“Gunpocalypse” — a package of ten new gun control laws — have passed the California Senate. [Click here for a rundown.] They’re now now en route to the Assembly, who will no doubt vote yea as well. If approved, the package will head to the governor for his signature. They includes an ammo registry (license, depending on how it’s worded) and a potential ammo purchase limit, as well as a ban on “bullet button enabled” guns – semi automatic rifles with detachable magazines to normal people. All of which proves that the state of California is home to a special kind of tyranny . . .

While I was told by a friend of mine, Jason, who lives behind enemy lines in the Golden State, “none of these bills will stop crime!” I could only respond with “I know. But that isn’t the point.” He replied “No. It’s not. The point is, people won’t get on the trains or suffer much more oppression while armed.” Bingo. So in comes Gunpocalypse.

Again, this isn’t a joke to those that live with this sort of asinine and ridiculous stuff on a daily basis. The men I knew who were friends of mine, whose wives I drank coffee with in my home, and whose children played with mine, are not the ones that need controlled.  All of them were in close vicinity to myself and my kids with guns. The men discussed hunting and checked out my husband’s rifles while we all chatted about the mandatory vaccine laws.

These are not the people to be concerned with. Yet these laws will harshly affect them more than any felon. The magazine illegality will immediately turn most of my friends into felons overnight, by simple virtue of possession.

While you may own a 30-round magazine in California, you can’t legally put more than ten rounds in it. None of the hunters ever did, and they used bullet-buttons. Now what?  They potentially wake up as felons in a matter of months if the refuse to get rid of legally acquired items they paid for. The word you are looking for is asinine.

This is what oppression looks like, and it isn’t a good look, California. We can hope the Supreme Court will someday strike down these clearly unconstitutional laws. Meanwhile, I will still be here fighting for the rights of not only my friends, but the rest of you in that state. I will still donate whatever funds I can spare to help. Godspeed, California.

  1. Wah! We can’t leave because of ____________. Please support us!

Nope. Sorry. Free Will and all that.

Just a pre-emptive reply to the coming comments from the Californians here.

    • So glad you’re ahead of the comment curve this time… The freedom-minded people who still live in California and those who still have ties there are no less worthy just because they’re outnumbered by 30 million progressive idiots.

      • No, but they do choose to live there. I’ve been contacted about jobs in Soviet states and I refuse to interview for it. $10k+ a year more isn’t worth giving up my rights. People who make that decision to give up their rights over money or the even more idiotic “Muh relatives live there! I ain’t never heard of no telephonies / interwebs / skee-ipes!” are intentionally making a choice that they do not value their rights.

        • Amen. Besides, with the taxes and fees, a $10K raise is not $10K more in your pocket. In the company I work, I have been recently warned that I could eventually face a layoff if I do not move to California. The choice is simple: I will not go.

        • The problem is – for every freedom loving person that leaves California, it’s an extra vote by a liberal. California needs freedom loving people’s votes.

      • You know, I’ve heard there are *some* damn fine people in North Korea, too. Can’t prove it, but that’s what I’ve heard. And I still don’t want to live there.

        • I wouldn’t want to live there either. You couldn’t pay me enough to live in California or N. Korea. Or S. Korea, for that matter. (Well, you could…but if you did, you’d also be paying me enough to turn right back around and leave, which I would very quickly do.)

I’m just saying that there are plenty of hardworking people in Cali who value ALL their civil rights, and they don’t deserve to be chastised by the rest of us just because they’re badly outnumbered.

      • People leaving behind their homes in search of a better life with more freedom and opportunity: it is the ongoing story of our country.

I chose to leave California twelve years ago. In my case it was not a sacrifice, but I have not regretted it.

The people who cling to the familiar and the convenient are free to make that choice for themselves. That choice remains to them while other choices may slip away from them.

It is not my place to judge, but I do feel sorry for them.

    • We’re in *occupied territory*. It is in fact our job to MAKE THEM LEAVE not run for the hills from a bunch of paperwork bureaucrats.

      • How heroic. Unfortunately, you’re just going to stay there and fall further into servitude.

California cannot be saved by democratic means at this point. The die is cast. Its demographics dictate its destiny. California will have to hit rock bottom and crater Greece-style before any wholesale remaking is in the offing. That could be decades, generations, from now.

Better now to flee to a free state redoubt, bolster it, and prepare for the inevitable, hopefully peaceful, dissolution of the United States.

        • You’re right. California will have to go “full-Venezuela” before they ever get their freedom back.

      • There are two forces at work here. Evolution and revolution. Evolution kills millions by the end. Revolution kills hundreds at the beginning. Who will stand in defiance for liberty? Who will be arrested in the name of freedom? Who will refuse to comply to local tyranny? Where is your line in the sand? Take a stand and others will stand with you. It is terrifying. That is how evolution succeeds. Progressives. Apt term. Conservative means retention. An object at rest tends to stay at rest. Evolution moves. Slowly. You don’t notice it until it is too late. Where did my liberty go? Revolution starts like a slow clap. No one wants to be the first to break the silence. No one wants to sacrifice a comfortable living. No one want to take a bullet or fire the first shot. One man can not start this revolution. One man is a “psychopath”. No one rallies behind a psycho. Our founders had a crazy idea.

“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”
        Mark Twain

    • Just ask Colorado what happens when Californians “leave.” You think it can’t happen in your state, but you for get the power of wealthy left elites when they decide that they want to turn your precious gun haven into their own utopia.

