The school shooting near Los Angeles and Sunday’s multiple homicide in Fresno are more examples of the failure of extremist California gun control, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

Two students were murdered at Saugus High School last Thursday by a teenager who could not legally carry a handgun, and four people died at a residential gathering Sunday evening when unidentified gunmen opened fire. But anti-gun-rights California lawmakers have spent years adopting increasingly restrictive gun control laws that were sold to the public as schemes to prevent such horrendous crimes.

“With each new gun control law,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “California citizens were assured that the new restrictions were necessary to stop deadly crimes. But the only people to suffer the consequences are law-abiding gun owners and innocent victims.

“The Saugus school shooting should convince any rational person that lawmakers in Sacramento have perpetuated a fraud,” he observed. “They’ve known all along that their gun control agenda was only going to prevent honest citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights. Criminals, regardless of their age, have never been prevented from committing deadly crimes by California’s extremist gun laws.

Within hours of the school shooting, anti-gun Democrats were renewing their push for so-called “universal background checks” and a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” despite the fact that the alleged teen gunman couldn’t legally have the gun he used, which was a .45-caliber pistol, not a rifle.

“What Thursday’s tragic school shooting really shows is the callousness of gun control fanatics who quickly dusted off their same old agenda knowing it has nothing to do with the circumstances of the Saugus incident,” Gottlieb said. “And now we’ve got four new victims in Fresno, and California gun control laws didn’t prevent that crime, either.

“It’s time for Democrats in Sacramento, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, to admit their gun control crusade has been an abysmal failure. They’ve closed their eyes and ears to the truth like they closed their minds to the Constitution. They should apologize to gun owners for years of scapegoating their own policy failures.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

  1. Swallowswell was too busy participating in the Dems other fraud called impeachment or Nullification of a presidential election and your individual right to vote cuz you did it wrong!

    • Yes, it’s a fraud because they have no intention of actually impeaching Trump. They love Trump. They want him to stay. It’s all a show to improve their image. Every time they need a popularity boost they bring up impeachment and act all morally superior. Same show they put on when shootings happen. They know if Trump gets another four years the Democrats will be even stronger when he leaves and they will dominate most elections throughout the country and the presidency for many terms.

The government won’t impeach a president over small matters because it works both ways. If they impeach Trump they should have impeached Obama and Bush.

      • “The government won’t impeach a president over small matters because it works both ways.”

I disagree, in this specific impeachment, if they would have had the votes in the Senate, they damn well would have convicted him. And cheered on camera while doing it.

And they would have justified it on moral grounds (he’s a rapist, grifter, etc.)

You don’t seem to understand the raw, naked hatred they have for Trump. It’s a pathological, mentally-ill variety of hatred…

  2. Is this enough for California gun owners to come out from where ever they are hiding?

Will they show up in force at public meetings?

Will they publicly address the Mulford Act and the CURRENT elected leadership? Who SUPPORT it? Demand Repeal of this racist gun control law that today’s California Democrat Party supports.

If they want to bring up Ronald Reagan. Then ask them why They support the racist Mulford Act?

Ask them why they are afraid of law abiding black people having Second Amendment civil rights?

Ask the elected leadership why California police need a patrol “weapon of war” rifle?

the only way Californians are going to keep their civil rights is by confronting the states racist gun control past.

The ownership of the Mulford Act and the other racist gun control laws in the state of California has passed to the current living leadership in office. As well as the registered voters in the state. They are the ones that can fix this problem.

Digging up the dead body of a previous governor and president will not change a thing. That is just a distraction.

    • If you think California gun owners have anything to do with what’s going on right now, then you are just as deranged as the Sac pols that hate us.

And cops need AR15 patrol rifles, because everybody knows that cops are racist baby murderers, and Gabby Giffords told me that the AR15 was invented in Vietnam to murder little brown foreigners and children. /sarc/

    • “Is this enough for California gun owners to come out from where ever they are hiding?”

      ****
I just don’t know how to respond to that, Chris, as I know you’re well aware of how many times I (and all the other CA commenters here at TTAG) have voiced our own efforts. To make your stupid statement that gun owners haven’t been doing anything all these years and are simply hiding is beyond asinine.

You have burned up any and all possible credibility you might have had. We now know you have no idea what you’re talking about.

      • I Haz a Question,

Disclaimer: I am not “piling on” or dumping on you. I honestly want your take.

Multiple times I have suggested that California firearm owners choose a few particular legislators and the governor, as well as a specific day, and deluge those people with certified mail (signature required and shoe box sized packages), phone calls, and e-mails stating their grievances and demanding that California government repeal laws that infringe on their inalienable rights. Of course you all would have to pick a day well enough in advance that everyone would know about it and be able to participate.

