News flash: the LA Times has discovered the Pink Pistols… Going against the grain after Orlando shooting, LGBT group embraces guns – “Jonathan Fischer is never sure who’s going to be more surprised when he, as he likes to put it, comes out of the gun closet — the gun aficionados who find out he’s gay or the gay friends who find out he likes shooting guns. When the 38-year-old television editor showed up last month to a defensive handgun class near Piru with a Glock 27 pistol on his hip, he wore a T-shirt sporting a rainbow-colored AK-47. His ‘gay-K-47,’ he said.”

The Cult of Guns in America – “’The NRA derives its power not only from its funding,’ Henigan said, ‘but also due to the intensity of its hard-core supporters.’ And the NRA works hard to inculcate those supporters with what Henigan calls ‘the slippery slope’ myth — which holds that any regulation on guns, even the most modest, is a first step toward confiscation of all of them. The NRA’s hold on its grass roots also keeps gunmakers who might be inclined to compromise on gun control in line, Henigan said: ‘They’re terrified of the NRA’s power over their own consumers.’” And may it ever be thus.

Tactical Walls Issue Box – Okay, so you’re right in the middle of a good cry during “The Bridges of Madison County” and some bad guy has the nerve to attempt to break into your house. Rather than dash over to the gun safe in the corner, though, you continue to reach for a tissue…

When everyone has a gun, no one is in control: Brie Larson Breaks Free from ‘Room’ with Guns Blazing in ‘Free Fire’ Trailer – “The trailer for one of Brie Larson’s first films after winning a best-actress Oscar has finally arrived, and it couldn’t be any more different from Room. Free Fire is a gun-glorifying action movie that seems to be about a gun sale gone wrong. Suddenly, everyone’s weapons are drawn, and it turns into a violent showdown, bullets flying through the air with reckless abandon. Everything goes down in a single warehouse; it’s nice to see that Larson has been upgraded from a single, tiny room to a very, very big room.” Thank God for Netflix.

The fight continues in the People’s Republic: Can Madison ban guns from buses? – “Wisconsin gun rights advocates get their chance Friday to persuade the state Supreme Court that Madison can’t ban weapons from its city buses. Thomas Waltz and Wisconsin Carry, Inc. sued the city back in 2014 after it refused to change its rule against guns on its Metro Transit buses. The plaintiffs argue that Wisconsin’s Act 35, the state’s concealed carry law, preempts any local government from imposing stricter regulations on when and where license holders may take their guns.”

PITTSBURGH – September 9, 2016 – Cabot Guns, America’s premiere maker of high-quality handguns, announced today that it is releasing a South Paw S-100 Edition, a fully inverted stainless steel pistol designed for left-handed shooters. The new gun is a complete mirror image of the company’s popular 1911 pistol. It features a left-handed ejection port, left-handed thumb safety, left-handed slide stop and left-handed mag release. Cabot is the world’s only producer of left-handed 1911 style handguns.

A watchdog watching the watchers: Watchdog criticizes ATF gun sale stings – “A watchdog report released Thursday is raising new concerns about the Justice Department’s response to the ‘Operation Fast and Furious’ gun-tracking scandal. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has failed to fix the problems with its gun-tracking operations and should consolidate the number of storefronts where undercover federal agents sell guns to criminals in stings, according to the DOJ inspector general.”

Armed robbers point guns at Buddhist monks while making off with temple’s donation boxes – “Cambodian monks in Tacoma had a harrowing experience last week when two armed robbers put guns to their heads and made off with donation boxes. They say two young men broke into the Khmer Theravadin Buddhist temple just before midnight on Sept. 1 and were making off with the two large donation boxes when the burglary was interrupted by the temple caretaker.” Fortunately, Washington state is making it harder for lawful gun owners to arm themselves all the time, so this kind of thing shouldn’t be a problem much longer.

  1. Why do gun owners worry about a slippery slope attack on gun rights? Because the Marxists have advanced their agenda incrementally for the last 100 years. And, just look where it’s gotten us…on the brink of disaster.

    • The slippery slope is more accurately called “progressivism”. The slippery slope is what they do. They make step-by-step incremental “progress” to achieve their goals. All the while they ridicule their opposition for fearing the slippery slope.

  2. Actually the NRA is a product of it’s members, not the other way around.

As for the lefty 1911, cool. I have no problem with catering to left handed shooters. $4045 for a 1911? WTAF is wrong with 1911 enthusiasts?

    • Put a Cabot 1911 in your hand and work the slide and it becomes very clear why they cost what they do.