    • Pond avenue. Its a war, you’re the guy that retreats while the pro 2A people in CA fight to hold the line. State is irrelevant, its like a cancer that starts in your colon but spreads through your body and eventually kills you. Are you naming states that you’re OK with having anti 2A laws? Are you a state-fudd?

      • Dude, you’re about to lose semi autos; you ain’t holding off shit with your little ‘resistance.’ Sorry, but you’ve been routed by urban morons amd your fellow neighboorhood busybodies. The only question is what next? Retreat isn’t the only option, but it is the only sane option for gun owners.

    • Your so right. I should just shutter my business and move out. Send me your address and My wife and I will just live your house with all of our stuff until such time as I can get my business (a service business with zero transportability) up and running. Shouldn’t take more than a few years, 10 tops.

I’m sure you’ll be cool with that. Thank you in advance. Can my aging mom come too, I take care of her and she probably wont live too much longer. She can sleep in your room. She’s prone to Alzheimer, so she probably wont even realize that she’s in a new location, especially after you remodel your home to match hers.

Thanks again! I never knew such kind people existed.

      • May your chains rest lightly, and I’ll write you off as one of the helpless/useless compliant oppressed number who are pretty much all that’s left in the antigun states.

      • Hey buddy, none of us are responsible for the decisions YOU made. YOU live there. YOU run your business there. I didn;t make those decisions for you, so I don’t owe you s**t. Maybe that sucks for you. Maybe it’ll be tough for you to move. Maybe impossible. But that’s YOUR problem, and the result of YOUR decisions. Not sure why you expect someone to be sympathetic to you. Reminds me of all the millenials who took 100K in student loans to spend 7 years getting a bachelor’s degree in Theater History, and then expecting the rest of society to feel bad about their inability to find work and their cruippling debt. Yeah, being out of work and owing people a lot of money REALLY REALLY sucks. It does. And maybe there’s no easy solution, which also sucks. But that doesn’t make it MY problem. And it doesn;t mean you get to guilt trip me (or use the gov’t) to force me to subsidize your shitty decisions. Made your bed, sleep in it. Like a grown-up.

        • “…so I don’t owe you s**t.”

No one here is saying you do. By the tone of your post, I know exactly what kind of person you are. I’ve known a hundred people like you, and believe me, you’re the last guy I’d turn to in a crisis. Your kind simply cannot be counted on.

“Not sure why you expect someone to be sympathetic to you.”

Because when your allies take it in the shorts, you sympathize with them. It’s the decent, adult thing to do.

“Reminds me of all the millenials who took 100K in student loans…And it doesn;t mean you get to guilt trip me (or use the gov’t) to force me to subsidize your shitty decisions.”

Now you’ve completely stumped me. How is this in any way going to cost you money? Are you suggesting that because Californians are on the cusp of losing their 2A rights, we’re going to demand that you…what, pay our mortgages? Our car loans? Your suggestion makes no sense. At all. It sounds like paranoid delusion.

“Made your bed, sleep in it. Like a grown-up.”

This is just laughable. Your puerile, profane, and angry outburst – not at your enemies, but at those who are aligned exactly like you on this issue – is hardly a mark of maturity.

You probably think the leftists in Califonia won’t stop until they’ve made the entire state a socialist paradise. If that were the case, it wouldn’t bother me as much as it does, because I am in fact leaving California. There’s an exit plan and I’ll be gone probably by the time these bills take effect, or shortly thereafter.

But you’d be wrong to assume that. I’ve been around them long enough to know that they won’t stop until they’ve made the entire nation a socialist paradise. So the battle we’re presently losing in Cali will be on your doorstep soon enough. Guaranteed.

When that day comes, do you want our help defending your rights? Or would you rather we take the same selfish, crappy attitude you have?

      • I sympathize that you’re in a real tough spot. I’m only 32 so I don’t know if this is a new thing, but so many people seemed tied to their jobs more than anything else, it’s like they can’t fathom doing anything to leave there job, whether it is to leave a state like Cali, or have a parent stay home with a child that may struggle in a normal school environment. So many would rather suffer through all kinds of personal pains to avoid losing or even risking their job… There’s more than one way to earn a living…

    • With guys like you and pubes on our side kapo bloomberg and hillary will have an easier job of it. Divide and conquer. You guys should drop the act and just admit you are anti 2a.

      • My point is don’t bitch. You choose where you get up every morning. Don’t take all the good stuff and whine about the bad stuff to the rest of us who choose elsewhere to wake up in the morning. I don’t complain about the mosquitos and humidity here to you, I don’t have an ocean nearby but our state is Republican controlled. California is lost. Deal with it.

        • So we should all be quiet and stoic while so called gunowners are fine with ceding large portions of our country to the anti’s?

Hope your state gets a large influx of californians.

        • Yes, one ultimately chooses where one lives, and for many the choice to live elsewhere would completely upend their lives.

I left CA because something better was on the phone. There’s people making serious cash in tech – you think they can relo to Montana? Not to mention the friends, wife’s friends, kid like their school, depending on where you live it’s amazingly beautiful and you can go skiing after a short drive. The art scene, the restaurants, the seriously weird people, the intellectual institutions, it’s a fascinating place to live.

Grow up. There are few choices that are black and white. There’s always some gray, and not everyone has reached the point of fleeing CA just for their gun rights. We need to support them.

