Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said he was shocked and sickened by the allegations brought against a member of his caucus Wednesday, saying Sen. Leland Yee has until Friday to resign from office or face certain suspension.” Looks like California’s legislators have as much regard for the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” as they do for Second Amendment rights . . .

But when you’ve shined as bright a spotlight on the corrupt nature of Golden State politics — and damaged the cause of rolling back gun rights — as Yee has, the fierce moral urgency for change, to coin a phrase, tends to rule the day.

Yee’s apparently seen the writing on the wall, though. He’s officially withdrawn from the Secretary of State race. Apparently he determined that listing “alleged gun runner” on his campaign flyers as one of his accomplishments during his time as senator wouldn’t impress as many L.A. and San Francisco voters as he’d hoped.

Fortunately at least one California pol still sets a good example. “‘It is our good fortune that the leader of this house is exemplary, a pillar of integrity,’ (Mark) Leno said. ‘Darrell Steinberg sets a tone and we all respond to that.'” I know I feel better. You?

  1. “Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said he was shocked and sickened that Lee got caught, saying Sen. Leland Yee has until Friday to resign from office or face certain suspension.”

    Fixed it for you.

  2. “Innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t apply here. The criminal justice system has to wait until a guilty plea or verdict, but others can make up their mind and act without waiting for that.

    • I agree. Regardless his alleged guilt, it’s undeniable that he has become a monumental distraction from the State’s business. So he should at least be suspended until such time as he can represent his district without the daily three ring media circus. That’s how they do it in the private sector. Even if your case is low profile, you’re flat out fired.

Not only that, but a mere arrest for a Class B misdemeanor offense or worse is sufficient for automatic suspension of one’s license to carry. Well. He’s charged with a whole boatload of major crimes. Maybe his license to make laws should be suspended until his legal problems are resolved.

  3. This is horrible, how will the California Democrats ever find a suitable replacement? Theres a serious lack of corrupt hypocritical serial lying anti RKBA communist pervert candidates for them to choose from. And the poor subjects, err, citizens, suffering from this unfortunate gap in political leadership.

    • Theres a serious lack of corrupt hypocritical serial lying anti RKBA communist pervert candidates for them to choose from.

We ARE talking about California. Worse comes to worse they can tap Hollywood.

  4. So, when can we expect Mr Steinberg to take a ride courtesy the FBI?

If Californias Democrats are anything like their Chicago counterparts, the paper shredders must be running around the clock by now.

  5. What California needs is more gun laws that make these types of activities illegal. Because, you know, if there was a law against it then all this illegal activity would stop immediately… Because it would, like, be against the law and stuff, and we all know that people can’t break the law.

  6. He’s gulity and everybody knows it. But don’t be surprised if Lee starts naming names of high ranking officials an order to shorten his prison time.

    • He’s a Party man through and through. I’ll bet he was squealing like a loose fanbelt in the car going downtown.

  7. Please, oh, please, oh please let the FBI next be seen commandeering Steinberg and De Leon’s offices, searching for evidence. Yee was already the cake, now I want some frosting on the cake.

    • Yep. Good catch, Dan- soon as that nitwit De Leon of plastic gun fame started publicly fawning over Steinberg my BS flag went up.

Yee is toast, but he still deserves his day in court, and I think its pretty revealing that all the SF and Sacramento dems are calling for him to resign, rather than take the leave of absence granted to the two other Dems under investigation, Calderon and Wright.

Last I heard, even Democrats were presumed innocent until proven guilty, and deserve their day in court (or a quiet deal with the AG, in exchange for stooging on the rest of the dirty pols…).

Granted “innocent” is a bit of a stretch here, but it kinda makes you wonder what the Dems fear the press will find if this stays on the public’s radar screen?

I’m mildy surprised the Chronicle is doing a good job on this-
      http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/A-closer-look-at-the-case-s-key-players-5352434.php

I’m actually more interested in the Keith Jackson and “Shrimp Boy” Chow connections to the San Fran elite, including Senator Feinstein and Mayor Ed Lee who lauded the Triad Dragonmaster as a rehabilitated citizen doing good deeds with at-risk youth…

The Mayor I can understand- SF politics is like Chicago, the same pathetic predictable clusterf*ck of race panderers, diversity cons, and all around nitwits, only weirder,

      but sheesh,

you’d think that DiFi as Chair of the United States Senate Intelligence Committee overseeing CIA, NSA, etc, would have better intel, or at least a savvy enough staff to avoid that kind of rookie mistake…

I think the old gal is slipping some gears, frankly.

  8. How cool would it be if his “Arms Dealer Connection” was Sen. Dianne Feinstein. What a story could be made here!!

      • No, I dont think either Pelosi or DiFi is not hurting for money
        – both husbands have made quite a bit of money- DiFi’s husband got the no bid contract for the high speed rail construction, and I would be very surprised they have to scrabble around trading influence for as little as $5000 here or $10,000 there.

