Not to be outdone by California’s taxpayers, Mayor Mike sends some more pocket change to Johns Hopkins to concoct more anti-gun agitprop masquerading as “public health” data: Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg donates $300M to Johns Hopkins – “Self-made billionaire Michael Bloomberg once toyed with the idea of running for president. But now the former New York City mayor is dropping $300 million on a new public-health initiative at his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, all with a view of impacting public policy.”

Moms Demand Action on state gun control initiative at Cal Anderson Park – “One of the leading anti-gun violence groups in the nation will be holding a rally at Cal Anderson Park September 24th in support of a statewide gun control initiative appearing on the ballot in November. Moms Demand Action will be supporting Initiative 1491 — a measure to create ‘extreme risk protection orders’ which would allow families and law enforcement officials to petition courts to temporarily suspend a person’s access to firearms if the they are deemed to be threat to themselves or others.” Maybe Washington 2A supporters should deem the Moms to be a threat to their gun rights and show up to present the other side on the 24th. Just a thought.

O.T. Genasis Cuts Plea Deal for LAX Gun Bust – “TMZ has learned … the rapper pled no contest to carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, which is a misdemeanor. He was originally charged with a felony, so it could have been much worse. O.T. was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 2 days in jail — but got credit for time served. He also got 3 years probation, and can’t own or possess guns during that time.” Would a non-celebrity have gotten the same deal?

Speaking of special treatment:

Messi brother gets community service for illegal gun possession – “Barcelona and Argentina ace Lionel Messi’s older brother Matias Messi has been ordered to teach football training sessions in his home city of Rosario after being found by police with a gun in his car. Judge Gonzalo Lopez Quintana instructed Matias Messi to conduct four hours of soccer coaching every week for a year at a football club in the Argentine city as part of a probation order.”

Nothing’s much more fun than faking a drive-by: Video: Apparent gun prank has police working on arrest – “An incident called “unbelievable” and “totally unacceptable” by police in Cincinnati has gone viral on social media. A Facebook video shows a young man, possibly a teenager, holding a weapon in the back seat of a car along Ross Avenue near Warsaw Avenue in Price Hill.”

Thanks for nothing: Weeks After Campus Carry Implementation, an Accidental Misfire at Tarleton State – “Less than two months after a Texas law allowing guns into public university buildings went into effect, an accidental discharge has been reported in a Tarleton State University dormitory. No one was hurt in the incident and a university spokesman said Friday there was ‘minimal property damage.'” Fortunately, no one’s Second Amendment rights can be cancelled due to someone else’s carelessness.

Student wounded when officer’s gun discharges – “Officers called to the school to investigate a report that a crime might have been committed were speaking with the girl when she became ‘uncooperative and then combative,’ according to the release. As the officers attempted to control the girl, one officer’s firearm discharged while still in its holster, and the girl was wounded, according to the release.” While in the holster? Why do we get the feeling there’s more to this story than what’s in the MPD press release?

Oh look! Another one of those defensive gun uses that never happensMan arrested after being shot by woman during home invasion, police say – “A man who was shot in the leg Wednesday evening after kicking in the door of a Regency apartment has been arrested, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. A 19-year-old woman told police that she was alone in her apartment on Monument Road about 6 p.m. when her door was forced open. The woman grabbed her gun and fired at the intruder, hitting him once, investigators said.”

      • I’d rather look stupid in football padding than be retarded and/or crippled for life after rugby injuries, but to each his own…

        • Based on the health problems that most retired football players seem to have, that padding doesn’t seem to be doing very much good.

        • It’s actually counterproductive, as it makes people think they’re invulnerable so they don’t protect themselves properly. Or that’s the theory.

        • Now you got me wondering if sports-indiced brain damage might have any connection to UK gun laws / multi-cultural surrender policies.

        • I’m just pointing out the absurdity of calling them wimps when it’s the Americans who have more padding than a Victoria’s Secret store.

      • First – I have respect for all soccer player and rugby players. You have to be in great Cardio shape to play and rugby players have to be tougher than most athletes.

That being said- In college our rugby team was filled with a lot of guys who did not make the football team. They kept using the pads to play rugby line on us. Finally one off season we accepted a challenge to play a game of rugby against them. We barely knew the rules, and in fairness the rugby guy were good athletes. We lost the match. We were told we played a clean game and that we did better than average given our experience. The next day The rugby players could barely move because they were so sore from the hits we cleanly delivered. The football players were fine other than our bruised pride over losing the match. We never got challenged to a second game and we never heard another comment about playing with pads again from the rugby team.