        • For the record, the first comment on this article was you, bitching about Californians asking for your support, when no one had in fact done so. Don’t worry, no one will ask for your support, Pond. We’ve all known loudmouths like you, and we know you’re utterly unreliable when pushed.

      • Come on JWM don’t you realize if we just let adolf have the Sudetenland everything will work out? /sarc

    • Laugh and point fingers all you want, but what has taken California a decade or so to accomplish is going to become the baseline for other states when they decide to pursue anti gun legislation.

      • Tex300: no one is laughing.

I’d be worried too if I was you. The open border welcome wagon will turn Texas blue within a fairly short time. I’m not laughing about that either. Three words: Elections have consequences.

    • Why should we have to leave? Californians are protected by the same constitution as everyone else. Leaving a tyrannical state is a show of cowardice.

    • Wow. Nice to see such support from people who are supposedly politically aligned with me. So, Pond, when Hillary is elected and appoints two anti gun justices, which will put the rest of America – including your generous self – in the same boat as California, I hope we’ll see no posts from you complaining about abrogation of your rights. Because if I do, you can take a wild guess what my response will be. Here’s a hint: something along the lines of “wah, I can’t leave America because of _____. Nope, sorry. Free will. You don’t like the gun laws here, go live in Israel or South Africa or somewhere.”

      With friends like you…

    • I don’t blame others for leaving California but there are those of us that choose to stay or can’t leave. Now for all you tough talking geniuses here’s a civics lesson, in case you haven’t noticed there’s this thing called the California Congressional Delegation, if the leftists could get control of that completely that would kinda you know suck for you as well as us. But by all means please sit around all sunshine patriot/fair weather soldier and tell us to pull a de Gaulle.

      • So I assume you’re going to refuse to comply with any new state gun control?

The only thing more cowardly than leaving is bowing your head to accept your new chains.

    • The mask has really slipped off. It’s hard for leftists to get people to buy their claims that they are not gungrabbers when the leftists states are doing everything they can to outlaw guns.

  2. Wow. It’s going to be worse than living in New York.

“We can hope the Supreme Court will someday strike down these clearly unconstitutional laws.”

Not if HRC is elected this Nov. Literally, this is it. If HRC is allowed to win the second amendment will just be so much ink on paper. Which it’s already close to, but there will be nothing left after a few years with her in office.

    • Even if the Hildebeest is elected I still hold hope. Every single thing it has ever said had been a lie, there’s a better than average chance its promised gun control measures will amount to the same.

      • Republicans provide cover for Democrats. They all get paid the same way.

Sure I hope, I hope I am wrong. But I’m not.

      • Hope in one hand & Dookee in the other hand.
See which hand gets full the quickest.

Hillary, if elected with a democrat Congress on her coattails WILL get her Australian Style Gun Control. Sorry but you and 308 are in some sort of weird denial. Google Australian Gun Control if you are unfamiliar with it. Even pellet guns must be registered.

    • Eh, seems about equal to NY (it’s clearly where they got their inspiration for some of the laws). Of course NYS has utterly failed to figure out how to do the ammo stuff, we shall see if CA succeeds.

      • We can featureless AR’s here, from my brief reading of these bills it seems people in CA will not be allowed to have them at all. Seem worse, not by much sure.

    • The SCOTUS is not the final authority on the Constitution.

If they want my guns, they can come and try to take them.

  3. I think this will be the tipping point for people here finally. All of the people I know said they would simply not comply. I however, will comply and give up the names of all my friends and family who wish to go against the state! ..sarc

  4. Non-Californians should not be smug or condescending.
If Hillary is elected in November, the entire US will have these same laws, or worse, unless the GOP controls Congress for the entire duration of her terms.

    • How about saying bills are being introduced IN Illinois to duplicate this? Sorry to see this.

      • The state is more pro gun that most people realize. That’s what keeps a LOT of the state level stuff in check, All the stuff that gets introduced comes from Chicago. But remember Chicago is only 2.7 out of 12.8 million. And all of cook is only 5.2 million. CCW would have passed years before it did if it only required a standard majority

        • Let us pray we can hold the line in IL. Too much other stupidity gets by so we are far from immune. Keep your powder dry.

        • Sorry guys I don’t share your optimism. I’m fairly certain Rauner would veto this crap but I also see him as a one and done rich dude trying to change this corrupt state. And it ain’t workin’…get those cards and letters(and phone calls and E-mails) out. When 3000 show up in Springfield on a few scant hours notice…

        • Walker, I don’t think Madigan will let this threw. His is not an anti-gun true believer, but a lot of the machine democrats he controls are. He knows this kind of crap would just whittle at his machine democrat base. He has enough problems with the unions and trying to figure out how to pay for their pensions. If you could solve that for him, he would buy you a machine gun.

        • Moonbeam vetoed this sort of over-reach last time – saying as much.

Crazy though he may be, sometimes he makes the right choices.

  5. The folks in California may need to contact the AutoDefensas in Mexico.

They may have a common opponent.

Seems like CA is trying hard to be like Old Mexico.

  6. So, sometime in the future after we win this massive attack on our freedoms, are we going to prosecute those within the government who enforced unconstitutional laws, rules, regulations, and edicts? Or, are we going to accept the Eichmann defense.

