Moments ago, we received word that SB-11 (Campus Carry) has finally passed the Texas House, clearing the last legislative hurdle before heading to the governor’s pen. The bill was dangerously close to falling off the end of Texas’ short semi-annual legislative session, but it has now officially passed in both chambers and moves on to the Governor for his signature when he has a spare moment. The bill has changed since its first introduction as STB outlined yesterday, but its still a step in the right direction in texas.

Ummm, then there are all the professors, admins, and staff who carried despite the “gun-free” notices. After 9-11, Virginia Poly, and Sandy Hook more than a few college and university folks took a long, hard look at their survivability chances and very discretely armed themselves. The libtards would freak out, of course, but ain’t nobody who’s carryn’ saying nothin’.

God job Texas! Overall, YAWN. Antis think that they’ll be drunken frat boys waving handguns all over campus, while pro gun people think campus will become crime free utopias. In reality just about diddly squat will happen other than a super small percentage of students will carry on campus and no one will know.
…and perhaps a non-trivial percentage of non-student visitors (parents, etc.), who may also be present on campus now without being made into unarmed victims.
As with almost all areas of concealed carry, the important thing is not to be able to shoot the bad guys, but to make them think, nay BELIEVE that there is no free lunch anymore just because you are planning to victimize college-age people on or near a campus.
As of now they have to stop and wonder, will this be an easy liberal mark or is this son of a bitch going to shoot me?

Some legislators, particularly Rep. Allen, already made some astonishingly bold “blood in the streets” claims during testimony today before the bill was finally passed. I am sure you will see it in the media tonight and tomorrow, or you can go to my writeup on the House passing this bill for a few excerpts.
I haven’t examined the bill but fear it will be useless. Criminal penalties apply to carrying in areas the school wants to ban. We will see, but I see campuses being patchworks of “ok” and “no go” zones. Storage is not a part of the bill so if you have to go in or through a zone, the gun stays in the car. Or, probably even more commonly, it stays at home because of campus parking considerations.
Private vehicle are already covered under castle doctrine.

Move Constitution carry forward
While the current law (HB910) did not remove the force of law from the 30.06 & 30.07 signs, it did greatly reduce the penalty, from a Class A misdemeanor (one step below a felony) to a Class C misdemeanor (about the same as a traffic ticket).
Jonathan Stickland released a video celebrating the passage of open carry and promising to take up the fight for constitutional carry in the next session.

Was at a gun show last weekend in Cedar Park and already a group taking petition signatures for constitution open carry in Tx legislation 2 years from now.

Let’s give Watkins and constitution carry movement a couple years to gear up to entertain us and legislators again. If they shut up and not go Rambo again we just may get constitution carry in next session.
Meanwhile, Obama is planning new BATF gun-control measures to be enacted by executive decree? This is not going to be pretty.
Enacted by royal fiat or not, they still have to figure out how to enforce them. A whole lot of state and local LEOs may not view feds harassing the locals over unconstitutional federal gun regulations lightly.
Just because the imperial president writes a decree does not automatically give the federal agents carte blanche authority and trump all state laws.
It does when it comes to who passes the background check at a federally licensed dealer.
But not for the MILLIONS of folks that already own guns.

Call me a pessimist, but the only thing I’m thinking is how long until some brainwashed leftist student stages some false flag stunt, like leaving a gun on a bench or wearing it openly, doing something reckless, and calling himself an NRA member.
