I’m listening to the radio scanner right now for San Bernardino, and the local police department is currently in a high-speed chase with some suspects in an SUV matching the description of the suspects who fled the mass shooting earlier today. The chase reached speeds of 80 miles per hour, and reports indicate that the suspects were shooting at the police through the back window of the SUV. It ended on a residential street, and it looks like one suspect is down and another in the car with a further suspect detained alive who bailed out of the car during the chase. Live feed here. Another suspect who was reported to have escaped from the SUV is being sought in a nearby residential neighborhood.

      • Oh geez……the po-po fanboys are coming out of the woodwork….

        Nobody said it’s never needed, only that it shouldn’t be handed out to every podunk hamlet, shire and whistle-stop in the land, for use on every piddly warrant served or public nuisance.

        • I disagree, I think it is reasonable that this kind of equipment to be available to any law enforcement agency regardless of population size. Yes this kind of crime is usually concentrated in large metro areas but that doesn’t mean those cursed with living in “podunk” towns should have to accept their primary first responders being under gunned if something terrible happened.

          Now, before I get called a po-po fanboy, let me clarify that what should happen (as noted above by others) is that there needs to be more accountability and a more clearly defined rule set around when and how the equipment gets used with penalties for breaching them.

          Live victim in imminent danger = go in with armor.
          Pot plant growing on window sill -no victim or imminent danger = no go in with armor, find another way.

          As for your asinine “Max power everywhere all the time” approach, well, that’s just stupid. It’s absurd and foolish to treat every risk identically, whether by probability of occurring, of detection, and/or of severity. Your view would have us deploy an entire Army division to guard a cornfield in Nebraska as readily as we would a contingent guard D.C. It’s a gross imbalance between threat and response. Likewise, kitting up every small suburb with MRAPs and the like is a wasteful deployment of resources.

          You can come at this topic from a myriad professional disciplines: economics, business administrations, operations research, statistics, law enforcement, engineering, you name it. Each will result in the same answer that different situations score different risk profiles and necessitate different countermeasures. That you take such a hostile tone over such a rudimentary principle bespeaks a vinegarish and staggering ignorance.

    • Watching it on CNN because FOX was not even talking about this. The idiot Tom Fuentes is pissing me off with all the stupid shit he is saying. He said “Everybody is concerned about police militarization, but now you see why we need it with so many assault weapons in the public hands with armor piercing rounds.”
      My wife told me to stop watching it because I am getting so mad.
      Another fucked up thing he said was “Sometimes they just blow up the vehicle that may contain an explosive device” What!? Yeah and destroy as much evidence in the process. What a moron!

      • Could be worse, you could be watching it on Univision where they are lecturing Americans about how such easy access to guns leads to this kind of thing, and that it is incomprehensible how we cant figure out how to do something about it.

    • It still does. I’d rather have sporadic mass shootings than SWAT team breaching people’s doors for prank calls. Cops are not meant to be like this. It’s a police service, not a police force. But at the end of the day, it’s not the guns, but the people. It’s the militarized training the cops are receiving these days that is threatening our lives. But cops still don’t need AFVs, no apologies. Officer safety? Well, how about taxpayer safety? Don’t wanna be on the mission without armored vehicles and NOD when responding to a call? Quit the job, no one’s begging them. SWAT teams should only be available on the city level, and deployed only in situations like this. There is no need for SWAT team at every PD, they’re chalk line drawers anyway, unless the incident is protracted like this one.

      Only in the context of noone else being allowed to have any equipment. the correct, and cheap, way of dealing with three guys/gals trying to shoot up 30, is for the 30 to shoot back. Not to disarm the 30, only to rob them of all they’ve ever made to buy missile batteries for the 30-minute late crew.

      I’m not saying it’s not appropriate for cops to have heavier weapons. There are limits to how prepared to defend oneself one can expect everyone to be, and commuting in an Mrap dressed in level 4 armor “just in case”, is probably above that limit for most people.