  7. My guess is no one will really care and only Democrats will be affected by this. Republicans will register their “assault weapons” at rates similar to what people in New York and Maryland did. They’ll keep their home defense weapons loaded with 15 round magazines. And if some dufus does break into their houses, they’ll swap them out before calling 911.

Frankly, I don’t really care what the Democrats do. I hope they disarm themselves.

The ammunition restrictions might take a little more ingenuity to get around. I would suspect that illegal aliens may start offering shuttle services for cash to buy ammunition in Nevada. It’s a great opportunity for some criminal entrepreneurs.

Most of the other stuff is either unenforceable or much ado about nothing.

In any case, expects crime rates to skyrocket. After all, it is an election year.

    • What ingenuity? its not like the idiots in Sacramento can build a wall around the state and Checkpoint Charlie ever car driving in from Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada.

    • Hmmm, maybe a bulk ammo store on major interstates on the border of Cali would be a good business idea… Just like fireworks stands here in the midwest surrounding non-fireworks states… 🙂

  8. Now more pinko libs will flee California and will start flocking to Texas and start demanding we be more like the s#!thole they just left.

And for everyone else commenting, it’s not “if” hitlery gets elected, but “when”.

      • that is exactly where you are misinformed.

CA makes a stoopid law. Law abiding citizens follow it. Crime goes up as those who do not follow the law have a field day. The pinkos who voted for the idiots that made the law get scared and leave because crimes. Settle down in a nice area that has less crime, because safe! For their children! A new generation is born and votes!

Coming soon to a town near you! California and New York’s problems are the root cause, not a side effect. Liberal Socialists are out breeding me 10 to 1 and my taxes are paying for it….. To add insult to injury, I will likely have to become a felon by no other choice than adhering to my enumerated Civil rights, and I don’t have a Pot Farm or meth lab to pay the dam legal fees! I guess there is pimping out underage girls, & ect, but it don’t appeal to me.

        tough decisions ahead.

    • Six months ago, I would have agreed with you. Now, everything is upside down and backwards from the way it was “supposed” to be.

Hillary was was supposed to sail to the nomination with token resistance while the Republican party tore itself apart at a contested convention.

Instead, Donald Trump IS the Republican nominee in all but name and the party is lining up behind him. By the time of the convention, the Republican party will be a unified front.

Meanwhile, Hillary is still flailing around with a grumpy old man who won’t even call himself a Democrat. And, while he won’t have the pledged delegates to win outright, he will have enough to force a contested convention. There’s no way the Democrats will allow an independent socialist to.be their nominee, so Hillary will get the nomination. But she’ll come out of the convention bruised and battered while having alienated the Sanders supporters she needs to win.

A Clinton presidency is still probable, but is becoming less likely all the time.

  9. All the bills marked “AB” are Assembly bills, in their second house.

Those may go to a committee to concur in amendments made in the Senate; if that is not needed, they go to Governor Brown.

The bills marked “SB” now go to the Assembly, where presumably they will follow the usual path of Public Safety Committee, Appropriations Committee, Assembly Floor – and having cleared those low bars, on to the Governor.

  10. What saddens me the most is the joy and jubilation these politicians have at freely handing over rights people died to provide them.

As for the whole public safety statement, the primary role of a legislature is NOT to keep the public safe but rather to defend and preserve rights.

    • “Public Safety” is never about keeping people safe. It’s about control.

I doubt anyone who lived through the French Revolution under Maximilien Robespierre’s Committee of Public Safety felt very safe.

  11. If I was entrepreneurial, and lived in a bordering state I would purchase large warehouse facilities bordering California in Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona creating very secure storage facilities where the CA residents could store their magazines, guns, ammo, and they could order additional ammo to be delivered to the facility from the facility to be stored there. For a moment there I lost my mind in thinking they could also order guns but that would be a bit of a BATFE problem. Steal the idea if you have the ability to pull it off for CA residents. I don’t know if the ammo would also be an issue. Might just be a stupid idea but hey, I’ll bet there is someone else out there who had the same thought.

  12. “While you may own a 30-round magazine in California, you can’t legally put more than ten rounds in it.”

    No, that’s inaccurate.

It’s the physical capacity that is an issue in some bits of the law, not how many rounds are actually in the magazine.

Since 2001, it has generally been illegal to transfer mags with 11 or more rounds capacity to non-LEO.

Also, in the same bill, was the creation of ‘by-feature assault weapons’, where a semiautomatic center-fire rifle with a fixed magazine became a ‘CA assault weapon’. That turns out to be critical for the folks who decided to go the ‘bullet button’ route for their rifles – a ‘bullet button’ in effect creates a ‘fixed magazine’. Using a perfectly legal 20 or 30 round magazine in a rifle with a bullet button manufactures a ‘CA assault weapon’.

California is really more bizarre than can be expressed in less than a pamphlet.

  13. Some of these bills will make it to the Governor’s desk, and he will veto some of those that make it, but probably not all. The DeLeon ammo bill is probably DOA on his desk; it has been there before and been vetoed. Moreover, as I said yesterday, it is not an ammo or ammo buyer registration, as the only information transmitted to the state is the name and identifiers of the purchaser that is checked against a prohibited persons list. Amounts and calibers are not reported. Newsome’s ammo ballot initiative is far far worse, as it requires licensure, background checks, and ammo buying reports to be recorded and kept by the DOJ (which by the by has neither the staff nor the computer infrastructure needed to accommodate the issuance of licenses by January 1, 2018, much less to keep track of all of the ammo purchases.) There are three competing bullet button bill bans, and obviously only one will survive. The worst of them bans all centerfire semi-auto rifles with detachable mags, so no Minis, no M1 Carbines, etc. I suspect that Brown would veto that one, but I suspect that will be one that washes out before it gets to his desk, unless the Legislature decides to send them all in the hopes that one will survive.

