Michael Bloomberg’s new gun control group – Everytown for Gun Safety – has assumed control of the disputed Facebook page of the same name. If you recall, Bloomberg’s ballistic bully boys forgot to create a Facebook page for their $50m civilian disarmament campaign. Gun Rights Across America scooped-it-up – then pulled it down on the advice of NRA lawyers. Facebook has now transferred control of Everytown for Gun Safety to Everytown for Gun Safety. The page has 289 Likes and an image suggesting that law enforcement supports Bloomie’s gun control efforts. And positions Hizzoner as a King (just sayin’). So far, negative comments are not being removed. Expect that to change as well.

  1. I am sure this will be counted as a “pivotal victory against the forces of evil guns and their small vocal majority” by the time this is done being reported in the media..

On the other hand, it was a huge grassroots victory for freedom loving individuals. Because it was and Bloomberg had his little man panties in a safety wad.

  2. I’m pretty sure the new page owners are going to love the post comments now that 43,000 pro gunners liked the page when it first came up.

  3. BREAKING NEWS: Bloomberg to start an even newer, new grassroots FB page, “Eleventy Billion People for Whatever Bloomberg Says.”

  4. Has anyone else been getting ETFGS?(man that’s an awful acronym) ads on youtube? Specifically on ShootingTheBull410’s 9mm ammo quest? I’m all for skipping them and burning up Richy Riches advertizing budget, but who does that egomaniac think he’s gonna reach putting pre-roll ads before a series about the best self defense 9mm load out of a 3″ pistol?

  5. While it is a bit sad to see the page go that way, this has been most definitely been a Pyrrhic victory in the battle for social media.

  6. If you try looking for the Bloomberg version on Facebooks search bar many of the results are for the other versions that didn’t get taken down.

  7. I don’t understand this at all. Someone created a page and called it Every Town for Gun Safety. How does that carry any legal risk whatsoever? All this does is once again demonstrate that “might makes right”.

    • Good question. I dunno what policy or law his army of lawyers with nothing better to do are using. Maybe get an interview with the person(s) who registered it and the NRA in what their thoughts were?

    • It carries the risk of a lawsuit, even if Bloomy has a bad case (seeing as how they hadn’t trademarked it at the time of the FB group). But the risk of a lawsuit is enough to scare people away unless they have major cojones.

    • So, in terms of trademarks, given no money is being made, is there some sort of product dilution involved? Wouldn’t this be a pretty clear case of “parody”?

I guess there are bigger fish to fry in the larger scheme of things than using valuable resources defending a facebook page, but still.

      • I was mighty disappointed to see the site taken down so soon & without a battle, but there’s also something to be said for getting away clean. Probably best not to fight someone whose best weapons are money and government on a battleground of money and government. 😉

  8. I am far from sophisticated when it comes to the inner-workings of FB, but there are two Everytown for Gun Safety pages that are up and running in the “Cause” and “Open Group” categories. Bloomberg’s comes up as a “Political Organization.” When I search for Everytown for Gun Safety, the two pro-gun versions come up first in the search.

  9. So how does one “assume control” of another’s inactive FB page? Did bloomers just create another page with the exact same name? Seriously, I don’t know. I’m not on Lookatmebook.

  10. “So far, negative comments are not being removed.” ,You meant to say, “So far pro-gun,pro-freedom comments are not being removed.

  11. I don’t think the image suggests that law enforcement support his gun control schemes, I think it suggests that everyone, including the police, must bow down before him.

    • I want to make a snide comment about him being short in stature, but I’m a bigger man than that. (Pun intended.)

      Sorry. Couldn’t help myself…

  12. My suggestion is to avoid the site all together. Don’t give them the satisfaction of the visit count. Don’t post on it, don’t legitimize it. The moment has passed and time to move on.

POG need to take the high ground. Not the “come and take it”, “F Bloomie” and other defiant stances…it only feeds their emotional arguments.

I do agree with costing them money though. I do let the ads roll on You Tube, I avoid visiting Bloomberg or his companies sites when I get news. Its a small thing but every bit helps.

    • “POG need to take the high ground. ”

I’m so sick of hearing / reading this.

There is nothing “low ground” about what is going on…the battle for mindshare in the social media “space” is a new battleground and the Rules of Engagement have not been fully worked out.

There is a whole generation or two of individuals that get a LOT of their information (or all of it) from online sources. I hate Facebook, but I see its importance in the battle for RKBA.

What are we to do…just cede that ‘space’ and let them dominate it?

We WON this battle even if Bloomberg gets his page. They are the ones claiming to be so social media savvy and experts on PR…and our side showed them to be tattering bumpkins in the battle THEY CHOSE.

      Celebrate it. Don’t denigrate it.

  13. Huh? Am I the only one that still sees ONLY the pro-gun version on both Google and Facebook searches? Cannot find the MAIG version.

  14. It should really read ‘Zucker’ bows to King Bloomberg; shuts down first owner of Everytown for Gun Safety. Too bad Zucker doesn’t have the balls to be his own man.

