in scope e.g. applying to congress who by all appearances has a carve out.

  8. D.C. just hasn’t been much fun since Mayor for Life Marion Barry departed. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Chief Contee will get swept up in a sting organized by Boebert. Then Contee might repeat those immortal words from Barry:

    “Bitch set me up.”

Barry’s grift is the grift that keeps on giving.

    • “Bitch set me up.”

Notice, not “The bitch set me up”, just “Bitch set me up.”.

DC was more honest under coke-head Mayor Marion Barry’s version of ‘leadership’…

  9. First, I would like to see her introduce a Bill that provides that citizens will be protected in their rights, privileges, immunities and other legal protections to the same degree as all government employees, even those who are elected.

Second, she should put anyone who violates her rights under citizens arrest and file lawsuit for violation of rights, violation of oath and oppression of color authority.

Washington DC must obey and enforce the Constitution. And Representatives certainly have the authority to demand such.

  10. Senator Fienstien was not stopped from bringing into DC a modern sporting rifle and normal magazines.
    Equal justice for ALL

  11. Chief Contee? Change the first vowel in her last name to the next vowel of the English language. YMMV.