And so it goes. It is a truly horrible year here, with only a flashlight at the end of the tunnel. The Legislature and the current DOJ, since neither can outright ban guns, are intent on limiting the number of available arms and the cost and availability of ammunition. Because, of course, more guns means more crime. (Some people never learn.)

  14. “Irish democracy” and make enforcing the laws a political act on the part of the police. Law suits and hunger strikes should be the order of the day. Go after any officer enforcing these laws personally and in the civil courts. Publish their names and where they live. Publish their personal information and family details. Or lay down and take it.

    • “Go after any officer enforcing these laws personally”

In keeping with the Irish theme, the royal irish constabulary took and dished out alot of hits. I think deputizing a bunch of dudes to arrest crops who would enforce unconstitutional laws is the highest of high ground you could hope for in this street fight. And it will be a street fight or it will not be one at all. As pointed out already Califus is the canary in the coal mine when it comes to America and both are beyond rehab by mere voting.

  15. This manner of legislating by sticking it to the other side is a very bad idea, and only leads to the further Balkanization of our country. Coastal states pass gun-control laws that make felons out of ordinary citizens, and those laws are, for the most part, completely ignored (see the registration rates of AW in NY and CT following Sandy Hook follies, and the local Sheriffs’ responses to those laws). Meanwhile, fly-over states strengthen the gun laws already on the book and they make it a point to recognize the 2A for what it says. If the Supreme Court continues to bury its head in the sand with regards to this issue, I fear that it will unfortunately come to a head, and not in a pleasant manner.

    • You are 100% right. These bills are not about public safety but rather punishing voters who oppose them through the power of government. That is the true nature of tyranny.

      Sic Semper Tyranus

    • Balkanization is a good thing. Loose confederation of largely independent states and all. The never have been, nor ever will be, any “we” with any business making decisions regarding what others ought to be doing. Splinter it into the political equivalent of another Somalia, and it will be the most positive development since the revolution.

  16. I give up.
Im not going to flame all Kalifornians. The words don’t have to be said. But I am feeling very sorry for them.
The freedom loving ones anyway. The few that are there. You do in the long term get what the majority have asked for in your elected officials.
Most there seem to me to be living in a dream. Not in the real world. Too much pot being smoked there has clouded too many brains..
Not a single one of these so called laws serves any thing to prevent crime. Just creates future criminals in the states eye. Nor will it change one criminals intents. Like NY , Connetisuxit and MerryLand. May the big man upstairs take care of you. And to all the now future felons this will only create. Get out of that stinking sinking ship you call a state. Suffer, or shoot back. These seem to be your only real choices if you truly love personal freedoms.
    Oye veh………..

  17. Need some Pink Pistols with rainbow flags to camp out at the statehouse and governors residence. Bring in the only allies we have that Cali will pay attention to.

  18. The derp is strong today. The suckhole on the river strikes again. Wonder what that projected sea level rise will do to the delta…. And it’s all because most people aren’t even these jokers, it’s because they don’t give a fornication.

Slowly finding the money to move away. I hear there are some good biotech/pharma companies up around Bozeman and Missoula.

  19. As a California resident since birth I refuse to leave and concede the state that brought Ronald Reagan to communist liberal trash. I am not a gun owner but I fully support those who are. The new gun restrictions are nothing but an end-around of the 2nd amendment. Time to make dissenting voices heard and take on the tyranny before it’s too late.

      • Then you need to use larger caliber “words”… May I suggest 338 Lapua? It’s guaranteed to make your voice heard from over a mile away when used properly.

        • Enough of those always work. But more realistically (not realistically in this age of indoctrinated sycophants, just more so), hit them economically. Get rid of the Fed and it’s willingness and ability to rob productive people on behalf of leeches, and the main industries in California (real estate and finance/stock appreciation) will crumble like a card house. Movies, music, tech, ag and other real industries will be fine, as they create genuine value (in between hanging out with Chavez 🙂 ). But the legal and financial parasites getting their well deserved comeuppance, will bring some more humbleness to the place. Along with much less of an ability to project political and cultural power nationally.

  20. As a california resident who is also a small government guy, it just kills me we have to pray for the federal government to come to our rescue.

All the citizens who are slightly right of Joseph Stalin are essentially hostage of the government in this state.

I know i know, i hear it all the time, “Move”. So easy to say, but everyone who could easily (or even those with moderate difficulty) HAVE!

The only tax paying people left in this state are hostages.

Hostages of a family situation that they can not get out of.
Hostages of a job that they can’t abandon without suffering catastrophic fiscal consequences.
Hostages of a house they can not abandon from the housing collapse.

That is who is, for the most part, who is left in this state. Even the liberals mostly fall into this group.

Well, there is a forth group,

    …Welfare recipients.

    • Totally sucks man. Not everyone can just up and leave, for all the reasons you spelled out. Maybe if enough people do somehow they will get the point? Man, i dont know.. What a sh!tty situation. A lot of people stuck behind enemy lines with this.

