A Littlefield, Texas woman was getting ready to drive off her property with her kids when an armed carjacker began assaulting both her and her boyfriend, shouting that their car was his. The attacker was Ruben Garcia Lopez, age 25 (pictured above), and the car was, in fact, not his.

Terrified, the woman started trying to get her kids out of the car and away from the situation while Lopez continued to attack her. Then, just in the nick of time:

“A neighbor arrived at his home, saw the attack in progress, and armed himself with his handgun. He has a concealed handgun permit,” said police. “He came to the aid of the victims and pointed his weapon at the attacker.”

Lopez hurled some insults at the neighbor, but moved away from the car and across the street. When police arrived, Lopez was still there ready to resist being arrested (he attacked a police officer).

Fortunately, no one suffered serious harm during this incident. The assailant is now being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing bodily harm, terroristic threat and resisting arrest. Another crime prevented courtesy of a good guy with a gun.

    • Nice job, Coffee. I wouldn’t have been able to understand this post without you pointing out there are some grammatical errors. I really hope it makes your day to know you have shown yourself superior to the authors of TTAG. In fact, screw TTAG, I now want to dedicate my time to reading your informative, well-written gun blog with content I’d be really interested in reading. Please, provide that URL for all of us.

  1. “The assailant is now being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing bodily harm, terroristic threat and resisting arrest. Another crime prevented courtesy of a good guy with a gun.”

The over-and-under on time he will serve is 0 days.

    • I’d happily exchange no jail time (and thus not using tax payer remittances) for a simple DNA collection and IMMEDIATE, permanent deportation. Deal?

        • Absolutely! If he ever dared to return, he’d be immediately identified as a (gasp!!) illegal alien!! Oh, the horror!

        • “If he ever dared to return, he’d be immediately registered to vote as a Democrat in San Francisco!! Oh, the horror!”

          FIFY

      • “permanent deportation” would require actual border security and a wall. which a certain political party with a jackass as a mascot will “resist” as if their life depends on it. which it does.

  2. In the city currently known as Austin, dude could probably get affordable bail or maybe an electronic bracelet – just like s**t-congo, Illinois.

  3. It’s hard to tell from a photo, especially a booking photo, but that does not look like the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

  4. I may be a tad hard hearted but wouldn’t a ‘permanent resolution’ have been justified, since he was armed and attacking? Would sure save some time and tax payer money, and might send a much-needed message.

    • I’m suspicious about that double armed thing, I think if he was waving a gun he would have been shot a little.

  5. You’ve heard that some people have what’s called a “punchable” face? That dude has a “beaten with a golf club” face. Is that supposed to be tough he’s pushing for?

  6. Usually I don’t comment on people being ugly, pot calling the kettle black, and all that, but that wannabe tough-guy look just makes me wonder… Did his mother raise him with a bag over his head, or was she blind? I mean, he fell out of the ugly tree as a kid, hit every branch on the way down, then stumbled into a big pile of stupid to look and act like this.

  7. Yes, the article could have been written a little better. No, the current wording does not impede acquiring a basic understanding of the incident. Yes, the accused would benefit from extensive dental work. No, such dental work would not increase his intelligence or make him any less likely to reoffend. No, the Good Samaritan should not have shot him; it obviously wasn’t necessary, as the GS correctly assessed. Yes, he will probably be released either OR or on minimal bond. Yes, he will probably reappear in another mugshot or coroner’s report in the not too distant future. Such is life, even in Texas.
