There’s news from Politico that NBC had contacted the Washington D.C. police department prior to Sunday’s show to inquire about the legality of using a standard capacity magazine on the show as a prop. It appears that NBC was warned NOT to use the magazine (since it was a violation of D.C. gun law) but they went ahead and did it anyway. From Politico:

NBC was told by the Washington, D.C., police that it was “not permissible” to show a high-capacity gun magazine on air before Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” according to a statement Wednesday from the cops.

“NBC contacted [the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment,” Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman, said in an email. “NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated.”

So they knew ahead of time that possession of the magazine was illegal, but they went ahead and did it anyway. Ain’t that just the height of hubris, to assume that the 4th estate is above the law?

  1. I don’t know why they didn’t have a reporter in a different jurisdiction show the magazine, then cut to the anchors. The technology exists, and there’s no excuse for doing it in a manner that violates the law.

    • “…there’s no excuse for doing it in a manner that violates the law.”

Ha! Ha! Sure there is, silly! They’re *better* than you!

You’re just a dumb, violent, sub-human waste of redneck-humanity, while They’re high-minded, well-intentioned, thinkers, making the world a better place: One regulation at a time.

Oops! Almost time to pay your taxes, Mr. Schlubb. Better get back to work!

    • It is obvious the left will do what ever they want anytime they want. If you think they broke a law, so what. THEY are in control of the law, the media, politicians, teachers etc. OBEY them or you will regret it.

  2. If they can get away with espionage and providing aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States, why would they care about a municipality’s laws?

  3. They knew it was illegal and did it anyway in order to make the point that we need more of the same sort of laws to keep people from breaking them… and this makes sense to them?

  4. prosecute! knowingly violating the “law” is unacceptable, even if the “law” itself is unacceptable. Time to prove to them that just because they’re against the object, doesn’t mean they’re above being prosecuted for possesion of said object.

    stupid laws….

  5. I see “Suspended Sentence”, with the record of arrest, if he is arrested, expunged eventually as the most sever punishment he will get. He’s a mouth piece for the suppressors (Not the can variety) . But you have to hand it to them, there isn’t a decent gun to be had in this country. Unless you want to fork over 2 Gs for a base Colt 6290.

  6. “I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution.” – Pres. Ulysses S. Grant, Inaugural Address

I wanna see the D.C. PD stick it to these idiot so hard that they weep for mercy, the whole station should be subject to punishment for their blatant disregard of the law.

  7. I suspect some young intern or producer will get thrown under the bus and admit they supplied the mag to Gregory and didn’t tell him it was illegal.

  8. Leftist whining about this is getting funny.

He advocated for a ban against something while violating a ban against it. He’s either for the ban or he’s not. Its that simple.

On top of that its been revealed he sends his kids to a school with its own 11 armed guards on top of secret service agents because Obama sends his kids there too.

  9. I suspect some young intern or producer will get thrown under the bus and admit they supplied the magazine to Gregory and didn’t tell him it was illegal.

      • Except that I’ve always been told that ignorance is no excuse under the law. And NBC contacted the PD and new it was illegal. More than one person was involved in a wilfull violation of the law. Doesn’t that make it a conspiracy to commit a felony?

        • actually, I hope it was someone from their law department. . . . let someone’s ticket to practice get threatened and watch them sing . . . . .

    • Part of me doesn’t want him to be punished, because that’s just a stupid law, nobody should be punished for that. However, during that “interview” he was pushing his anti-gun agenda very hard, so let him taste his own medicine now.

  10. Someone really needs to investigate DiFi and her appearances with “assault rifles” because Im willing to bet that shes broken some laws too. Another person commented that thoes were in government buildings not subject to local law. Im pretty sure civillians can not carry weapons in a government building.

Granted I am against gun control, even restricting guns from the people who want the bans BUT the law applies to all or none.

They wont be prosecuted. Fined maybe but it will be pocket change to them. I strongly feel if we push it enough that they be investigated like this, they will at least quiet down. Afterall, it is a major inconvinence to be made a crimminal as a law abiding citizen.

    • I think that her cynicism ought to be exposed.
How long has she been in office?
How many times in that period has she introduced only AWBs as a response to a shooting?
In between shootings, how many times did she put forward a proposal other than an AWB that would more precisely target likely killers?