      But the response to an attack must always start with those most likely to be where the attack occurs. Which is, definitionally, those attacked. Until the general population is properly armed, using their helplessness as an excuse to further arm those who are already well equipped, is more likely to be a threat to the public, than an aid in those rare cases when even well armed citizens could use some.

    • Although I use that website frequently police and fire have encrypted channels to use during high risk situations like this.

        • I can only refer to how it works in my county. Anytime there is a barricaded subject or confidential info needs to be talked about the encrypted channels are used. I work in EMS/Fire and we have three different private channels to use and so does law enforcement.

      • They keep taking about calling each other back on cell phones. Occasionally someone will break in and just spell it all it out. Addresses, names, everything. Sounds like their just searching now. It’s quiet

  7. Did anybody notice the censorship of the helicopter video feed? When the video first came in, it looked like there was a body in the street, with a pool of blood coming from it, and a rifle a few feet away. Then the helicopter maneuvered itself and placed a small tree between its camera and the scene to block the view of the body, and rifle, laying on the road. WTF? Is that what passes for news coverage? Every goddamn day the media insults our intelligence with their liberal bullshit!

    • Seriously? Go to Liveleak if you get off on seeing someone’s brains splattered on the sidewalk. Some people have kids who are still awake during the evening news.

  8. Really hoping it isn’t just a handful of women delivering papers this time…CA police have been known to get a little trigger happy in these deals. Condolences for all victims involved, and may death come quickly to the perpetrators (but not too quickly). And may our glorious leaders on both sides of the aisle be thwarted in their inevitable attempts to exploit this event for political power.

  10. Two dead shooters, a third might be holed up in a nearby home.

    This doesn’t seem like run-of-the-mill terrorism to me. It seems more personal.

    • From the target perspective yes because it looks like a typical deranged, Disgruntle current or former employee but how did he convince his two buddies to help? This incident is a departure from the typical mass shooting pattern.

      • Was thinking along the same lines. The mentally ill usually work alone for fear that they are going to get found out. Other than the Columbine shooters it’s very rate to find two nut bags working together let alone 3+. These guys aren’t crazy but they have some sort of axe to grind. Whether its foreign or domestic, I think it’s pretty clear that it was terrorism.

      • Value is subjective. Someone looking for a soft target and huge horror factor may find very high value in a government building where they may hit disabled people.

        If this is terrorism then every school and day care in the country better take notice and prepare.

  12. What are the odds the surviving suspects are reported DOA at the police station?

    Or if alive, they are kept in-communicado and eventually disappear into the criminal justice system?

    I bet this is the incident a number of parties have been waiting for and drooling over.

  13. One disgruntled guy, sure. But he convinced two others to go in on it, and maintain total operational security while they planned it out? Sure, you could get three people together who feel the same about the issue, but once the plans became mere talk and started materializing into “Well, we’re gonna do this!”, one of parties involved would definitely have second thoughts and either back out, or rat his pals out.

    • Could be that the guy in the meeting was doing recon, then went back out and got the rest of the team. Maybe drug cartel targeting a couple of officials?

      • Not exactly the kind of demographic that does business with the cartels. If it was one specific person they were after then why take out the room? They could catch him alone.

        Let’s review the options again

        Disgruntle employee: He doesn’t need a team. He runs in with his Glock and shoots a bunch of people.

        Cartel: Already explained.

        Terrorists: Plausible tactics, implausible target.

        Did the hit team that couldn’t shoot straight hit the wrong location?

        • Maybe they hit the wrong place. Dumber things have happened. Or maybe they went to the right place, got spooked for whatever reason and then just hit the first easy target they found.

        • At this pont, nothing really makes sense. It won’t until LE gets everything sorted out. And writes the narrative they want us to believe.

        • Yup, that is a possibility. But, that one seems a bit odd as-well. If they were out of state (Utah), why would they pick, and how would they know about, as San Bernardino city employee Christmas party. Can’t rule it out, but there are just as many oddities with that theory as any of the others, definitely a strange pattern for the last several generations in the US.

