Now that the gun rights movements wants his guts for garters (after his half-time gun control rant), NBC Sportscaster Bob Costas can’t stop talking about guns. Here are some choice tidbits from today’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show. [Click here to listen.]Sometimes the quality of those who oppose you speaks for itself . . . Here’s where I stand: I do not want to see the second amendment repealed . . . People should be allowed to own guns for their own protection . . . I don’t see any reason a citizen should be able to arm himself in some states in ways only police or military should — to have a virtual militia (bought by) mail order or gun shows. Why do you need a semi automatic weapon? What possible use is there?” Revolvers rule! Anyway, assault weapons ban much? Oh yeah . . .

“There are those who believe that denying a semi automatic weapon or an assault rifle is the first step down a slippery slope in denying an old lady a gun for her own protection . . .

“There are people who honestly believe that in Aurora (Colo.) if only a dozen or so people there to watch the Batman movie had been packin’, they would have been able to take down the nut job in full body armor with military-type guns. I think any police officer if you told them that would roll their eyes.”

What else is there to say? Here’s hoping Bob Costas doesn’t say it. Or, as they say, it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt. Just sayin’ . . .

  1. How did he get from hand-gun waiting periods to AWB? Oh, right thats what slippery-slope means. Looks like Costas is a skier!

  2. “I don’t see any reason a citizen should be able to arm himself in some states in ways only police or military should”

The man is a fool that does not know his history.

    • I swear this is one factor that all the antis and even some on-the-fence people have in common. NONE of them know history’s consequences and parallels to today. I’m thankful my parents could send me to a private high-school, but holy shit there were some gaping holes in the curriculum. For example:

      1. In American history, we went over the bill of rights and parts of the constitution. We read the material, and we had to memorize stuff for a test, but we didn’t discuss why the Bill of Rights is so important or how it’s so relevant today. The entire segment was rather rushed while we spent forever talking about the Native Americans and slavery. I’m sure spending too much time on something that showed our country in a positive light would be deemed “racist” or “offensive” because its goal wasn’t to make us feel sorry for some oppressed people we all have no direct connection to.

In all my history classes, there was not a single minute spent talking about the hundreds of millions killed by Communism in the 20th century. No Soviet purges, no Holodomor, no Great Leap Forward, nuthin. Meanwhile the Nazis and other “right-wing” policies got special attention. Guess which side our textbook covertly preferred to talk about once we hit Vietnam?

And the sad thing is, my education on history was supposedly better than that of public school kids. I’ve learned more history in the past year reading books on my own than I have in any academic classroom setting my whole life. What does that tell you about our PC education system?

      • “I’m sure spending too much time on something that showed our country in a positive light would be deemed “racist” or “offensive” because its goal wasn’t to make us feel sorry for some oppressed people we all have no direct connection to.”

That right there is a statement for the ages.

  3. Since when did the Aurora shooter have full body armor? And personally if I had to take on a shooter in full body armor I would rather have a gun than not.

    • The point is “body Armor /= bullet proof vest”

These idiots don’t care or want to know the difference, they just want it banned. I bet they think car doors stop bullets too.

      • Consider also the perp had neither, he had a woven plastic vest that was black colored, such coloration immediately rendering it impervious to all law abiding intentions and projectiles.

      • Except it was not “armor” in Aurora but a black ammo carrier for AR-15 mags. Another pet peeve is the press calling 5.56 a “high-powered rifle.”

      • “Another pet peeve is the press calling 5.56 a “high-powered rifle.”

Yeah! Because I don’t see any AR-15s at NRA High Power rifle matches.

    • The media is under the impression that body armor is some sort of force field that deflects all the energy a projectile carries and thus a CCW’er popping a shooter center mass would have no effect. Body armor protects against penetration but not so much the blunt force trauma that can shock the system, break bones and booger up organs. Even with body armor that’s a lot of fpe to ignore. At the very least getting pegged with rounds will have a great chance at shifting a shooter’s focus from killing folks long enough to give other folks a better chance of surviving.

The rise of criminals using body armor is why I switched to a Glock 20 stoked with 180 gr pills at 1,300 fps.

  4. Because there’s no way Belcher (the catalyst that suddenly made Costas an expert) could have killed his girlfriend then himself with a much friendlier single action revolver or an old muzzle-loader. Oh wait.

    • There is certainly no way that a (current or former) football player could kill the mother of his children (and a friend) with a knife…

      • Or using a wooden garden rake/broom handle, by busting the handle over his knee and plunging it into her. Oh wait what about just his bare hands, twist?

        • Or the two handed 21″ bladed short sword under my bed that a monstrous football player can cut your head off with one swipe (way more deadly than a gun).

