Springfield CrossCannon_2016 small2016 Online Journalism Awards finalists announced – “This year’s awards reflect a deeper consideration of how newsrooms engage their audiences, focusing on the emerging prevalence of new digital tools, distribution channels and content platforms.” ‘Digital tools’ is certainly one way we’d refer to our friends at The Trace, Michael Bloomberg’s bevy of anti-gun agitprop generators. They’ve been nominated for an OJA for general excellence in online journalism in the small site category. A quick scan of the other nominees, (NY Times, Washington Post, Vox, FRONTLINE, BBC, ProPublica, yadda, yadda) reveals the ONA’s “honors” for what they are…a self-congratulatory circle jerk for left-leaning media. The awards will be handed out at a rubber chicken event in Denver next month. How fun will that be?

Little Rock judge to decide future of 94 guns seized after Arkansas doctor convicted in bombing – “Seven years after federal agents showed up on the doorstep of Dr. Randeep Mann’s Pope County home and carted away 94 guns worth over $1 million, the collectors’ items remain locked up in a secret location while the federal government awaits a judge’s directive on what to do with them. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Miller is to decide the matter after hearing arguments in his Little Rock courtroom this week from four competing interests.” Maybe using a grenade against another doctor was Dr. Mann’s first mistake. Or not.

Cops Without Guns Dominate as London Awaits ‘Likely’ Attack – “‘I’ve never, ever felt the need to have a firearm,’ (Inspector James) Beattie said while on patrol last week. ‘Our prime tool for defusing any situation or conflict is always talking to someone. If I deal with any confrontation, I’m not reaching for my belt. I’m talking to them to see if I can disengage the situation.'” First, the UK has beefed-up its armed police but good. Second, good luck with that when ISIS comes calling.

Utah restaurant staff to stop open-carrying guns after move – “A Utah restaurant known for kilt-clad servers who openly carry firearms will have to keep them under wraps starting this week. The staff at Sea Bears Ogden Fish House can only carry concealed weapons now that the eatery has relocated to the city’s historic Union Station.” So…untucked shirts or thigh holsters?

John-Hamilton-Office

Indiana mayors to lobby statehouse for help on gun ordinances – “’I can’t pass a regulation, a law, anything to do in any way with guns ammunition or accessories,’ said (Bloomington Mayor John) Hamilton, ‘and if I do try to do anything, I’m subject to triple attorneys’ fees, penalties, so we’re all prohibited from doing anything.’ About the only thing Hamilton could do was write an OpEd piece for the New York Times titled Pistols at the Pool, Machine Guns on Parade and Nothing We Can Do. Pre-emption…working as intended.

Bossier rifle range (courtesy 710keel.com)

Bossier Sheriff Opens Rifle Range to Public – “Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington is opening up the sheriff’s office rifle range to the public on three weekends in September so hunters can sight in their rifles. The range at 2955 Old Plain Dealing Road will be open September 3, 10 and 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. It features 12 shooting lanes with targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.” Civilians and badged civilians shooting together at a range bought and paid for with tax dollars. More please.

  1. So the people of Indiana won’t let statist c0cksuckers pass gun control? Hmmm, it’s like the people of Indiana don’t want more gun control. But will that stop these pricks? Probably not.

    • Additionally, the people of the State of Indiana send emails to call out the yellow journalists who write these stories (Fox59 disabled and stripped comments). Like this:
      =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
As I read through and watched the video for from http://FOX59.COM/AUTHOR/RUSS-MCQUAID/ regarding the Indiana Mayors, I began to question FOX news’ catch phrase “Fair and Balanced”.

I’m no journalist, but some of the questions I had were:

Why were these preemptive laws put into place?

      Who supported them?

Would one of the people who championed the law like to speak on camera as to why they were put into place?

Did FOX59 have stories of gunman running rampant in the streets during July 4th parades, shooting anyone they saw?

I’d like to think this story wasn’t click-bait, but it was not a fair representation of the law, or We the People who voted those into political positions who supported it.

I would be amazed at this point if anyone from FOX59 is reading this (auto-generated computer responses aside).

      Thank you for your time,

  2. Sure would like to cross the border to live in Hoosierland. What a wonderful state…I’m sure they’ll miss Mike Pence IF he gets elected. The only candidate I fully support…

  3. Wearing a kilt is a lot like vaping. “Oh don’t mind me, I’m just vaping. It’s no big deal, I’m just vaping is all. Don’t pay me any attention, vaping is totally normal.”

It’s not a big deal, but that doesn’t mean you have to make a big deal about how it’s not a big deal.

