Pennsylvania-Attorney-General-Kathleen-Kane-1

Pennsylvania’s attorney general, Kathleen Kane, was elected in 2012, and is an avid anti-gunner. She has gone so far as to say that she will not defend the recently passed gun reform bill from a lawsuit filed by some Keystone State cities. The law targeted cities that violate Pennsylvania gun law and citizens’ Second Amendment rights. But she has been under investigation for leaking information from a grand jury in order to undercut a probe into corruption involving the head of the NAACP in Philadelphia . . .

The investigation involved alleged financial improprieties of J. Whyatt Mondesire, the former president of the Philadelphia NAACP. Then-state prosecutor Frank G. Fina, with whom Ms. Kane has been locked for months in a bitter and tangled dispute over how certain cases were handled, oversaw it.

Now the statewide grand jury investigating AG Kane has reccommended criminal charges against her.

The special prosecutor and grand jury investigating allegations that Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane leaked secret information to a newspaper have found evidence of wrongdoing and recommended that she be criminally charged, according to numerous people familiar with the decision.

The panel concluded that Kane violated grand-jury secrecy rules by leaking investigative material in a bid to embarrass political enemies, sources said.

Some of those familiar with the grand jury presentment say it recommended charges that included perjury and contempt of court.

Another scandal came from disclosure that Kane shut down a “sting” operation aimed at Philadelphia officials:

Kane’s tenure has been marked by controversy over the last year, much of it generated by an Inquirer disclosure that she had secretly shut down an undercover “sting” investigation that had caught elected officials from Philadelphia on tape accepting cash.

Philadelphia is one of the cities that is claiming that the state gun reform law is invalid.  They do not claim that the law is unconstitutional, but are challenging the way in which it was passed. The law passed the House by 153 to 54. It passed the Senate by 34-16.  The law would hold Philadelphia to account for violating Pennsylvania law. This is the law that Kane refuses to defend in court.

The Brady Center has said that they will pay for the cities’ lawsuit against the state.

However, in the event that a lawsuit occurs, the Brady Center (currently representing Pittsburgh) has promised to represent pro bono (free of charge) any Pennsylvania municipality that passes lost or stolen handgun reporting. The Brady  Center has given me the authority to convey this offer to Erie.

Now that the Grand Jury has recommended criminal charges against Kane, a county AG will decide whether or not to indict her.

  3. I’m from PA and can tell you that Kathleen Kane is a worthless piece of shit. And I’m actually being nice about it….

      • Scranton area, Philly area, Pitts area. Although most of PA is rural, we always lose to the metro areas. Democrats, welfare recipiants, you know, stupid people elected her.

      • PA consists of Philly and Pittsburgh, with all the liberal derp you would expect, though Pittsburgh is not nearly as bad as Philly, but that’s not saying much. The rest of the state is pretty conservative and rural.

        So what happens is if the big city “community organizers” can turn out the vote, the people get stuck with political hacks like her.

        Then they put in programs and policies to empty the pockets of the rest of the state (the conservative parts where people work for a living) and send the money to the big city for pet projects, payouts and to reward political cronies. See, former Gov. Ed Rendell for an example.

        The only thing that averts total derpi-tude is the legislature which has some seriously pro 2A and fiscally conservative members. As those members of the legislature aren’t beholden to what the populations of the cities want, and they answer to their rural constituents, they are free to oppose all the bad ideas, and they are usually successful.

        • The problem with Pittsburgh is the blue collar workers vote for whoever the Unions tell them to and the Union leadership is in bed with the Democrat party.

        And the reason the sting operation in Philly was stopped is because the officials they caught on camera taking bribes were black and it was deemed too racially incendiary to go further with the investigation / and that the idea for the sting operation was racists or something.

    • I am as well. She’s so bad even the newspapers here call her out for not doing her job.

      Just recently PA passed a law which allows 3rd parties to sue when local authorities enact gun control policies above state law. A couple of Bloomberg mayors are challenging it in court and she has publicly stated that her office will not attend the hearings to defend the law.

    • Kane is not the problem. The voters are. Your friends, neighbors and family. If not for them Kane would be chasing ambulances.

  5. I’d love to see her get convicted and stripped of her license.
    Doubt she’ll do my time and I’m ok with that. The censure and humiliation will go a long ways.

    • She should share a prison cell with Eric Holder. I’d pop a bottle of champagne. Our current set of laws don’t do very well to convict wealthy Democrats.

