springfield-crosscannon_2016-smallWhen the facts and the numbers don’t support your argument, change the “facts” and the numbers: Dems press ATF to update decades-old gun violence data – “House Democrats are calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to update a report it last published nearly two decades ago about gun violence to help inform public policy on the issue. The request, in the form of a letter to ATF Director Thomas Brandon, comes after Democrats staged a sit-in on the House floor this summer to bring attention to what they see as congressional inaction in response to mass shootings.”

I don’t think ‘statistics’ means what they say it means: Debunking Suicide “Research” by Public Health Activists – “Are anti-gun public health activists as statistically ignorant as they appear, or do they think their audiences are? They may be right about the journalists who parrot their parodies of scientific research. A recent article in The Trace, ‘Ten essential facts about guns and suicide’, reminded me of a pungent saying by the famous comedian, W.C. Fields: ‘If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b—s—.’ This article is chock full of BS, ‘bogus science.'”

Standoff Leader: Carrying Guns Let Larger Message to Get Out – “The leader of a 41-day standoff at a national wildlife refuge in Oregon testified that he orchestrated the takeover to take ‘a hard stand’ against the federal government’s control of public lands and said the occupiers would not be successful unless they carried guns. Ammon Bundy’s two days of testimony have taken jurors from his family’s high-profile 2014 standoff with federal agents in Nevada to this winter’s occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, revealing the connections between the two. Bundy asserted the Nevada standoff triggered the activism that led him to Oregon.”

DA blasts pair who tried to rob guns from undercover officers – “An accused opioid pusher held a gun to the head of an undercover state trooper before his accomplice opened fire on police in a brazen daylight shootout that launched an hourslong manhunt that terrified a tightknit Roslindale neighborhood, authorities said in court yesterday. ‘These defendants allegedly set in motion events that could have gotten someone shot or much, much worse,’ Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said. ‘We’re extremely lucky that no one was seriously hurt.’” Thank goodness Maura Healey is doing her level best to ensure that fewer law abiding Bay Staters have access to firearms.

BB guns fired at Syracuse University students – “On three late-night walks during the past two months, BB guns have been fired at Syracuse University students. All three drive-by BB gun incidents happened when students were walking on the East Side of Syracuse near SU’s campus, reported the college’s Department of Public Safety. An alert was issued Wednesday — hours after the most recent incident.” Fortunately, the school is a gun-free zone so nothing like this could happen on the campus proper.

Hillary-supporting investment bank plays both sides of the fence: Goldman Sachs finally gets comfortable with guns – Lloyd Blankfein’s Goldman Sachs has found its comfort level with guns. The bank is playing a key role in Bass Pro Shops’ agreement to buy rival outdoors retailer Cabela’s for $5.5 billion. Cabela’s derives about 40 percent of its sales from hunting equipment — much of it from guns, like the Savage Arms .22 caliber on sale Wednesday for $449. “They say that all they are doing is placing the debt,” a source close to the deal said. “But look, they own the interest of a company that makes most of its money from selling guns.”

Getting ready for the Russkis: U.S. Army Adds Some Big Guns to Stryker Infantry Vehicle to Counter Russia – “Called the Stryker Enhanced Lethality Program, the effort was implemented as a rapid-development acquisition program to better equip 9-man infantry units with combat arms to support their missions, maneuvers and ground-attacks. ‘It is really about mobile protected fire power for the Infantry Brigade Combat Team. In the Combat Vehicle Modernization Plan it talks about every vehicle having an organic blend of those capabilities… mobility, protection and firepower,’ Maj. Gen. David Bassett, Program Executive Officer, Ground Combat Systems, told Scout Warrior in an interview.”

The latest from our friends at the Brady Campaign:

What question would you ask the candidates Sunday night?

  1. “to take ‘a hard stand’ against the federal government’s control of public lands…”

Tell me again, whose job is it to control public lands?

    • Well, ilinnoying curt, that’s suckin (D) talk. If your neighbors who need a job make your land public, or under BofLM’s control, you can ask them. Right now the U.S. Holds territory and contiguous ‘Land’ and you’ll be dead of old age if you’re lucky, or face down and holey in an OR snow bank if’n you ain’t, before your petition to utilize/purchase/demand a federal sale of any such land is even heard. YET hillary can sell off Uranium mines, and give away two islands off the coast of Alaska to Russia, in the space of one shiiiiitty term as Sec of State, and Ohole can give away the rest in 7+ years.

      • Sheesh Joe R, what the heck are you saying? Could you be a little more clear and a lot more articulate? And please don’t tell me you think a group of guys can just decide to “take back” Federal lands and redistribute it to themselves or whomever they please. That would make them no different than the acts you accuse “hillary” of doing.

