“This is the most humiliating day in my life,” the driver said, rolling down his window and looking at me with puppy dog eyes. Normally, I wouldn’t gas-up at the Sunoco at the bottom of the hill. And certainly not at night. But I was driving on fumes and my gymnastics-crazed daughter likes to be late like I like to be late. Which is to say she doesn’t. It was bad enough when the hoodie-wearing gentleman ambled by. But SUV guy was only slightly less fishy than a can of tuna. “Nope, sorry,” I said, interrupting him, unbuttoning my jacket, ceasing pumpage, looking for accomplices and moving around the Merc. “Ask someone else.” He left as quickly as he arrived. I’m packing a handgun not an AR-15. But put me at home, cut power to my ‘hood for a couple of weeks and look! Here come the pretend destitute. To exchange meaningful glances with my SCAR. What part of that makes me a bad person? Maybe we should ask some of our newsmakers . . .

We have the right to go to the movies without being gunned down in our seats. We have the right to pray in our houses of worship without being victimized by a mentally unstable young man and his assault weapon. More than anything, we have the right to send our kids to school in the morning with the guarantee that they’ll return home in the afternoon.

  1. Ha to the CNN guy. What a delusion. You only have the right to whatever you can take, and only for as long as you can hold onto it.

  2. In my yoot, when i reloaded, I had a .357 Ruger. The loading manuals at that time, Late 70’s, always had seperate pages for max loads for Rugers and Contenders. These pages were seperate from the pages with Colt and Smith and Wessons. All cap warning letters across the Ruger/Contender page, Don’t try these max loads in Colts or Smith and Wesson.

Ruger is a tougher beast than most. Straight from the factory box I prefer the trigger on Smith and Wesson.

    • My dad has a new model Blackhawk .357 convertible. I love shooting that gun! I actually want to pick up one for myself. Then I have three options for ammo depending on what’s sold out at the time.

      • My brother bought one of those in 1976. It remains his only handgun. He lives in the country in West Virginia. He has never felt the need for another handgun.

I personally like a little variety in my choice of handguns.. But if you were only going to have 1 my brother and your dad made smart choices.

        • I’ve got a Davidson’s GP 100 that Impact Guns did a trigger job for me on, and it has to be one of the sweetest shooting revolvers I’ve ever had the privilege of shooting. The old man’s got a 686 “Joker special” with the 8″ barrel, though, and that one comes daaaaamn close.

    • Its not that it is tougher, it is just that it has thicker cylinders because it wasnt designed to be a blackpowder gun like a Colt SAA. However for the .357 I really wonder if those warnings were accurate, I could see them for a .45 but not a 357.

      • I had a service six, a double action duty revolver in .357 I was loading for along with my brothers blackhawk. Whether the manuals were being overly cautious or not I couldn’t say.

But the Rugers and the Contenders were definately rated as safer for the heavier loads.

    • SP-101, the GP-100’s little brother is one tough dude. Built like a tank and can be stuck in a coat pocket with the 3″ barrel, the SP-101 is a 5 shot J frame that can take full power 357 abuse all day long. It weighs around 27 oz.

  3. Tell mark to just find a movie house with a bigger sign, Yeah, that should do it. His drivel reminds me of the high power logic of jesse jerkson, mr I’m tired of burying black criminals. Well, I’m tired of black crime & guess what? so are the decent hard working blacks around here, Randy

    • If you’re shocked by NY Republicans you should reflect on this: Cuomo had announced early on that he intended to drive investigations into Clayton Holdings’ revelations and the fraud they revealed in the mortgage-backed securities bundling process, and into several other banking issues. Suddenly he cut a deal and dropped most anti-finance agenda items. Clayton was bought by Bof NY Mellon. Is it clear now? NY Republican players don’t need real guns. They have other people to do that bit for them, just as Bloomberg does.