      After all, we are a nation of laws. The problem is that many of those laws have less value than dogsh!t and those who are politically connected can ignore them with very little accountability. The exception being immigration, which apparently millions of people can not only ignore, but gets tons of free sh!t after crossing the border.

      This nation needs a whole lot more right wing limited government, balanced budget, and Liberty if we expect to prosper.

  6. Kane’s entire career has been nothing but scandals. Good thing for her that she has been able to take advantage of that famous Democrat immunity.

    And as far as these cities suing PA over the new pre-emption law; Let me get this straight, an outside special interest group is paying for a lawsuit to stop a law that allows outside special interest groups to pay for lawsuits? Only Liberals……

      • Perhaps on some kind of absolute scale. But put her up against all other women her age, and she’ll be much closer to the best looking than the worst. That said, I’m thinking the photos of her published during her run for AG in 2012 were either a bit out of date or photo shopped.

  9. How does such an anti-gun rights AG get elected in a state like Pennsylvania? Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, California, New Jersey, etc…sure. But PA?

    • Because of the Sandusky case. Joe Paterno worshippers were so angry at Corbett over how the case went down, that Kane promised an investigation into the investigation hoping to restore Paterno as a local god. Well that never happened.

      • Yes, exactly this. Same reason Corbett didn’t get re-elected (that and an often-repeated lie about education funding). A number of people who voted against Corbett rather than for Wolf are going to have some deep regrets before it’s all over.

    • Philly and Pittsburgh pound statewide elections.

      However, look at the vote in the legislature for the latest pro-gun law they passed. That will tell you a lot about how the rest of the state is outside of those areas.

  10. Anyone with a lick of sense knew this woman was a fraud from the get go. Her campaign ads were full of images of her working as a prosecutor in the courtroom. Which was complete bullshit since cameras aren’t allowed in PA courtrooms. She is a Democrat shill funded by Bloomberg. She meddled with concealed carry reciprocity totally misrepresenting the facts of the qualification requirements among the various states. She can’t be kicked to the curb soon enough. The one bright spot is that as the first Democrat elected to AG in decades, she will probably keep this seat free of gun grabbers for decades to come.

  12. Wish the same fate to fall on our anti-gun AG in California. Ours is not too bright either and a vehement anti gunner like this idiot. Just keep hoping her name comes up in the courtroom for our corrupt, illegal gun running Senator Leland Yee.

    • Don’t underestimate her. Dumb she is not. She’s a smart, ambitious and undoubtedly cynical politician. My guess is she cares only about power and doesn’t give a rat’s rectum about gun control — it’s just a means to an end and a sham way to attract support.

      Think of Leland Yee.

      • Personally, I think she is a dyed in the wool grabber. I also think that since Babs Boxer is retiring, and Gavin Newsome seems to have the inside rail on a run to replace Gov. Brown in four years, that Harris will be running for the US Senate. She certainly has a lot more face and name recognition over any other potential candidate, even the former mayor of LA who has an interest in the seat.

        • Agreed; Kamala’s about reached her ‘zenith’ as CA AG. She needs to move on to something more lofty or she’ll lose upward momentum. And unfortunately for us, Newsom will likely be following Brown into the governorship on the votes of the press, unions, the ruling metro kingdoms, and the variously motivated (or unmotivated) low information sheeple and entitlement ticket holders and unicorns.

    • That’s pretty harsh. Remember that their are plenty of sketchy Republicans out there like Christie. The problem with Democrats is that 90 % of them give the rest a bad name.

  16. Philly is the only city in the state that does not allow open carry of handguns without permit. They claim “City of the first class” status(only one in the state) and thus believe they’re exempt.

    Considering there’s a number of large cities in the state(including Pittsburgh) that are vastly superior to Philly in every possible way, how they think they’re special is beyond me.

    • “City of First Class” means > 1 million residents, of which Philly is the only city to qualify in PA.

      PA state law mandates the non-open carry in those cities, so while Philly is definitely anti gun, state level lawmakers can put an end to that exemption, if they so choose to.

        You can open carry in Philly if you have a valid license to carry.

        The Law:

        18 Pa.C.S. § 6108: Carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia

        No person shall carry a firearm, rifle or shotgun at any time upon the public streets or upon any public property in a city of the first class unless:
        (1) such person is licensed to carry a firearm; or
        (2) such person is exempt from licensing under section 6106(b) of this title (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license).

