“Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence,” nytimes.com reports, unfamiliar with the expression “I don’t think that word means what you think it means.” Apparently Everytown will be “an organization he hopes can eventually outmuscle the National Rifle Association.” How’s that you ask? “The plans call for a restructuring of the gun control groups he funds, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. They will be brought under one new umbrella group called Everytown for Gun Safety.” I reckon Mayor Mike’s re-branding exercise spells the rapid diminution of the most effective and dangerous gun control organization in America. By that I mean . . .

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America's Shannon Watts and Mayors Against Illegal Guns' Michael Bloomberg

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDA). Who else could ring-up the media and instantly huff what Margaret Thatcher called “the oxygen of publicity”? Not Mayors Against Illegal Guns (thanks in part to its members criminal activities). And not, I’m thinking, Guns for Everyone – I mean Everytown for Gun Safety.

For one thing, who’s gonna be the spokesperson? Mayor Bloomberg? Not to put too fine a point on it, Mayor Bloomberg’s a nasty piece of work. Americans don’t like big city bullies, which is as good a description of Michael Bloomberg as I can muster. But don’t take my word for it . . .

Mr. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, said gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda — even Democrats whose positions otherwise align with his own.

“They say, ‘We don’t care. We’re going to go after you,’ ” he said of the N.R.A. “ ‘If you don’t vote with us we’re going to go after your kids and your grandkids and your great-grandkids. And we’re never going to stop.’ ”

He added: “We’ve got to make them afraid of us.” .  . .

Methinks Mr. Bloomberg’s watched too many Godfather movies. Now that Shannon Watts has been subsumed, marginalized and bought off, here’s a list of Mayor Mike’s new capos:

Underscoring his desire to work with both parties, Mr. Bloomberg is bringing on a new advisory board with prominent Republican and Democratic figures. Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and Homeland Security secretary under President George W. Bush; Eli Broad, the philanthropist; Warren Buffett, the investor; and Michael G. Mullen, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under both Mr. Bush and President Obama, will all be board members.

What gives this story life: Bloomberg’s money. Specifically, he’s switching his anti-gun financial focus from campaign-related ads to “often-unseen field operations that have been effective for groups like the N.R.A. in driving single-issue, like-minded voters to the polls.” And you thought a boat was a hole in the water into which you dump money. No way is that enough cash to affect change in the political landscape regarding firearms freedom. The Times is less incredulous.

The $50 million could be significant: In recent years, the N.R.A. has spent only $20 million annually on political activities. The political groups affiliated with the billionaire Koch brothers, who are seeking to help Republicans take over the Senate, have spent about $30 million in the last six months

The group will zero in on 15 target states, from places like Colorado and Washington State, where gun control initiatives have advanced recently, to territory that is likely to be more hostile like Texas, Montana and Indiana. They have set a goal of signing up one million new supporters this year on top of the 1.5 million they already have.

Wait, what? Bloomberg’s gun control groups have 1.5 million supporters? I don’t think so – unless you define “supporters” as Facebook Likes and names on a mailing list. Combined. Multiplied by 10. Seriously, why would the Times repeat that obvious lie? For the same reason they end their announcement article with this gem:

Mr. Bloomberg was introspective as he spoke, and seemed both restless and wistful. When he sat down for the interview, it was a few days before his 50th college reunion. His mortality has started dawning on him, at 72. And he admitted he was a bit taken aback by how many of his former classmates had been appearing in the “in memoriam” pages of his school newsletter.

But if he senses that he may not have as much time left as he would like, he has little doubt about what would await him at a Judgment Day. Pointing to his work on gun safety, obesity and smoking cessation, he said with a grin: “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

That’s as close to a dictionary definition of hubris as you’ll find. No matter how much money you have, pride goeth before a fall. And for that may the Lord make us truly grateful.

    • Bloomers just boasted that he’s going to heaven & at the head of the line, too. He’ll approach the great white throne and demand, “You’re in my seat”.

I happen to think Bloomie’s an atheist & says that just to annoy gun owning believers. His monstrous ego could never admit to the existence of a Higher Being.

If he’s so powerful, why doesn’t Nannie B. invade the local Cabela’s and start knocking over display stands & hurling pig’s blood?

      • “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

Well, I am an atheist my own self, and I’m pretty sure with the “If there is a god…” statement he’s pretty much blown the initial entry interview.

But I agree with the rest of what you said. Perhaps Micromanaging Mikey just tarred the gun control movement with the “Godless Communist Atheist” brush, which would benefit the gun rights movement.

Sigh. Why do so many atheists have to be assholes in public? Madelyn Murry O’Hare, Michael Newdow and now Bloomberg.

        • I am a (bad) Christian with many atheist and agnostic friends. Many are not bad in private but too many of the poor examples, just like people of my faith, tend to be the ones in the spotlight.

      • “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24)

        • ^ You win the internet today.

I’m not religious perse however there is a lot of wisdom in all the great books.

    • What I really don’t like about Bloomberg’s approach is that he is trying to purge the Democrats of anyone who doesn’t follow his line. That is probably the most dangerous situation possible. Given the repercussions in CO, I’m pretty sure that they won’t be as successful as they want, but they will spend a lot of money trying. If we let them, that will be the death kneel of the RKBA. Although I really don’t see eye to eye with them fiscally, thank god for all those blue-collar union (D) workers who love their guns. Let’s hope they can keep their party in line.

      • I’m sorry, I’m confused. Are you saying that the successes of the NRA and the protection of 2A rights in this country of late has been dependent on gun-friendly Dem politicians? Best I can tell, the only reason any Dem politico even acts gun-friendly is that his or her constituents overwhelmingly demand it. And if that’s the case, Bloomie’s money ain’t gonna change the constituents’ minds, so the pol will either have to tell Bloomie to take his dough elsewhere or the party will lose the spot altogether.

    • “Underscoring his desire to work with both parties…”

Translated: ‘Underscoring his willingness to bribe or punish both parties as necessary’.

    • Yeah, let’s have Bloomberg trot out his “grass roots” group of left-wing, chattering class activists from NYC, Chicago and Frisco. That will surely convince bedrock America to give up their guns. Maybe he can get Lindsay Lohan or Chelsea Clinton as his spokesidiot.

