Professor Mark Bird Shot Himself Trump Protest

Last week, a deranged sociology professor at the College of Central Nevada shot himself in the arm in a campus bathroom because, he said, he wanted to protest the existence of the Trump administration. He was charged with a variety of felonies and has since been banned from the campus.

But according to an apology letter he wrote that was obtained by Blue Lives Matter, 69-year-old Mark Bird was motivated by more than just the deplorable 45th president. Bird was also upset by a variety of societal ills including, naturally, civilian ownership of AR-15 rifles.

I sincerely apologize for my behavior today. I was motivated by multiple reasons. A major reason is, derivative of the following October 20, 2017 CBS news story, the Earth had roughly 100 million malnutrition and pollution deaths in the past decade — and the Earth is on a course for at least another 100 million such deaths in the next decade. One hundred million deaths are more than all the military and civilian deaths of [World War II].

A less significant motivation relates to the October 1, 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting from the Mandalay Hotel that killed 58 people. Since this incident, there has been no national legislation banning bump stocks, banning civilian ownership of AR-15 type assault weapons, and the passage of universal gun background checks legislation. Apparently it is about as easy to buy an AR-15 as a 2-shot derringer.

I have sent a longer essay on my motivations to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and others.

Bird mentioned the Derringer in his apology because that’s the gun he used to blow the hole in his arm.

He told police that he had brought the gun to the college to shoot himself because he was unsure of how much blood he would lose, and he knew he would get medical assistance in the campus building. He said the College of Southern Nevada police “would not allow him to die.”

Bird told Officer Summerlin that he had purchased the gun to shoot himself about two months earlier, and that he only bought two rounds of ammunition because he only needed to fire the gun once.

There’s no word as to whether the professor will have to undergo a court-mandated psychiatric evaluation, but that might be a really good idea.

    • “How do you buy 2 rounds of ammo?”

      Really.

Be careful, though – I bet the Leftists would *love* to require an 8-dollar background check on every round of ammo sold…

      • That was my first thought as well. Maybe he bought it used but either way if a guy asked to buy a gun and 2 rds of ammo I wouldn’t think many people wouldn’t have alarm balls go off.

      • I’ve seen it once, back in the 90s. They had gotten a load of surplus .50 BMG and were selling it for $1 a round, no minimum.

I bought one as a curiosity. Should probably take the powder and primer out, it’s not exactly safe to use as a paperweight, and I’m not likely to get anything chambered for it anytime soon.

Should have stocked up, 400-500% appreciation over ~20 years isn’t a bad return.

        • The S&P index is up about 300%. But there would have been 80 quarters of dividends. And that is a lot of money.

    • There is an LGS here that sells loose ammo by weight for popular rifle and pistol rounds.

Kinda like how some stores sell nuts or candy; grab a bag and use the provided scoop to fill the bag(s) as you like, price is based on the final weight.

I’m not sure how they would price two bullets. If you got them st the same time as the gun they might just give you the two bullets rather than bother figuring out a price.

      • In my youth a lot of the country stores would sell loose rounds. Us kids bought a lot of rounds for our .22s and .410s 3-5 at a time.

Then the .gov got involved and made everything so much better. Do I really need the sarcasm thingy here?

      • Around here, I’m pretty sure that someone who wanted to buy a firearm and only two rounds would be refused and kicked out of the shop.

Someone who only wants two bullets has something very specific in mind.

  1. “…the Earth had roughly 100 million malnutrition and pollution deaths in the past decade — and the Earth is on a course for at least another 100 million such deaths in the next decade. One hundred million deaths are more than all the military and civilian deaths of [World War II].”

An environmentalist nut-job. This is my surprised face…

    • “100 million malnutrition deaths”

100 million is a rounding error to Venezuela and all the dictatorships in Africa and the Middle East.

      • World population needs to decrease 1-2 billion, at least, so I’m not real worried about this nutcake, even if he is right. And what in the world does the number of deaths in WWII have to do with anything? How many deaths can be attributed to the actual policies of leftists in the past 100 years, never even mind their violent methods? Starvation, plague, suicides, cannibalism?

        • I’d go farther than that. (My wife and I have by not having children. In 20 years at most, we’ll be gone, too.) The only good news is that, as education levels increase, people figure out for themselves that fewer children means a better life. Then, birth rates begin to drop.

    • A much, MUCH more relevant question: how many impoverished children was this nutty professor sponsoring? There are many charities that will provide basic food, clean water, and clothing — and even some education and healthcare — for around $30 per month per child.

Unless this nutty professor was voluntarily and sacrificially feeding several impoverished children, he has no righteous authority whatsoever to advocate that government take our money to feed such children.

  2. … He only bought two rounds of ammunition because he only needed to fire the gun once.

I know it’s only one tiny piece of half-digested hay in a massive pile of bullshit, but where did this nutbag go that sells ammunition by the round?

    • He’s a liberal if he would have promised to shoot himself between the ears I would have given him the two rounds free.

      • It would have had less of an effect. At most some deflation from rapid decompression.

The real question is how to make this a YouTube challenge

    • I’m surprised that he didn’t break his wrist from the massive recoil of that .22 rd, but I’m sure he was as tuff & brave as a butterfly.

  3. That was NOT an apology. He simply stated why he did something totally insane. Hard to deny the existance of Trump Derangement Syndrome when you see this.

  4. “He told police that he had brought the gun to the college to shoot himself because he was unsure of how much blood he would lose, and he knew he would get medical assistance in the campus building. He said the College of Southern Nevada police “would not allow him to die.””