  5. “full body armor” uhm that is a flat out lie Mr. Costa, he was wearing a nylon vests with lots of pockets.
“Why do you need a semi automatic weapon?” Well lets start with semi automatic shot guns for duck hunting. Or how about the fact that not everyone has a revolver, some like semi automatic pistols. Perhaps Mr. Costa folks might prefer a semi automatic long rifle over a bolt action, just because… Gosh we haven’t even touched upon the teeth of liberty and the whole tyranny thing have we?
“I don’t see any reason a citizen should be able to arm himself in some states in ways only police or military should” Oh there we go, stop people from defending themselves against the government.. Really Mr. Costa, the idea of being able to own a fully automatic appropriately named assault rifle is for protecting you and me against an evil government, I know that is so difficult to fathom..

  6. What body armor Bob? Get your facts straight before engaging that wide spot in a nerve that you claim is a brain. Here’s a news flash, crazy people act..CRAZY! In fact, given the current state of medicine, that’s how we diagnose them, by their actions.

Cutting to the chase, your solution re guns is to treat everyone as if they are crazy. November’s election results prove that’s only slightly over half true.

  7. Funny how the man who is taken to and from work by armed guards (armed with semi-automatic pistols by the way) and lives in a building with armed security (mostly off duty police officers, armed with you guessed it, semi-automatic pistols), and works in a broadcast booth at Cowboys stadium, outside of which is posted a police officer armed with…a semi-automatic pistol, thinks that we rubes shouldn’t be allowed to protect ourselves at least as well as he is.

  8. A sports Commentator who thinks he knows the history of the these United States and the intent, purpose and actions of the Constitution and Bill of Rights of the United States of America. Fail…. Fail…. FAIL…..

Thankfully we are protect from the likes of his “protected rights”.

Never stop the fight for your rights. No infringement. Take responsibility.

    Nous Defions

  9. Another self appointed protector of the people. Though in his first rant he was some what selective, when he said:

“I defy anyone to give me one example when an athlete having a gun averted trouble, defused a situation, protected someone from harm. But we can think of countless situations where an athlete having a gun led to tragedy.”

No athlete… Well, then take away the athlete’s 2a rights and leave other the f alone. If they can’t handle the pressure of all those millions of dollars, let them get, and pay for counseling.

The public is ebbing toward gun control. Or that’s what the MSM would have everyone, including our spineless elected officials, believe. But with record gun sales on top of some 200,000,000 or so guns out there, a lot of people seem to vote otherwise with their wallets and time. Hell just on black Friday, even with an NICS system breakdown there was almost a 1% increase of guns in the hands of the people.

And on a personal note I think Costas is and always has been a jock sniffer, with no game.

  10. Hmmm let’s see…semi auto rifle….shoot at a deer that moves at the last second causing an injury instead of a clean kill. Tracking it down to finish it instead of letting it suffer….single shot rifle and where the heck did the deer go???
Semi auto rifle …bang, crap, there he is and bang, the animal is down and doesn’t run around wounded for however long it takes you or someone else to track it down.
Semi auto pistol…..BG: Freeze mofo and give me yo money. Victim: draws and fires wounding BG. BG fires back…. Oh wait a minute Mr. BG I have to reload because Bob the Dumbass Costa and others like him say we do not need semi auto pistols!! Just a second, oh ok now I am reloaded and ready, who’s turn is it anyways?? Yours or mine??
    Sarc Off!!!

  11. Sounding like Costas is on the defensive by escalating the dialogue. Here’s hoping the continued tirade and reasoned rebuttals eventually show the non-committed just how much of an idiot he really is.

  12. See Costas inject himself into something he knows less than nothing about. You should hear him talk about sports.

When he came on the football half time show, I was looking for Heinz Ward. Then he said “Whitlock” and I hit the mute button. Costas channeling that racist gentleman was more than I was up for. I had no idea the fool went on a gun control rant.

Costas is one of the breed of sports casters that knows little or nothing about the sport he is covering, and obviously has no enthusiasm for it. He detracts from the broadcast mightily. I will be unlikely to watch sunday night football anymore, unless my Steelers play. I just can’t risk hearing that ass again, even accidentaly.

    • And btw…..he picked and chose what to “channel” in regards to Whitlock…

Whitlock said: “I believe the NRA is the new KKK.”

Interesting that Costas made NO mention of that…….

  13. I said it again stop watching NBC and give AWB loving jerks the ratings. Owning a AR-15 is as American as watching football!!

  14. Let’s see, a 60 year old midget (okay he’s about 5’2-3″), with plastic surgery and a bad dye job telling me how to live my life? Bobbie, GFY, with your mini-me appendage, of course you haven’t had one for a long time. I’ll live my life the way I see fit, you can live your life with your body guards protecting your sorry rear-end.

I’ve been wanting to sell my Comcast Stock (majority owner of NBC) for some time. Thanks Bobbie for making that decision for me. I’ll use the proceeds after taxes to go buy the 1911 (plus another weapon too) that I have had my eye on.

    • Hey watch the midget crack 🙂 My dad was 5’3″, 82nd Airborne in WW2 and Korea. He said he started off in Airborne at 5’10” but the hard landing made him shorter!

