You gotta give Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Chief Paul Helmke credit. The gun grabbers’ guru has seen the writing on the wall (i.e. the Supreme Court McDonald decision affirming the supremacy of the Second Amendment). He’s moved quickly to reposition the gun control “brand.” He’s replaced strident rhetoric with John Lennon-like low-key liturgy (“all we are saying is give up your 50 cals”). In the run-up to the White House gun summit, the Brady Bunch are slowly releasing a series of post-Tucson Q&A clips where Helmke tries to come off as Mr. Nicely Nicely. Only one problem . . .

Helmke has a huge heart-on for gun control.

“In Switzerland you have to account for the number of bullets you have at the end of the month. If the NRA is going to agree to that . . . I’m all in.”

Even when you wrap yourself in red, white and blue, your true stripes are hard to hide.

  1. Now Robert, you know he wasn’t saying he really wants people to account for all their bullets every month. He was saying Switzerland has strict laws which the NRA would never accept.

Overall, I liked what he said. I never really got why you guys hate him so much.

    • No, he was saying he wishes the U.S. had a program like Switzerland where private individuals would have to account for every bullet—and he realizes that the NRA would never go for it.

      • he’s also lying. The only ammo that the Swiss have to account for is the small amount (50 rounds of 5.56mm) of sealed ammo they were given so if they had to, they could fight their way to their depots in order to muster. Ammo is sold at every shooting range. It’s not supposed to be taken home, but that rule is barely know and almost never obeyed.

Go figure, Paulie is full of $h!t once again.

      • When this incompetent moron says ” I’m all in” he most certainly is supporting what the wimpy swiss fools do, and the NRA is smart enough to fight such a stupid law. Robert, you must realize by now that MB will always support anything or anyone that opposes our gun rights because he hates guns. MB knows everything we should think or do, and if we ever become a bunch of dumass commie puppets then MB can be our so called leader.

        • C’mon Joe, it’s not like that at all. I don’t support everything, and many things the “official” gun controllers do accept, like the legitimacy of the 2nd Amendment, I don’t.

Furthermore, I don’t think I know what you should think and do. But when you take such a severe position against every throw-away remark Helmke says, which is what that “I’m all in,” was, and at the same time you accept and support every lame inanity that comes out of La Pierre’s mouth, I question that.

        • I don’t think that was a “throwaway” remark. I think Helmke would support a move to make gun owners accountable for every bullet. (Largely because he said so.) But what about you Mike? Do you think all guns should be registered with the government? If so, how would that help reduce gun crime? And yes, what about bullets? CA wanted to register ammunition purchases. Do you agree with that idea? How would that help reduce gun violence?

        • You know I favor registering guns. And you probably have caught my ideas about how it can eliminate straw purchasing.

It works like this. Forget about all the guns already owned, let’s start from now on. All new gun purchases have to be made by licensed gun buyers, maybe that FOID system would be a good example. Then every weapon would be registered to a particular person who has a license and would have to present himself and the gun to the police after three months to renew the registration. After that the renewal would be yearly.

Along with this, naturally there’d be required background checks on any type of gun transfer. The registration of a gun would transfer with it to the next licensed owner.

Straw purchasing would be eliminated. So would those supposedly good faith private transfers to criminals which take place now with such ease.

    • If Mr. Helmke and the Brady Campaign consider the 2nd Amendment as being interpreted incorrectly by the SCOTUS, they have the same avenue of redress that any citizen or group has. All they have to do is convince two-thirds of both houses of Congress or two-thirds of the state legislatures to propose an amendment to the Constitution. After that, all it takes is a three-fourths of the states to ratify the amendment and it becomes part of the Constitution.

If as many people agree with the Brady Campaign as they would like to believe, then this should be quite easy to accomplish and they would have no reason to compromise with the rest of us or with the NRA. Unfortunately for them, the majority of Americans agree with the SCOTUS that the wording of the 2nd Amendment is quite clear in its statement “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Oh how they must hate those last four words “shall not be infringed” and the foresight of our founding fathers to know that someday, someone very much like Mr. Helmke would attempt to do exactly what the Brady Campaign is trying to do, infringe our right to bear arms!

I suggest Mr. Helmke join Mr. Gore in commiserating the fickle nature of our system of government that denies them the right to decide what’s best for the rest of us “unwashed masses”. I’m quite sure the irony keeps both men up a night!

    • Perhaps we dislike him because he is constantly attempting to impose draconian laws on us when we do not want draconian laws? Or maybe because he has absolutely no respect for the founding documents if this country? Or possibly because his idea of “compromise” is “give us everything we want and piss of”?

Nah. Those answers’re are just too… obvious… for you.

    • Overall, I liked what he said. I never really got why you guys hate him so much.

Helmke is an Orwellian pig. He thinks he is “more equal” than the rest of us. He thinks he can and should be able to dictate our lives to us. He is a professional liar.

What’s to like about a pig that lies and steals from you?

  2. If you learned anything from what happened in Australia and the UK, it’s this: Never give an inch to the gun grabbers. Don’t surrender anything, no “compromise”, nothing. With these people, it’s always “reasonable” or “rational” measures they seek. Baloney. They want all the guns, that’s their goal. I don’t care if they sent Master Yoda as their spokesman. NO DEAL.

    • “If I could’ve gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them…’Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ’em all in,’ I would have done it.”
      — Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA)

  3. Hey, here’s a question: Those 50 cal sniper rifles, have those EVER been used by a private citizen in the US to shoot down a helicopter or airplane?

“I’m not trying to take anyone’s guns away!” What a convenient “truth.” You’re not trying to take them away, you’re trying to regulate them away.

I too would love for his job to go away in two years. In fact, if he loves that idea so much, why wait two years? Do it now! Go live in the utopia that is the UK.

  4. Split up an old clip into a bunch of little ones and release them about an hour apart. Oh, and edit out the REALLY dumb stuff.? Oh, and don’t allow comments. Oh, and, and, and .45 is almost .50, .40 is almost .45, and .357 is almost .40…

  5. Why would Organization A want to “compromise” with Organization B when Organization B has nothing to offer that Organization A wants?
