mm-gunsMichael Moore is one of the most outspoken opponents of gun rights in the world. He believes that Americans are “gun-crazed killers,” for example. But just moments ago, Michael Moore seems to have finally realized the point of the Second Amendment. In the aftermath of the rash of high-profile “excessive force” cases against police officers, Moore has tweeted a series of demands on how to improve the situation. His second proposal (the irony is not lost here) is that the Second Amendment will protect us if we disarm the police. Has Moore finally seen the light, and come to understand that guns save lives and protect Americans? Or is he just choosing the lesser of two perceived evils? We’ll have to wait and see how quickly he returns to his “disarm all the citizens” norm.

      • Michael Moore is not qualified to be a smart ass. By definition one would have to be “smart”. He is an idiot. All of his films are thinly disguised propaganda. Don’t know why anyone listens to or believes his rants.

        • If he’s not a smart ass, then by definition he must be a dumb ass, right? Because there’s absolutely no doubt that he’s an ass.

    • Moore is a professional troll. I wish people would just stop paying attention to him so he would go away.

    • I cannot fathom how one man ( not a politician, no real knowledge of the politics nor military ) can make spoof films distorting others words. After I was done with basic in 99 I was offered a Option 40 contract. At the time it was R.I.P. Where you pass R.I.P. And get thrown straight into a Batt. where you sit and pray for the next cherry to come in. Luckily after three weeks of 12 mile marches, my Sergeants telling me to go into another companies area to ask for batteries I was clothes lined. It’s

    • Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I think Nick needs to get his sarcasm detector recalibrated. Moore’s tweet is just oozing with the stuff.

      • I picked up on the sarcasm immediately because, not that it needs to be pointed out, Michael Moore sucks at satire just as hard as he sucks at every single other thing he does.

        • oh I don’t know, I think he’d give Joey Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi quite the run.

    • Snide jab? Sarcasm? Perhaps. And yet he has managed to communicate great wisdom, however unintentional.

  1. I have to assume he is trolling, however if he is serious this is an unprecedented victory for us. He is the freaking liberal Jesus incarnate. If we win him we have earned a huge trophy.

    • Yeah, for F***s sake that dude smells bad. Really bad. Like burnt rubber and rotten Chinese food bad. We don’t want him anywhere near one of us.

    • You know, even if he is trying to be snarky as Another Robert suggested above (and I concur), I cannot help but wonder if this prods some people to thinking in our direction.

We know one thing for sure: there are a fair number of people on both sides of the gun rights debate that are converging on illegal police behavior. I wonder what opportunity, if any, this presents?

      • Yes, I’m kind of wondering the same thing. I’m sure the lefty “leaders” will figure out some way to avoid what looks to us like the inevitable logic–mental consistency has never been a strong point of the left.

  2. Let’s see, we have the guns, the police don’t. Moore won’t have a gun. Now, where did you say he lives?

I’m thinking of the saying a conservative is a liberal that was … You know.

        • Butterfield Example (from the link): “Despite the unusually high number people shot in burglary attempts, residential burglaries have gone down 28 percent compared to last year in the period between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30.” This and the others like it in the article referenced are examples of totally idiotic statements IMO. Hard to believe that reporters actually get paid to write this drivel.

  3. I mean, hey, if you’re gonna recommend jumping the shark as a back handed attack, be my guest. But if it backfires on you and ends up working, better suck it up and deal with the hand you dealt out.

  4. Protecting the home/family against civil lawlessness (sans police) is a good argument for gun ownership, but it’s not ‘the point of the Second Amendment.’

      • In the 70’s I had a digital alarm clock (digital-mechanical) that when broken was still right twice a day.

And the sound of the numbers flipping once a min. was quite distinct even when surroundings were quiet.

        • I had one of those clocks, too. Loved that thing. The soft click-clack every 60 seconds was somehow not annoying, though it seems like it should have been. The rollover to 10:00, flipping all four digits, was a racket, though.

      • If it blinks 12:00 at 12:00, then it’s right once per day. (Twice for those weirdos who think the hours reset in the early afternoon).

  5. Assuming he’s serious:

Note that he said the 2A will work until we hire the right cops.

After that point, he’ll go back to wanting confiscation.

    • I’d agree to those terms. I’ll hold on to mine until the police force consists entirely of good people. When this utopia is realized, in the year infinity, we won’t need them anymore.

