BREAKING: 10 Shot, 2 Dead Including Gunman near Empire State Building in New York City

Multiple sources (including ABC) are reporting that there has been a shooting at the Empire State Building in New York City. Details are scarce, but we believe that ten people have been shot, of which five were killed. It is being reported that NYPD finally put the shooter down when returning fire. Witnesses reported seeing a “large” gun being used. So much for “gun free” New York City…

  1. avatar rosignol says:

CNN is saying the shooter has been stopped by NYPD.

    1. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

And is also reporting 10 victims, not 5.

  2. avatar Chas says:

This story has to be a lie. Guns are banned in NYC.

    1. avatar Mr. Pierogie says:

I know! They’ve banned just about everything, including guns, so how is it that criminals still commit these atrocities? It’s like they don’t care about all those laws or something… Shocking!!! Cue Monopoly Money Mike with “we need more storm troopers…err, I mean cops, on the streets of NYC” in 3, 2….

  3. avatar Michael B. says:

When Christopher Hitchens called the Virginia Tech shooting a non-story and compared it to a traffic accident I was a bit surprised. But really, random acts of insanity are just that. It’s already illegal to be walking around with a gun in NYC. It’s illegal to shoot and murder people there too.

Crazy people are gonna do crazy things.

  4. avatar Tarrou says:

  5. avatar Jon says:

And the anti gun freaks are going to come out once again today to try and destroy our rights as gun owners!!!!

  6. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

To the families of the fallen: you have my most sincere condolences.

To the NYPD: a cautious thumbs-up.

To Hizzoner Bloomberg: why didn’t your strict gun control policies prevent this?

    1. avatar Chris Dumm says:

      Well said.

    2. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

In light of the multiple innocents wounded by stray gunfire, I’m removing my thumbs up from the NYPD.

  7. avatar Geoff says:

but but, mayor Mike has promised that if we are all disarmed this cannot happen….

  8. avatar Loyd says:

    Gun show loophole

  9. avatar Fearfull says:

When are we going to have an honest discussion about banning high-capacity buildings? Enough is enough.

    1. avatar Milsurp Collector says:

Can’t forget about those assault coffee thermos’ carried by so many hard working New Yorkers either. Those things are a menace to society with their rapid flow coffee releasing abilities and their handle things that go up. We need to ban high capacity coffee thermos’, because when we have to do SOMETHING, it’s for the children. *sarcasm off*

      1. avatar personfromtheinterwebs says:

It’s only high capacity if it holds more than ten ounces.

        1. avatar Patch says:

Sixteen ounces, I think it is, but who (other than Bloomberg himself) is counting?

  10. avatar anonymous says:

If only our prison system was as harsh as Norway’s, criminals would be deterred from committing crimes.

    1. avatar ready,fire,aim says:

      LOL 21 years for 70 + lives…what a joke

      1. avatar Mr. Pierogie says:

yep, less than 0.3 years per victim…some justice.

        1. avatar Second Amendment says:

And that’s if he serves the max. He could serve as little as TEN years.

    2. avatar GS650G says:

He gets a computer and a treadmill. Oh, the inhumanity of it all.

  11. avatar Milsurp Collector says:

I could bet someone a six-pack of Budweiser that Bloomberg and crew won’t have their predictable “let’s make guns illegaler” reaction and then turn the stop & frisk/subjugation dial up to 11, but I’d just be giving away free beer anyway.

    1. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

I guess we get to find out soon. Hizzoner is set to speak at 11 ET.

      1. avatar Michael B. says:

        He is literally a vampire.

        1. avatar anonymous says:

          “He is literally a vampire.”

You literally do not know what “literally” means.

        2. avatar SD3 says:

“You literally do not know what “literally” means.”

          …or *does* he…

          Dun! Dun! Dun!!!

  12. avatar Michael B. says:

Stop and frisk didn’t work. All NYC’s gun control laws didn’t work. What we really need is more laws to make everything more illegal. That’ll stop the crazies concerned about laws from committing mass murder.

    1. avatar rosignol says:

Hey, guys, I have an idea- let’s pass a law that makes breaking the law illegal! That’ll solve the problem for sure!

      1. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

Yeah! And then, just to be sure, we’ll pass a law making it illegal to break THAT law! It’s an ironclad system! Amirite?

    2. avatar Milsurp Collector says:

With the way things are headed in NYC, I am terrified of but would not be surprised if Bloomberg finally snapped and decided to rip a page out of the history books. I could easily see him transcending all federal law and making possession of a firearm or even parts punishable by torture, heavy prison time, or execution as the Brits did in Ireland in the early 20th century. The man all ready flips congress and all of D.C the bird by running his own empire and basically appointing himself lifelong ruler of Manhattan.

    3. avatar Dirk Diggler says:

      1. avatar Dirk Diggler says:

why is it off topic? Bloomberg’s stop and frisk program would not have stopped this guy because his race would not have made him subject to it, which policy is the subject of a current civil rights litigation. Help me understand why this is off topic for stating facts.