    • …[He] “seemed both restless and wistful.”

Translated to his actual true state, ‘impatient’ and ‘domineering’.

  1. One thing he and the nyt does not get: you don’t spend $50 million building a grass roots organization.

That’s not “grass roots.” But words don’t mean things in his world anyway, so I’m not surprised.

      • Im no tea partier, however I have met a quite a few at rallies and meet ups. curious about them I watched a documentary. most of the documentary put forward the point that they were all fools, and that it was in no way “grass roots” because the funding to start the tea party groups came from the koch brothers (for whom I have no love) among other conservative interest parties.

the entire point of the film seemed to be to deride the tea party for “not being grass roots” and its followers just a load of uninformed rubes too dumb to form a thought of their own.

but THIS, this is ACTUALLY grass roots, because its got the “liberally progressive” stamp right?

it literally makes me nauseous to have considered myself progressive, or left leaning. (and yet I am still liberal on most issues aside from guns)

        integrity is an endangered species

        • welcome to the club. I used to be a progressive/liberal, or at least I thought I was.

the gun control push, along with the epic corruption of the modern democratic party (obamacare, f&f, etc.), have largely pushed me completely away from that ideology and political party.

I still don’t agree with conservatives on everything, especially on religious issues and drug use, so I probably qualify as a libertarian today.

I agree that it makes me nauseous to believe that I used to buy their crap. I see progressive/liberal leaders as the liars that they are today, and I’m saddened by how many people still buy their shtick.

  2. “Everytown, USA. Where grazing unicorns fart rainbows and pegasus fly you beneath sublime waterfalls. And nobody anywhere has a gun!”

    • But there’s a real problem with those semi-auto assault crossbows … and let’s not forget those high-capacity quivers…

      • Nobody likes dead kids!!!! If you want to make a difference, start with the things that are responsible for killing the most. You’d have to ban pools, cars, fire, plastic bags, bicycles, household cleaning products & other household poisons, and some years a couple of other things before you got to accidental death by firearm. Except firearms also save hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. every year. Pools, bags, bicycles have no such utility. Since they are only for fun and recreation and there is NO Right or constitutional protection for them, BAN THEM. If you’re willing to ban guns to save a dozen kids, you should be willing to ban pools to save thousands.

Pretty soon we’ll be able to get rid of all of the things that are dangerous and we’ll be living extremely long, happy lives locked inside our government-provided houses with padded walls and no sharp objects and everything we need provided for us.

      • megan F said: “rather have a rainbow shitting stallion than a dead kid.”

What a perfect comment to illustrate how the delusional-minded and politically brainwashed believe in fairy tales.

      • I expect, with a few exceptions, pretty much everyone would agree, Megan. Problem is, there ain’t no such thing as rainbow-defecating stallions, and all your good wishes and Bloomie’s money won’t change that. And you actually know that, which makes your comment pretty worthless, no?

  3. All a little Bloomberg office in every town will accomplish is to reinforce pro-2nd areas and display a benign shop window in already anti-2nd areas. Is there anything more patronizing and insulting than a list of hyper-elite extremely wealthy people chanting “we know what’s best for you!”

Bloomberg is destined to fail if only for his severe detachment from reality by virtue of his position in society.

    • “Bloomberg is destined to fail if only for his severe detachment from reality by virtue of his position in society.”

That is one of the most outstanding sentences that I have ever read. I tip my hat to you sir.

  4. Michael R. Bloomberg…plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network

I don’t think Mr Bloomberg quite grasps the meaning of the term “grassroots”.

  5. It’s simple. You can say what you want about NRA but even Bloomberg knows they are by far the biggest road block for anti’s. If you’re not a member join..if you are…renew…

This website gives you a discount on membership. I got it when I purchased my last Ruger
    http://www.nra.org/ruger

    • Well now, the real point about “Grass Roots” that seems to be missed is that Bloomberg thinks he can buy support with his own $50 million. The NRA does not operate on any single donor’s largess – all of the $20 million they spend on their efforts is DONATED by their membership and the vast majority of their support at individual events and lobbying efforts comes at no expense from volunteer efforts of their membership.

Aside from the slavish covering by the Liberal media outlets I doubt Bloomberg is going to get anything much he isn’t willing to pay cash for.

  6. The problem is that people who ACTUALLY care about gun control (those who have had someone close to then killed.) Are few in number. The “moms” don’t really care that much, they just need a hobby.

    • SOME of those who have had family members killed may care about gun control.

But, mostly it’s politicians and their followers (duped college professors, for example) that lean toward “control” and just use the “guns” as leverage to sell the idea.

      • College professors aren’t “duped”. They are willfully ignorant because they buy into and blindly accept the Democrat, progressive statists’ ideologies. Those progressive doctrines are embraced by lefty college professors as their own unchallenged internal philosophies.

If these so called intelligent educators are duped in any way, it’s by their own unwillingness to critically analyze their accepted positions and beliefs.

  7. Money isn’t everything Bloomy. You can’t buy out my rights from me. I’ll do what I can to ensure I keep my rights using my money and time.

Althiugh, if you want to buy my guns from me, I will sell then to you for a 10x markup. Of course what I do after that could be to buy even more guns.

    • “Money isn’t everything”?

Are you nuts? The substantial amount Herr Bloomberg brings into the fray is game changing. You think McAuliffe would have won the governor’s race in VA without Bloomberg’s help.

Sure, his ‘outsider’ money may have limited affect in some cases where the political race/vote is tightly 2A focused and pro-gun sentiment is strong, but Herr Bloomberg’s MO is to buy political seats and influence the spread of anti-gun legislation everywhere including bulwark 2A venues.

I made a decision earlier today after reading this:
      http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/04/16/bloomberg-to-spend-50m-on-new-gun-control-effort-in-challenge-to-nra/
I’m sending, unsolicited this time, another substantial donation to NRA/ILA today, and budgeting a significant monthly draw for the benefit of the NRA, which is, actually, for the benefit of myself and all gun owners. Beefing up the financial resources of our strongest and most effective political and legal advocate is the only way to curtail these anti-gun fanatics.

These grabbers are effective marketers. Why do you think Bloomberg is hoodwinking the willing coconspirators in the media, and consequentially the public, by calling his marketing and influence peddling enterprise “grass roots”?