Cabot has *serious* metalworking skills. Those have been honed by their aerospace work they do. They seem to be finally refining their gunmaking skills to match their metalworking.

You’ll see a Cabot review in a few weeks here that lays it out…

      • Geoff, 99 for 100, I’m with you. This time I’ll have to disagree – Cabot’s are ridiculously overpriced polished turds, that seldom work as advertised. Let alone work well.

The platform itself is designed to be a slopfest with minute-of-human accuracy at 10 yards. That is how it actually functions. I owned a Gold Cup Mark IV back in the ”70s when the $600-ish it cost was 10 Glenfield 60s, or at least 2 Pythons. I shot it in competition (in ’76, when IPSC started in my back yard) and it was horribly inadequate from a reliability standpoint.

It was a 1911. It often malfunctioned, like every 1911 people try to make into an “accuracy gun”. The 1911 platform works if you like an extremely low capacity gun with marginal accuracy and some reliability. Or one can try to make it accurate, at the expense of reliability. I have never met anyone with a Cabot who praised any part of the gun, but it’s looks. They all mumble it’s an unreliable piece of shit, like an ’80s Jaguar…

        • Making an ultra-precision-machined 1911 strikes me as somewhat akin to trying to make an AK into a 1/4 MOA sniper rifle. You can probably do it, but it’s way more trouble than it’s worth, and the whole effort runs counter to the gun’s original design. There are better platforms to start with if you want to show of your ability to machine metal to incredibly tight tolerances.

But that lefty Cabot can fail-to-eject to the left side of the gun, which is kinda cool, I guess.

      • I don’t know anything about Cabot’s guns. I’ll start there.

My point is this: There’s nothing wrong, IMHO, with a 1911 but they are WAY the fuck overpriced in many (not all) cases.

$4000 for a handgun that doesn’t have some providence or serious custom work is, IMHO, completely insane unless it’s a serious competition gun and you’re good enough to use it. If it’s a serious pro job that’s accurate as hell 99.99% of shooters are not good enough to use it. 95% of people can’t wring every last ounce out of a normal Glock. Now, I will grant, when you get to serious high end competition where those guys and gals really can wring every ounce out of it, that’s acceptable but it’s a whole different kettle of fish.

I had some asshole at the range a few months back bragging about his $3500 custom Wilson Combat CQB Elite 1911 non-fucking-stop. He ends up on the lane next to me and gets outshot, VERY badly I might add and at 3x the distance he’s shooting, so he comes over and starts asking me about what I’m shooting. Gotta be some hot shit $4000 job! No way anything else could compete with the CQB Elite! I mean comon’ brah, it’s a $3500 handgun! To compete you gotta pay more!

No, it’s a $550 Jericho 941 in .40 that I actually know how to fucking use because I’m not some asshole who thinks he can buy “operator” status from Wilson Combat and walk around the range with a shemagh with everyone thinking I’m hot shit when, in reality, I can’t put rounds on paper at 14 yards and throw a pattern 18″ wide at 7 yards because I’m a fucktard with more money than brains.

Look, I’m not some cheap fuck. I’ve got $3500 into my precision AR and another $3000 into my bedside pistol (including silencer and other goodies) with a gun collection that is insanely expensive (it basically requires a safe collection) but I ain’t fucking paying $3000+ for a base handgun unless it can be demonstrated to me that it’s worth it, which it never has been and probably never will be. Most of this shit doesn’t even come with a threaded barrel. WTF is the point in this crap? You want the BG’s last thoughts to be “Well, I’m dying but fuck if I didn’t get shot by a NICE gun”?

Seriously. In this case you’re paying $4045 when for 1/4 that price (or less) you could have got a gun that was just as good at any range you’d realistically use it and had $3000+ left over. That’s a nice ass can, with tax stamp, a nice light laser combo, new sights, tons of extra work like a trigger etc AND a fuck ton of practice ammo for the same price.

As I said, IMHO, this kinda money for a handgun is flat-the-fuck-out retarded.

        • 8/10 good rant would read again. Could have used a little more creativity with the personal insults and a bit more brevity. Excellent use of profanity, personal stories, and logic though.

        • Hey 9, tell it to farago. He pays that much for a gun and then him and taylor throw it on the ground and give it a couple of kicks for good measure. Now that’s retarded.

        • Why can’t Cabot build, call it, a “beginner’s gun”, normal clearances and therefore reliability, but with that astonishing finish. The *outside* of the gun does not prevent it from functioning, and a finish as nice as my Python would make me want one, maybe $2000 worth.