No, the trail lies in the connections from overseas via SF and Sacramento to who is pulling strings and giving the REALLY big money higher up in the Dem Party, nationally.

        • I’m thinking the bundlers for SF money to the 2012 election, who were rewarded in various ways, and made promises to overseas donors, via hustlers like Jackson and Chow.

        • I am dying to send you something on email, I have been chasing you all over the board today.

Let me know if you can/are willing to email me.

  9. With how often politicians of either side get caught doing horribly illegal and/or immoral activities I don’t know how it can shock anyone at this point. It seems that any position of authority (politicians, police, etc) attracts some of the most morally corrupt individuals possible

I would say that there should be an application process, followed by a few years of mental health checks and personality checks to do anything of the sort, but they would just bribe their way through anyway.

    • Did you find anything further on that claim? All I saw was the statement “Anti-gun lawmaker claims he was framed by the NRA” as the last line of the “Breaking News” announcement. No mention of it anywhere else.

    • It might be more effective to start asking why we are not investigating all of the highest profile Congressman in the anti gun movement for ties to illegitamate gun running.

There has to be a way to use this to go on offense, not defense. Defense is death, we will miss a great opportunity.

  10. “Shocked and sickened”? Where have I heard that before?

“I am shocked, SHOCKED to find that there is GAMBLING going on here!”
    “Your winnings, sir”
    “Oh, thank you very much.”

  11. He needs to be indicted on the RICO statute , this is conspiracy and will probably end up with other officials involved , I also believe that this is why they are distancing themselves and calling for Yee’s resignation , plus they don’t want the stigma of an anti-gunner that is trying to disarm the law abiding involved in worse behavior and trying to make a profit from pushing laws that would make him more money in his criminal pursuits . This looks like it could play in the same vein as a lot of the criminal mayor buddies of Bloomberg . I bet that a lot of the antigun politicians in Kalifornia are covering all of their shady dealings hand over fist , running scared ! Be prepared and ready. Keep your powder dry .

  12. Yee has to resign , but Wright, who has been convicted of felonious charges already is on paid leave, despite it being illegal for him to hold office. And Calderon can stay in office while facing felony corruption charge.

    Hmm….

  13. ABC news is running a story with the line “Yee Indicted on Weapons charges, was gun control crusader.”

I was shocked they didn’t bury that fact.

    • I know its crazy, but I would not be surprised to see some complete nitwit prog-tard gun-grabber group member find a mental leap of logic to somehow justify making Yee a hero… Evolve? MDA? ARS? Ladies, call your office…

  14. Calderon and Wright can stick around because there charges are not more than petty public corruption and perjury (same old story, different day). Yee, on the other hand, is a star in the gun banning movement in Sacramento, and his indictment for gun running will undermine the entire agenda. Therefore he must go.

  15. Other news sites are reporting that Yee was running guns to Islamic rebels in the Phillipines. Have no idea if this is true, but if it is, the guy was literally arming terrorists.

  16. ok – better question. I am wondering if any of the gun manufacturers have a potential civil suit now against Yee and the state of Commiefornia? Hmmmm. I may need to do some research on california law. they do allow some batshit crazy suits to proceed

  17. Holy cow … they released him on only $5,000 bail?!?!?!? I have $100 says he will leave the country never to be seen again.

    • That would make the story even more funny. Especially if he makes his break for it in a late model white Ford SUV.

  18. ANY california pol who has ever even THOUGHT about gun control needs to be tarred and feathered with this story.
AD; “how do we know (pols name) supports gun control for public safety? What if he is really just trying to leave you at the mercy of phillipino militants, like his buddy disgraced senator Leland Yee?”

  19. This guy probably never cared one way or another about people’s owning guns like AR-15s. He was just doing what a corrupt as hell politician will do, which is pander and say whatever needs to be said to get elected. If he had been running in a very pro-gun district, he’d probably be very pro-gun.

  20. Great pic for this post. Just need “Too-da-loo M*****F*****!” for the caption. It’s appropriate since Mr. Yee is leaving, you know.

  21. So where was the ATF during all this gun smuggling shenanigans?

Oh yeah they were raiding Ares Armory… at the insistence of one’s like the (not so) distinguish Mr. Lee.

Sad that it was the FBI that had to break this case.. i thought the “F” was for firearms?

  22. Why is the ATF not raiding his house, his neighbor’s home, and relatives, friends, and businesses he’s had contact with, etc? They’ve conducted raids with much less evidence or probably cause in the past.

  23. he had the perfect cover to sell guns illegally. as a anti-gun senator by day, who would have suspected him haha

  24. Anyone else interested in starting a legal defense fund for “Shrimp Boy”, assuming he is willing and able to legitimately (and publicly) name names of anti gun dems who he was involved with? (Here’s hoping DiFi is among them).

This way Obama’s mistress (Kamala H) won’t be able to cover the whole thing up.

Yea not likely, but would be a great way to smack the Cali democrits around a little and maybe weaken their position if only a small amount.
