Boyds’ new Spike Camp laminated hardwood replacement stock gives you everything you really need: a free floating barrel, sling studs and a comfortable thumbhole stock. At only $99, it’s a very affordable way to upgrade that old rifle that’s been sitting in the back of the safe.

Here’s their press release:

Boyds Gunstocks, the South Dakota-based hardwood gunstock manufacturer, introduces its new thumbhole stock for 2020! Called Spike CampTM this new thumbhole gunstock shape is designed with simplicity in mind.

For just $99, the Spike CampTM is “The Essentials-Only” gunstock. Aptly named, this thumbhole gunstock keeps it simple: It’s lightweight at just 2.5 lbs. and has a large ergonomically-designed thumbhole that is super comfortable in your hands. It features a short Monte Carlo style comb to provide a proper cheek weld, two sling studs for sling attachment, and a free-floated barrel channel for better accuracy. For options, you get the essentials only: choice of color, optional pillars, and either a satin or glossy finish. You can upgrade to a 1-inch recoil pad; purchased separately.

Spike camps in the backcountry are a strategic necessity to tipping the odds in your favor and allowing you to do more with less. The Spike CampTM thumbhole stock is a high-quality, extremely comfortable, lightweight, essentials-only stock. The performance of a free-floated barrel, standard sling studs, and a thumbhole grip give you everything you need to achieve success, and all while keeping weight and size down.

  1. Boyd’s stock are pretty good for the money, even if they are a little heavy and sometimes garish. But man oh man do I hate thumbhole stocks. I find them very uncomfortable. YMMV.

      • The anti-Constitutional rights people view the thumbhole stock as a work around to pistol grip bans. They claim it makes the weapon more deadly, instead of what really makes a weapon deadly, the person behind the trigger.

    • The Spike CampTM is available in all 13 of Boyds’ color combinations and will be available the week of January 13th, 2020. They must start their week on a Monday…check it tomorrow it should be up

  2. I read this article and like the looks of the stock, however it would have been nice to add a few of the models this stock is made for. You know like the rem 700, old enfields, ruger or others. Just telling me its for my old gun kinda lacks for much needed info. Not that I can’t go to their site and look but if your going to pitch em then put a little more effort into the pitch. Thats just my opinion.

  3. I bought one of Boyd’s pricier stocks (yah, with thumbhole) to replace the absolutely lousy original stock on my Savage Axis. Feels, works and looks great. Word of warning, though. The mounts that secure the stock to the barrel/receiver (via the trigger guard for an Axis) were plastic and problematic. I ended up replacing them with metal fittings. Might have the same issue with this new stock.
