canada nova scotia mass shooting

As night follows day, Canada is lurching toward stiffer gun control laws following the nation’s deadliest mass shooting over the weekend, when 18 people were killed by a man disguised as a police officer.

Prime Minister Justin “Shoe Polish” Trudeau, not one to let a valuable crisis go to waste, has vowed to further impinge on Canadians’ ability to defend themselves, possibly including banning semi-automatic firearms.

From the Washington Post . . .

“I can say that we were on the verge of introducing legislation to ban assault-style weapons across this country,” he said. “It was interrupted when the pandemic caused Parliament to be suspended, but we have every intention of moving forward on that measure, and potentially other measures, when Parliament returns.”

What kind of firearm did the Nova Scotia shooter use during his rampage and how did he obtain it? For some reason, that information has yet to be revealed by authorities. But the shooter was reported to have owned a shotgun and two registered handguns. Yet Trudeau is pushing to ban “assault weapons.” Because of course he is.

Much as U.S. gun control groups immediately step up during similar situations to demand more infringements on Second Amendment rights, Canada’s gun-grabbers have wasted no time in calling on Ottawa for immediate legislative action to DO SOMETHING while the iron is still hot (and the bodies are barely cold).

Meanwhile gun rights groups in our neighbor to the north are doing what they can.

Rod Giltaca, chief executive of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, said it was too soon to debate guns.

“Just shy of 24 hours past the tragedy in Nova Scotia, the gun-control lobby is leveraging this community’s suffering for their own political gain,” he said. “No law in this country could have stopped a madman with this level of determination and resources.”

We wish Giltaca luck. But given that the national government is led by a far left anti-gun PM, momentum for a Port Arthur-like response — though hopefully not as radical — will be difficult to fight off.

UPDATE: TTAG spoke with Sheldon Clare, the President of Canada’s National Firearms Association. He had this to say . . .

Gun control is based on a lie that it has something to do with public safety. It never has – it has always been about civil disarmament. Compromise is what has got us to where we are.

I have been through some six Canadian gun grabs, all of which targeted my property, reduced its value and attempted to vilify me, and others like me who have used firearms their whole lives.

The three failed aspects of Liberal gun control (licensing, classification, and registration) serve only as barriers to lawful ownership, and are no barrier to illegal possession or use, and in no way prevent subsequent bad choices. We are always at the whim of the next example of failed gun control as we saw in Nova Scotia this past weekend.

We don’t accept gun control as a solution – it’s in fact the problem.

    • ^ this. I was going to say, “well of course he wants more gun control.” He did before. Has nothing to do with the tragedy, except that he may now see an opportunity.

      • Yep, didn’t take ‘em long. Not unexpected and I’m not surprised, them being the good subjects that they are.

    • Prime Minister Justin “Shoe Polish” Trudeau is like our American Democratic communists. Disarm your opponents so you and get rid of anyone who stands against you. Trudeau is a fucking idiot.

  1. Yeah sure girly boy, more gun laws on top of no gun rights? Sure, that’ll fix it! It’s called virtue signaling, don’t even think it fools Canadians anymore.

    • Maybe Canadians are awakened but I wonder how many will stand up to the government. Just like I wonder how many Americans will stand by the phrase “….from my cold dead hands”.

    • That’s because most of the gun laws they want on tbe books are already there, so they gotta come up with even more restrictive rules. To get “better” ideas it takes practice and creativity. Our anti gun politicians have lists of B.S. in hand ready to go.

  2. ‘This event demands that we do something different; so instead of doing something effective, we are going to do the same thing we’ve been doing time and time again, to no result. ‘

    • Progressive mindset. If you can’t punish the guilty, then you punish and persecute the innocent.

Much like a farmer beating his dog because a fox got into the henhouse.

  3. It has been very interesting to see how many things the progressives told us were life-and-death issues have fallen off the screen now that everybody is dealing with something that might *actually* mean life or death.

It’s also instructive to take note of all the social engineering they’re *still* trying to pack into literally everything they do. Everything is an opportunity. These people will never leave the rest of us alone so long as we and they are still alive.

  4. Wait…didn’t the perp take and use a RCMP officer’s gun during his spree? How is another set of laws going to stop that?

    • Take the guns away from the canadian cops. Problem solved. Give them a whistle and a radio. If the canadian cops or citizens don’t like that let them work to get a better PM.

      • Excellent!! Shades of Keystone Kops! So cop comes under fire, uses radio to call for reinforcements who come at a run, maybe a hundred of ’em carrying a lot of harsh language capability as the original target blows his whistle. By this time the perp has reloaded and fires on them AGAIN! BANG! Now half the cops are calling on their radios for more reinforcements, while the other half are calling their mommys, while all are wildly blowing their whistles.