      • DaMN Joe…incoherent much…Finicum and Bundy should have brought along more guys like you, with you and your brilliant command of the language on their side victory would have been assured…talk about your cranial rectal inversions..sheesh

        • You are all what’s keeping us on the defensive. You’re all despicable infighting kitten vaginas and I hope you get what you deserve, disarmament, slavery and death.

  2. Well I’m not frequenting Cabelas if it turns into Bass. Hedge your investment bets all you want-I will choose where to shop. Which I did as I put a gun on layaway yesterday at a local gunshop instead of Cabelas. I don’t know if they’ll be around next year…love their Herters pistol and shotgun ammo.

  3. In reference to the shirt the guy is wearing in picture #2:

Yeah, unless of course the other guy has a gun, bat, knife, sledgehammer, chainsaw, baseball bat, sword, car, brick on a rope, broken bottle or a plethora of other objects at his disposal. Or the other guy’s just been hitting the gym…

Oh, you’re gonna put up your dukes? Don’t make me laugh fat-boy. Look at that gut. You probably can’t run 100 yards without shaking like a leaf and you’re sure as hell not up to date on your martial arts with a stomach like that. Let’s be real here; you’re not going to “Bruce Lee” the guy with the knife at your throat or the .38 pointed at your dome there bud. You’re not going to “Bruce Lee” anyone. You’re an overweight sucker ripe to get picked on and nothing more.

  4. I read the t-shirt as saying “I’m a man, don’t I need a gun.” To which I would helpfully reply “of course.”

  5. If violent black lives matter protestors get invited to the White House will the Bundy’s who protested peacefully get an invite too?

  6. That first picture of all those helpless firearms, bundled and headed for destruction, always tugs at my heart strings. It’s worse than those humane society commercials with the sad puppies. I’m not exactly sure what that says about me.

  7. The Dems want the ATF to update the data because according to the article: “congressional offices and research organizations continue to regularly cite possibly outdated statistics from the report.”

What about the “40% of all gun sales are without a background check” statistic that they always use?

Oh, wait a minute. That fits their narrative. Nevermind.

  8. Whenever there’s a picture of a pile of turn-in & confiscated firearms, does anyone else here zoom in to try spotting rare/valuable guns…. and then go clean/shoot your own to feel better after seeing a Petersen rifle or Python being doomed to the smelter?
    Is that weird?

    • A few years ago I saw a picture of Captain Crunch crushing piles of M1 Garands. I took mine out of the safe, hugged her, and said “not while I’m alive”.

  9. The House Dems want the ATF to update a report that dates back to when violent crime was twice current levels? I don’t think they will be happy with the result.

  10. None of those three shootings are on the SU campus, except arguably the one on Ostrom Ave at Thornden Park. If those Orange-people want their safe space, they should stay inside the gun-free zone so all they have to contend with are drunks, rapists, and the visiting Penn State team.

  11. Never seen the Tyvek coveralls for arraignment. I guess they don’t want anything happening to the GSR on their clothes before they get swapped in for the carrot suit.

  12. Gun writers , blog writers , and N.R.A. / I.L.A ….. whom all know better …. continue to refer to the declared — BATF — as if it were real , and by LAW , in good ‘ standing ‘ . BATF is a FRAUD.—– IT is NOT listed in 31 USC, It is a FAKE ………. a ” color of law ” trick. — Examine 31 USC , Chapter 7 , …. tell me where ATF …. comes from …???

FACT: … The BATF was created by unlawful means , without Congress ,See DOCUMENTATION , below. Prove it wrong.

  13. I just don’t understand the entire point of this piece. All I see is the supporting of racist, white only views of every issue out there. More power to you. From the likes of the comments you preaching to the choir.

  14. “I’m a man…I don’t need a gun” is more like “Use me as cover/concealment when the terrorists start shooting”.

It doesn’t do any good to be an unarmed man when the criminals are armed. Your are guaranteed to loose (unless you are like Bruce Lee and also have a lot of luck).

  15. “What question would you ask the candidates Sunday night?”

    That’s easy

“If the Second Amendment is subject to “reasonable restrictions”, is the Thirteenth?”

(May be my last post for some time)

  16. “I’m a man. I don’t need a gun.” That’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

It doesn’t matter how tough you are. One 9mm in the brain will kill you instantly. The best way to prevent that is to shoot the bad guy before he shoots you.

  17. “I’m a man. I don’t need a gun.”

Until your wife is begging for her life while you lie on the sidewalk bleeding because you couldn’t stop somebody from shanking you with an $5 kitchen knife. Good thing you called the police with your last breath because they’ll be there just in time to watch her bleed out as well.