      • I dunno, I actually work in the aerospace field, and if my company or any of our suppliers turned out the level of “quality” that cabot does, we’d immediately lose our contracts and probably be brought up on charges of some sort, or at least a thorough investigation by the DCMA. I’ve seen several examples where they send out test and evaluation guns, which fail to function as firearms right out of the box, and its only after multiple return trips to Cabot that it becomes functional. The margin for error in the aerospace industry is pretty slim/non-existant. When you’re building triggers and guidance systems for nuclear warheads, or inertial navigation control assemblies for manned spaceflight, being at “six-sigma” (ie 3.4 defects per million units) is considered a good place to START. So I have no idea what they transferred over from their “aerospace” business, but it wasn’t their quality control and consistency, thats for sure.

  3. “And the NRA works hard to inculcate those supporters with what Henigan calls ‘the slippery slope’ myth — which holds that any regulation on guns, even the most modest, is a first step toward confiscation of all of them.”

Y’know, when you see it happening before your eyes in other countries and in certain areas of this country, calling it a “myth” is beyond dishonest.

    • Ok I’ll agree that slippery slope arguments are a logical phallusy. But it is still true that all gun regulations are a step closer to confiscation and a ban. Just as easing any regulation of a good or service is a step away from a total ban.

        • The “slippery slope” is NOT a myth. Just ask the former gun owners of Australia and the UK! In both cases the first to go was those semi-automatic rifles. Then it was handguns. Finally, the shotguns. Each time, gun owners were duped into believing the leftist claims that they had no intention of taking guns away from law abiding gun owners. Today, ever more cops are being armed or have more access to firearms with approval from someone higher up the chain of command.

In Australia, criminals still have guns, and they have a growing problem with jihadists. Following the last round of bans, gun crimes fell, however, crimes against persons and property greatly increased. Police suspect this is due to criminals no longer having reason to fear citizens.

In the UK, criminals still have guns, and they have a growing problem with jihadists, and they have decades of experience with Irish terrorists. In a recent law enforcement report, handguns are readily available and used by criminals in robberies, in a nation where handguns are banned. That report pointed out that criminals are using both real firearms as well as very real looking replica guns.

Remember, Hillary agreed that what was done in Australia was an idea she would support.

Look at what is happening in liberal states like California. The politicians have nearly legislated guns as well as gun stores right out of existence.

      • A logical phallusy? A hardon for logic, perhaps?

You probably meant ‘logical fallacy’, but turning a spelling error into a dick joke had to be done…

        🙂

    • I think everyone shold be extremely vigilant against each and every slippery slope argument, in all cases, no matter what. If we allow one slippery slope argument, we will wind up allowing every slippery slope argument. And nobody wants that.

  4. The NRA shifted gears in the 1970s because that’s what the membership demanded.

Also, it’s proven that each new batch of gun laws is more restrictive than the last. NFA, GCA, etc…

Actually case in point, the WaPo candidly regarded the AWB as a “stepping stone” to more restrictions and wholeheartedly endorsed incrementalism. Pols and true anti-gunners know this, as well. They see the long-term game. It’s not paranoia if it’s true.

    • I don’t understand why there are not a dozen different lefty 1911s, as well as every other gun. I look at my Sig P229 and try to figure why the company did not produce a lefty version at the very same time. Now, the model has been reworked several times, and still no lefty. It’s not like it’s 1960, mirror image should be easy today.

  5. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…

  6. Somewhat relevant to the NRA article in todays Daily Digest, in case you missed it- is this (surprisingly for the LA Times) sympathetic and informative article about the Pink Pistols- noting how they joined the NRA as amici curiae in Peruta v SD, in the 9th.

    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-lgbt-guns-pink-pistols-20200809-snap-story.html

“We wish to dispel the misleading and insulting caricature that supporters of Second Amendment rights are either tobacco-chewing, gap-toothed, camouflage-wearing rednecks or militia posers who are morbidly fascinated with firepower,” their amicus brief stated.

  7. And once again no one comments on the abomination that is the identifying letters/words on the back of the ATF agents‘ vests.

In case you missed it, the “abomination” part is the word “POLICE” under the three letters ATF. They are not, I repeat, NOT police.

    • One surplus sale and a few minutes with an iron-on decal kit later …

Nah, their budget isn’t that tight. Sigh.