  6. “Has Moore finally seen the light, and come to understand that guns save lives and protect Americans? Or is he just choosing the lesser of two perceived evils?”

The 2A is precisely about balancing the lesser of two evils: armed government employees (including some knuckleheads) trying to protect a disarmed populace, vs allowing everyone (including some knuckleheads) to own guns. The problems that arise when when the armed knuckleheads are government employees are generally worse than just allowing everyone to own guns, because 99% of people use them wisely. Tyrrany comes in many forms, including unaccountable government employees called police who use excessive force.

Glad he’s finally coming around. I still hate him, of course.

    • The problems that arise when when the armed knuckleheads are government employees are generally worse than just allowing everyone to own guns, because 99% of people use them wisely.
The more I see of our endless pointless wars and Orwellian Police State, the more I think that is a very valid statement.
I think most private citizens are much more responsible than the highly trained government “operators”.

    • Pretty sure he hasn’t come around. He’s just so wrong that he came full circle and walked backwards right into the truth (which of course he doesn’t recognize). Still, it’s a nice change to see him say something that almost makes sense, even if he didn’t intend it.

    • Hear hear! Now, I think I’m going to the emergency room. Having heart pain, probably because I just agreed with something Moore said. I might be ok though, as likely I don’t agree with the cut of his gibe.

  7. His second proposal (the irony is not lost here) is that the Second Amendment will protect us if we disarm the police. Has Moore finally seen the light, and come to understand that guns save lives and protect Americans?
I know this was a sarcastic post, but actually the intent of the 2A was not that far removed from this statement. Gun Safety in the colonies was comprised of citizen militias being armed and ready to repel attacks. Lexington and Concord were actually very good examples of English military efforts to defang these militias.
I think these numerous standing high speed low drag operators of the military and police industrial complex are becoming more of a danger to society than an asset. A large military and police in peace time is really a liability, not an asset.

  8. Michael Moore said American snipers were cowardly murderers, and suggested that if he had been in Iraq he would have been cheering on insurgents to kill American soldiers. He literally called US troops “invaders” who are “worse than cowards” and said that the Taliban, Mahdi Army, Republican Guard, etc. were brave neighbors defending their homes.

Also see these quotations, from David Brooks New York Times article “All Hail Moore”, June 26, 2004:

Like Hemingway, Moore does his boldest thinking while abroad. For example, it was during an interview with the British paper The Mirror that Moore unfurled what is perhaps the central insight of his oeuvre, that Americans are kind of crappy.

“They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet . . . in thrall to conniving, thieving smug [pieces of the human anatomy],” Moore intoned. “We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We don’t know about anything that’s happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing.”

Before a delighted Cambridge crowd, Moore reflected on the tragedy of human existence: “You’re stuck with being connected to this country of mine, which is known for bringing sadness and misery to places around the globe.” In Liverpool, he paused to contemplate the epicenters of evil in the modern world: “It’s all part of the same ball of wax, right? The oil companies, Israel, Halliburton. We, the United States of America, are culpable in committing so many acts of terror and bloodshed that we had better get a clue about the culture of violence in which we have been active participants…Don’t be like us,” he told a crowd in Berlin. “You’ve got to stand up, right? You’ve got to be brave.” In an open letter to the German people in Die Zeit, Moore asked, “Should such an ignorant people lead the world?”

In an interview with a Japanese newspaper, Moore helped citizens of that country understand why the United States went to war in Iraq: “The motivation for war is simple. The U.S. government started the war with Iraq in order to make it easy for U.S. corporations to do business in other countries. They intend to use cheap labor in those countries, which will make Americans rich.” But venality doesn’t come up when he writes about those who are killing Americans in Iraq: “The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not `insurgents’ or `terrorists’ or `The Enemy.’ They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow, and they will win.” Until then, few social observers had made the connection between Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Paul Revere.”

One of Michael Moore’s major flaws is that he’s too stupid to recognize that he’s exactly the kind of “stupid, ignorant person” he rails against. Whenever I think of Michael Moore as an educator, I think of his one-line history of 9/11 from his propaganda film Bowling for Columbine, winner of Hollywood’s highest honor for documentary films, the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature:

September 11th, 2001: Osama bin Laden uses his expert C.I.A. training to murder 3,000 people.”

New York Times critic A.O. Scott commented in his review of the film: “The idiocy of this statement is hardly worth engaging; it is exactly the kind of glib distortion of history that can be taken as a warrant to dismiss everything Mr. Moore has to say.”