  5. “Gun violence” must be controlled. We should try a law…..How about God’s “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” Ooops, tried that, didn’t work.
How about man’s Murder 1; Murder 2; Manslaughter. There that will do it. Ooops, those didn’t work.
Let’s try 22,000+ laws against the “….shall not be infringed.” of The Second Amendment. There, that will surely do it. Ooops, didn’t. Canada doesn’t have our Second Amendment, but the same concept applies to enacting laws against violence.
Well, maybe just one more law from “take them all if I could” Ditzy Diane, “Never worked a day in my life” Bolshevik Bernie, Ole Creepy, Sleepy, Crazy, Fire Two Blasts In The Air Joey, “keep ’em on the Government Plantation” Crazy, Lazy Lacey Clay, or “Ain’t Oakley” Annie.
Ooops, that ain’t gonna do it either.
A politician with a law never stops a bad guy with a gun.
He only controls the good guys….which is his true agenda. Making good people helpless does not make bad people…..or politicians……harmless.
“Killing is a matter of will, not weapons.
You cannot control the act itself
by passing laws about the means employed.”
The late Col Jeff Cooper, 1958
Handgun expert and founder of Gunsite Academy
For once I agree with Bill O’Reilly. Bad guys shooting people is the price of freedom. Liberty is risky business. That’s why our Founding Fathers recognized our God-given right to shoot back.
History has repeatedly demonstrated that disarming good people in the name of making bad people harmless only eventually facilitates politicians shooting their own countrymen. History…learn from it or be doomed to relive it.

  6. Of course he will go there. Like all feel-good libtards he will push The Agenda. And the hosers lose again. Elect a libtard, this is your reward.

  7. “Peace, order, and good government” (from the Constitution of Canada) vs “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” (the US Declaration of Independence). See the difference?

  8. Thrift, thrift, Horatio! The funeral baked meats
Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables.

Nothing like inductive reasoning and logic already calling for more gun control for the opportunistic politician that never lets a crisis go to waste.

Im betting the hospitals tested all the victims and wrote it down as COVID-19 related, just like in the US.

  9. Given the status of Canadian firearms law as I understand it to be, quite restrictive, how much margin exists for even more? As to Trudeau’s comments on “assault weapons”, how come he and like minded others are so long on proposals to restrict or ban something that they cannot or will not specifically define?

    • They are quite able to define, they just need to get the law passed first. Then we discover that an “assault weapon” is any firearm. Face it, if I have a gun and you do not, I can assault you all day all night, and you can’t do shit about it.

  10. Maybe they should have tighter control on police (constable) uniforms so no one is able to impersonate LEO?

  11. According to various news sources the perpetrator acquired a vehicle and disguised it as a police car. He was also dressed as a Canadian Mountie which is their version of a police officer. He then pulled over the victims and executed them with either a handgun or shotgun. His rampage lasted for at least 12 hours. No so-called assault weapon was used in his crime spree.

So the question is if you have a person act as a police officer and goes around executing people what type of gun control legislation would have stopped this.?

  12. Because that always makes things better, right Mr Trudeau? That will bring back the victims. Got it. Make everything better. Sure. Keep telling yourself that. You can only go so far into negative zero levels before your policies can’t possibly have any effect, but hey, go for it. In other words, placing more restriction on guns your people already are not supposed to have access to will serve to make you feel like you did something, so there’s that “Look at me, I did something” factor to roll in make yourself feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but you won’t actually achieve any net result. Some lunatic will kill again someday because you can’t legislate evil out of the hands of people bent on committing it. You can, however, leave your law-abiding citizens with no means to protect themselves from evil, so, in effect, you will have done something. Feel good about that now? Look, you did something….

  13. “Yet Trudeau is pushing to ban “assault weapons.” Because guns.”
He’ll go for the entire class of guns and then blame the US for guns being in Canada afterwards.

Mexico is about as gun banned as it gets. Funny how the criminals are armed.

    • Because in Mexico, the criminals, government, police, and military have united in a war against the people.

  14. while this hockey puck is addressing semi- auto legislation soon after this latest tragedy, he didn’t mention the nove scotia shootings in that quote, only parliament reconvening.

  15. Next knives will be outlawed, then your speech will be policed, jolly ol England anyone?
Stupid 🖕pos he’s just a coward, no balls! Ask the people what they want you 🖕dicktator!

  16. It is not gun control that is needed! It is Idiots that need the control! When they start Idiot Control they may have chance to stop the shootings. There has never been a gun that shot anyone. It is Idiots that do the shootings. More people killed with blunt objects every day than guns like a Hammer. Democrats kill more people than almost everything else. But they made it a law where they can Kill Millions legal with abortion! You kill someone it is a death warrent! Democrats kill someone it is Control. Or Birth Control which ever is handy! They have excuses for murder. Part of their life. But If someone is shot it is the Guns Fault! Never the Idiot that pulled a trigger! Try to explain that to a idiot like Trudeau!

  17. Where does the title SHOE POLISH come from as pertains to Trudeau? One must recognize that Canadians, as I remember, are subjects to the King and not Constitutionally guaranteed rights as per the US Constitution. Also as they have one and it is unlike ours which is directed to the individual and not for the good order for the govenment
So they can pass laws as Trudeau sees fit. Also what kind of weapons were used in this tragedy? It seems Trudeau tries to be a good liberal opportunistic, progressive ruler for which facts really don’t matter . Just a preconceived agenda that seeks to disarm his country’s residents. I didn’t say citizens who have rights protected by a Constitution.