Lots of money with effective marketing strategies with the conspiratorial help of big media are these progressive statists’ stock in trade. It’s one of the reasons they’ve been so effectively trouncing conservatives in recent years. I just hope the NRA and conservatives can get up to speed with these political marketing strategies, and overcome the hurdle of finding air-time to counter the Democrats’ and antis’ efforts on all gun issues that affect POTG.

      • Am I nuts? Nuts that I and many people like me can’t be bought out of our rights? Sure, money makes the world go round, but there are a lot of people who will not be moved by Bloomberg’s money to sell out their rights. As we saw, even with the onslaught after Sandy Hook, the federal level was not able to strip us of our rights. They won’t just cave in because they are shamed into doing it from crappy PSAs from the Bloomberg propaganda machine. There are some politicians that won’t give in to the money and vote for what’s right. A true grassroots organization will not be built from Bloomberg’s millions. What you will see are a lot of the same faces vacuuming up the millions and peddling their crap like they have been for the past few years. His money will continue to work in places that are already leaning for civilian disarmament. It will struggle in other states that dislike his “I know better than you peasants” attitude.

        • So Sixpack my take is that you don’t run much with the low information sheeple crowd that will buy into the Bloomy ads and rhetoric to vote for his favorite bought and paid politicians.

Lets just hope that crowd is comfy and apathetic enough not to be motivated to vote, either.

    • Horseapples. Money makes the world go ’round. Money IS everything, especially to the politicians Bloomberg is going to buy off.

  8. The fact that he has brought in Tom Ridge, Warren Buffet and Michael Mullen is fairly disturbing. Bloomberg is the frontman but this represents a long term effort by the establishment that actually runs the United States to disarm us citizens.

They are not going to stop and we are eventually going to end up between a rock and a hard place. Bloomberg will be dead by then but with big names like this, his legacy will live on to ruin lives and strip our descendants of their rights.

    • It does sound like a meeting of the NWO, East Coast Chapter. doesn’t it? Or a meeting of Control Freaks Anonymous. I foresee them bleeding each other to dearth for control behind Mussolini’s, I mean Mikey’s back while he’s alive, and in the open after his demise.

  9. The plans call for a restructuring of the gun control groups he funds, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. They will be brought under one new umbrella group called Everytown for Gun Safety.

    Translation:

MAIG is failing because mayors realize they were duped into belonging to a group that goes against the wishes of most of their constituencies.

    and

MDA in general and PR “expert” Shannon Watts has failed at singing the siren song of shrill harpies attempting to agitate women with emotional appeals.

Renaming a turd still stinks like a turd, Bloomberg.

    • “Renaming a turd still stinks like a turd, Bloomberg.”

Ah, but Mythbusters proved that it is indeed possible to polish a turd. I think that is what Bloomie is doing here. He may polish it up, but it is still a turd.

    • I’ll buy that, JR.

Herr Bloomberg remains as dangerous as ever. Changing his mask does not deplete his treacherous influence. It just wins him more notoriety and a chance to once again redifine the game.

  10. One man will spend $50 million to reduce rights, 1 million NRA members will spend $50 each to keep their rights. Can someone clarify which one is the grass roots organization? It’s very confusing to me.

and apparently confusing to the media and bloomberg as well

  11. This only makes what is going on in NYS all the more sweet. Roughly 1 million people in the state of NY failed to register their “assault weapons” and refuse to do so! Hey bloomie, if this crap isn’t working in your home state why do you think it will work anywhere else?!? I like to think that people are finally starting to wake up and stand up. This feeling is confirmed when I hear stories about people in CT and NY refusing to comply to illegal laws.

    • Will Bloomberg put up the billions of dollars needed to imprison non compliant gun owners? Otherwise there will be hefty tax increases needed to build new prisons and staff them.

      • Yes, but think of how this will affect the “jobs created or saved” statistic for the Obama regime!

All those “shovel ready” new prison construction projects (for Democrat contractors), people to staff the new prisons, and all those job openings those new felons leave behind when they are removed from the communities!

This would be a political windfall of epic proportions.

    • Well considering statists like Herr Bloomberg want to replace liberty and freedom with compliance and subservience, its par for the course.

  12. Do as you say but not as you do? Hey Bloomberg give up your personnel security detail and your Concealed Carry, that’s right your own firearm if you expect anyone to listen to your crap.

    • If Bloomy ever gave up his detail he might end up having an untimely encounter with Mr. Coronary or Senor infarto cerebral.

Good for us, for him not so much.

  13. This is the problem, which I’m sure Bloomberg is aware, the NRA is not a single entity. The “NRA” represents millions of gun owners. Their funds are generated by individual contributions and fees, not some billionaire who just pumps money into it to push their own agenda.

I’m sure the NRA gets money from individual companies, but they represent the people who give them money. Bloomberg is the ultimate bully. His money is his muscle and everyone who follows is more of a crony then a member. Without his money, the gun control lobby would be in trouble.

They simply don’t have the numbers on their side and they are losing. Gun control is a bigger losing issue than it was after the original Assault Weapons Ban. However, this need for statist control is so great, the whole concept of being “your betters”, that they are doubling down rather than admit defeat.

And so the fight goes on….

    • Without Herr Bloomberg’s money and contacts, the antis’ most effective assets would be their sympathetic coconspirators in the liberal press, this Democrat administration, and every violent notorious tragedy involving a gun that comes down the pike.

      Can anyone spell weak kneed?

  14. even better that Bloomy announced this right before the NRA Convention in Shannon’s backyard next week and the 2014 elections. . . . . . awesome timing, dumbass

  15. Grassroots? He is going to buy himself some grassroots? These clowns sure do love their buzzwords. The only grassroots that money can buy come in rolls and cover football fields.

      • Seriously. What a shocker. The fact that this is always the case is demonstrable proof that anti-gun policies don’t have public appeal. If ANY of these groups’ videos could garner more thumbs up than down or more positive comments than negative, they’d allow them. But they NEVER do. Everything pro-2A is fully open for discussion. I guess anti-2A and anti-1A go hand-in-hand.