If California has 5 million firearm owners and just 2% participate, that means 100,000 certified mail packages, phone calls, and e-mails converging on Sacramento ON THE SAME ONE OR TWO DAYS. And imagine if 10% participated creating 500,000 certified mail packages, phone calls, and e-mails on the same one or two days. That brings Sacramento to a screeching halt. For a very long time. Think about the governor’s office trying to sign for, store, and open 100,000 to 500,000 certified mail with signature required packages arriving at once. Now imagine repeating that one day avalanche the next month and the next month after that. That is the ULTIMATE heckler’s veto.

Why doesn’t anyone ever even try to do this?

On any given day, I get as many as six robo-calls. I can tell you first hand, it is extremely annoying. I cannot begin to imagine receiving 100,000 calls in one day, or even over the course of an entire month.

        • All of that mail goes to Gavin Newsom….. and….. then what? He becomes a conservative flag waiving pro-2nd ammendment republican? It’s Gavin Newsom…. Perhaps we should do this to our Senator Kamala Harr…… ohhhh…. ya…. maybe not…. Well, maybe I should write my local Representatives, Nancy Pelosi and Eric Swal….. crap…. that won’t work either…… any other bright ideas?

        • “Why doesn’t anyone ever even try to do this?”
That is what the red flags laws will be used to stopped.

        • California Richard,

Nothing in my above comment suggests that course of action will convert California politicians to joyfully or enthusiastically support your inalienable right to keep and bear arms. Rather, my comment suggests that course of action would force California politicians to begrudgingly repeal laws which infringe on your rights.

Furthermore, I am not suggesting that California legislators or Governor would change course because of your single plea. Rather, I am suggesting that your legislators and Governor would change course under the CRUSHING weight (both literal and figurative) of 100,000+ certified mail packages and endless calls and e-mails.

I don’t think you are seeing the gravity of that situation and the impact that it would have on your Governor and lawmakers. How would staffers and personnel offload, sign-for, sort, and hold over 100,000 boxes? Where would they put them? In the hallways? Leave them on the lawn outside the building? How would staffers answer 100,000 phone calls and e-mails? Perhaps more importantly, how would staffers handle CRITICAL government business queries via U.S. Mail, phone, and e-mail, buried amidst 100,000+ U.S. Mail items, e-mails, and phone calls?

For crying out loud, if even just 1% to 2% of firearm owners in California are not willing to organize and send one piece of certified mail, send one e-mail, and make one phone call, why should California government change course and respect their rights, even begrudgingly?

I know people have busy lives. There is NO EXCUSE for claiming that you cannot be bothered to specify a date and a few key lawmakers and send ONE piece of certified mail, ONE e-mail, and make ONE phone call.

What have you got to lose? Answer: a few minutes of your time and $8 for the certified mail package. What might you gain? Answer: your rights.

        • California Richard,

Another thing, I am not suggesting that California firearm owners send petitions for redress of grievances to federal lawmakers from California (e.g. Harris, Swalwell, Pelosi, Feinstein, etc.).

I am referring to California STATE lawmakers and the Governor to repeal California STATE laws which infringe on your inalienable right to keep and bear arms. Those are the people to whom you should send your petitions for redress of grievances.

        • It is commendable that you would like to do something, but sending certified mail ain’t it. It will only enrich the Postal Service or whatever courier service, you use. I don’t know any government bureaucrats that would sign for any certified package or letter. It isn’t required that they receive any such stuff. I have two alternative methods of getting their attention, both of which I have mentioned on ttag several times; there is a story about the first one. Back in 1961 I was attending jet engine school at Sheppard AFB, Whitchata Falls, Tx. The leo’s and some local youth were exercising their 1st Amendment rights to freely speak to us visiting airmen’s heads with their night sticks and lead pipes, a few knives and an alley apple or two. (That’s a brick for you rural dwellers) The base Commander tried speaking to the Mayor, City Council, and Police Chief to avail. He devised a plan to get their attention, believe me it really worked. The USAF paid everyone every 15 days. So the Commanding officer, had the base paymaster dole out everyone’s pay in two dollar bills, on the first pay period and gave everyone a three day pass, provided they go into to town. The next pay priod he restricted everyone to the base, put the town off limits for a month. About ten days more or less all the merchants descended on City Hall. The result was the Police Chief was demoted or fired as were several other cops. The Mayor came to the base and pleaded with the Commander to reconsider the off limits restriction. Which he did. No, one was attacked and beaten for the time I was still there. About four months.
The other thing is leave the damned place while you still can. Some group or another just might build a wall around it and make it a complete prison. Staying there and bitching about it ain’t working well.