        • Why “implausible”? A target- rich environment with victims incapable of fighting back. Sounds like as good a target as any for Islam.

          But since we are into wild ass speculation I will give you some more plausible wild ass speculation SOCAL probably has the largest population of Iranian expats in the country. What if one of the county officials was a thorn in the regime”s side? What if he was an FBI informant within the community and got compromised. This squares the circle of the personal, target location and the apparent professionalism of the hit team. MOIS, the Iranian intelligence service, has carried out many high profile hits on people it doesn’t like around the world. If Muslim names start popping up and there is a dead Iranian among the victims I will be going with hit in an anti-regime activist.

    • My hunch is there were four, not three, possibly resulting in confusion over “3 suspects, two dead, one in custody, one possibly holed-up in a church”. Why four? Three shooters and someone in the driver’s seat keeping the get-away vehicle running and ready to bolt.

    • Two most likely are terrorist or mafia/cartel hit. It seems like they targeted a conference room being used by city employees (not the medical facility employees or patients). Given that, I’m leaning towards mafia/cartel. Still, little weird reports floating around that makes it impossible to rule out terrorism, though if it was ISIS, they’s have already claimed responsibility, instead they’re just enjoying the show.

      • If it was ISIS why wouldn’t they have hit 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica? More visible, more people, more known. San Bernardino isn’t exactly on the map of most jihadis.

    • Because it’s the softest of soft targets. Guaranteed no one was carrying there.

      It’s why they didn’t shoot up a gun store or Boot Barn.

  15. My initial thought was cartel, but with pipe bombs i’m gonna go with jihadi. Social workers and the mentally disable make super soft targets. Most mh centers are gun fee zones.

  16. Terrorist-wise, what’s “high-value” about an indoor concert–except there are a lot of easy targets there? It would appear to be the same here. Your typical crazy operates alone, doesn’t have an escape plan, and kills himself when the cops show up. This doesn’t fit that pattern at all.

    • True, but then the odds of the attack coinciding with a one-off Christmas party in a rented conference room seem long where-as the concert hall was filled with regularly occurring events. Seems like if it was terrorists looking for a body count and they had a team of three, they would have waited for Star-Wars in two weeks and hit a gun-free-zone movie theater.

    • Because it was in Paris. They also attempted to his a soccer game that was well-protected.

      What is NOT part of a REAL terrorist MO is hitting nowheresville. Some radicalized locals may hit their own targets, but organized ones, even though SB is 200,000 people, isn’t a “known” target, like big cities. Look for coastal cities, major population centers of the state, historical cities. No San Bernardino, that’s silly- it doesn’t get the same press coverage.

    Its been my experience, with SoCal wildfires, power outages, etc
    After scanner freqs, (which may be hard to interpret lacking experience)
    that local AM radio stations provide best real time info for lay person, from listeners calling in, their own traffic helo updates, and the hosts tend to actively collate information from local sources faster than the clueless LameStreamMedia.

    YMMV.

  21. Oh God. Has anyone seen the tweets from the Democrats? Close the gun show loophole! No more online sales! Blaaaaaaagh! No guns! Lol. Sorry, I feel bad for these victims. But, Cali has the stupidest gun laws in the US. And these suspects still seemed to commit the crime. The only thing the laws did? Prevent these victims from defending themselves if they so chose to own and carry a firearm on their person. But they were stripped of that right and decision by the liberals. So the liberals have this on their hands. Banning guns or whatever you wanna call it, it does nothing. It just leaves the innocent at the mercy of people with no mercy. Today was just another example.

  25. Not one to drag out the Jump to Conclusions mat, but I have a feeling we would know damn well by this point if it was a “White Christian Militia Extremist with an NRA hat and a TTAG coffee mug”. The media just can’t contain themselves when it comes to shame-bludgeoning any non democrats.

    Oh and don’t look to Reuters for updates if you have a heart condition.   28. Two Suspects dead. One Male, One Female. Third Suspect detained. Residence in Redlands, CA under Police/FBI investigation/ NO ID’s on suspects released yet.