This whiny bitch didn’t have the guts to kill himself for the ’cause’, a true “Snowflake” and POS.

    • My thoughts exactly. He could have reduced the overpopulation/pollution problem by one instantly, but instead he chose to make life worse for everyone around him. This guy is a waste of space.

      • Yeah, it’s funny how these people want someone else to implement their loony ideas. He rails about “pollution”. Well, go live in a mud hut somewhere without electricity or water. Be the change you want to see in the world.

      • Because he’s a liberal if he would have shot himself between the eyes. He would have raised the IQ points of the population of this country by at least 5 points.

  5. Note to nut job – In many states it’s actually easier to buy an AR-15 (rifle) than it is a 2-shot derringer (pistol.) How’s that sit with you?

    • I can buy an ar15 across state lines but a derringer has to go through an FFL and be shipped in. Because it’s a sneaky handgun

  6. He sounds like a deranged mental case to me. No doubt he is. I have included a
link below courtesy of JPFO, Inc. at http://www.jpfo.org. This socialist professor no doubt
would go Bolshevik ballistic if the The John Birch Society in Appleton, Wisconsin
was even once mentioned! The JBS, like JPFO, Inc. (both are non-NRA affiliated)
deserve the moral high ground on the Second Amendment issue, private gun
ownership, and considerably more which remains censored via or government
controlled socialist public schools, colleges, universities, and academia. Don’t
get me wrong about the NRA. They collectively are a sound sane sensible and
credible institution. The NRA is to be commended for teaching and promoting
gun safety and instruction, hunter safety education, and even to an extent
women’s safety and awareness. The NRA is worthy of our support. But lets not
ignore The John Birch Society, JPFO, Inc., Gun Owners of America (www.gunowners.org), and even the Constitution Party of Oregon for example (www.constitutionpartyoregon.net) JPFO, Inc. link is posted below. They are
our Allies in the fight for freedom, human dignity, civil rights, and the Second
Amendment. JPFO’s link is posted below.

  7. He bought two rounds because he was only going to need one? Obviously not a math professor. Nor even able to pass first grade. Just how much stupid does it take to think that one plus one equals one?

  8. Ah, the return of a common theme in the gun control movement: “I’m a complete nutjob, and my policy positions should be adopted.”

  9. College professor, supposedly intelligent, logical, mentally stable teaching our kids the higher levels of education. Well, so much for that theory! I say give him a full magazine and have him practice on his head till he gets it right!

  10. Since he shot himself in the arm to protest the Trump administration then maybe he should shoot himself in the head to protest A R 15’s.

  11. This idiot does not even know what a AR-15 is. He hears Automatic Rifle-15. Blow a hole as big as a elephant in a wall. No most AR-15 is about size of a .22 bullet. A 222 caliber. A bullet less than a 1/4 inch. Just too bad he did not put it between eyes or in his ear. May have done some good. One less idiot!

  12. Hey pig Manure for brains your political ideology is what causes the 100M malnutrition/ pollution deaths, coupled with civilian disarmament and not the least Murdering political opponents.
Long live the “Khmer Rouge” eh’ comrade Bird?

  13. If he was a true believer he would have shot himself with an AR instead of s wimpy darrenger.
Apparently he was not a man of true convictions

    • “If he was a true believer he would have shot himself with an AR instead of a wimpy derringer Apparently, he was not a man of true convictions” All that would have had is more velocity for the same caliber bullet. If would have been a true believer he would have shot himself with a 1911 45 caliber pistol or an M14-A now that a true believer.

      • How about if he would have shot himself in the head? Now that would have got my attention. He even said he did it where he did because he wasn’t man enough to die for his cause. He’s a fucking wimp, a freedom fighter as long as it doesn’t get too messy. If and when the SHTF he’ll be the first one whining for help from the very people he despises so much, the Police and the legally armed.

  14. “Apparently it is about as easy to buy an AR-15 as a 2-shot derringer.”

Ironically, in Illinois it is EASIER to buy an AR-15 than a derringer. Handguns here require a 3 day waiting period, compared to only 1 day for long guns (gun shops don’t complain that you have to walk past their inventory a second time to pick up your purchase).

Of course the forces of evil in the Illinois legislature are trying to make it 3 days for all firearms. I’m sure that will save lives.

    • Pretty sure thats one of the bills that Rauner signed last session. Get ready for a landslide of shit when ol JBP gets the governorship and King Mike pulls his strings.

  15. The gun was most likely bought off the street. Probably from some Antifa soyboy. Dealing with these Darwin mistakes is like playing Russian roulete with a glock. As for starving masses— they have been with us since Lucy. My whole life I have heard about developing/3d world and starvation. So what? Look at South Africa or Rhodesia. As for Asia a combination of too many people and bad government. Again; so what? No more US Aid to any and all.

  16. soaked with petrol burning in the middle of the street a better way to protest, plus you could feed some hungry kids

  17. He should have done it right and the put the thing in his mouth and blew is brains on the wall. It would almost be like that scene in Full Metal Jacket.

Wow, shoot himself in the arm. What a drama queen!

  18. This is the type of person charged with ‘educating’ our children. It appears that college campuses have become insane asylums.

    • Joefoam, he’s not educating anyone, he’s indoctrinating the young people. Preparing them for a future of socialism and mob rule like Venezuela or Cuba.

  19. Oh yeah, he’s a brave man. I think all the other liberals should follow his example. Only next time point the gun into their mouths. A much more effective example of protest don’t you think?

  20. And this guy was teaching adult education at a College, he should of out that bullet in his head instead of his arm, it would have made more sense and we would have been better served.