You know, a lot of us gun owners and 2A-rights guys and gals talk about how the 2nd A protects all of the others. The total censorship of dissenting opinions on every anti-gun YouTube video, Facebook comment thread, Twitter account, protest rally, etc etc etc just proves that this isn’t hot air. Get rid of guns and the rest of your rights become optional, by choice of those in control.

  16. I expect that this will buy Bloomie wall to wall coverage for a few weeks. Whoopie!!! It’s his money. If he could crawl out of his echo chamber for a few days and get out into the real world he might realize that all the money in the world can’t buy peace, love and understanding. Even with all of those deep pocketed heavy hitters on the board they will fail to establish a true grassroots movement that will be effective at their stated goal of reducing gun violence. Hacking at the branches oh evil is not the same as striking the root. They just don’t get it and they will fail.

On another note, the Bundy standoff must really and truly have a lot of Bloomie’s coconspirators knickers in a bunch. Heh.

  17. Michael Bloomberg says:
But if he senses that he may not have as much time left as he would like, he has little doubt about what would await him at a Judgment Day. Pointing to his work on gun safety, obesity and smoking cessation, he said with a grin: “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

    A famous “Rabbi” retorts:
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[a] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
    .
(Rabbinical quote courtesy of the English Standard Bible – Official Bible of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod)

    • Unfortunately he has a reasonable chance in Montana. The majority of the population lives in the west where there are plenty of California and Colorado transplants. Then there are the reservations where the tribes would probably like to see the white population disarmed. Just look at our state government and senate representation– Democrat. Sure they would have a tough reelection fight but I bet they would be willing to take one for the team especially if there is a lucrative job opportunity waiting for them.

      • I honestly can’t imagine how any state where an Indian reservation is located–particularly a Plains Indian reservation–could go Dem. All they have to do is look at the reservation to see where the nanny-state party is leading us toward…Not to say it doesn’t happen (N Mex, I’m lookin’ at you…)

  18. In business when a company changes names multiple times it’s a sign of gross mismanagement and a loss of public trust. Pumping millions into that company from an outside source is a clear sign of failure. That’s if this was a business, but this isn’t a business, it’s a war. Bloomberg has (again) declared war on the NRA and everything it stands for; safety programs, education, responsible ownership, and community are the targets Bloomberg has enumerated. Bloomberg has intentions, as before, to fight that war against responsible US Citizens and their Rights because it’s not all about the NRA, it’s about the Rights the NRA protects. The NRA is an information distribution network and community and Bloomberg wants to break up that network and community to keep people in the dark, divide and conquer. He will squander his fortune fighting against the People and our Rights because we will never give in, we will never compromise, and we will continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones. You can’t fight a war against the people and win, and you sure as hell can’t call it grassroots.

    • “In business when a company changes names multiple times it’s a sign of gross mismanagement and a loss of public trust.”

So true and priceless!!! For the Internet win today!

  19. “Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network”

I don’t think he gets what “grass-roots” means.

You could never defeat an authentic grass-roots network like that of 2A supporters. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

    -D

  20. Lets use this to our advantage. Bloomberg wants “everytown for gun safety” lets get firearms courses in schools, such as Eddy Eagle, and any other firearms safety course.

The question for the mayors now that are part of EGS, why are you against firearms safety classes in schools?

  21. The submitted video clip could have just as easily been part of an NRA safety PSA. I see what he’s doing there. Classic bait and switch into restrictive laws to replace pro gun advocacy of safety. What’s next, will he co-opt Eddie Eagle to get an anti-gun message in the schools. After all, it’s for the children.

  22. So I just officially joined the NRA thanks to Michael Bloomberg. I think I’ll celebrate now by buying an extra large Coke.

    • Warren Buffett, now a “Everytown” board member is a major owner and board member @ Coke. Sorry – they just lost my business. Time to punish them where we can.

    • Buy an off-brand soda instead. If you’re in Oklahoma, maybe you can still find Jolt–“all the sugar and twice the caffeine!” LOL!

  23. “[Bloomberg] plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence,”

I wonder why they have to be motivated if they feel so strongly about the subject? Building astroturf sure is expensive. Edward Bernays would be proud.

  24. “I have earned my place in heaven.”

By the deeds of the law there shall be no flesh justified in his sight. We earn our place in hell–the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 3:23, 6:23)

For by grace are ye saved by faith, and that (salvation) is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

I sincerely hope this gets posted and not filtered. This Bloomberg article is the perfect illustration of damnable pride.

  25. $50 million for a “grass-roots” movement? More like Hanging Gardens of Babylon. A landscape-cum-inscape revealing the monumental ego of small minded man. Good grief.

  26. Don’t make a mistake about the danger this fool represents. He has the media. He has his liberal pals.
He needs to be fought, discredited and destroyed. A full attack on him and his kind. Press the fight!

  27. “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

Bloomberg never ceases to amaze me – talk about letting the mask slip! You can’t make this stuff up. I really hope his supporters see this for what it is. This guy just went from frustrating to truly terrifying – he’s a true believer who sees his work as righteous, and he believes that he knows better than the rest of us. He’s going to force us all to do what HE thinks is right, AND he thinks he will go so far as to be rewarded in heaven for it. I just don’t have words for this kind of hubris….

    • I am not sure hubris is the right word. I read somewhere once that 4 billion is the approximate net worth where people tend to become detached from reality.

    • “[Bloomberg is] a true believer who sees his work as righteous, and he believes that he knows better than the rest of us. He’s going to force us all to do what HE thinks is right, AND he thinks he will go so far as to be rewarded in heaven for it.”

That is an incredibly profound and important observation. And that is an excellent example of tyranny of the worst kind and why we must never be disarmed. Today, Bloomberg is telling us that we must not drink 16 ounce soft drinks with sugar. Tomorrow, Bloomberg is telling us how to spend our money or how many children we can have or worse.

And don’t think for one second that Bloomberg would not use government agents to enforce his “righteous judgments” if he had the ability to do so.

      • “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

― C.S. Lewis, God in the Dock: Essays on Theology (Making of Modern Theology)

This, combined with Mikey’s fortune, makes him considerably worse than the average gun-grabbing mayor.

        • He’s a gungrabber with a gold card. Not so much a horse of a different color, as he is just another jackass.