  21. Hold up, somebody correct me if I am missing something here: “Bullet buttons” as I understand them are a device that requires an additional tool, such as a bullet tip, to change a magazine on AR style rifle. They were mandated on modern sporting rifles sold in California as part of a previous gun control measure so that magazine changes could not be done quickly. Now (among other things), bullet buttons are banned because they are too dangerous? They banned a feature that they mandated as a previous gun control measure? What the hell?

    • They were a feature added to the EBR (Evil Black Rifle) because all the cops and law enforcement were griping because they couldn’t keep their weapon. So the legislature, that was only marginally infested with dumb at the time, created a bullet button.

The theory was that by doing this it made it a “fixed magazine” and therefore legal. Of course it was not a fixed magazine, removing the mag was still quite easy.

By banning the bullet button, they cause the weapon to fall under the unconstitutional laws that govern removable magazines.

They are making rifles with detachable magazines illegal…again.

    • ““Bullet buttons” as I understand them are a device that requires an additional tool, such as a bullet tip, to change a magazine on AR style rifle. They were mandated on modern sporting rifles sold in California as part of a previous gun control measure so that magazine changes could not be done quickly.”

      Ah, no.

For the full story, see the Calguns Foundation Wiki, WAYBACK version: https://web.archive.org/web/20151027144336/http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Non_detachable_magazines

Short version: the 1999 bill (SB 23) that created ‘by-feature assault weapons’ was a slightly different arrangement than the Federal AW ban.

A centerfire semiautomatic rifle (the context here) with a ‘detachable magazine’ and a feature – pistol grip, flash hider, folding or collapsible stock – was defined to be an ‘assault weapon’.

But ‘detachable’ was defined in the regulations as you write.

Some smart guys at Calguns figured out that a replacement for the standard magazine release, that prevented using a finger to drop a mag but required a tool of some kind (I use a small screwdriver), was NOT ‘detachable’ by that definition.

As soon as the Legislature cut off the authority for the DOJ to add weapons to the listed ‘assault weapons’, we had a way to keep a pretty-standard AR or AK with all the usual bits. Add a bullet-button, avoid the detachable magazine, keep the nice features – no ‘assault weapon’, no silliness about registering as ‘assault weapons’, which we can’t do these days anyway.

But, as I noted above, an alternative definition for ‘assault weapon’ was a centerfire semiautomatic rifle, with a fixed magazine that held 11 or more rounds.

Since the bullet button pretty clearly avoided the ‘detachable magazine’ issue, it seems that that had to make bullet-button-equipped rifles /fixed/ magazine weapons.

So, all the nice grandfathered 30-round mags (PC does not prohibit possession, just buying/selling/importing/manufacturing) cannot be used in a bullet-button-equipped rifles – that would be ‘manufacturing an assault weapon’.

      But nobody /requires/ a bullet button; it’s a work-around.

      • It’s not a work-around, because that would imply the legislature accidentally left a loophole that’s been exploited. It embodies assiduous compliance with the letter of the law, with the interpretation confirmed by a DOJ opinion.

  22. I’m not going to spend money or donate to people who won’t help themselves nor throw money down a rathole that’s already been lost to the progressives. I’ll spend money to preserve rights here and in other states where we still believe in freedom and personal responsibility.

Not to say I won’t help a neighbor in need, but letting someone ransack your house then coming to my house and asking if you can stay there with a few of your friends is not a solution.

    • This is why we need to fight this at the national level. Federal preemption of all state firearms bans would be a good start. There’s precedent for it as well. For the foreseeable future, we still have the legislative horsepower to push through such a bill and cutting the legs out from under state level gun grabber organizations is a great way to bring millions of people into the fold.

      • Asking the federal government to fix a state problem leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but at this point California is so far gone, the only other option is mass civil disobedience.

  23. Nation wide I feel like yes, we probably are winning the war. But living in California makes me feel like a sailor at Pearl Harbor. We are getting crammed over here.

  24. Dear overreaching legislative anticonstitutionalists:

I have an answer to your recent affront to my rights.

    NO.

    Whatcha gonna do about it?

  25. This is just so absurd. We need a political lash back on this. My biggest beef in all of it is how they can just summarily make legally purchased assets, illegal. People don’t get over that. It’s straight up communism.

  26. Scary. Every day this country gets closer and closer to a revolution or uprising. Being human, I hope to God that it doesn’t happen, that we will somehow stop this incursion into our rights, but sadly, I fear it is becoming inevitable. On the bright side, though, California is disarming itself, so it ought to collapse fairly quickly.

  27. So all those bullet button ARs are going to be illegal and they’ll have to get rid of them. Where? Who would want one if you don’t live in a state where they are required?

    • Not to make excuses for this, but the bullet button is easily removed & replaced with a ‘regular’ mag release. So, those ARs could potentially be sold out of state & the new owners could retrofit them for normal use. I will remove mine after I move this summer (but I assembled mine in the first place).

  28. Well, I guess North Korea knows where to attack. Behind every blade of grass in CA, there is a special little flower.

Maybe it’s time to just give up on CA and offer that as the bastion of gunlessness to any anti-gun nut who wants more gun control. Instead of us moving to flee their BS, maybe it is THEY who should move – to CA – and they can have all of the gun control that their little hearts desire. They got what they want. Now they can all live in CA and swim in their bastion of government controlled sheepism. They can all drive white Priuses and live in padded rooms, so they feel all warm and safe and fuzzy… until the criminals take over completely and they realize that it was all a big damn lie, sold by politicians and parroted by the media until their little brains got conditioned to just the way they wanted them.

