Again, the only scandal bigger than how long it took to remove this feckless, self-impressed clown from his job is the number of lives that were lost as a result of his mismanagement and incompetence.

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

Gov. Ron DeSantis removed Broward Sheriff Scott Israel from office Friday, replacing him after 10 months of turmoil spawned by the slaughter of 17 staff and students in Parkland.

The governor replaced Israel with former Coral Springs Police Sgt. Gregory Tony, 40, who has a background in active-shooter training.and becomes the first black sheriff in Broward County’s history.

You can review our extensive posts covering former-Sheriff Israel’s part in the Parkland debacle here.

Again from the Sun-Sentinel:

Jeff Bell, head of the deputies’ International Union of Police Associations and a member of DeSantis’ transition team, had a more harsh assessment.

“He has turned this agency, the largest fully accredited sheriff’s office in the country, into a political machine for his own well-being,” Bell said. “He’s incompetent and should be removed permanently before anyone else is killed on his watch.”

If you can stomach it, here’s the full Parkland commission report.

    • Just remember, for CNN, this azzhole was the “good guy” on the “town hall” stage to criticize the evil “bad guy” NRA person (Dana)

That needs to be shoved into the face of CNN daily.

Even with all the help and advantages that CNN format gave him he still managed to put on national display the idiot that he was. SGovScott should have fired him within the week and it says a lot about Scott that he didn’t.

    • In fairness, Desantis was sworn in earlier this week. Rick Scott is the one to blame for the delay, and I hope he’s next on the block (in six years minimum, thanks to the lesser-of-two-evils crowd).

    • We’re talking about removing from important office a duly elected public official. That’s serious business, my friend, and not to be taken lightly or done hastily. Look at Florida’s new gun laws for proof of what sudden passion does for public policy.

It’s the people whose recklessness elected this clown in the first place.

It’s the people whose laziness never even attempted a recall.

It’s the people whose complacency promoted the freedom-infringing, incompetence-indulging Scott to the Senate, when they could have made this a campaign issue and forced him to take action.

We can thank Governor DeSantis and welcome his just action here without compromising our anti-corrupt/incompetent/inefficient government bona fides.

      • Broward County is a Democratic cesspool and our past Gov. Now full fledged RHINO of a senator will only get his 6 years and out.

        • It is part of a cesspool from Palm Beach to Dade County that is slowly gaining population and other than the older Cubans tends to vote Democrat. In a few more years the migrations from the north and the ex-felon voters will tilt the state blue.

      • Former Sheriff, are you that far disconnected with reality? The NRA can’t even control their own bowel movements, much less can they control the governor of Florida. Former Sheriff Israel permitted those who died at MSD to die in order to promote his anti 2nd Amendment agenda. It would not surprise me to find who lines his pockets.

      • Wow I made this comment as a joke “Wonder if he will blame the NRA for his termination??” and this guy actually has a news conference and goes on to blame the NRA as it is some conspiracy for why he was forced out.

You would think that if he had any self respect he would say “my presence has become a distraction and respectfully resign” Etc to save face. Instead he blames everyone except himself and takes no responsibility for his actions. This a clear cut example of why someone in his position should be fired.

        • Yep, blaming everyone else for one’s own problems is a trend now among Democrats, perfectly exemplified by Israel and Clinton.

  1. But the new Sheriff might want to arm and train school staff. Doing so is racist towards minorities, as proven with statistical data over many years.

    #blacklivesmatter

  2. Probably will still draw a LEO pension forever. Hope not. Should be a non-mechanical pop-up target as a retirement scheme.

  3. Your new Governor has not let me down. Same for Matt Bevin in Kentucky. California on the other hand…..

Will the state Sheriffs association run out and defend this piece of sh#t leader? I sure hope not.
Everyone needs to get a gun and get training because you can’t depend on any law enforcement.

    • Places like that make me wish they’d just split FL in two. Make I-4 the border and throw Pinellas to the southerners to sweeten the deal, maybe extend NFL to include all of Polk County. They get all the retirees and the Miami crowd, and the sane part of the state stops getting dragged by the ear into all their feelz-over-facts nonsense.

    • And vote him out of his new Senate seat. And purge all the RINOs from the state legislature. And ship all the rich elitist donors that enable them to Jersey. Maybe bribe Hammer to resign with a few more cats or something too.

  4. What did this sheriff do to make gun rights supporters want to see him go? I’m not too familiar with the details of what happened. I know the basics of the shooting but next to nothing about any of the background and follow-up stories. What was this sheriff’s role? Can anyone give me a short summary? Thanks!

    • In a nutshell the Sheriff mishandled a gazillion indicators that Cruz was a threat, swept stuff under the rug to pad school crime statistics in his favor , and his deputies hid while the shooting was happening claiming that was how they were trained. Then the Sheriff congratulated himself on a job well done and blamed the whole thing on gun owners/gun laws.

