“Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson expresses frustration at the pace of gun violence in the city.” That’s the terse some-might-say jaundiced description provided by The Chicago Tribune underneath their YouTube excerpt of Sup. Johnson’s most recent press conference. A PR event stimulated by a weekend wherein 52 people were shot.
The city’s outpacing last year’s shooting total by a long chalk. Last year, 2,988 Windy City residents were ballistically perforated. So far this year, 2600 suffered the same fate. Regardless, notably absent from both the Superintendent and the Trib: any mention of the “g” word.
“Year-to-date, 2016, nearly 85 percent of our shooting victims, both fatal and non-fatal shootings, have had prior contact with the police,” Johnson reveals. Speeding tickets? I don’t think so. Hello? We’re talking gang bangers banging. Period.
“We’ve identified that small segment of individuals behind this violence,” Johnson reveals. But their days are numbered, he promises. There’ll be more prosecutions of…gang members!
Only Superintendent Johnson can’t bring himself to mention the criminal segment’s group affiliation by name. They are the Black Disciples, Insane Popes, La Raza, Maniac Latin Disciples, Simon City Royals, Spanish Gangster Disciples and Spanish Lords.
There. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Maybe not as easy as calling for gun control, but easy enough. As it says on my long slide 1911, know your enemy, know yourself. Otherwise bad things happen.

Constituents are for those that have been elected. The chief of police has no constituents, he is appointed. He has only a responsibility to his bosses, the mayor and city counsel. The rest of the population is their for revenue.

He keeps using that word “unacceptable” to describe the gang violence. You know, when a situation persists for generations, with no serious success toward ending it and people don’t just leave, that pretty much means it’s acceptable.
Say what you will but when the feds cracked down on the mob, you got lower class, less intelligent, criminal gangs. Breaking up the mob was not a good play for western civilization.
The mob at least had some class and sophistication because they were civilized. Black and brown gangs are just sloppy murdering buffoons.

Gang Lives Matter
Thank God all the athletes and visitors “dodged a bullet” when the International Olympics Commitee decided on having the games in Rio instead of Chicago.
In the late ’80s/early 90s, the city I lived in went through the same crack driven drug crime as everywhere else. The police and prosecutor’s solution was to essentially try to keep the gangs contained and let them kill each other.
Perhaps the civic leaders of Chicago are engaged in a similar approach? However, After 30 years of such an experiment in Chicago, a sentient being would be forced to conclude gangs are capable of recruiting new members as fast as they’re killed and try something different.
It’s a helluva’ lot longer than 30 years Sam. Google 1970’s murder/ crime in Chicago. Way more killings then. And I recall some really nasty rioting in April 1968.
No wonder this idiot is stepping down to be the chief of police at Northeastern Illinois University. Good riddance.
