30-year-old Philipe, a photographer from the great nation of Brazil, sends this All-Black EDC profiled at Everyday Carry.
Increasingly, Brazilians are once again embracing the proven benefits of firearm ownership in that crime-ridden nation. Especially under their new president. And Philipe carries the Imbel MD2-LX. Which sounds like a jumble of letters, so I Googled it.
It’s a 19+1 .380 caliber pistol. It comes with three of those 19-round magazines and a target from the factory showing that yes, it shoots minute of bad guy without issues. (For more on the gun, in Portuguese, see this YouTube video.)
Why do I have a strange urge to try to acquire one of these Imbel .380 pistols?
Surprisingly, Philipe doesn’t carry a reload, but with 19+1, that’s four J-frame revolvers’ worth of firepower without a replenishment.
So, a 1911ish pistol, but done as a double stack .380… I kind of want one of those myself.

Capacity doesn’t negate a reload. .380 is better than a sharp stick, but even in Brazil I thought it would be a 9 mmm.
A lot of countries have bans on ‘military’ calibers. Brazil must be one of those.
.380 is max pistol caliber. Rifles may only be pistol caliber.
The Glock .380 was made for these countries.
Yet Mexico you can up to a 9mm and for rifles they have to be in a gun club and can buy shotguns. It’s part of the reason the civilians are in need of USA help with the cartels having such high firepower and the government’s neglect to handle it.

Brazil has all the gun control anti-gun people have ever dreamed of, and more, and still has a murder rate that’s through the roof. Hopefully they will see some gun rights restoration, but gun culture there is not strong after years of suppression.

I’ve got a buddy who was on BOPE and they carried the Glock 25 in .380. If I were doing BOPE stff I would not want to be toting a .380
I know a fella in Brazil that has a Glock 25. Like a 19. But he cant have a 9 as it is in 9mm.
And I can buy a Glock 25 here due to dumbass import regulations.

Their for the police to attach the gun cables to prevent pick pockets stealing their guns. It’s what they wanted on USA guns for CCW holders for a short while.
I would always carry at least one spare clipazine. Seeing as how that’s the most likely point of failure in a semi outside of the ammo.
The shoulder thingy that goes up doesn’t seem to have a high rate of failure so only one of those.

Grip looks wide probably due to the double stack magazine. One of the virtues of the 1911 as JMB designed it is that it fits a wide range of hand sizes.
.380 isn’t a bad caliber provided you understand it doesn’t have enough power to give you both penetration and expansion and you prioritize penetration when selecting a defensive cartridge.
Unless Brazil’s new president has made major changes in their gun laws, Philipe either is well connected or is carrying illegally. If the latter, I hope he doesn’t get caught.

Brazil can own up to a 380 in handguns but have to be apart of a gun club to even be approved to be checked for a background check then wait months for the gun. Similar to Mexico but in Mexico they can have up to a 9mm and buy shotguns or low power rifles which is why cartels are so dangerous for them they can’t defend their farms or schools enough. Even the BOPE of Brazil an anti terrorism unit has a hard time like the federalis in Mexico due to corruption. Great people in both countries just 1-3% are bad eggs that need tossed.
Prior to the recent presidential election Brazil was one of the most restrictive firearm counties in South America. As I recall you can only have a MAXIMUM of 6 guns, two pistols or revolvers of .380 or 38 special or smaller caliber, two rifles (no high powered ones which mean .22lr) and two shotguns. You can only purchase one gun a year and it has to be from a registered dealer (no used firearms). The bureaucracy to get permission to own a gun there is a nightmare for anyone without political connections and no private reloading equipment permitted. Every good democrats wet dream.

There has been some movement to open up Brazil’s gun laws, but it is still very restrictive and the executive decree is temporary. They need to go a lot further than they have if they are going to get a handle on all the violent crime and killing. It’s obvious their citizens want this, they held a referendum and 65% of the vote was in favor of private gun ownership.

Screw a spare mag. I carry a spare snubbie. Faster and more reliable than a reload for my semi-auto.
Cool pistol. I wonder what type of ammo he is using. Seems like I read somewhere they have to be non-reloadable. Poly cases or some kind of two piece design.