  18. If the shooter was disguised as a police officer, why are they not considering banning police officers? Or at least, their uniforms?

  19. Wait just a minute mr. truedodo…The last gun control insanity you and your ilk passed following a massacre was supposed to prevent this tragedy from happening. Wha’ happened? I tell you what happened you self serving 24/7 armed guard protected canadian ratbassturd…Gun Control disarms the law abiding and caters to murderers, rapists, perverts, kidnappers, child molesters and tyranical twerps like you.
Oh Canada don’t you know the roots of Gun Control are in racism and genocide? Perhaps one day you’ll find out the hard way.

  20. Sheldon Clare’s comments hits the nail squarely on the head. And let this be a warning to all of us in the US:

“Gun control is based on a lie that it has something to do with public safety. It never has – it has always been about civil disarmament. Compromise is what has got us to where we are.”

  21. Canada’s tragedy proves that nothing is more important to this country than a complete and total ban on guns. It is up to the Democrats to push this law through. Thankfully Joe Biden is on track to win the presidency. Common sense people will remember the legacy of Barack Obama and turn out in droves to elect Biden. The radical right cannot beat an Obama led campaign. When Biden brings in Beto O’Rourke to be the gun czar all the pieces will be in place for confiscation. With the Democrats in control of all three branches of government the laws on guns will pass quickly. Education will replace guns. Peace and prosperity will begin anew.

    • Best laugh I have had all day, Kimber…
      Thanks. Assuming it was sarcasm.
If not… who is going door to door to collect the 500M or so guns? Your son/daughter?
Surely it will NOT be Beto or any other politician.
Cops and military know better…or should.

    • Kimber, I’ll be waiting here for you to show up, and I’ll educate you in the errors of your assumptions before I execute you.

  22. Trudeau doesn’t know an assault weapon from a Black Cat firecracker much less which one would have been used. He’s the prime minister, not a knowledgeable on specific things except dance and drama.

  23. Because your stict gun control worked so well already, right…… pffft, just goes to show its about people control, nothing more.

  24. Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana is always good for a soundbite.
I was just just listening to him doing an interview and he said,  “I’ve tried to look at things from the Democrat perspective, I really have.  I just can’t get my head that far up my ass.”

Bill Shuey – Writer and Columnist

    • For those who did not hear that, *I* did. That is not a joke, he actually said that in national news TV. And at least on FOX, he was not bleeped, came through loud and clear.

  25. Brilliant! More restrictions on the law abiding…great idea. Now they just need to figure out how to make those with muderous intentions abide.

  26. I have some Canadian FB friend’s. One continually posts political memes. Pierre’s bastard boy is in league with China worse than any dumbocrat. Apiring dictator too. What a contrast with Donnie. And the Bill of Right’s. And most Dims!

  27. Part of it is that it fits their agenda of disarmament. A lot of it is just coincidence- pushing that agenda allows them to claim they’re “doing something” when they aren’t. Because actually doing something is hard.

Also, the reality is that life is dangerous. You will never be able to stop everyone who wants to do bad things.

  28. Wasn’t it Henry Weinstein who tried to make hay about the NRA, when his own personal problems came to light?

Gun control for politicians is just their way of saying “look over here instead!”

  29. I don’t see the idiot gun grabbers and “Shoe Polish” wanting to know how the guy got a police uniform and was able to setup a car to look like a police car. I guess that’s not important only the evil gun that took over his mind and made him do this shooting. The shooter had no police record and jumped through all their hoops but of course that’s also unimportant. As usual they think legislation can stop people from doing evil things. But as others have said it’s only about controlling the law abiding, they care nothing about stopping criminals. Who knows at this point but he may have stolen the weapons possibly from the police. If so it’ll be covered up and we’ll never hear about it. As another note – any country that arrests someone for defending themselves and let’s the criminal go deserves their loss of freedom and security. That’s what they voted for.

  30. Well I guess they may take a page from the American and move to ban Police Officers.

So no one can impersonate them.

Makes sense if you you dont think about it. Or think at all, really.

About as much sense as draconian people..er gun control.

  31. Will this be similar to that ‘vegas shooter’ ?
    No known motive?
I want to know details of why a Canadian just snapped. The ones I have been around are polite, insufferably so. Yes, I know anyone can snap…but their Canadians. /littlesarc.

    • Paddock had several objectives. 1. To get revenge on those deplorable mouth-breathing hicks who denied Hillary her presidency. 2. To get self-loading rifles banned. 3. Reignite gun control with an incident so massive it could not be ignored.

  32. Not surprising. With very little known, leap to give the people the emotional nugget he thinks they need.

LOOK AT ME VOTERS! I DID SOMETHING!!!

  33. The thing is Black Face Turdo, more laws won’t help.

Try having more effective law enforcement and better armed and trained citizens.

  34. It has always been the case that the limiting factors in almost all mass shootings has been the availability of victims and the time required to neutralize the killer. This guy had hours. What does rate of fire have to do with an average of one killing every 40 minutes?