  5. you can’t just remove a four star sherrif from office. they’ll need to court marshall him.
“look at my stars! look at them!”

      • Oh Hell ya. I’ll +1 that.
The fact that Florida took so long to get this ass clown out of any authoritative job short of Taco Wagon Commander just amazes me. I understand there are whoops n’ such but ….AAAHGGHHG!!

  6. Has Israel sued to get his job back yet? He knew this was coming, so he should be ready to sue by now, and to seek an injunction allowing him to retain his office until the trial (and the inevitable time consuming appeals). (On the other hand, his threats may be simply to sweeten his retirement fund. I certainly wouldn’t put it past this self-aggrandizing bastard.)

  7. The thing that is so stupid about this is that if Israel had a different response to the situation he’d probably still have a job. Had his response been “Oh, man we screwed up. We’re reviewing things, implementing different training, firing and reprimanding some folks…” a lot of people would have been much more forgiving.

I guess his response was a symptom of his own stupidity so he’s probably not bright enough to realize how he could have saved his own ass and not made himself hated/unemployable for the rest of his life.

  8. Sherrif is an elected office the governor can only sue. Governors cannot remove or suspend.

This is fake, the site is fake

    • Florida law allows the governor to suspend elected officials for four potential reasons: neglect of duty, criminal activity, malfeasance or incompetence.

    • In my area only the Coroner can arrest the sheriff, but I’m sure the Governor has some type of authority as well.

    • The governor has the power to suspend public officials for malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony. Do you disagree with the commissions report, because it clearly checks several boxes.

    • What a dimbulb. Do you read the damn NEWS? You are not only dead wrong, you are also both arrogantly nasty about it and self important in your oh-so-valuable advice to ignorant us! You have proven yourself a useless jackass.

  9. …and becomes the first black sheriff in Broward County’s history.

No way I’m the only one here waiting to see what Gov. William J. Le Petomane has to say about that.

  10. Is this nice? maybe it’s not, But when I read a Black Sheriff coming to Boward Co. I thought of Mel Brooks “Blazing Saddles,” Not the steerking badges part. Also I’m laughing because in my sick mind I was thinking it would be neat if X Sheriff Israel flipped out and assassinated D Hogg

    • The proof gun owners are the most tolerant, law-abiding people around is that people like Hogg are still walking around. In the crazy fantasy world people like Hogg live in, they would have been takenb out long ago.

    • “What did he say?”

“I think he said the Sheriff is near.”

      “NO! I SAID ‘THE SHERIFF’S A….'”

You couldn’t make that movie today. Such a classic.

      • Mel Brooks admitted in an interview that most of his classic movies could not be made in today’s politically correct climate.

  11. All anyone needs to know about Rick Scott is that he appointed Angela Corey. Does anyone not believe her marching orders were to put George Zimmerman on trial without regard to the evidence? What they didn’t expect was that he would have better legal representation than he could afford. His lawyers shredded the prosecution’s case and validated the police department’s decision not to charge him.

  12. While this is welcome news, I cannot understand why it has taken this long for this malfeasant sheriff to be removed.

  13. This was one of the new governor’s campaign promises. Nice to see a politician keep campaign promises so soon after being sworn in.
Scott tried something similar going out, but only after the damage was done by Brenda Snipes, too little too late.
I would have gladly traded Nelson for Scott in exchange for Matt Caldwell over Nikki Fried any day.

  14. I mean this in the meanest possible way, gun control is politicians like him being too incompetent and/or corrupt to do their jobs correctly.

  15. I’m wondering by what rule of law can the FL Governor replace an elected Sheriff ? While I agree the guy needs to go, IMO per my reading of our constitution , that’s the duty and responsibility of Broward County citizens .

  16. If gillum was governor, isreal would’ve been given a free pass to continue his corrupt activities.

    God riddence to this reprobate.

Wonder if there is going to be punishment for those in the FBI, Florida social services and the Broward school board for doing absolutely nothing about stopping Cruz despite having the resources to do so.

    • He’s one of the first LE people I’ve EVER heard of getting any sort of a real punishment for fucking up during a mass shooting. I mean, The Pulse report gave themslves a pat on a back (plus probably something far more lewd) after they let dozens bleed out.

  17. Here’s something……. why the f@&$ck didn’t the uber driver dip shit call the PD
after he dropped off the shooter at the school with the rifle bag.
Florida…. where the ages, the temperatures, and the IQs are all in the 80s.
If you want to blame someone, let’s include the very beginning, with the source.
The iber driver. Or maybe I missed this point.
By the way, David Hogg, skipped school that day. Just sayin.

  18. Children and staff died on his watch because of the cowards that worked for him. I see that he totally played the victim in his response to being removed. He belongs in a garbage can.

  19. Bravo!!! good job getting rid of this incompetent idiot. Now get rid of all the cowardly officers in the dept who responded and hid instead of engaging the shooter. Examples should be made of all.