      Hmmmm…..

It’s about stopping gun ownership and not stopping killings with her.

      • Completley agree with you on that.

I think she could be legally harassed out of office if people start investigating her carrying of “assault weapons.”

        “Early” retirement or prison?

  11. Shouldn’t he have burst into flames after touching that evil, evil magazine. The video clearly shows he was possession of the “illegal” mag. Even if he didn’t know it was illegal, that is irrelevant- ignorance of the law is no excuse. I have no sympathy for this jackass, because if one of us “commoners” did it, we’d already be in jail getting corn-holed.

  12. This is nuts! Why haven’t they shown up and arrested him. I mean that seriously. They willfully violated the law. I mean that is worse than simply claiming ignorance. It also shows that gun laws are not being enforced, so why make new ones.

  13. Who provided Gregory with the mags? Who transported them into DC? On twitter Fox ‘s Greta van Susteren is saying its silly to investigate DG. All these beltway crowd wont let anything happen to Gregory regardless of supposed affiliation.

  14. As all good statists say, “the law’s the law”. I think Mr Gregory needs to go to jail. Yes it is just a piece of metal and plastic. No, it’s not morally right to throw someone in a cage or fine them for it, but these people need a taste of their own medicine. It’s only proper.

  15. The hypocrisy of the media really bugs me.
If they were doing a segment on the drug war, he wouldn’t have whipped an eight-ball out of his pocket would he? How about a segment on under-age prostitution?

The constitutionally protected status of the free press does not give them privilege to break laws that all other citizens would be arrested for.

I really hope a prosecutor in DC has the cajones to enforce their laws – as silly as they are.

  16. At Worst It will be a corporate fine of $1000, lunch money to these guys. They’ll pay the fine increase their ad rates and move on towards live broadcast pediophila

  17. To quote Nelson on The Simpsons: “Haaaaha”. I don’t think anything will happen to this guy but the fact that they are investigating it is funny.
It also helps to prove our point: Gun control doesn’t work because some idiot won’t pay attention to the laws and just because someone has a “high capacity magazine” doesn’t me that people are going to die. I know this wasn’t your intent DG, but thanks for the assist.

    • The media worldwide is exempt from the rules we have to play by. Jimmy Savile and others at BBC – pedophiles. Piers Morgan – wiretapping and hacking. David Gregory – gun laws. NBC – multiple false and malicious reports. Etc etc

  18. I would bet he gets off on a technicality along the lines of this little gem this:
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/guns/2012/dec/18/miller-dc-lightens-gun-penalties/

“The District of Columbia’s city council voted unanimously on Tuesday to decriminalize inadvertently violating the city’s unique gun laws…. The new law gives the prosecutor the option of using administrative disposition for unregistered firearm or unregistered ammunition offenses. A violator would be then be given a fine (to be determined by the court) but no criminal record. This only applies to people who aren’t charged with another crime during the same event”

    • It’s only TMZ, but…..

‘Meet the Press’ Got Green Light For Magazine Demo

      http://www.tmz.com/2012/12/26/meet-the-press-david-gregory-dc-police-atf-gun-magazine/

“An official from the D.C. police told a member of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that David Gregory COULD display a high capacity magazine on “Meet the Press” Sunday … TMZ has learned.

Well-placed law enforcement sources tell TMZ … a staffer from “Meet the Press” called ATF before the show aired to inquire about the legality of David holding the empty magazine during a segment on gun control. We’re told the ATF person contacted the D.C. police to find out if the District of Columbia — the place where the show is broadcast — had a law prohibiting such a display.

Our sources say the D.C. police official informed ATF David could legally show the magazine, provided it was empty. An ATF official then called the staffer from “Meet the Press” to inform them they could use the magazine.

D.C. police released a statement today, saying “NBC contacted the Metropolitan Police Dept. inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for this segment. NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and the request was denied.”

It appears “Meet the Press” may have gotten 2 different answers from law enforcement.

David is currently being investigated for displaying the magazine.”

      • What is there to investigate? He is on video clearly shown holding the standard capacity magazine. And it is clearly a standard capacity mag, and not the reduced capacity mags that the law allows. He was in Washington D.C., right? the magazine was in Washington D.C., right? I say “book ’em Dano!”