So, is this new site going to be closed or are they going to actually allow dissenting commentary? Since they can’t win the battle of open opinions, I’m thinking anything said will be strictly monitored to make sure it meets ‘Mommies with their Bloomers off for Bloomberg’ lies and distortions of the truth.

  15. This garbage popped up as a paid advertisement on my Twitter feed.

I was going to respond but it looked as if enough people were already destroying them, lol.

  16. Holy cow he is practically anointing that cop in the picture. Not only does he go to the front of the line, folks, he’s the new bouncer at the pearly gates. Also, there is a ridiculous graphic on that page of what looks to be a small bore barrel firing an entirely intact 7.62x54r out of the front. Heap ridicule.

    • Is the picture of the token “Bald Third World General/Dictator” cum small town police chief still there further down the page on the left? That was a nice touch for the kids.

  17. @JR

You have missed the point completely…I did not say cede the social media battlespace…I said this battle is over…POG won this round. The damage was done. Don’t tarnish the victory by dwelling on it and leaving hate mail on the site. All it does is feed their stereotype that POG are profane and ignorant.

Ignore it and move on. Don’t legitimize the site by visiting it. That’s what I said. If you are reading anything more in to it…that’s on you.

    • “You have missed the point completely”

Au contraire. Didn’t miss your point at all. I just disagree with your suggestion of pacifism in the social media fight.

“Don’t legitimize the site by visiting it. That’s what I said.”

Passive. Give them the space / site. Let them make anti-gun comments with no response.

Well worded pro-gun comments on anti-gun sites continue the victory. If they then move to shut down or moderate such comments that’s another victory.

The one thing they can NOT stand is the TRUTH being told to their minions.

      • @JR,

Again you are misinterpreting my comments. Moving on is not being passive. Its about putting a notch on the rifle stock and lining up the next target, instead of putting more rounds into one that’s already done.

    • +1. Mock them, Bloomie looked a fool, and so did his PR “pro” – Ms Watts.
The POTG got inside their OODA loop.

Next step is to win the next battle, and do it again,
and that wont be by wasting time distracting from the win, by giving them hits on their FAKEBOOK site.

  18. So both pages are up right now. The bloomberg page has 300 likes. They can’t erase the pro gun comments right now because then there’d be no comments

  19. Unsuccessful coup. The Palace Guard (the unjust Interwebz) prevailed. So what next?

There HAS to be some way we can wrest back an advantage from this countercoup.

  20. I can’t get it to come up on Facebook but when I do, I’ll post an ad for high capacity magazines. (and how to use them safely of course)

  21. As long as their FB page is allowing open comments, we should flood the page with intelligent discussions on gun rights and guns safety. Who knows how many low-information voters we could educate in the next few days?

KEEP IT POLITE, though. NO NAME-CALLING. Be patient, but firm with the idiots you may find over there. Remember that how you act will reflect on all gun owners. We’re trying to win hearts and minds, not just defeat an enemy. Don’t make a bad impression on them. Try using emotional arguments occasionally also, because that’s what works with those people.

  22. First they register, then they regulate, then they restrict, then they confiscate!

Fact: In 1994, before the Federal “assault weapons ban,” you were eleven (11) times more likely to be beaten to death than to be killed by an “assault weapon.”

Fact: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. Often the gun is never fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.

Fact: Every year, people in the United States use guns to defend themselves against criminals an estimated 2,500,000 times – more than 6,500 people a day, or once every 13 seconds. Of these instances, 15.6% of the people using firearms defensively stated that they “almost certainly” saved their lives by doing so.

Fact: 54% of these deaths are suicides (80% in Canada). Numerous studies have shown that the presence or absence of a firearm does not change the overall (i.e., gun plus non-gun) suicide rate.

Fact: Guns are used for self-defense 2,500,000 times a year in the United States.

    • 71% of gunshot victims had previous arrest records.
    • 64% had been convicted of a crime.
    • Each had an average of 11 prior arrests.62,63
    • 63% of victims have criminal histories and 73% of the time they know their assailant (twice as often as victims without criminal histories).

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5-million Armenians, deprived of the means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. Then, from 1929 to 1953, approximately 20-millon dissidents were rounded up and killed.

In 1938 Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945 over 13-million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill, union leaders, Catholics and others, unable to fire a shot in protest, were rounded up and killed.

In 1935, China established gun control. Subsequently, between 1948 and 1952, over 20-million dissidents were rounded up and killed.

In 1956, Cambodia enshrined gun control. In just two years (1975-1977) over one million “educated” people were rounded up and killed.

In 1964, Guatemala locked in gun control. From 1964 to 1981, over 100,000 Mayan Indians were rounded up and killed as a result of their inability to defend themselves.

In 1970, Uganda embraced gun control. Over the next nine years over 300,000 Christians were rounded up and killed.

Over 56-million people have died because of gun control in the last century.

“Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic, purely symbolic move… Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation.” – Charles Krauthammer Syndicated Columnist The Washington Post, April 5, 1996