The size, speed, and strength of most college American football players creates forces north of 30 mph car crash every play. Pads are worn to mitigate some of the risks of putting your body through that stress.

        • Yep, exactly. Rugby is a rough sport, but football is downright violent. There’s a good reason for those pads.

  1. “Fortunately, no one’s Second Amendment rights can be cancelled due to someone else’s carelessness.”

Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh man, thanks for that. I needed a laugh at the end of the week.

  2. Accidentally shot while holstered…GLOCK brand Glock? If it wasn’t soooo non-pc TTAG could have a “tard” award for doofuses who think having a fake drive -by is a worthy prank…is this lunacy on fakebook?

    • I’ll just leave this here:

You’ll notice that in the final scene where the SUV is racing away one of the pedestrians has stepped into the street to return fire with a real handgun. Now THAT’S funny, right there.

    • @yet another

Depends on the state. Some states allow 18 year olds to posses a handgun. They may not be able to buy it from a dealer or do an FFL transfer, but they may be able to be given one or buy it privately.

    • Depends on locale. For instance, in Misery, 18 to buy a handgun, 19 to get a CCW for it. It was 21 to buy back in the day, but that didn’t stop me from competing back as an early teen in the late ’70s.

  3. Bloomie donating 300 *million* to Johns Hopkins for public health studies designed to influence public policy.

This is serious not good, people…

    • It’s neither unprecedented nor escalated. Bloomie throws away this sort of money on plenty of anti-gun initiatives. He completely blows it down a rathole in almost all cases. He’s won a few, but he’s lost a whole lot more.

  4. Pastor who won AR-15 rifle raffle won’t be charged

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. — A suburban Portland pastor who won an AR-15 rifle in a raffle and then said he gave it to a gun-owning friend for safekeeping will not be prosecuted for transferring the weapon without conducting a background check, authorities said.

Officials were investigating whether Rev. Jeremy Lucas may have violated a recent state law that makes transferring a gun without a background check illegal, even if the arrangement is between private parties and no money changes hands.

But investigators uncovered no evidence that Lucas, 45, actually transferred the gun and never determined the name of the gun-owning friend, Clackamas County District Attorney John S. Foote said in a letter to the Oregon State Police.

Raise your hands if you didn’t see this coming. When the state wants something to go their way, they can always find someone to help sweep it under the rug.

    • “never determined the name of the gun-owning friend”

That’s some fine investigative work, boys. I guess they didn’t think to ask the pastor who he gave the gun to, huh?

    • Universal background checks in a nutshell, right there.

This is why, in the last few years, I’ve gone from an independent mostly voting for Democrats to an independent who will never again vote for (as Joe R. always says) the “evil lib-prog-comm [globalist](D).” They’re just chock-full of laws like this one and the “extreme risk protection orders.”

Laws that do nothing but give the SJW’s a way to legally lynch anyone they don’t like.

Being a (small-L) libertarian, I don’t like the Republicans either, but they’re the only team in town that can keep the D’s out of office, so…

    • You got it.

The idiot whose negligence triggered the push for Connecticut’s “safe storage” law was a cop. After it was passed, the first two violators were a minister and another cop.

When Massachusetts passed its “safe storage” law (signed by the governor because it was “what police wanted”), one of the first violators was a police officer within the police department building itself — guns were left in unsecured lockers in a PD locker room shared with “disadvantaged utes” from a PD-sponsored HS midnight-basketball-sorta program. A kid took the two guns with him and actually fired one or both in public. Prosecution of the cop? Pshaw, a fable! “Internal police matter,” end of story. But they charged the kid, you betcha.

Stunningly, four years later, PRECISELY THE SAME SITUATION occured in a Massachusetts PD locker room 18 miles away… except that the gun was actually used in a gang shooting. Again, crickets on prosecuting any police personnel.

  5. I used to post “F the evil lib-prog-comm [globalist](D)” and people would respond “how does that fit in here”, but I get to the end of these three-thread posts and it seems even more appropriate.
    “F the evil lib-prog-comm [globalist](D)”.

  6. Bloomberg should put that money to cancer research. Cancer kills over half a million people in the US a year. If these people cared about saving lives that’s where they would be investing. But they don’t care about saving lives only control over people’s lives.