But given the rate of firearms sales in the US, if they really were a convenience story they’d do a lot for the federal debt…

    • Do they have the authority to arrest you? If so, the term fits. “Police” is a universal term, it’s recognizable in most languages it’s written in, even if the spelling is different. It applies to people who enforce laws. Really that seems to be an odd thing to be upset about after reading this article.

      • Authority to arrest?
Heck, like all the federal cops, except for the Marshals, Border Patrol, and Secret Service (counterfeiting), they don’t have the authority to EXIST.

      • HP,

See FedUp’s response above. Show me where the United States Constitution defines broad police powers that the federal government can use in the states themselves. (Police powers in the states is an entirely different matter from police powers in federal territories like Washington D.C. or the U.S. Virgin Islands.)

Along the same lines, show me the caveat in the Second Amendment that empowers the federal government to define hundreds/thousands of infringements.

        • I’m not defending the ATF, and my reply wasn’t meant to start up a debate about what the Federal Government is doing. Seemed like you were troubled by the semantics of them wearing branding that says “POLICE”. My point was given the huge list of things the ATF is doing that are bad, that was a weird thing to get hung up on.

  8. What the gun controllers call “compromise” is nothing of the sort. Compromise means both sides agree to give up something. But the gun controllers just want gun rights people to give up more and more with nothing in exchange. And the “slippery-slope fallacy” is nothing of the sort. Anyone who studies the history of the gun control movement knows that its ultimate goal is complete, total 100% civilian disarmament. All one need do is look at the major metropolitan areas that ban guns 100% or since Chicago v McDonald, have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into “allowing” gun ownership and only then with great difficulty.

    • Exactly. Henigan and his ilk think California and New Jersey haven’t gone far enough, and in their occasional honest moments they’ll publicly admit that they want us to go down the same road as Australia and England. That’s not a “slippery slope myth” or a logical fallacy, it’s a plan.

  9. “Armed robbers point guns at Buddhist monks”

Wait, what? The monks should have just kung phooeyed the BGs like they do in the movies.

  10. “should consolidate the number of storefronts where undercover federal agents sell guns to criminals in stings…”

They should consolidate down to one storefront, then close it.

    • Why do they sell guns at all? Let the bad guy hold the gun to examine it for 5 seconds, then send him up the river for 5 years, fed has no parole. If that is for *any* reason not possible, then repeal the damn law, selective prosecution is tyranny.

  11. What is all this stuf about the NRA telling its members to buy guns? I’m a millennial, and have only been a member of the NRA for a few years, but in that short period of time, I have never received a letter, email, text, or phone call from the NRA saying ,”Have you bought a gun recently? If not, you should”.

What is it with liberals thinking there is some sort of conspiracy behind every thing they don’t like?

    • I’m at the top end of the “millennial” generation and I’ll tell you this:

When I was younger I wondered what you’re wondering. Then I realized that liberals are fucking crazy and that there is no point in trying to figure out how or why they think what they do. It’s all blind hatred, projection and crazy talk.

Make no mistake. People like Pelosi would GLADLY put you and I in front of machine gun (probably without even a cigarette, global warming ya know) to advance their agenda, all the while decrying “gun violence”.

They’re nuts. Don’t try to figure it out. Don’t try to reason with them. Just accept that they’re crazy and learn to deal with it.

      • Yep. I’ll re-phrase and repeat that last line, as it bears repeating.

Don’t try to figure them out; it’s a waste of time, time better spent fighting their silly/illogical/unicorn-based proposals.

  12. Ok, I just read this post and have to say that cuteandfuzzybunnies is one of the best handles any where. “Hi, I’m cuteandfuzzybunnies and I carry three guns and four knives so go ahead and f**k with me.” 🙂

  13. “Jonathan Fischer is never sure who’s going to be more surprised when he, as he likes to put it, comes out of the gun closet — the gun aficionados who find out he’s gay or the gay friends who find out he likes shooting guns.”

No question. See gun owners tend to be live and let live kinds of people. How does your gayness affect my life? Not? OK, then. Glad to stand in the next lane from you.

Gays, however, tend to be libs, and libs tend to NOT be live and let live. OMG GUNS!!11!ELEVENTY

  14. “When everybody has a gun…”

…There will be an initial period of blood-letting as the stupid is bled from society before thinking individuals settle into the more appropriate ‘an armed society is a polite society’ mentality.

    • Bingo. If EVERY SINGLE thug who breaks into a home while the owners are home, every rapist, every violent criminal of every stripe were met with a hail of accurate gunfire by the intended victim, they’d all be gone. What the hell is so wrong with that?

Then we could start in on the politicians and other self appointed elites to fill the prisons.