We’ve all seen guys try to buy friends, family, respect and women. It never really works. It just puts on an appearance for so long as the money spigot flows. I hope the various consultants, community organizers, and professional outside agitators he employs take him for every dime he’s worth, with nothing to show for it.

A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place.

        • I am positive this is not the first time that CS Lewis quote has been used to describe Bloomberg. I thought of it when I first heard this story on NPR. I also thought that Bloomberg is going to straight to hell and not heaven.

“L’enfer est plein de bonnes volontés et désirs”

    • Hmm…

      Matthew 19:16-24 provides a clue…

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

      18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother, and ‘love your neighbor as yourself. ”

20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

  28. His money will certainly be a factor, especially since he won’t stop at 50 million. Too bad there’s no billionaire willing to spend a fraction of his fortune in a single-minded support of the 2nd Amendment. Or is there?

    • There does not have to be, really.

30 million gun owners giving $50 each is over a billion.

But, it’s more subtle than that, even. It’s about what you get for the money you spend…a buying efficiency if you will.

Read not too long ago (here probably) that the anti’s outspent our side by something like a factor of 17 on tv ads, and they still lost big in that particular effort.

Bloomberg has already sunk a lot of money…a LOT of money…into MDA and it’s attempt at generating emotion for his policies. And that has failed miserably.

I’m not saying that it’s impossible for his billions to influence the course of events, but I am saying that “mind share” means something and his dollars and our dollars are not equal in this particular culture war.

That he thinks his money will work says a lot about, well, how he thinks.

      • And if some of his “pocket money” finds its way into some “grassroots” politicians’ pockets, there’s always the alternative media and the Interwebz.

  29. I love how that first video conveys that its somehow our fault that poor kid found daddys handgun in a shoebox under then bed.

  30. This segment of video is a bit sickening, using kids as props. Wait, that has served the Antis so well
    in the past, hasn’t it?
And earning your way into Heaven? Epic fail, Bloomie.

  31. “Michael R. Bloomberg … plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence”

And yet Bloomberg is calling his new network Everytown for Gun Safety. So which is it? Is the new network about gun safety or “gun violence”?

In other words the new organization is just a big con job. Well, pretty much everyone that I know despises con artists. Something tells me that is going to backfire (no pun intended) on Bloomberg’s new network.

  32. As much as I dislike the NRA, Bloomberg forgets that gun violence is down dramatically over the past few decades. He’s focusing on the tool used to cause the problem rather than the actual problems.

  33. “Bloomberg Goes For Moms In Gun Control Battle”
This is why they can’t get anywhere, Bloomie sees a pretty broad with a kid and goes off the wagon. Next up in the News, Bloomberg spends $10 million funding new group, “Bloomberg Demands Moms”. Sad to see the dating game can be so hard for some, or maybe he’s worried about the future of his “movement” with his admission of mortality so he needs to create supporters the only way he can.

  34. I hope he starts with recruiting all the moms who had to wait for 20 minutes or an hour after they called 911 to report an intruder or a break in. Maybe if his mayor buddies didn’t always look to cut the police budget as the first thing to cut, perhaps the public could be fooled en masse to place their faith in the municipal service, but as long as there are those stories of horrendous wait time for 911 calls, he stands very little chance of this working.

    • My pastor had a break-in incident. It took the police an hour-and-a-half to arrive while he and his family hid in the locked bathroom behind his shotgun. The perpetrator couldn’t get in the house but broke some windows in the attempt and was not phased by the pastor’s shouting. Here’s the kicker; you can see the Police station from his house. That’s in a city that is in the top 6% of the safest cities in the Nation and the safest city in the state (for cities over 100,000 in population). He would have used his shotgun if needed, but expressed extreme discomfort with the idea and was relieved there was a peaceful resolution with no out-of-pocket damage expenses.

  35. $50 million buys a lot of gun locks.Hey, how about a grass-roots effort to get daddy a $100 pistol case to replace that shoebox?

  36. Two points:

First, Bloomy fails to realize that it’s not about how much you spend, necessarily, as it is how motivated your people are. And we win in that regard, hands down.

Second – “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.” Honestly, I hope he’s right on this. But it sure comes off as boasting which is the opposite of humility… last I checked being humble of heart was the better of the two.

  37. Lets look at a couple of things, how much has the Joyce Foundation paid out year after year? It’s in the millions funding anti-gun groups since they could not live off of membership dues. And then Joyce not getting a ROI forced the merger of many. Their competing efforts in Illinois. They shut down the whole Gun Guys website along with .50 cal terror .com and a few other astroturf sites.

They force the merger of Freedom State Alliance another national gun group and cut funding in other areas to where you have VPC, Brady, CSGV left. Then you have their funding for a number of state groups.

Anyone remember the Million moms? The merged with Brady. How about American for gun safety? or Third way? Mergers in the gun control world seem to happen faster than tech companies.

So Bloomie is going to toss in $50 mil. if they keep pissing it away on facebook memes rots o ruck. polling shows that our guys votes guns #1 or 2 when they go to the polls. The other side votes it #4,5 or 6. So they have an intensity gap to overcome.

Second a lot of people are going to line up to feed off of this money. What strings will be attached will be interesting. But what kind of infrastructure could they build? offices in states that duplicate the state organizations? campaign style offices to do what? hire staff to go speak to Kawanis groups?

And a certain amount id to be spent on PR, ads and the like. Not to mention most likely a new pac and campaign $$$. He can afford to spend $150 mil on this if he chooses. And it can be a threat. But his own words about going right past the pearly gates shows his arrogance. and the article even picked up on his dissmisive attitude as to his toxic touch to the issue.

On any given day, thee are more posts on TTAG or the NRA site than all the anti-gun sites combined. not to mention comments. add in all the good pro-gun blogs and they can’t keep up. But we will need to work harder. Smarter and in the field. we won’t have the money, but we have the real bodies.

especially if our side gets away from being keyboard commandos and actually spends a weekend working on a campaign.

  38. The bit at the end of the Times’s piece, about Bloomberg’s confidence of getting into heaven…

It makes me wonder just what in his past he’s been trying to atone for.

