The anti-gun movement (which includes members of the House and Senate, as well as the Governor) is currently attempting to enact “safety” laws that would make Delaware one of the most gun-draconian states in the region. This package has six parts . . .
1. Assault weapons ban- Unwritten as of 3/25
2. Hi cap mag ban – “This bill would prohibit the manufacture, sale, purchase, transfer or delivery of large-capacity magazines, which are defined as ammunition feeding devices with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.”
3. Gun-free school zones – No link as of 3/25. This law would criminalize the possession of a firearm within a school zone.
4. Ban on private sales and mandatory record keeping of all firearm transactions – “This bill would require that a criminal history background check be performed in connection with the sale or transfer of all firearms… Dealers would be required to maintain records of such background checks in accordance with state and federal law”
5. Mandatory reporting of a lost or stolen firearm within 48 hours – “This bill would require owners of lost or stolen handguns to report such loss or theft within 48 hours of discovery.”
6. Municipalities would have ultimate jurisdiction when it comes to firearms possession – A law that would end state pre-emption, creating the possibility of city ordinances restricting firearms ownership.
7. Assault weapons ban – prohibits the manufacture, production, possession, delivery, sale or purchase of ‘assault weapons.’
I know I represent a small state, but any coverage you could give that would help fight these laws would be greatly appreciated. And, by the way, we are very very VERY sorry about Joe Biden…… (I changed my mind. You can leave that in.)

The bill allowing cities to precede state law scares me the most out of all of them. If one can get away with it than the rest will try – and as we’ve seen in the past when politicians *need* votes they know how to
get the dead to vote multiple timesget them.Cities laws preceding state laws is a wonderful thing. It allows liberal cities to be an island of them self, and more conservative cities/places to do the same. Government at the local level works best.
Unfortunately it’s virtually impossible for a city to create local firearms laws which are more liberal than state law. It’s quite easy, though, for them to create onerous and anti-gun municipal and local laws which are MORE strict than state law. This has the effect of turning the state into a patchwork of confusing minefields where you never are quite sure what is legal where. It’s far better to solve these issues at the state (or even national) level, than leave local governing bodies to their own devices.
Do you fancy checking the laws of every single location you happen to drive though to ensure that you’re not inadvertently committing a felony?
Local government is a good thing, generally speaking, but there is such a thing as “too fine-grained”, where the burden of complying with all the differing laws is so great that it no longer justifies the benefits.
Perhaps Cabela’s should reconsider the store they are building at Christiana.
Cabela’s is building two stores here in CO and have not indicated that they will change their plans after the passing of our terrible laws.
Met this guy at the capital ralley on MLK weekend. Seemed like a cool guy. Like some other states, DE is very divided when it comes to geography and political philosphy. Few counties in America differ from each other more than New Castle (Where Biden was from like 30 years ago) county and Sussex county.
A lot of states are very divided actually. As a Kalifornia resident, I can attest to that. By landmass, the state is hugely conservative. It’s just the liberals in the bay area and down south that rule the state. And I’m guessing that a good voter ID law would change a lot of that, stopping the illegals (and dead) from voting.
Joe Biden lived in New Castle County the day he was named Obamas running mate and still maintains a home here today that he retreats to very often. The location you are referring to is where he was born, Scranton PA.

I’m sorry, you’ve somehow mistaken the NE from the SE. VA and MD could not be farther apart in terms of gun politics. We have the whole DC, NOVA area to deal with but yet we still manage to have some common sense here. The struggle is simply getting people to vote. MD has two liberal bastions that get the vote out exponentially more than the rest of the State, thus, you get this kind of BS the author describes above.
Living in New Castle County myself I know first hand what a mixed bag it is in terms of feelings on gun rights. I received correspondence from the Lt. governor as well as various state senators and representatives, all of them echoed the same belief that gun rights are important to Delawareans but apparently not important enough to propose any useful legislation. The funny thing is I moved from Connecticut where gun laws are only getting worse to Delaware where it is following suit.

Anti-2A bigotry is strong here, I’ve heard the vitriol they spew when they don’t know gun owners are nearby and it is downright frightening how misguided many elite, wealthy Delawareans are, not to mention corrupt. There is a lot of wealth tucked away here and we will have to fight them tooth and nail to stop this.
I have worked for the state here in DE and it is a 100% Democrat run operation. I was fired from the DOL the day after stating I owned a firearm. My co-worker’s jaw dropped when I told her and the next day I got a call saying not to come in. They gave other reasons, but the timing was not a coincidence. I would have never mentioned it, but a local gun shop had applied for a tax credit and my co-worker asked if I knew what the shop was because I am from Newark, where it was located. An older lady I worked with told me “they’re all democrats” my first day on the job and she was constantly referred to by my liberal co-workers as a “troublemaker.” She was a nice lady and my co-workers openly abused Xanax and shirked their duties.
It was a truly terrible place to work and Wilmington, Delaware may as well be Chicago, Illinois based on what I’ve experienced. We can’t afford to give these bastards an inch because they are ITCHING to take a mile or ten. I doubt we will be able to beat them back, but when they pass this law it will only be the start of something much bigger.
As a Delawarean I have been arguing with this lady [email protected] she is the Representative for my district. I don’t think i am going to get anywhere as she endorses the bill’s. This is really pissing me off. After years in the army 3 tours in the middle east here i am trying to have the same right as when i left. Only to find people to cowardice to have served taking away my rights due to there irrational emotionally biased points of view.

My wife asked me (a very patriotic man my entire life) if after what America has quickly become I have become ashamed of my and my family’s service. The shame is that I cannot say no.
Try to persuade her to at least not endorse removing the preemption law. As bad as the Delaware law will be, it will get much worse in the cities eager to have their own ordinances. Just compare the laws in New York City and the rest of New York State And there is a good argument one can make with preemption – if the Delaware law will become very strict after all the other measures are adopted, there is no need to have anything special in the cities.

DHS and other alphabet agencies have recently purchased over 1.8 BILLION rounds of hollow point ammo – enough to shoot every man, woman, and child in the country 5 times or more – enough for over 20 years of warfare here in the homeland at the intensity of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict – ammo that’s illegal for military use under international law, and have just ordered more and an additional 7,000 FULLY AUTOMATIC “personal defense” weapons. These lawmakers are life long politicans, they’ve been in there so long they have no fear of the common man. Grassroots need to impose term limits on these power mongers to save ourselves.