  29. Man you guys are sure missing the point. It’s not, “You Californians got what you deserved, electing the politicians you have.”

It’s the fact that Constitution identifies certain rights that cannot be abridged via legislation, initiatives, executive orders, etc. All of these should be struck down, if passed.

The founders of this country were well aware of the tyranny of the majority (John Adams coined the term) and took strides to combat it.

  30. It’s not even an exaggeration anymore. CA is a Socialist Republic. This only divides us more and takes us closer to civil war. Some may think that to be dramatic, but all that it takes is for one State to say No More, and the whole show blows up from there. Then it’s not Joe gun nut running out his front door screaming molon labe. It’s straight up civil war and people and States start taking sides. I dont see the States remaining United forever. There is too much geographical polarization and it’s only getting worse. This is all very sad.

  31. “The men I knew who were friends of mine, whose wives I drank coffee with in my home, and whose children played with mine, are not the ones that need controlled.”

And yet these same are the ones who seek to control you and see you disarmed. Your friends, neighbors, co-workers, family –no use denying this, and claiming it’s some faceless ‘they’ who is after freedom-minded Californians. The majorities pursuing these disarmament policies, not to mention similar control agendas in innumerable other facets of life, put the lie to it being some kind of limited, if insurmountable problem. Law-abiding gun owners are strangers in an increasingly strange land, there, and will increasingly be treated as inhuman monsters who can be preyed upon without consequence (because the law-abiding by definition have limitless patience with the law). It’s already been proven they lack the votes to effect much, law enforcement has become a sworn enemy at many levels of government, the courts typically feel free to rule against gun owners with impunity, and your number willing and able to actually protest (let alone resist via civil or uncivil disobedience) is clearly not enough to result in change. Ballot box, jury box, and cartridge box are essentially closed to you, and it is only a matter of time before they take your ability to vote with your feet as well.

By all means, keep pretending you can still claw your way back to the other side of the looking glass, with your dwindling numbers, resources, and options. The solution, if there is one, will be external.

  32. I live in CA and I vote based on the 2nd Amendment. Both my Assemblyman and State Senator voted against these measures. Much good that did. I have 4 yrs until I can retire. I spent some time today pricing houses in Southern Utah on the web. With what I’ll have in equity when I retire I’ll be able to buy a nice house in a pro gun state.

No, I won’t register or turn in my rifle. However, I may move it out of state for a few years. At this point in my life I’m not going to jail over a stupid law. I’ll ride it out and then move out.

  33. I can’t understand why progressive liberals in states like California respect some rights like gay marriage, abortion, Muslims freedom to be anti-feminist, etc but my constitutionally protected right of gun rights are to be taken away?

I Pity the honest working freedom loving Americans left in California, because there are still plenty of you. Anyone reading this would likely be welcome where I live if you have the ability to move.

  34. I feel bad for the few good people in California, but we need to erect a wall around it and require a logic, history, and intelligence test for anyone who who wants to leave.

  35. My wife, son and I left California for Texas in 2006 and never looked back. We have zero regrets about having moved, even though I left my mother and brothers behind……who by the way, voted FOR the politicians who are forcing all this crapulence on them. My brother phoned me the other day. He wants to buy an old 1980s lower-end Ferrari that he found for sale in Dallas, for a restoration project, and he asked if he could register it to my address in Texas. “Why?” I asked. He said “because all the California smog equipment requirements to bring the car into compliance would be prohibitively expensive.” I said, “Dude…..YOU VOTED FOR THOSE SHMUCKS!!! Now you want to go behind their backs???? Don’t you like what you voted for?”

I’m 63 years old, and I lived most of my life right in SoCal before moving to Texas in 2006. Believe me. I get it. Yes, it is HARD to move. But if you value your liberty ENOUGH, it is harder to stay. You know the story about the frog that is SLOWLY boiled alive? That’s what California is like. What you californians may not notice if you don’t spend some time living somewhere else is that California has become a shit-hole. I mean, it is REALLY dirty there. Every time I’ve been back to visit family (I’m actually driving out there for a 3 week visit 4 days from now), I feel like I’ve traveled to a 3rd world country. The very air is oppressive.

Get out. Come to Texas where we have jobs AND liberty AND a lower cost of living AND cleaner air AND etc., etc., etc. We NEED conservatives/libertarians to move here because we are being inundated with liberals who are going where the work is. We need them to be outnumbered by right-minded people moving here. Get out. Take your skills with you AND your income. Let someone else pay for all that crap.

    • Agreed. I’m ex-Californian but now all Texan. I’ve raised my kids here and taught them to value our freedom. Now however we have too many of the wrong type moving from California and NY to Texas and bringing their cancerous values and voting habits to our great state. Texans need to wake up to this invasion, stop being so nice and rollout the unwelcome mat to those who would do to us what they have done to CA.

  36. Da, we must march in total agreement with our glorious leaders in the Sacramento Politburo or eventually we will receive time in Pelican Bay Gulag or worse yet, bullet in head. Rejoice and be happy fellow citizens, we will now be safe from these new laws.