  4. After reading the NSSF doc, it’s confirmed: NYS residents are fuuuuuuucked.

If the NYS gun orgs don’t get a campaign going right freaking now to drive awareness and do some rabble-rousing to get these laws overturned, they’re fools.

    • Also: WTF on the whole “NSSF is helping the NYS legislature correct the defects in the SAFE Act” bullshyt? That’s giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Has nobody told them we want this law thrown out, not fixed up?

    • I’m sorry, but I’m sticking with DHS’s label, “Personal Defense Weapons.” If that’s what they call full auto, maybe I’ll call M4geries “Minimalist Personal Defense Weapons.”

  5. I love my GP-100 (I call her Geanie). Idk what it is but I’ve started shooting it better than I do my M&P9, even in double action (and yes I do have an Apex trigger installed). I love how easy it is to swap the sight, you just need a punch to push in a spring loaded detent, no gunsmith required. I put a fiberobtic front sight onboard, and picked up one of the old style grips with the wood panels. I also picked up some aftermarket checkered panels. Not only does it look way more sexy, I find it a lot more comfortable than the stock hogue finger grip.

  6. The New York LEOs are already trying to weasel out of their culpability: “We’re the implementers,” Hogan said. “We’re not the legislators.”

Oh, I get it. You’re just following orders. Well, that defense has already been used by guys with prettier uniforms than yours and taller jackboots. It didn’t work then, and it won’t work now.

  7. I can’t believe this post has been up for hours without someone connecting “Strip and Flip” with the pulchritudinous MissBattleBorn.

  8. New Yorkers are going to have to get reacquainted with the New York Reload. Two Taurus 709 Slims or two of the new Springfield XDs’ would get you back up to reasonable capacity. If 7 rounds in the mag means 7+1 is legal, you could end up with 16 rounds in a NY reload with some of these small pistols. Also it would be amusing if the response to the SAFE act was to simply proliferate more handguns.

  9. Of note for Mr. Glaze- you and/or your children are much more likely to die on the way to or from the movies, church, or school due to an auto accident than you are to be involved in a mass shooting of any sort.

  10. Couldn’t help myself last week. Our local gun store had just bought a slightly-used S&W Model 60-15 (stainless J-frame, 3″ barrel, adj sights, .357). Incredibly slick trigger, and I am a sucker for the aesthetics of a 3″ barrel on a J-frame. Plus, I already have a Milt Sparks holster for a similar S&W (J-frame Model 360 scandium kit gun /.357).

So, with the price of a brick of .22LR reaching $35, the $600 was a trifle – hey, that isn’t even 10 bricks of .22 ammo (if you can find any).

“Hi, my name is IdahoPete, and I am a Smith & Wesson accumulator.”

    • Reminds me of the less refined but very stout Ruger SP-101 with 3″ barrel. About 4 oz heavier and with a trigger that ‘aint as nice’ as a S&W, but can be worked on.

      • Yeah, I have the 3″ Ruger SP101 too, and like it quite a bit (hey, I can deal with it, OK? I have enough room in the safe – honest!). I have fairly small hands and stubby fingers, and the S&W fits better.

        How’s that for a rationalization?

        • When in doubt…..get both (as they each have their charms). I have a S&W627pro 8 shot with 4″ barrel that is 42 oz, and it fits the role of ‘big brother’ to the SP. Hows that for rationalization?

  11. Didn’t I see that lady on a Hildebrandt calendar?

Don: “Also it would be amusing if the response to the SAFE act was to simply proliferate more handguns.”
What would really be amusing would be the death of Lyin’ Andy’s Presidential delusions. Howard Dean’s attempt to become Dear Leader ended with his famous
” EEEARGH” scream. Somehow I doubt the rest of the nation will want follow The Demokratik Sheoples’ Republik of Noo Yawk in civilian disarmament, and that Andy’s hysterical belchings about “NO ONE NEEDS 10 BULLETS TO KILL A DEEAH!!” will return to haunt him.