    • I consider my kilt to be the best asshole detector money can buy. Dudes, and it is always dudes, say something stupid like ‘nice skirt’ and I know instantly they are an asshole.

The flip side…. lots of women, and more than a few men, compliment me so it is a really great way to meet people.

        • He didn’t say he didn’t want assholes making ‘skirt’ comments. He said it was a great way to identify assholes. It drew you out, didn’t it.

      • been wearing kilts for years. I agree with Chip- it’s great for identifying aholes. Usually I can hear the witty comment about “skirt” (aren’t you a clever boy) and I just correct them with “Kilt”, look them in the eye and give them my best pity smirk. By far my favorite is “I would never wear a kilt” to which I reply “I understand. it does take a very secure man to wear one.”

      • Love my kilt too, McIntosh hunt. I’ve donned it on a few fancier occasions and the couple of times I’ve been to Scotland. It also went over really well at some of the HC/Oi! venues back in the hell-raisin’ days.

Never really thought about how to CC in it. Depending on shirt tail length, if you wore it untucked, it kind of would look like a skirt b/c the shirt would cover too much of it. Skirt comments are about as cliche as the little dick comments regarding guns. I guess it’s OK to make fun of kilts because it’s usually white guys wearing it, so need to worry about being culturally insensitive, like if you wanted to make fun of them African women for wearing those make-me-a-giraffe neck stretching rings.

        • I’ve spotted a member of my own tribe out in the wild. I’ve been into Hardcore/Oi! since around 1986. I went to see the Cro-Mags and some local Texas Oi! band a couple weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of other old timers that crept out to re-live a glimpse of our glory days.

    • Hey, don’t knock vaping (or kilts, for that matter, they look comfortable). I was a 30-year, two-pack-a-day smoker, picked up a vape about a year ago and haven’t touched a cigarette since. I’m sure the vape isn’t good for me either, but i do find it gets easier and easier to throw two 40-pound bags of corn over my shoulders and climb the steep hill to my feeders. I couldn’t care less who sees me or what people think about it, vaping works for me.

      • I’m pro vaping, since a friend of mine was on the path to killing himself with cigarettes before he switched.

I just think it’s funny when a guy in the bar vapes in a theatrical way just so people will notice him.

        • Yeah, definitely seen that. Usually puffing some fruity flavor, like green apple cinnamon pomegranate or something of that nature. I’m just about giving up the cigs, and i’m slowly lowering the nicotine levels so i can give up the vape, too. I told the guy at the vape store, if they can come up with a “doe in heat” smell, they’ve got a winner for the camo crowd.

  4. “…I’ve never, ever felt the need to have a firearm,’ (Inspector James) Beattie said”

That’s nice dear, I’m happy for you. What does your opinion have to do with anything else in the world? How does your opinion, as a subject of the Queen, mean anything to me, a free man, outside of conversational interest?

    • “…I’ve never, ever felt the need to have a firearm,’ (Inspector James) Beattie said”

That’s awfully convenient, then, since your betters haven’t deemed you deserving of the privilege of arming yourself.

  5. I’m not familiar with the doctor case, but “94 guns worth over $1 million” averages to a bit over $10,600 per gun. What did this guy collect?

Re the rifle range, great. Is it a called range, with a range officer and everything? Nothing against those, but I’ve gotten used to the “by joint agreement and acclaim” approach we use at the local club for when to go hot, when to check targets, etc.

Re the journalism awards, I’ll be mentally filing my opinion of that right next to my opinion of the Golden Globes, Emmies, and Oscars. Oh, and since about 8-9 years back, the Nobel peace prize committee.

    • I would imagine that, regardless of how that range is normally managed, when it’s opened to the public like that it will be pretty closely monitored. The last thing that sheriff wants, when he’s just trying to do a nice thing for hunters and get some positive PR, is for some jackwagon with no brains to cause a casualty.

And like you, I’m very curious to know what guns that doctor had in his collection, if they’re worth that much money.

  6. There’s something a Scot wears with a kilt called a “sporran.” That’s where one should be carrying concealed.

As for backup: Look up “sgian achlais.”

    • If I were to wear a kilt (I’m not Scottish) my vote would be a thigh holster. Every person I’ve seen wearing a kily has a tucked shirt and cinched belt. I doubt they would change that to carry IWB.

If the rule is that the weapon must be concealed, what is the rule on printing? A nice pistol in a thigh holster, even if it printed obviously, should satisfy all concerns.

      • A thigh holster will chafe your thigh though, unless you are going for the “Japanese schoolgirl look” with spats (unpadded bike shorts) under your kilt. I would suggest making shoulder holsters and waistcoats part of the uniform.