Truly. Michael Moore does not patriotically criticize America’s flaws, as he perceives them, in an attempt to improve our nation. He promotes vitriolic hatred. Words like “terrorist sympathizer” and “America-hater” are almost never justly applied to Americans. Michael Moore is an exception. He has provided weighty justification to consider him no longer a fellow countryman, but a traitor. He delights in seeing the failure and destruction of America if it promotes his objectives. He hates those who believe in the fundamental American values that our nation was founded in part to protect which he disagrees with. He doesn’t disagree with us, he hates us and speaks of us as a subhuman intellectual underclass to be conquered and forced to live under his rules. For our own betterment as well as his and his followers, because animals like us with the wrong political opinions cannot take care of ourselves. Our freedom is dangerous. Even if we are highly moral and would never harm another human being except in defense of life and liberty. Because to him and those like him, a person who but desires simply the capacity to resist authority is a dangerous probable future criminal.

For more criticism of Michael Moore, see also Christopher Hitchen’s much-needed rebuttal of Moore’s 2004 propaganda film Fahrenheit 9/11 (winner of the Cannes Film Festival’s highest honor, the Palme d’Or).

  9. Michael Moore continues to exist in the media by creating controversy. He will say whatever he thinks will cause the biggest shitstorm. We only grant him legitimacy by repeating, let alone discussing, the drivel that he spouts.

    • No big surprise there. Funny, that…

I wonder if he’s ever had his door kicked by a multiple assailant crew intent on causing bodily harm? Somehow, I doubt it, & further my supposition is that the dough boy couldn’t even adequately defend himself against one untrained person hand to hand. Yet, he doesn’t realize the hypocrisy of calling other people cowards. Sad little nazi he is (No, I know. I simply refuse to capitalize the word nazi).

Say Michael, how much fighting experience do YOU have under your belt anyway? No, we’re not speaking of fighting the urge to eat like a glutton, a battle which you quite obviously also fail at.

  10. My sarcasm detector is going off. Loudly.

He’s never been anything more than a grossly arrogant, willfully pig ignorant, and blithely hypocritical malicious troll.

  11. Wait, did he just admit to being a gun owner? “WE have a 1/4 billion 2nd amendment guns in OUR homes…” I think they take your Communist Douche card for admitting to that sort of thing.

  12. Keep moving, nothing to see here. Just an attention junkie desperately trying to remain in the spotlight and relevant.

  13. This clown’s fifteen minutes were up several years ago. I’m not wasting any more seconds on his tweets, except to note he’s just another example of how far our national culture has fallen, due to the thought nazi mindset of the Left. .

  14. This quote pops into my head, when reminded of pundits like this…

“I am a mad dog howling at the moon, biting myself for sympathy”

I saw it as graffitti, decades ago…
Seems like it should have come from a sixties drug addled Beat poet, or Stones lyrics….anyone know?

  15. Perhaps he is trying to maintain relevance by re-inventing himself and building anti-establishment credentials? After all, he had other pet issues he made films about before that one about Columbine.

  16. I totally agree. If anything, the police are protecting the rioters from armed citizens. It’s one thing to throw rocks at riot police armed with batons and shields. It’s a whole different ball game when Roof Koreans and Gadsden flag guys get free reign.

  17. He must be trolling but I really don’t see how his attempt at satire works. Maybe it doesn’t and he just sucks at it…

  18. Ok… and who is the one to decide who the ‘right cops’ are to hire?

I bet none of us will like the kind of police Michael Moore hires.

  19. Maybe he’s being serious…
Of course, thanks to people like him, there aren’t many civilian owned guns in the areas with the highest crime rates. So things aren’t likely to work out.

A dislike for the abusive police state he’s encouraged leads him to make a threat that goes against his own gun control principles. In short, another confused anti-gun.

  20. This so called guy is a total ass hole, He knows NOTHING and should keep his big mouth SHUT. He’s NOTHING more then a WORTHLESS piece of shit.Guess some people will say & do anything just to make news, BUT then with him that’s the only way he gets noticed .Bet you this much if he needed the police to protect his ass he would want them armed.

