The eForms software is not performing to our expectations.  As a result, we are taking the eForms system down until further notice.  We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work with our industry partners to deliver a quality product.  Any eForm submitted will continue to be processed. The finalized forms will be sent to the user via email .  . .

Until the eForms system is returned to service for the industry, all imports forms (Forms 6 Part I and 6A), NFA forms (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10), and AFMER reports (Form 5300.11) must be submitted via paper, including any eForms in draft status. [h/t silencernews.com]

  1. Someone needs to do a FOIA on this system to get all necessary information and prove negligence. Time to shame these contractors or “industry partners” out of business.

    • Somebody needs to file a USC 1983 suit for denial of civil rights under color of law. There is no legal rationale for a nine month processing delay for a procedure that would take five minutes via NICS.

  2. Need a FOIA to understand how much was paid, names of who got paid, names of who administered the contract and its award and how many other contractors were reviewed or if it was a sole source. $20 says there is cronyism out there.

  3. Same as Obamacare. If you like your can, you get to keep it. Or, not.

Wouldn’t it be weird if we found out this crashed because they were rerouting Obamacare applications to the ATF site. Id hate to see what happens then.

      • Right, because the last time something in govt made sense was….

So, which would make more sense to you: An Obamacare exchange accidentally routing hearing impaired callers to a phone sex line offering hot ladies, or the exchange routing people to fill out a form at another internal agency, which oops is the ATF not IRS? I can see how this gets misunderstood: I asked for a “plan” and they thought I asked for a “can.”

  4. It’s those damn batch processors!!! Oh wait….
No it is global warming! No that just sounds silly…
No it’s the Sun!!! Yeah that’s it, we can only process forms when the sun isn’t out, during the three minutes of the winter and spring solstice.. We built it to do that!

    • NO, NO! IT’S GEORGE BUSH’S FAULT! And those eeevil Tea party Republicans! And the bitter clingers! And Vladimir Putin!

Hey, the buck never even gets close to the current administration.

  5. How hard is it to look at a damn PDF, run an NICS check, look at the prints, and ship a Fµ*k!ng stamp!?
Jeezus, a TTAG comment + 3 pictures, and that’s too much for them?

    • You forgot the public key cryptographer to verify identity, seesh. Damn marketing guys always say it sooooo easy. You write the code! 😉

      /joke

You are right, that is probably all it would require

  6. Awesome… the DAY my suppressor gets to my dealer. Just awesome. Looks like my SBR is going to continue to be loud for up to a year…

  7. Call me a cynic if you will but I firmly believe that this system was essentially a modem connected to a cluster of computers which then connected to a (small) bank of printers to print out the forms. That is, i believe that this was a database acting as a print server. If so, it could have been a problem with a queue buffer overrun.

For those who are not technical, this is how one might set up the system in 1970.

    • This sounds crazy but its been done. It’s a way to ostensibly have an “internet” presence for customers and to show management some level of “progress.”

    • Bank of printers? Not a chance in hell. That would require them to operate with even the most basic level of efficiency. They probably have one guy with an IQ close to his shoe size (who is somehow entitled to a pension) sitting in a room with dingy fluorescent lights and a Xerox machine built in 1985.

  8. You guys should stop picking on the ATF. They just panicked when Microsoft announced the XP OS on the laptop they run the system on was no longer gonna be supported this coming Tuesday.
“Oh God, what will we do? Wait, doesn’t Michelle know someone in the computer business?”
    /. sarcasm mode: off

    • You don’t need any Kroil or moly oil afterward, you are just right the way you are. Keep up the great humor, it helps and I know it brings levity to others as well!

  9. Helpful commentary ! For my two cents , if anyone needs a ATF 6A (5330.3C) , my husband came across a blank document here http://goo.gl/KR0ZnK.
