Cuomo intends to take a lead role in a broad campaign pressing for a crackdown on the improper dealing of firearms,” nytimes.com reports. “swerving into national politics on an issue that has caused him some political heartburn in New York but has become a defining subject of the 2016 presidential campaign.” Whoa. Hang on a second there, Hoss. Gun control is a defining subject in the 2016 Presidential campaign? If Hillary Clinton dodges an FBI probe-shaped bullet, gets the Democratic nomination and doubles down on say, an assault weapons ban, I like the Republican nominee’s chances. As long as it’s not Bush. Speaking of politicians I don’t like . . .
Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, has pledged to throw his weight behind the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, one of the country’s most prominent gun control groups, in an as-yet-unannounced effort demanding that the Justice Department more closely scrutinize so-called bad apple gun merchants, according to people familiar with the campaign.
We’ve been down this road before. Once again, The Brady Campaign wants to vilify gun dealers who legally sold legal products that end up as “crime guns.” This guilt by association campaign was and will be an attempt to restrict gun sales by picking off the low-hanging fruit. Once the antis have punished or shut down these “improper” dealers they’ll raise the bar to shut down other gun dealers. Yes, punish.
To start, Mr. Cuomo will be among the chief signatories of a letter to Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, to be released as early as next week, urging the Justice Department to punish what the Brady Campaign describes as a small fraction of gun dealers who sell an overwhelming share of weapons used to commit crimes. He has promised to lobby other governors around the country to join in the push.
Andrew’s enthusiasm for anti-gun agitprop should come as no surprise. If nothing else, his sister is on the board of the Brady Campaign. If nothing else, Cuomo is looking to draw heat away from his failure to enforce every last bit of the unconstitutional SAFE Act and keep sliding down the slippery slope of New York-flavored gun control.
An aide to Mr. Cuomo signed a memorandum with Republicans in the Senate this year suspending background checks for ammunition because of the “lack of adequate technology” that would allow such a system to function.
Leah Gunn Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, said her organization was in “constant contact with the governor’s office about getting the ammunition background check database up and running.” She added that the group was also pushing the state to pass laws creating a registry of lost and stolen weapons and requiring people to lock up their guns when not in use.
With the Brady Campaign looking to regain media prominence from Everytown for Gun Safety and Cuomo looking to raise his national profile, this is gonna get interesting – in a nauseatingly familiar sort of way.
If you’re thinking “I don’t live in NY, Cuomo isn’t my problem” you’re going to be in for a wake-up call.
This guy WILL try to run for POTUS.

I suggest that every gun owner read those anti-gun and unconstitutional federal district and appellate decisions (like the recent 2nd Circuit decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n, Inc., et al. v. Cuomo, et al. & Connecticut Citizens’ Defense League, et al. v. Malloy, et al.: 14-36-cv(L); 14-319-cv), determine which judges voted against the 2nd Amendment, then contact their U.S. Representative and DEMAND that he/she band together with other Reps. to bring Impeachment Charges against these judges for “high crimes and misdemeanors” in that they intentionally and knowingly disregarded what Justice McReynolds wrote in ‘U.S. v. Miller’; wherein the SCOTUS ruled that “the militia” had the right to own the “weapons in common use at that time” — and that those such weapons at _this_ time are most assuredly AR and AK ‘military-pattern modern sporting arms’; along with their selective-fire versions now banned by the Hughes Amendment to FOPA`86.
And if those Reps. refuse to do that, tell them that they will be targeted for defeat in their next election for their complicity in these treasonous acts committed by these judges.

Why do I get the feeling that isn’t being designed as an attempt return the lost property to its rightful owner?
I think you make the same mistake a lot of folks on the tech side do – there is an assumption that people will care enough about our interest, en masse, that it would swing an election.
Guns are a big deal to segments, but I don’t think they are going to swing voters. Same with electronic surveillance and monitoring and privacy. People care about their jobs and providing for their families. Those are things politicians can gently influence, but can’t change. So the make promises and voters buy in every time.
I think Hillary is out of touch with those voters, and that might have an impact, but the bigger risk is that her opponent will fail to fill the vacuum, leaving her in office on economics and the chance to leverage things that the voters really didn’t have the NEED to worry about, even though they knew should have cared.

The current administration’s abuse of surveillance, intel, and privacy is having the effect of driving the Millennials over to our way of thinking.
Granted, they aren’t a mass force on election day, but as they age they will be showing up to vote.

Do not underestimate the public’s stupidity. Hillary will probably quiet down on the gun control issue during the General, but we must remain vigilant.
Talk about good money after bad; any successes they have getting these measures passed will be very vulnerable to being overturned in court (guilt by association simply sets too clearly unworkable a precedent in areas beyond guns to be tolerated)
Middle-class New Yorkers are not causing a gun violence (or non-gun violence) problem. This is a demographic problem, not a gun problem.