  39. Good Lord… these guys keep spinning up new organizations while the existing ones are failing. I guess it’s the statist version of “when in doubt, reorganize”. I really don’t follow the thought process where one organization is destroyed by these folks just to turn around to create another one with a different name and destroy that organization, too. It’s a self-defeating circle. I guess this further demonstrates that they’re more interested in doing all kinds of feel good motion even against a losing topic just to get nowhere.

  40. I hope we would all agree that leaving a Beretta M9 that has a round chambered with the safety off just sitting on the floor of your closet in a shoebox is probably not a great idea.

    Thank you Mayor Obvious

  41. All the time? Uh no.

Anyway that girl was old enough to have been taught gun safety. If you have a gun in the home you have a responsibility to make sure your kids know the basics of gun safety at the least, if you do not do that for whatever reason lock up your guns.

Not teaching the kids gun safety and on top of that leaving it unsecured is as asinine as having a pool and not teaching kids water safety and how to swim.

    • Agreed. Make up your mind, one or another, lock ’em up in a different place from the ammo, or teach your FAMILY, not just kids, what is what.

  42. The town by town approach is a threat.

America is not blocks of blue and red. Even in the most conservative states, there are pockets of liberalism, college towns and cities with growth industries attracting immigrants from the coasts etc.

Many towns have already shown a fondness for passing anti-gun ordinances, and this could be the play: INfluence small town mayors and councils to start normalizing anti-gun laws like a little specks of cancer all through the normally pro-gun regions.

I say forget making fun of Bloomie and take him seriously. The man seems to have analysed the spot he can leverage best and he’s going to go after it.

The best response will be state laws that pre-empt the municipal ordiances. We’ve already seen some of these, but pro-gun campaigners should work to make it explicit in as many places as possible that small towns can’t set their own anti-gun laws if the state laws are permissive.

    • This is exactly his plan. Since starting at the top and going down didn’t work, he’s going to start at the bottom and work his way up. Once firearms are seen as “evil” by the majority of the population, gun control will be easy–and people are more likely to listen to their friends and neighbors than they are some big-city bully throwing around big-city money.

    • And what about Gabby Giffords and her gun control organization? Are they going to be absorbed by the Borg, or are they going to have to compete with Mikey?

  43. I bet that whole studio stinks like piss. Because that’s what desperation usually smells like.
They have to keep cannibalizing their own groups to come up with members, since I suspect their memberships continue to drop. Money can’t fix that, unless Bloomberg’s planning to pay members a wage for joining.
I’ll agree with Robert in that MDA was the most effective of his fronts, but clearly that one wasn’t even as useful as some of us had been led to believe. This is just one slip further down that rung to where nobody gives a damn.

  44. Bloomberg believes in heaven? Honest question for those here of Jewish faith; is heaven part of the Jewish religious belief system? I grew up with many Jews and my understanding is heaven is not part of Jewish faith. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

    • This goes back to New Testament times. There were two parties, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The Pharisees believed in the concept of resurrection and an afterlife. The Sadducees were Hellenized Jews who didn’t recognize anything canonical besides the Torah. They did not believe in an afterlife, just the emptiness of Sheol. The Sadducees died out after the destruction of the Temple only to resurrected in the Twentieth century as Progressives.

        • Yes, but Jesus was often critical of them, since they were hypocrites in emphasized the letter of the law over the moral spirit of the law. And, I might add, the Pharisees oftened colluded with the Roman government which didn’t stave off the Roman destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD.

  45. I lol’ed at the tripe cliches, fear mongering and stupidity of this video.

    [P.S. Nice Beretta!]

Almost as good as this one from Britain’s version of the bored housewife Borg collective.

    http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=023_1397624474

Tell you what, I will give up my guns when Bloomberg no longer uses armed security to protect his royal self and his royal property.

When he and his ilk (rich douche bags with armed bodyguards and permanent po-po details) decide to live like how they would force the rest of us to live (and force us through violence no less), that is, unarmed and dependent on the good graces and timely arrival of agents of the state for protection or begging the tender mercies of criminals to let us go in peace, then I will give up my guns.

    COMMENT MODERATED

  46. To be honest, the more money this guy spends, the better it is for us. I really don’t think that his message resonates with the fence straddlers (look at the turn out for Watt’s org) and he drives anyone that has any affinity for guns to the 2A side. The NRA should be giving him money.

Also, as some other posters have mentioned, 50mil from some rich guy does not translate into grass roots. You can’t really buy real passionate support. The NRA has it and Bloomberg never will, at least about his anti 2A stuff.

  47. One thing we need to remember is that Bloomberg got the term limits law changed in New York City when he wanted a third term, then almost immediately after winning he got the law changed back! When he was originally elected he was very vocal about how the term limits were important, because at that time Rudy Giuliani would have been elected for a third term had there been no limits. Bloomberg treated New York City as his own private kingdom, specifically concerned about Manhattan (where the rich are) and neglecting the out boroughs all to frequently.

However, the reason that he was able to stay mayor for so long was that there was no one even close to being a decent mayoral candidate in each election. The NRA, the GOA, every other shooting and firearms association and club needs to go on the offensive against this clown immediately and spread the real truth. As well as remind people that our rights are at stake. Would the situation in Bunkerville, NV last week have ended peacefully if the government faced an unarmed populace? I think not.

  48. $50 million, or $500 million won’t make a difference, while money is important in individual races, it never has and never will be a guarantee of success, past a certain point it it hardly even correlated with success.

It’s not Senator McMahon or Senator Fiorina nor is anyone saying Governor Whitman.

There is a monetary threshold that needs to be reached in order to be taken seriously as a candidate, and money past this can be helpful, but there are diminishing returns.

What makes the NRA strong isn’t money, it’s that pro-gun people will flood the phone lines of people who oppose us and that these people actually VOTE.

It’s that core of support that is the foundation of the pro-gun community and money simply cannot buy that, even billions of dollars couldn’t replicate it.

Bloomberg changing names of his organizations yet again just shows he knows he has failed, and his reluctance to put any real money behind the organization shows he knows he has no chance of real success in the future either. $50 million for something national down to individual races is nothing, nor is it a large sum of money for Bloomberg. He knows he has failed and this is a way out.

    • In a much better place, I assure you.

The sad part is everyone thinks what the USA has is capitalism. It isn’t, and hasn’t been for over a century. This is mercantilism–where big business interests buy and sell government. THEY tell the government what to do. They pass laws to choke competition and keep us in line. The banks and billionaires run this country, not us.

