Problem in NorthEast states is that much of the Brady/DiFi agenda has already been implemented. So since they must “do something”, only the most draconian options are left.
It is not about freedom it is Protecting our Children. The big reason you don’t want Teachers having that tool is those like you have demonized anyone who has a firearm on their hip. If the Teachers all start carrying the one tool that can protect our children you will not be able to demonize anyone with a firearm anymore. You don’t give a Darn about the CHILDREN! New Hampshire has spectacular (lack of) gun laws, a mirror of their decent and independent denizens. Connecticut was simply following New York (since the rich C’s mostly work there) who’d tried out a blind arbitrator of left-wing factional disputes (over ghost-jobs distribution, for example), and thought it worked rather well. Blind, dyslexic, it’s a bit the same. None of it affects Greenwich much, though, because their only issue is taxes, and they have answers for that, Grand Cayman and Carried Interest. Geez, Gov. Malloy, no, freedom is not a handgun on the hip of every teacher. Freedom is not knowing who, and how many teachers and school custodians are armed. I believe if teachers and other school staff had the legal right to have a handgun in school that would give the bad guys something to consider before planning their next shoot out. In other words, they might get shot before they accomplish whatever perverted mission they set out to accomplish.

My wife’s a teacher, 3rd Grade. Sooooo the Christmas party this year was a subdued. Guess what the topic of conversation was on Dec 21st (day of the party)? Not trying to antangonize or inflame open wounds, I tried to interject a little food for thought, concealed carry for teachers, I was met with almost universal shock. Almost I say because out of the two dozen or so teachers I talked to, exactly two said they loved the idea and asked how they could get certified (I am a LEO so I guess they thought I could point them in the right direction). You can guess what my answer was.
Point being, most teachers will not want this, my wife included (she tolerates my gun habit only because I say I could pick up another hobby like, gambling or going to strip clubs instead). But not all teachers need to carry, just one or two and that is the threat that any future gunman has to account for. He doesn’t know which one or even how many are carrying. Just to know that that school has armed teachers, ready to defend it.

I’m happy with the one armed security officer (military veteran) we just hired at my kid’s private parochial school. Us parents aren’t asking our teachers to carry. Get a real operator. I’m a parent and I want my daughter safe. When I found out that the SWAT team was at her school after the Sandy Hook shooting, I was happy. Funny how a lot of people with guns at the school made me able to work while the thought of no one having a gun made me nervous. Then again what do I know, I just studied criminology in college.

State of the start?
Trenton, Newark, and Camden NJ – they have many things in common. Unfortunately poverty and crime are two of those things. Due to the realities of life in their communities, these cities ALREADY HAVE armed police in their schools. As far as I can tell, the only people opposed to their presence are the drug dealers and the gang-bangers.
The problem here is not pro-gun VS anti-gun. The problem is local control VS State and Federal control over security policies that need to be dictated by the unique circumstances in each community.
Armed security in schools is a policy decision best left to local communities, schools and governments. The best thing the State and Federal government can do on this topic is get out of the way.
So basically he’s ok with unarmed teachers and kids being gunned down with no recourse but to wait 20 minutes for the police to arrive all the while the law of the land prevents all potentially nearby CCW good guys from helping out with threats of endless litigation.
I’m so happy our laws make sense serve the greater good…

The News Times reports that Superintendent Janet Robinson says children have not ventured outside school for recess because of anxiety.
The Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 children and six educators were fatally shot by a gunman on Dec. 14, remains closed. Students and staff are using a school in neighboring Monroe.
Parent Amy Roman has asked the Police Commission and Board of Education to continue to provide two police officers at each of the district’s six schools. Newtown’s Police Department is supplemented by officers from other departments.
School officials say they’ve received nearly 300 emails, many of them voicing concern about long-term security and a police presence.

In viewing the recent address you made to the residents of our State, I felt I must take the time to comment.
You state that “Freedom is not a gun on the hip of every teacher”. Freedom IS, however, the Right for me to do so, if I choose. By enacting further restrictions on my Rights ensured by our Constitution, you help no one.
I will tell you that I appreciate the difficult times you and your staff faced during recent events. The compassion you showed to those who lost loved ones was admirable. I will also say, however, that I find it hypocritical that at no time during any of your travels were you or your staff without a strong and visible presence of security. These are people that I respect, and know personally, but as a typical Citizen of Connecticut do not enjoy the protection of. Were my three children, or my wife, or my neighbors afforded such a barrier of security, I would not feel threatened by the evils that face us by a small segment of our society. That, however, is not the case.
Our State currently has some of the strongest laws concerning firearms in the Country. This, sadly, did nothing to protect those who died. You, sir, are wise enough to realize that criminals, by definition, are lawless. They pay no mind to rules of law, to areas of safety, nor to limitation placed by any well intentioned but ineffectual form of legislation. Ironically, the only ones who do heed these laws are those individuals now who DO NOT place our innocents at risk. Enacting superficial laws parsing the Rights of the many helps no one.
If your true intention is to do your best to protect the Citizens of our State, then I stand with you. Do so by ensuring that those individuals that need help receive it. Insist that those that are a grave risk are segregated. Ensure that those that choose to defy our current laws are prosecuted to the fullest extent. Admit that a presence of authority at our schools is a positive action. We as a State have spent so much in areas that affect so many less important issues; I cannot fathom this not becoming a priority.
What you must resist is the temptation to castigate those and restrict the liberties of the portion of our population that understand our responsibilities – and Rights – as gun owners. Do not attempt to assuage the fears of society by limiting their afforded freedoms and Rights. We as a people are better than that. My hope is that you, as a leader, are so as well.