  21. Aside from the obvious about Moore, which these posts extensively cover, there is a very subtile point that I think has been missing in the thinking here. Disarming the citizens is one level of enabling tyranny. We all get that. Disarming the local police, is the next level. Why? Because in our great country, the local police are “local.” They live in the communities they serve. As such, they are less inclined to respond to the dictates of a tyrannical leader who turns against the will of the people. They could, in fact, be an impediment in exerting power over the population. Solution: Disarm the local police and leave the real force (guns) up to the federal police. Please don’t forget that after Ferguson, the current federal regime, suggested that perhaps it was not such a good idea to have the local police have these heavily armored vehicles on wheels in the control of the local police and that they should be reserved for the federal police. One of the biggest challenges a tyrannical regime has with our current military is that many of the leaders within the ranks were not from families of the political elite. These were men and women who joined from families of the middle class in the heartland who typically do not share much of the ideology of the political elite. They are more grounded in the principles of the Constitution which they swore to defend than the whims of the political winds and leadership of the year. So Moore’s suggestion could very well be an extension of his socialist worldview of a strong and forceful central government. What Michael forgets are the lessons of history in this regard. So often, socialist movements end up eating their young. I pray that our constitution survives the Michael Moores and the socialists of the world. It could get real dark otherwise. Over the last 100 years, 100+ million have paid the price with their lives of such thinking.

  22. This must be Moore’s attempt to flex his intellectual muscles on public safety policy via social media- epic fail dude.

  23. I’m sure his intent’s sarcasm, but the words he’s saying aren’t wrong. We’ll do just fine without the cops.

  24. I serve my country for 12 years. Michael Moore made a documentary called Fahrenheit 9/11, and people flock to the movie theaters to watch it. Michael Moore made a documentary called Fahrenheit 9/11, and people flock to the movie theaters to watch it. Here is my issue this man called Chris Kyle a coward. Navy SEALs who are snipers do not have a spotter. To become a sniper you have to prove yourself in combat. Navy SEALs who are snipers do not have a spotter. To become a sniper you have to prove yourself in combat. Not only do you have to watch over 20 something soldiers, you have to worry about the guy that comes out with an AK-47 and has a suicide bomb thay not only do you have to watch over 20 something soldiers, you have to worry about the guy that comes out with an AK-47, he also has a suicide vest on it can take down a building when he drops the trigger. On top of that you have a bounty on your head and have to operate without being compromised. If I ever met Michael Moore I would probably first Tell him he is a disgusting fat body and while I was protecting his First Amendment right he did nothing but lie Fahrenheit 9/11. He used Condaleeza Rice’s words but did not tell her whole story which made perfect sense. He put his soldiers on TV who had just been in combat and made dumb comments.Saddam was funding terrorism. Not only was he funding terrorism, he was holding a terrorist summit’s at the Rashid hotel. Why didn’t Michael Moore mention this? Who is he to call anyone a coward? He is never fought for anything and the movies made b why didn’t Michael Moore mention this? Who is he to call anyone a coward? He is never fought for anything by him have then been 60% bullshit if not more. After calling him a disgusting fat body I would probably knock the shit out of him. Why did the Nazis not invade Switzerland? Because there were one of the only European countries that have the right to bear arms like the United States. Obama taking the Guns away from people will not stop this. Using the ATF to ban the M855 ammo out of k away from people will not stop this. Using the ATF to ban no wherewas a way to start taking away peoples firearms. Look at the statistics of crime in Chicago versus Houston. The victims are always inno was a way to start taking away peoples firearms. Look at the statistics of crime in Chicago versus Houston. And Chicago you’re not allowed to own a gun but the most gang members in the United States reside there and hurt, rob, and kill people living their day to day lives. If you look at Houston they have the right to bear arms and carry a weapon concealed. while I am sure innocent people who do not carry guns in Houston get while I am sure innocent people who do not carry guns in Houston get robbed it is around 95% less then Chicago. Imagine that!!!! Also, after The Brady Bill went out of law there has been less crime. The only difference now is our media. If you get on YouTube you will see white men being gunned down by police just like you will see black men. Black man being killed has not changed. The media coverage of it has because it produces ratings. I swore to God in order to uphold The Constitution. I’ll be damn if A single gun I own is taken away from me. I gave 12 years of my life to the military. Therefore my words to Michael Moore are fuck you, and you are the coward. You cannot make a movie on truth so you distort it to make you millions and sit next to Bill Maher occasionally.Michael Moore is going to use himself and no wa Michael Moore is going to use himself In a Way that he thinks he is appealing to a black man who looks at him and laughs.