      • Drunks and organized criminals in the 1920’s, taught future generations of Americans how to deal with an overreaching government, and that was through force.

When my wife makes me go to california, I have to bring a semi-automatic rifle with fmj’s in it. If pulled over I have the Constitutional and legal right to use deadly force in order to defend my Liberty from a public servant, who is attempting to deprive me of rights under color of law.
A California cop is the exact kind of inferior men, who the Second Amendment is meant to protect WE Citizens’ Liberty from.

You Californians are subservient to corrupt authority and your cowardice in the face of corruption is a good example of why only 10 percent of the colonist had the honor and integrity to fight the British and their colonial subjects.

You chose wealth over Liberty, and prefer to live life on your knees and not on your feet. California is a beautiful state, but is is ruined by the presence of Californians.

        • “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
          ― Samuel Adams

California as described by a founding father in the late 18th century.

  3. Perhaps someone can correct me on this one (one way or the other). But, at one time, wasn’t California blaming nearby Nevada for their gun problems? I think the politicians in California were calming the shootings were Nevada’s fault, because guns could be acquired more easily, and therefore, they (Nevada) was to blame. Another dumb question I have, is how easy for it to acquire weapons in Mexico, and smuggle them over the border?

    • Last I checked almost every mass shooting in CA the gun was purchased in state and/or made illegally. With now ammo being illegal to have shipped at home and requiring a background check get ready for a homemade ammo blackmarket. And if your going to do it illegally do so illegally and better an make “Cop Killer” AP rounds at home for the most wanted high volume drug dealer.

  4. What do you expect from a state with massive homelessness, outta control violent crime which they won’t do anything about, streets littered with needles, trash and human fecal matter and medieval diseases like the bubonic plague and leprosy making a comeback.

They’ll got all the laws and regulations they want and they refuse to have them enforced against the criminal element.

  5. After they go house to house confiscating all the guns and putting up checkpoints along the borders and shoreline I’ve been assured gun crime will be a thing of the past. Except for the violence used by authorities to enact the law.

    • That’s true. A friend of a friend of a friend told me that all that violence in Mexico is really just a movie set. They’re making lots of movies down there. We know that because citizens can’t legally own guns in Mexico. We will be as safe as Mexico, but with lots more movie sets.

  6. ““It’s time for Democrats in Sacramento, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, to admit their gun control crusade has been an abysmal failure…”

Not holding my breath on that one. Guns are a political issue now and and handy deflection from “inconvenient” causes of violence.

    • Too true. Newsom has such an abiding hatred for all things gun that he will see this as a clarion call to double down.
I would not be shocked if they sought to outlaw all semiautomatic rifles and maybe even handguns. They have been working on getting rid of AR/AK rifles for years, stymied only by the inventiveness of gunsmiths. A total ban of semiauto rifles is the only thing that they have not yet tried.

This last session, they passed legislation to make CCWs even more expensive, since they are smart enough to recognize that if they completely ban concealed carry, the probability that a court will rule that the State has to allow open carry (which is currently illegal, loaded or unloaded, in all cities and towns) as a means of allowing exercise of a fundamental Constitutional right dramatically increases, and that would never do. They would ban all carry in all cities and towns if they thought they could get away with it. As it is, Kamala Harris’ certification that microstamping technology is generally available has seriously cut down on the availability of new semiauto handguns (which was obvioulsy the intent of the law).

    • Exactly. And we should keep in mind that “gun control” isn’t exactly about controlling gun. Advocates are primarily interest in making symbolic gestures which demonstrate the dominance of their values over those of other people. Their dirty secret is that they really don’t much care whether or not their “commonsense” measures work so long as they visibly represent their values. We popularly call this “virtue signalling” but, writ large, it’s “do something!” gun control.

  7. Once more, if they had made a law making it illegaller to illegally shoot a person and if only they would make suicide a capital crime of suicide. Don’t know about Californicated execution methods, but in Florida Old Sparky should be charged up for the capital punishment of the cowards who kill and have the nerve to commit suicide before they are properly executed. After all, they did exhume Oliver Cromwell to give him a proper Hanging, Drawing and Quartering, did they not?

  8. Fresno PD now has an Asian Gang unit:
    https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/crime/article237489379.html
Many CA folks (Dem and Rep Voters) know when we have a gang related shooting, it’s because we have a gang problem not a gun problem. Most densely populated CA city PD’s have gang units.
Funny how the media spotlight prompted Fresno PD to “do something” , but don’t spotlight their attemp, to reduce gang violence…the media still focuses on the “gun problem”.

  9. Never been about crime. Control of the serfs/peasants, LEGAL LAW-ABIDING AMERICAN CITIZENS. Now the new worst of the worst, is the real agenda.