      • More like high tech feudalism. Royalty and serfs. Whatever system we had prior to 1912 was razed in an instant with the central bank taking control of the nations currency.

  49. I predict that the arrogance of that Heaven quote will be an unbelievably potent fund raising vehicle for our side and will far outweigh his $50M.

He really is F’in stupid to hand that to our side on a gilded silver platter.

  50. “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

I doubt any billionaire would end up in heaven. You don’t get that rich by being a good and honest person. And, despite what some religions may tell you, you can’t buy your way through the pearly gates, in this life or the next.

    • by his own statement he doesn’t believe in God. that said, it seems obvious the rest of his statement was conjured for mass consumption.

  51. While Shannon Watts is physically attractive for her age. That school girl ensemble she is wearing on the Today Show just makes her look silly.

    • Trying just a bit too hard for that, “hey, I’m just an ordinary mom, not a corporate bigwig with adult children that I never see who were raised by the day-care employees” look I guess. Like she was only able to make the Today Show because her neighbor was good enough to swap ballet-class car-pool days with her this week. Bleeeechhh…..

  52. Read this on Yahoo yesterday. Don’t underestimate the midgets willingness to throw away money. Bloomberg spent 2.5 million in my Illinois congressional district to elect a Democrat over another Democrat for Jesse Jr’s seat. That being said…”eternity, lake of fire, YOU.”

  53. Really don’t think people support the anti gun movement as much as Bloomberg thinks they do. Homeboy is out of touch with reality.

And the girl wasn’t killed, she shot her self, big difference, maybe if parents educated thier children on the 4 rules, we wouldn’t have this problem. Then again Natural Selection did come into play here

  54. “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

I’m sure Lucifer felt the same way.

  55. Reduce rate memberships with choice of magazines or other goodies.

  56. What a friggin ego on this one. What a false sense of importance. He uses money and clout to bend people to his will and thinks THAT guarantees him a chair in the afterlife? Narcissistic tool.

  57. Nothing but a pampas pos. This is actually good to see him try this on an election year, Harry Reid isn’t even stupid enough (I know, I know, too much credit) to jump on this bandwagon. We need to see the “bipartisan” political followers of this before November so bring it on mikey. I wonder how much $$$ of the $50M that Shannon has g-stringed so far. And most of all, my daily prayer is that the good Lord has the detour sign up for mikey some day sooner than later.

  58. So having bought Maryland, Connecticut, New York and Virginia, he now wants to buy every town?

I can’t think of a better way for that jackalope to go broke.

  59. Bloomberg will broadcast to his minions on his new radio network, Air America: with special guest star, Al Franken.

  60. WOW! What did Beretta do to get the label of the “BIG BAD GUN”? Now for a few questions and comments:
    1) Why is the firearm unsecured? Retention is key both when carrying and when storing, especially around kids.
    2) These kids could have been served better if their parents had taught them proper safety in my opinion.
    3) Why are all these families shown in the videos Anglo? I think that all people are important no matter what skin color. If they want to represent “Anytown USA”, then they should show all races. Just like any town in the USA.
    4) I am going to go ahead and assume (and hopefully don’t make an ass of you and me) that the pistol is the primary home defense tool. So, how does one expect to obtain said tool when only seconds count? In my opinion, it is better served close to the family member(s) charged with the families safety (also see #1).

Anyway, those are a few of my humble opinions.

    • Why are the families always white in things like this?

      I’ll tell you why.

People like Bloomberg and many liberals do not like people of color, other than when they are trying to swindle them out of their votes through fear mongering. Other than that, they do not much care for them, or helping their communities, for to do so would endanger their opportunity to keep them dependent on urban “plantation” foremen like him.

Ads like this reflects Bloomberg’s racism because, as he does not care about what happens to black people, he thinks others must think and do as he does, so he reasons that in order for people to care about this issue he must only use white people in campaigns like this.

It is inconceivable to him that conservative people, or other white people might actually give a hoot about their countrymen who do not happen to share the same skin color as themselves.

Also, people like Bloomberg think that people of color are so solidly in his pocket that they would not dare to do something so crime-think as to exercise their 2A rights and legally own guns. Therefore, it would be silly to show Black or Hispanic people with firearms. That would not be “realistic” in the liberal mind that such a thing would occur.

Finally, he would like to subtly cast this issue as only “ignorant” whites own guns and bibles. Therefore owning guns is racist and wrong. It is typical liberal propaganda. Anything conservative, traditional or Constitutional must be cast as deviant, racist and intolerant. When the fact of the matter is, they are some of the most intolerant and racist people.

I’ll bet you money that there are more Black and Hispanic members of my gun club than there are Black and Hispanic members of Bloomberg’s country club.

  61. WOW, talk about hubris!!! I am sure God will be so pleased that he went so far to disarm law-abiding citizens, leaving them prey to criminals in NYC.

  62. Anyone think the name “Everytown” sounds rather utopian? Like when I hear the word, I think of one of those utopian-looking towns where all the doors of all the homes on the street open up at the same time, and out step all the Stepford brides, all smiling, and out come all the husbands, smiling, etc…and everything is perfect on the surface, but you know there is something evil as ever lurking within the town that is responsible for this.

  63. Oy. Gotta give the little guy credit. I’m looking at the home page for The Seattle Times.
His group has a banner ad across the top, a left margin and right margin advertisement, one large embedded banner ad under the Seattle Times name, one embedded advertisement next to the top stories, and three additional embedded ads as you scroll down just on the homepage

EIGHT ads on one page. Holy Overcompensation, Batman!

  64. Keep the cameras on bloomy all the time. He is his own worst enemy, let him keep running his mouth and soon he will alienate every one listening. When the enemy is making a tactical error stay out of their way.

  65. Aha! The “voice of the people”, in typical fashion, disabled comments and ratings for their vid–but if you have a youtube account you can go to their channel page and leave a comment by clicking on “discussions” once you are signed in. And people have. And it’s just like you might expect, the ones who bother to comment are, shall we say, unimpressed.

  66. Does “Everytown for Gun Safety” even know the four rules of gun safety? I would love to see someone ask bloomberg that in an interview.