  13. avatar John says:

Prayers for the victums and their families.

Wonder of Mikey will order this recorded by NYPD as a misdemeanor in order to keep his stats looking good?

    1. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

Well, the shooter IS dead, so no crime could have been committed. Amirite?

    2. avatar Bill F says:

For the official record: Officers responded to a reported disturbance. No arrests were made.

  14. avatar Mike S says:

Wonder if he was all hopped-up on sugar from a Big Gulp. This is why we need sensible beverage control.

  15. avatar sum yung guy says:

In New York, when in doubt, blame Virginia. Bloomberg is a tool. My deepest sympathy for the victims whose power to adequately defend themselves was verboten. May their families find peace and comfort soon.

  16. avatar John says:

Sigh… Another weekend of dancing in the blood.

  17. avatar tdiinva says:

CNN is reporting that the shooter used a shotgun. How do you miss a guy walking around in NYC with a shotgun? Perhaps it was a shotgun with an illegal barrel but how can that be since it’s against the law?

    1. avatar Loyd says:

He probably watched that DHS Run/Hide/Fight video.

    1. Love the “Update”

    2. avatar Aharon says:

Thanks for the good laugh! 🙂

I can visualize Obama getting on TV and pleading for a week without violence.

  18. avatar Ryan Finn says:

NBC New York is saying the only people shot were one co-worker of the gunman, who was fired yesterday, and the gunman himself. Looks like the other injuries are from people getting hurt in the panicked stampede of bystanders.

    1. avatar Dirk Diggler says:

no the others were injured by the Po-Po opening fire. Looks like Bloomy needs to address that his officers can’t shoot for shit

      1. avatar Michael B. says:

        Ohhhh boy.

      2. avatar Accur81 says:

What’s your best rapid fire group with a 12 pound trigger?

  19. avatar Matt in FL says:

It really is frightening to wait for the response. An illegal act with a (likely) illegally possessed weapon in one of the top two most gun-unfriendly cities in the nation, and yet the angry dwarf is almost certain to say that it’s “so important that we get the guns off the streets.”

  20. avatar mdc says:

Where’s the mayor bragging about how secure his fascist city is?Pussification of America it’s become.

    1. avatar Patch says:

He’s slated to speak shortly. Live stream on all your favorite 24/7 news websites, and some you hate.

Odds currently favor him repressing any inclination to say, “The system worked.”

  21. avatar jwm says:

a disgruntled employee who was fired. sound familiar? we need to ban firing. or disgruntled employee’s. this whole gun control thing ain’t working. wonder what baa baa blomberg thinks of tar and feathers. it’s an old fashioned solution, but it just might work.

  22. avatar RKflorida says:

It’s now reported on Drudge that the police accidentally shot and killed one of the by standers.

  23. avatar Aharon says:

One hundred years ago in NYC if someone tried doing a public mass shooting a dozen gentlemen would pull pistols out from underneath their overcoats and shoot the attacker dead. End of story no legal headaches for any of the shooters.

    1. avatar Moonshine7102 says:

Yes, we’re much more civilized now, aren’t we? Thank dog we are finally treating the 2nd amendment like the 18th century anachronism that it is.

(be careful not to step in the sarc)

      1. avatar Aharon says:

Modern ‘enlightened and self-righteous’ society is losing the old ways, old common sense, and old wisdom accumulated over many centuries.

Under English Law as I understand it, where the gun grabbers want to take us, people cannot even use a weapon to defend themselves. The PC modern-day thinking British politicians ie fascists say using weapons against an attacker would be ‘uncivilized’. Therefore victims can’t by law use batons, swords, knives, or even replica guns. Victims have been prosecuted for using anything in their house to defend themselves. Burglars don’t care if people are home when they break in. No worries about guns or such. Go figure.

  24. avatar Brother Bear says:

As I read the story this doesn’t count as a Mass Shooting like the Chicago Tribue is calling it “The Third Mass Shooting of the Summer”.

He went in after only one target. Whom he shot and killed successfully. The rest of the wounded were people caught in the gun fight between the shooter and the police. And some of the wounded were actually shot BY THE POLICE.

So this is a simple homicide, and not a Mass Shooting.

    Just saying..

    1. avatar Brother Bear says:

“The wounded include two women and seven men sent to two area hospitals whom Bloomberg said may have been accidentally shot by cops, who fired off 14 rounds.”
      – USA Today

So out of the 14 shots fired by the police… 9 of them hit civilians.

      Great job NYPD.

  25. avatar Sanchanim says:

Well watching the follow up I wonder our of the 8 injured how many were shot by the LEO’s? Not saying the LEO’s are bad, but we have talked about collateral damage in the past.
    Queue the lawyers in 3……2……1…….

      Enhance your calm, John Spartan.

If your post had been deleted, there would be a note to that effect in its place. If it’s not showing up, you probably ran afoul of the notoriously capricious spam filter. Sometimes it will hold posts for no discernible reason. It will show up eventually, have faith.
