A “Budget Friendly EDC” from over at Everyday Carry.  He carries a Springfield Armory XDs-9 Mod.2.  If the single stack Mod.2 handles recoil as mildly as the double-stack Mod.2, it’s a great choice.

Also of note, he carries an Olight Valkyrie 600-lumen weaponlight attached.  Frankly, I don’t see a lot of civilians carrying with weapon lights attached.  Frankly, even cops with permanently mounted weapons lights are few and far between in my neck of the woods.

Do you carry with a weapon light attached?

  1. WML on my bedside gun but not on any carry gun.

This is a pretty nice budget EDC. I don’t know much about the lights but the gun and knife are both decent. Fisher pens are cool too.

    • So do you only carry during the day? No need for a carry WML? TLR1 on a strobe setting is a pretty strong deterrent for people or animals.

  2. I had a hard enough time finding a holster for my M&P with integral laser. Can’t see myself carrying a light on anything but the most common handguns after that.

  3. Like Strych9, light on nightstand pistol, but not on carry. Surefire clipped to left front pants pocket though.

  4. 600 lumens? That’s a hella lot of illumination, especially on a handgun likely to be employed at shorter distances and perhaps inside a room.

  5. I have the Streamlight TLR6 on my carry Shield. I have a Olight pl-mini on one my HD guns, Glock 19. With how new the pl-mini 2 is, I doubt the owner of this pocket dump has a holster yet asumming he goes with a kydex holster. Maybe the spare mag was left out? This is a very realistic EDC, good job!

  6. An XDs Mod 2 9mm isn’t a “budget” gun. Current low street price is about $400 I believe. I’d consider a budget gun under $300. There’s plenty of options under that and even closer to $200 I’d consider “budget”.

    • Exactly. It is not fair to say that an average priced gun is a budget gun. Until I see a post of someone’s carry being a 250$ new gun or less it isn’t budget. I would like to see a few Tauruses, SCCYs, or KelTecs. That is budget.

      • Maybe for Gen 1 XDs. The XDs mod 2 without night sights is $448 right now on Bud’s. Far from a “budget” gun. I do agree the the Gen 1 XDs can be found for around $350 on sale. But that’s about the lowest I think I’ve seen.

  7. I have a weapon mounted light, streamlight tlr-1, mounted on my G22 duty weapon. But I don’t bother with a light on my off duty weapon, a G26.

  8. Weapon lights are useful on OFFENSIVE firearms. They’re good for cops and entry teams, as they’re clearing rooms and such.

But on a carry pistol? Seems like adding unnecessary bulk and weight.

  9. Civilians? Really? Thin blue line flag equals police. Police are civilians!!! They are not subject to the UCMJ.

    • Well, because of qualified immunity and plain old corruption, they sure don’t get held to the same legal standard the rest of us do. Maybe we need a third term?

  10. Black Rhino Concealment make holsters for the XDs mod 2 with the Pl mini 2. They also make holsters for CZ pistols. Good holsters for CZ pistols can be hard to find.

  11. I do when I can (aka have a holster fitted for one). Currently that’s a Beretta M9a1 with a streamliht tlr1. Nightstand gun is a CZ sp01 tactical with my ghost 45m and the same streamlight, I also carried a standard sp01 with a light. If I had my way I’d have light fitted holsters for all of my handguns, but since that isn’t practical I pick the ones well suited for it (generally full size handguns). Since I carry a streamlight protac 2lx everywhere in my pocket I don’t mind having a weapon mounted light as much as I used too.
