Press release . . .

Brownells will give away a barrel full of freedom during the biggest pro football Sunday of the year with its Super Barrel II Weekend extravaganza.

One lucky Brownells fan will bring home the championship-worthy trophy of a barrel full of 13,889 rounds of 5.56mm NATO Hornady Frontier 55-grain M193 ammo.

Starting at 12:01 AM Saturday, February 1, and going through 11:59 PM Sunday, February 2, Super Barrel II contestants can sign up for their chance to win at the Brownells Super Barrel II page.

One lucky winner will be drawn by random and will receive the big red barrel full of ‘Merica valued at $4,239.99.

Containing enough ammo to fill almost 70 standard-length belts for an M249, the barrel weighs more than all but the very biggest football linemen. If all 13,889 cartridges contained inside were laid to end-to-end, they would stretch over 870 yards — almost twice as far as the most passing yards ever in a modern pro football championship game.

To sign up to win the Super Barrel II barrel full of ammo, and to see other amazing products, visit www.brownells.com.

  1. Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run
Zing boom tararrel, ring out a song of good cheer
Now’s the time to roll the barrel, for the gang’s all here

  2. Thanks for nothing Brownells, not legal in Ca. You as a company can ship ammo here, needs to go to a ffl, not our home. Appears there’s no reason to spend my money with you guys.

    • It’s perfectly legal to have ammo shipped to you in CA if you get a Certificate of Eligibility (which basically says you pass a NICS check, normally used for people working at gun shops but not limited to them) and a C&R FFL from the feds. It’s explicitly written into the law that people with both pieces of magical paper are exempt from the “no direct online sales” law so long as they’re ordering from out of state vendors.

It cost me about $150 the first year, and about $25 a year after to renew it. I’ve already saved more money compared to the fees at the local gun shop to make it worth my while.

You also are then exempt from the “no buying ammo in other states and bringing it back” restriction.

Additional plus: unlike the normal retail sales channels that require ammo registration with the state, the online approach has no such requirement.

Don’t get me wrong, the whole law restricting ammo is absurd, but so long as they provide a legal means of bypassing it, you’d be a fool not to take advantage.

        Just saying here

if you found this bypass and its good for all, a suggestion?
Send a step by step description to the webpage team and have a full blown story or lesson made form your great experience!

because passing this knowledge on is the best revenge!

        thanks

        • Good idea. It’s pretty simple though:

          1. Get a CoE: https://www.oag.ca.gov/firearms/cert-eligibility
          2. Get a C&R FFL: https://www.atf.gov/file/61506/download (note that much of the form, such as photos and fingerprints, are not required for C&R FFLs. Remember to mail a copy to your local chief of police; they don’t need to do anything with it and will probably toss it in the trash. It’s required that you notify them, though.)
          3. Wait until you get the CoE and C&R. Mine took a few weeks.
          4. Send a copy to your online ammo vendor.
          5. Buy ammo.

See https://www.arizonarifleman.com/2018/03/09/some-good-news-about-california-ammo-laws/ for links to the specific laws.

Regarding #4, not all vendors are willing to accept CA paperwork since CA often changes its laws and its expensive for them to make sure they’re properly following the rules. Ammoman and Lucky Gunner, for example, stopped accepting CA paperwork a while back. Others, like TargetSportsUSA, have a place to upload the paperwork when you place your order, after which they associate it with your account for as long as the paperwork is valid. I’ve ordered something like 10k of .22LR and about 4k of 5.56mm NATO from them with no hassle.

    • So they ship it to your FFL. Why is that a problem? Mine lives around the corner from my house, and I’d bet for a 500 rounds he’d do the transfer for free.

  3. I have t wonder –

Considering the sheer weight of that much gun food, can the ammo on the bottom of the barrel be damaged by it?

    • No, but a forklift would be a good idea. I’ve seen these barrels at the retail store and actually headed there now. I teach one day per week at the college in Grinnell. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY left.

Too bad they won’t have an ad at the game. On the other hand, I won’t be watching.

  4. From the page:

“The Sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States but excluding New York, Florida, District of Columbia, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts (void in Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii all U.S. territories and possessions and all overseas military installations) who are at least 21years of age on the date of the Sweepstakes entry submission…”

Can someone explain why folks in Florida are not eligible? It’s perfectly legal here to have ammo shipped direct to your front door…

      • You don’t have to shoot the ammo yourself. If you don’t own any gun that shoots 5.56 (BLASPHEMY!) and not even over 4 grand worth of free ammo can convince you to get one, you can still sell the barrel. Then you can use the money to buy whatever ammo you do like. Or anything else.
It’s like passing on a free car because you don’t like the color.

    • Geoff, you’re exactly right. I’ve had tens of thousands of rounds delivered to my door. Especially when I was shooting competition.

    • Damn! Californians are barred?!? That really sucks. There really isn’t any reason for it, it is no different than winning a gun, have the stuff shipped to an ffl and GTG. Maybe I will enter my daughter, she lives in a free state. (Well, maybe not. She’d make me buy her a rifle to go with it.)

    • Yeah I’d like to know as well. I also live in Florida and only buy ammo online. It ships directly to my door and have been doing this for years. Thousands and thousands of rounds.

  5. I’ll enter, but I won’t win. Be a one in a million deal at best.

If you win and are worried about moving the thing around, just go buy a barrel dollie. Try Grainger’s, McMaster-Carr, any local industrial supply outfit. Most hold a 1,000 pounds.

  6. I heard it said that a AR Assault weapony thingy could use all those clips in the bucket of magazines in less than a minute. Faster if you had one of those thingys that goes up with the chainsaw bayonet. You could kill like a whole city in a town of people a couple of times. The whole NATO description shows they are military spec and can’t be used unless in a military Infantry assaulter rifle. The horror if one of things got out of the bucket and found a black rifle to jump into. I mean we would all die and the orange man is at fault.

    • The fastest trigger finger on earth would take quite a while to fire that many rounds, the average Joe Blow could maybe go through it in a few hours IF they pre-loaded hundreds of magazines (thousands of 10 round mags in commiefornia, NY or other stupid states. The Servicemen in Vietnam typically wore 2 bandoliers with 7 mags in each (20 rounds each) and we were in awesome condition!

  7. Still works out to about .30 per round. Not a bad price. Not a great price. Excellent price if you win the drawing, though.

  8. It’s a great idea but unfortunately I will not be watching the game. Used to see the league as something I could have or not have in my life. Could watch and put money into, or not. Either way was ok. At this point though, I’ve become disgusted by the league that I want nothing to do with any of it. I have better things to put my time and money to. Brownells is great company and barrels of ammo would be fantastic. It will just have to go to someone else.

  9. I can understand why Alaska isn’t part of the drawing. It would be outrageously expensive to ship that barrel up here. That’s OK Like my gun laws here.
