Reacting to reports that Everytown for Gun Safety, the group founded by anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg, is planning to spend millions of dollars to flip the Texas legislature, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms warned, “The Lone Star State is not for sale, Mike.”
“He couldn’t buy his way into the White House,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “so Michael Bloomberg’s surrogates at Everytown are trying to buy the Texas Legislature in Austin. Apparently Bloomberg has forgotten how Texans love their liberty and independence, and how they will fight to protect it.”
Published reports say Everytown’s political arm will spend at least $8 million to turn the Lone Star State blue in November. Gottlieb calls that a warning signal for grassroots Second Amendment activists across the country.
“Last month,” he recalled, “CNN reported that a ‘Bloomberg-aligned’ group was targeting 13 states to register more than 100,000 young voters in an effort to win congressional and legislative seats for anti-gunners. Texas was one of those states, so this big money effort must be taken seriously.”
Other states mentioned in the voter registration scheme were Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin,
“The Citizens Committee is calling on all grassroots activists, not just in Texas but in every other state, to organize and fight back,” Gottlieb said. “Everytown has the backing of a billionaire, but dollars don’t vote, people do.
“Last year,” he recalled, “Michael Bloomberg spent tens of millions of dollars in a failed run for the presidency, and he never got out of last place. His gun control message didn’t resonate, so instead of trying to win support, his lobbying group is now trying to buy it, one state at a time.
“It’s time to remind Bloomberg’s Everytown group that freedom and the Constitution are not for sale,” Gottlieb said.

Do Texas legislators still take down $7500 per year? They did for something like a hundred years and up ’till recently, but I haven’t seen it referred to in years. Used to be Lt Gov also, I think Perry was making that when Bush won the presidency, went from $7500/year to something like $150K.
Were I running anti-Bloomberg ads in Texas, I’d remind voters of what he pulled in Virginia and Washington state. Especially Washington, with the “grocery tax” signs posted up by the anti-2A petitions.
I’ve found there are very, very few organizations/activists as wholly dishonest and as skilled at disassembling (lying) as the Anti-2A crowd. Put a spotlight on them, and specifically point out the stunts they’ve pulled in the past.

Good god, how naive can CCRKBA get? Of course the state is for sale! All political offices at every level are for sale! Always have been and always will be so long as big money is allowed to do as it darned well likes!
The thing is, all sides play the same game with massive amounts of money trying to move the votes their way. Money is the key, who has the most of it, who spends the most in district after district and year after year.
No, Bloomberg cannot in a single year turn an entire state Blue. But, he and others like him can, over a period of years, change the voting balance in a legislature. If that happens in Texas it will be the culmination of a multi year effort.
Texas never was all that pro gun, it was kind of all hat and no cattle on the Second Amendment until recently. Still has a lot of catching up to do just to come even with, say, Arizona.
Which also means it wouldn’t be that big a push to tilt Texas back the way it used to be, or worse.

A slow insidious attack as has happened in other states. It has already began in some major metropolitan areas. Remember the Socialist/Liberal leadership is playing the “Long Game”. Demography is destiny. With a porous southern border, the demographics of Texas are changing. Many of the people coming from Mexico do not share the Texan vision of “liberty and independence” therefore do not see it as a voting issue.
That’s why democrats are so giddy about the thought of a purple Texas. The changing demographics are essentially grease on the skids for Bloomberg. That’s why he’s only spending 8 million and not 80 million.