        If you live in Philly you will have a hard time getting a license to carry.

        If you do not live in Philly your local county Sheriff will gladly give any law abiding citizen one. And that license to carry is valid in Philly, even though the Philly cops and politicians hate it.

        There have been a few incidents the last couple years where people have put this to the test. They avoided getting shot, but did get to taste sidewalk. The department was given instructional materials to remind them of the law when the dust settled and the lawyers got involved.

    • Philadelphia is a “City of the First Class” under Pennsylvania law. What “class” a city is depends on population, and nothing else. State law prohibits carrying without a license in Philly, not the city.

        • Cities in PA are divided into four “classes,” based on population. The only “first class city” is Philadelphia, the only “second class city” is Pittsburgh, and the only “second class A city” is Scranton. All other cities are “third class.” Small towns, which could be called cities in other states, are officially classified as “boroughs” in Pennsylvania. Suburban and rural areas are either “first class townships” or “second class townships.” Believe it or not, each type of municipality has its own set of laws on what it can and cannot do, all made by the state.

          The state made it a crime to open carry in “first class cities” (just Philadelphia) without a license in 1972. Everywhere else it is legal to open carry without a license. You need a license to conceal carry everywhere, however. No doubt it is a dumb law.

  17. I think most people are terribly naive about corruption in politics. I only knew a handful of politicians that I would account honest. And one of them came to Sacramento just as naive as a schoolboy. I remember talking with him and seeing how broken he was, just crushed at how corrupt and wrong the system was and how powerless he was to do anything. The second year he took up hobbies, like launching model rockets during recess, and didn’t run for re-election

    The thing is, here in California, Republicans at the state level aren’t corrupt, because who would want to pay them off? They have no power. But in local government it doesn’t matter the letter after their name, only if an R is caught and it is exploited by the opponent you can quickly change political leanings, as happened in my town, but not the other way around. In anycase, I know a mayor in one town who will walk into restaurants, expect free service, and threaten them with inspections and fines if they don’t give a supporter a job, or serve him first, or what have you. He is not even discrete about his use of power, and that is in a small town and only a little power.

    And every town around me I know is corrupt. If not every official, the more important ones (like the guy who is city attorney for a dozen cities and takes our money for nothing)

    What separates the Democrats from the Republicans, is that they can go bigger and have better protection from getting nailed for it.

    Well funded private interest groups offering free lawsuits for elected bodies against other elected bodies. That’s corruption, isn’t it?

Even if the preemption law is declared unconstitutional on a procedural technicality (the only reason it is being challenged in court), it can be passed again by the General Assembly without the defect later. It was passed last year with enough votes to override a gubernatorial veto, and surely would have enough votes again given the GOP’s increased number of seats following the 2014 elections and the change of leadership in the Senate.

    • They may have enough votes for a veto override, though that’s what they would need now. I’m thinking it doesn’t matter as much, though. Dem admin, they are going to encourage the cities to keep pushing leftist agendas, regardless of what the law says.

      It’s foolish to expect criminals to obey laws concerning firearms, even if those criminals happen to be Philly politicians.

      • No doubt Wolf would veto a second passage of the bill, so they’ll need enough votes to override. Fortunately, if the law is upheld, or if they re-pass it, what Wolf thinks will be irrelevant. Whether a municipal ordinance is valid or not will be up to the courts.

  24. I posed a YT video prior to her being elected. Her campaign was nothing but lies. She had ads running claiming to close the gun show and Florida “loopholes”. These ads ran only in the Philly area. She was shown working a courtroom and no camera are ever allowed in PA courts. She really did pander to all the Penn State Alum with the Sandusky trial and Paterno stuff.

    Not only did she get Bloomberg money, most of her campaign was financed by her wealthy husband… and now they are getting a divorce.

    Now PA has another Dem governor who is a complete dips**t and spent millions of his own money to get the job.

    PA used to be a nice red state surrounded by blue, lately things have taken a turn for the worse. And it really does come down to Philly, Allentown and Pittsburgh.

    • I don’t think Pennsylvania was ever a “nice red state.” Governors have gone back between GOP and Dems over the past 60 years, and so has the legislature.

      I think it is more accurate to say that Pennsylvania used to have more conservative Dems–Robert Casey–and more liberal GOP–Tom Ridge–all of whom were relatively pro-gun (even Vince Fumo was pro-NRA). Not so much anymore.