  37. If the California Supreme Court fails to overturn this blaspheme of a law, then I shall turn my back on the citizens of California. They are no longer American to me, but rather enemies of the state. Should a magnitude 10 earthquake strike … I will not render aid. May eternal “bleep” be upon any traitorous state which turns its back on our constitutional and God-given rights.

    • Actually it would be more accurate to say that the state government betrayed the ideals of the Constitution. But judging from the rest of your comment you don’t seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway.

  38. >people won’t get on the trains

    1. The holocaust is mostly a myth
    2. Jews are the ones passing the gun control laws
    3. The people put on trains were subversive

    • 1. The holocaust is mostly a myth

What an utter load of shit. Try telling it to a few friends of mine who lost family members.

  39. As a NY resident I could leave my state and move if I so choose. However, that is what the democrats want. Why should I give up my home because they don’t want me to own a black rifle with a 30 round mag?

Since our Safe Act was enacted, I’ve fought tooth and nail to get it repealed. Go to rallies, talk to community members to help them realize this is an unconstitutional law, and most importantly practicing non compliance. Statistically speaking approximately only around 5% of New York firearms owners actually complied with the Safe Act.

I never registered nor butchered my firearms to appease our tyrant of a Governor.

I never sold my normal capacity magazines. And I continue to acquire more and distribute them to other like minded NY patriots.

It amazes me how even local law enforcement doesn’t care what you do. I personally know of 2 police officers who have FFLs, that build/sell traditional AR-15s. It seems only State Police actually cares to enforce the law.

I am not advocating doing anything illegal. But it is up to the individual if they choose to A: Surrender and hand over your rights. B: Move out of state. Or C: Stay and fight.

Me? I’m staying to fight. I wear my Come and Take It shirt with pride. Because I am physically and mentally prepared for whatever comes next.

  40. As a Floridian I haven’t bought California citrus just on economic principle. The only attack on the fascists that will cause any casualties or notice is an economic one. If 100 million gun owners would boycott all fruits, vegetables, software, movies, video games and any other product that you can name that’s made or produced in California that will have an impact and may force the politicians there to listen. There are alternatives to all that I just listed if you look.

    I’ll start now.

  41. Of course it passed. SB277 passed last year despite significant grass public protest. CA is the blueprint for the USA moving forward.

  42. Import 3rd World people and get 3rd world gun legislation. Libertarians wax poetic about muh cattle cars but in truth their torment will be much more banal. Little tax hikes here and there, crime that seems get qualitatively worse, more places needing bars on the windows, etc. Great Diversity is all the voting base hardcore leftists need. As long as the gibsmedats flow nobody complains about the wonkier policies. There will be no resistance or heroic last stand. Conservatives will grumble, hero-cops will get their exceptions, and senators will smuggle guns. Welcome to Calizuela.

  43. I’m traveling to Austin next week for a day of job interviews Friday, and some local exploring Saturday. If all goes well, we’ll soon be refugees, a family of happy escapees.

As we arrive and get situated, you’ll see our California license plates on the streets, at least until I can get their Texas replacements. Please don’t resent us as trying to bring along with us the progressive dysfunction described in this bulletin. You’ll recognize us from those displaced utopians by the ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ stickers.

  44. The ballot box has failed. There aren’t enough of you to make a difference that way. In Prog Cali, the mob rules.

Good Californians have 3 options. Turn in your illegal guns and mags like an obedient prole, vote with your feet, or refuse to comply. There is no painless option left. The third could end up with you in prison or worse.

    What are your rights worth?

    • It’s mob rule in a democracy. Consensus is easy to manufacture. The founding fathers understood this, and attempted to form a republic instead of a democracy.

  45. If every gun lover in Texas moved to Kalifornia, its wouldn’t even make a dent in the progressive voting block.

However, If every freedom-minded Californian up and moved to Texas, it would counter all of the progressive Californians that have already moved here from turning Texas into Kalifornia.

You can stay in Kali, and never have any chance against the welfare recipients and hiptser/hippies voting away your money and rights, or you can move to a State (not necessarily Texas) where you can actually make an impact helping to preserve what HASN’T ALREADY BEEN LOST.

TL;DR – Labor for forbidden fruit, or enjoy the fruits of your labor – choose.

  46. A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots! AND TYRANTS AND BUREAUCRAPS!!!

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but
not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might
live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or
to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might
live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a
check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not
to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that
was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from
owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty
F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but
not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make
you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is
 run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a
wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman
in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head
searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but
is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions
of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his
teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class
in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation
that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more
government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with
Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free
cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses
but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to
provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment
checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was
diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation
that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest
big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a
wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government
forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself
makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the media panders to your openly socialist leader while the IRS targets groups with dissenting views— you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government ‘cracks down’ on legal gun sales to law abiding citizens while secretly supplying illegal guns to Mexican drug cartels— you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your local government (Chicago) outlawed gun ownership for ‘the safety of its citizens’ and now boasts the worst murder rate in the country — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

    What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America?

This was borrowed from another blog, authors unknown, please spread it far and wide!

  47. I’m leaving in 2 years. I was born and raised in Northern Northern-California. Remember, it is a big State and should be six. http://www.sixcalifornias.com This State has way too many people from other States here. If you all would have stayed home we might have been able to win these battles. Then the first thing you do is blame previous Californians for your States problems. We are leaving for a reason. Why would we want to make our new state Kalifornia?

  48. We the people voted them in office I say lets vote them out or run them out for criminal acts of office