  67. Guys don’t kid yourselves $50m is a serious chunk of change. Everyone reading this should head off to the NRA website and donate.

You have to fight cash with cash, but lets show Bloomberg what true grassroots fundraising actually is!

If every NRA member donated only $20 we would bury him, in true grassroots style! So this week instead of buying that extra box of 9mm give it to the NRA!

  68. I watched the video and it seemed like the brother was going to assault the sister. Seems like a case of DGU.

  69. “No running in the house”

They slipped up and have shown their hand. They claim to only want to take your guns, but their end game is to ban everything more dangerous than a brisk walk.

No Guns, No Running, No Responsibility

    • No gum chewing. No peanut butter. No killier Yo-Yos. No talking when they’re talking.

      And they NEVER stop talking.

  70. Bloomberg will just walk right in yea?

What if God wants to interview him? Will he stop or will he just walk around him office space style?

  71. Here is an idea for Mr. Bloomypants:

Why don’t you donate the 50 Million to the NRA. They have done more for “gun safety” and this country than anyone holding public office or waving loads of cash around.

You can ear-mark it for additional gun safety training, based on the well know NRA principles. The curriculum can be taught by certified NRA instructors in every school in the nation.

    Just a thought.

  72. I own several guns. Mainly hunting.
In reading the previous comments I see that some still believe we live in the wild west.
Most gun control advocates I know talk first about the apparently terrible ideas of
    1. Insuring criminals, and the mentally ill do not get guns by having comprehensive background checks and other means to insure this.
    2. Having required safety procedures (like locks) to keep guns out of the hands of unsupervised children.
    3. Restriction on certain gun types, ammunition, and magazines. (except for police)

Its laughable. The gun argument and some other social issues keeps working people distracted from the issue of economic inequality. Meanwhile the gun corporate world get richer.

    P.S. Dont take my bazooka

    • ” Meanwhile the gun corporate world get richer.”

Other than the mismatched adjective and object, you mean?

Does the “gun corporate world” force anyone to buy a gun? Your answer would be?

And a manufacturer raising production to meet increased demand would be?
      A) Coercion
      B) A smart business decision

Stop being confused and manipulated by the lamestream media. They never complain about auto makers making decisions based on consumer demand, now DO they? They always act as if guns should be in a category all their own. Tell me why you think this should be so. How about diamonds, a nearly worthless gem (inherently), whose demand is manipulated my diamond merchants, when in fact rubies and emeralds are far more rare?

Is business inherently of ill intent?

    • 1. Insuring criminals, and the mentally ill do not get guns by having comprehensive background checks and other means to insure this.
By “comprehensive background checks” you mean the requirement that ALL gun sales and transfers are performed by utilizing the government NICS (or similar) system? My guess is that you will expect that the felons and crazies will be lining up around the block at their nearest FFL dealer to avail themselves of this requirement? Or will it just be another “requirement” for those who are simply law abiding? Net impact – NONE (other than to force those who are not the problem into another nonsensical government requirement)

      2. Having required safety procedures (like locks) to keep guns out of the hands of unsupervised children.
Ahh yes… the infamous “locks” that will keep the guns out of the hands of children. Actually it is a good idea to keep all dangerous items out of the hands of children. However, I am wondering just what you mean by “required” in your statement “Having required safety procedures …”. Are you assuming that those who would make available dangerous objects to children should be charged with reckless endangerment? Maybe after the child has been injured or killed? Or are you aiming for something a little more stringent – like “periodic safety checks” done by police in all gun owners homes to make sure all guns are locked? Note: those that couldn’t care less about their children’s safety, regardless of the implement or situation, will continue to be reckless – and unfortunately their children will continue to suffer, with a gun involved or not)

      3. Restriction on certain gun types, ammunition, and magazines. (except for police)
Really? and just what “kind” of gun would you want to have “restricted”? Maybe just those types of guns and ammo that can penetrate body armor (like most hunting rifles used for deer)? Or maybe those evil “black” guns? What if they were painted white? Would they be less evil if they were a different color?
For an example of the idiocy of the idea that certain guns and configurations are “more dangerous” are my two 45 ACP firearms, one a semi-auto handgun (magazine capacity = 13 rounds), and BTW, not black in color. The other is a semi-auto carbine with a pistol grip, threaded barrel, barrel shroud, and of all things, black in color (magazine capacity = 10 rounds). Just give me a clear reason why the latter should be “restricted” and the former not. And just to remind you… they both fire the same bullet, yet one would clearly be banned under the “the government thinks this one looks scarier” rules that crop up from time to time.

So I do have a recommendation for you from Sam Clemens: “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

  73. I see there are many constitutional experts making comments. Haha.
Probably some dont take time to vote. There are other parts I think in the constitution that have to do with protecting citizens, and citizens voting to voice their opinion.
    So lets get real.
    1. The constitution is what the courts say it is. Not what you want to think it is.
    2. Gun control is all around us and has been for many years.
    3. The handwriting is on the wall. Societies evolve. They become more complex. We are more and more restricted where we can use our guns.
    4. There is no doubt that eventually stronger gun control laws will be created.
The newer generations will demand this.

    • May history forget that you were our countryman. I know I already have, you gloating statist s.o.b.

You figure you’ve joined the side that will win. That side will do away with you as easily as they do away with us.

Nothing is so pathetic as a wannabe winner who deliberately threw in with the villains.

COMMENTS DELETED from this point on.

  74. One thing to say to the people that want gun control Y’ALL Are IDIOTS. We need guns are guns pulling the trigger no it the criminals that gun shops sell to. We should arm teachers it’s smart it would keep the kids safe. Would a gun free zone keep criminals from bringing guns there not yet but let’s keep thinking that it will we’ll just be endangered the rest of our lives the government needs to give guns to teachers not should NEEDS TO. And if guns kill people how do people live after going to a gun show. In the past 20 years 0 deaths have come from gun shows and 95% of them armed in the past 20 years people killed in school shootings 137 people 0% armed. Explain the logic why we don’t arm the teachers

  75. Congratulations Mr. Weaver. You have proven Mr. Clemen’s point.

The constitution says “in order to maintain a well regulated malitia”. I see nothing well regulated about the system we currently have.
