If you watched last night’s Republican debate broadcast from the notorious conservative stronghold of Boulder, Colorado, you know that it didn’t go well at all. For CNBC. The Democrat operatives with bylines moderators took all kinds of abuse for their performance, not just from viewers at home and those in attendance, but from the nominees themselves. Ted Cruz tore them a new one over of the gotcha nature of their queries. Chris Christie ridiculed their choice of topics and Marco Rubio pointed out the faulty research and false premises of their questions. In short, it was highly entertaining. But those on the right weren’t the only ones howling . . .

Danny Gross, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership’s head honcho, wasn’t happy with the dearth of gun talk. Here’s the foot-stamping press release his flaks issued:

CNBC Fails the American People

Less Than 2 Minutes Devoted in Debate to Issue That Kills 32,000 Americans Every Year.

Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement following the GOP Presidential Debate on CNBC:

“The candidates and audience agreed: the moderators focused more time on divisive questions than addressing the one issue that 93 percent of Americans agree on: stopping gun violence. In Colorado, a state with a high rate of gun ownership that has also expanded Brady background checks, the moderators had an opportunity to ask each candidate how they would address this life and death issue. Instead, CNBC spent only one minute and 41 seconds on an issue killing 89 people a day. Further, they handed Donald Trump a platform to publicly eliminate policies at his companies that currently ban firearms on their properties. It is a tremendous disservice that the American people didn’t have that crucial opportunity to hear from the presidential candidates on their vision for keeping us safe from gun violence.”

  1. The Brady Nuts shouldn’t blame CNBC. It’s the fault of the Democratic National Committee, which clearly failed to give complete instructions to their media puppets.

    • Actually, I don’t think the DNC wants their puppets to explore gun control with the Repubs right now. They only want the Dems to talk about it, because in primary season, the candidates are talking to their respective “bases”–and on guns, the Repub’s “base” is more in tune with the population as a whole. No need to give them a chance to resonate with the public at large.

  2. I lost respect for the Inquisitors at these debates back in the 1990s. The press can’t be relied upon to ask any relevant question.
Conservative libertarian type talk radio is
the best place to hear tough questions. Micheal Savage, most candidates avoid him except Donald trump. Glen Beck does a good job when they show up. Trump has avoided the Beck show.

    • They don’t go on with Savage because he is a screwball, a fake, and a liar.

Most of the candidates have gone on Beck and Levin. The reason we don’t see a debate with them as moderators is because the people in charge of the RNC are scared to death of such a thing. One debate with Rush, Levin, Beck, Hannity, or a couple others as moderators would see no RINO or establishment candidate get elected for the next 16 years.

      • Eh.. they’re all info-tainment news *for profit*. Trying to say that any of them do what they do for philanthropic reasons is a little naive.

  3. What they didn’t mention about Colorado was the consequences of enacting more gun control was the recall of 3 senators. 2 were voted out, 1 quit. And the monopoly of democrats has been broken.

All this starting from a true grassroots movement.

  4. “93% of Americans feel that something needs to be done about gun violence”?

Who are the other 7% and why do they support gun violence?

    • “93% of Americans feel that something needs to be done about violence”?

      Fixed it for them.

I agree that something should be done about violence. Personally, I carry a gun in case some guy tries to make violence happen to me.

    • It’s technically true. The part that the Brady Bunch doesn’t like to mention is that half of the 93% are tooling up, because we are smart enough to realize that a gun is the best defense against violence of any kind.

  5. Given that they CONTINUE to include suicides in their numbers, the only way to accomplish the goal in their footnote is to convince people to start killing themselves with something other than guns.

    • Well there you go!

No wonder the lefty moderators were asking snarky questions. When the only thing they know about “economic issues” is what the rich elitist Democrat politicians have been sayin’ – that corporations and rich people are the problem – it’s no wonder the moderators couldn’t frame a cogent question regarding ‘economic issues” and fell all over themselves with…’stupid’.

    • Yes! CNBC is primarily a Business and Economics TV Network and the Debate was titled : “Your Money. Your Vote.”. So, it was supposed to be about economic issues, not about anything else. There are several additional debates where the Political and Social issues can be discussed. The next one is Fox Business News, so, guess what? It will probably be primarily about economic issues, too. Thanks Smith for pointing this out!
The rest of you can count yourselves among the Brady Bunch who didn’t get it. Now go stand in the corner and repeat “Debates have themes and I need to know what the theme of a particular Debate is before I make myself look silly in a Public Forum.” one thousand times.

      • Well I guess since there were actually few questions about economic issues either, and the moderators were basically shills for the DNC, perhaps they figured why not go ahead and make our gun points, too?

        • Yes. Your remark about the CNBC Moderators being DNC Shills is spot on! The ONE question about his CCW permit asked of Donald Trump was intended to be a “Gotcha!” CNBC was committed to a Debate about economics. but tried to turn it into an overall embarrassment for the Republican Candidates. I was ranting at others here on TTAG who had missed the point as did the Brady Bunch that it was supposed to be about economics only.

  6. I know someone who went to an urban public school. Simple math indicates that 32,000 out of 320,000,000 (I’m being generous to our Brady friends since we’re closer to 350,000,000 and their feelings are hurt) equals 0.01%. That’s right. One-one hundredth of a percent. Considering the propensity for these groups to inflate the numerator with suicides and justified self defense, I doubt the public care about a less than one-one hundredth chance they will die by firearms.

  7. “And 0 minutes were devoted to medical malpractice, an issue that kills 400,000 Americans.”
“And 0 minutes were devoted to drunk driving, an issue that kills 220,000 Americans.”
“And 0 minutes were devoted to cardiovascular disease, an issue that kills 800,000 Americans.”

    I could go on.
(My numbers aren’t researched, but they’re at least close.)

    • You don’t get it. Guns make you deader, even more deader than a heart attack! This is why it makes the news when someone is deaded by gun. How many times do you hear of a deadening by heart attack on the news? See? It is because the gun is way worse.

  8. CNBC Fails the American People

Less Than 2 Minutes Devoted in Debate to Issue That Kills 32,000 Americans Every Year.
    32.000 people wow.
    and only 2 minutes devoted……..
    From the CDC website:

Cigarette smoking causes about one of every five deaths in the United States each year.1,6 Cigarette smoking is estimated to cause the following:1

More than 480,000 deaths annually (including deaths from secondhand smoke)

No time dedicated to these numbers at all…………..but, what about-how this affects the children?

    crickets chirp………………

*/ “if it saves one life…..”

  9. ” Ted Cruz tore them a new one over of the gotcha nature of their queries.”

Cruz did far, far better than that.

When her ripped them for for the questions they asked, he re-capped the questions with a quick synopsis, in the exact order the questions were asked.

Ever hear of a photographic memory? Cruz has that, but it’s his hearing.

Glenn Beck edited a clip to show what Cruz did. You hear a quick bit of the original question and then Cruz’s recap.

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/10/29/glenn-beck-puts-ted-cruzs-eerily-accurate-memory-to-the-test-after-cnbc-debate/

Cruz is very, very sharp. Combine that with his ‘hearing memory’, he can flat destroy someone in a debate.

I liked Cruz before. I like him a lot more now.

The Dems better be very afraid of Ted Cruz…

  10. Seeing as the predominance of gun violence is perpetrated by persons from their side of the political spectrum the Brady operation might want to STFU !

  11. “Further, they handed Donald Trump a platform to publicly eliminate policies at his companies that currently ban firearms on their properties…”

    So, job well done, then.