    • If I feel the need to carry while wearing one of my three kilts (MacBeth, MacKinnon, and Leatherneck tartans) I purchased a sporran specifically made for CCW. There is a snap pouch in the back of it which fits a small 9mm quite nicely

  7. ‘Little Rock judge to decide future of 94 guns seized after Arkansas doctor convicted in bombing’

‘Trent Pierce, the physician who was permanently injured in the Feb. 4, 2009, grenade explosion in the driveway of his West Memphis home, also wants the guns to be sold. But he wants all the proceeds to be applied to the $122.5 million judgment that a Crittenden County jury ordered Mann to pay Pierce and his wife, Melissa, in March 2015 in compensatory and punitive damages as a result of the explosion.’

How is this a controversy? If this guy had a Lamborghini in his garage would there be any debate about what to do with that property?

  8. Good luck to those British cops walking the beat when (not if) a terror attack happens there. Trying to talk down a terrorist flinging 7.62×39 rounds at you is quite a feat. If that fails, I’m sure harsh language will penetrate class II body armor.

Sarcasm aside, I hate that when (again, not if) Britain suffers a Paris-style attack we’ll probably see another video of a completely unarmed cop get executed on the pavement like in the Charlie Hebdo attack. It sucked seeing that in Dallas, but at least that cop went down fighting.

  9. “Indiana mayors to lobby statehouse for help on gun ordinances – “’I can’t pass a regulation, a law, anything to do in any way with guns ammunition or accessories,’ said (Bloomington Mayor John) Hamilton, ‘and if I do try to do anything, I’m subject to triple attorneys’ fees, penalties, so we’re all prohibited from doing anything.’ About the only thing Hamilton could do was write an OpEd piece for the New York Times titled Pistols at the Pool, Machine Guns on Parade and Nothing We Can Do. Pre-emption…working as intended.”

Where’s a sh_tty ambulance chasing attorney when you need one??? When does the f head mayor’s actions become pre-emption? Only when they finally pre-empt. There’s a TTAG post arkund here somewhere about some 21′ safety rule…

    • State’s exercise of pre-emption abdicated if mayor allowed to protest. That’s a citizen’s issue, mayor gets to follow the law or fit it in his a_ _.

  10. The British have become rather tedious in their liberal superiority. I for one am tired of their smug, self-righteous ‘We don’t need firearms.’ bullcrap. You dipsticks also have an ocean between you and the unwashed hordes of ‘undocumented immigrants’ who are presently trying to turn the US I to a banana republic. But your demographic time bomb is growing with every refugee you take in and every pound sterling you hand out to tomorrow’s under-employed urban youth. The lot of you will be begging for guns when the ‘youts’ are stabbing you up in old blighty over some imagined grievance. I hear you already have a London chapter of Black Lives Matter.

    • It’s frustrating for me to see what has happened to the UK, and how quickly a culture can be twisted up and reshaped by “opinion leaders”. I’ve been reading some books by WW Greener, and they are more than just historical documents. His examination of the use and maintenance of shotguns is nearly as relevant today as it was in 1898 when it was written. Looking at the prices he quotes at the end of one text, you can see that the middle class could easily afford a good quality double shotgun, and even a working man could get a rugged single (like those made on the Martini action). And yet even with the limited restrictions on ownership, and regulations on safe storage, we don’t see blood running in the market towns at the turn of the 20th century.

It’s an important cautionary tale- the UK had a culture of safe and responsible gun ownership that didn’t require the heavy boot of the law on ordinary people’s necks. I suppose certain people in charge decided they didn’t much like that. And now we can see in many “free” western nations a ridiculous attitude towards guns that has nothing to do with the guns, but more to do with following what some big man says.

  11. So Bloomie’s distantly funded, astroturf, sock-puppet organziations, continue attempting to inflict his preferences on people and places he otherwise has nothing to do with, on the sly if he can’t get his way straight up.

And the “up with people” people of the “No guns for you!” movement are fine with it. That seems a tad inconsistent.

That is, until you realize that all of this is a feature, not a bug. In the end, “No guns for you!” deep down believe that ignorant, distant proles need to have better choices inflicted on them by their betters, who by definition live in cities, amass wealth manipulating the financial system, and may have purchased tenure in “public service”, meaning “public administration and rake-off” along the way. These are all good things.

It’s not enough for them to have you (us) leave them alone to go to sweet oblivion in their own way. They have to take us their way too.

It’s like they’ve never advanced past the 2-year-old’s outrage at realizing there’s a world outside their tiny selves, one not bound to their whims and preferences.

Maybe we could get someone to break this down for us, say, in Psychology Today.