      • LOL!!! Tell your dad thank you for his service. My dad also served in Korea but he was in the Air Force as a pilot.
Yea I served 15 yrs in the Army Airborne and started out at 5’11” and am now 5’8″ and lopsided. Most I our DZ’s/LZ’s had sloped terrain, and after piling up over 200 jumps I now list to one side!!! Like a leaky ship!!!

  15. Seems to me he just wanted to up his publicity. And I’ll be damned if it didn’t work. I’d never heard of the bastard until this bout of anti-gun blabber.
So now he’s off to the racist… Hmm, sorry, races, trying to get a job at the NYT or CNN. And it just might work

    • He was because one early report mistakenly said he was and that makes it true to those who want to believe it, no matter what else is discovered after the smoke has cleared.

These people also seem to think body armor equates to a magical bullet deflecting force field. Wearing body armor means you can shrug off hundreds of rounds of direct fire with hardly any notice.

These sorts of people never let ignorance or unwarranted assumptions get in the way of having a vehemently held opinion.

  16. For cryin out loud…BOB COSTAS shut the hell up when it comes to firearms, go read the sports news or what ever it is you do for a living

  17. If a dozen people had been packing Aurora may have been different? A dozen is better than 5, but even one might have made the difference in the lives of several people.

  18. Bob Costas Bites the Big One

Bob Costas should be severely reprimanded for his grossly inappropriate attack on the Constitution of the United States.

Assailing the God given rights of Americans has no place in NBC sports.

As one of the very few NBC talking heads formerly deserving respect, Costas has shown his true colors as a tool for NBC’s anti-American agenda.

Here is a snippet taken from the NRA website on Monday:

Only a media elitist, living a cloistered life inside the NBC newsroom, could let loose with such a woefully ignorant, ill-timed and irresponsible statement. Furthermore, the fact that Costas tried to partially hide behind a fellow journalist (Costas referenced sportswriter Jason Whitlock) borders on cowardice.

According to criminologist Gary Kleck, 2.5 million Americans use firearms to defend their lives and the lives of their loved ones each year. The obvious truth is that if Bob Costas and his gun-ban buddies at NBC had their way, many of these innocent men and women would not be alive today.

Seemingly, Costas has absolutely no knowledge of the fact that good men and women — and oftentimes, the physically weakest among us — rely on firearms as the only reasonable means of protecting themselves from would-be murderers, rapists and thugs.

Take the case of the elderly woman in Sarasota, Florida, who, earlier this year, used a handgun to fend off an attacker who broke through her kitchen window. “I was fearful of my life,” the grandmother tearfully told a 911 operator after she fired two shots at the intruder, causing him to flee.

Or the case of a young Oklahoma mother, who used a firearm to successfully defend herself and her three-month-old baby this past New Year’s Eve from a man armed with a 12-inch hunting knife who kicked in her door and came straight for her and her child.

On the other hand, consider the tragic reality of Bob Costas’ and Jason Whitlock’s gun-ban utopia.

In 2007, Amanda Collins was a student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Although she possessed a legal permit to carry a handgun, the university prohibited her from doing so on campus property.

Late one night, after taking a mid-term exam, Collins was attacked and brutally raped in a campus parking garage located just 100 yards from a police station. And although she escaped with her life that night, another young woman abducted near the same campus would not be so lucky.

Brianna Denison had been staying with a friend during winter break when she went missing in the middle of the night. After a frantic, four-week search, authorities finally found Brianna’s naked, frozen body, crudely hidden underneath a discarded Christmas tree. She had been kidnapped, raped and strangled to death — savaged by the same monster who attacked Amanda in the parking garage just a few months earlier.

As is often the case with media talking heads, it’s doubtful that Bob Costas has any real understanding of the recklessness of his statements. However, ignorance is never a good excuse, and that’s especially true for someone like Bob Costas, who prides himself on being a responsible journalist.

Bob Costas offended millions of law-abiding, gun-owning football fans with his gun-ban rant. He not only owes every one of us an apology, but also a promise that, in the future, he’ll stick to doing what he’s paid very well to do: talk about sports.

(Oh, yes – about the title. This only applies if we assume Barry O. has a big one. Judging from his behavior, perhaps the title should have been something like: Costas masticates a miniscule one)

  19. Whenever people like Bob Costas speak out against guns they just display their ignorance. Let him talk, it’s just the same old tired argument from Anti-2A folks.

  20. A self important little twerp who is insufferable enough in his own field-sportscasting-a job the world could easily survive without.Of course he sets off that nauseating snotty tea drinker Piers Morgan who isn’t even a US citizen but feels compelled to suggest how we should change our laws.A lot of decent immigrants come here from the UK-however,Morgan and that other non citizen scumsucker,Martin Bashir, aren’t among them.

  21. Revolvers Rule. Agree 100%. But I also have a couple of bottom feeders and I don’t want a bottom feeder like Costas telling me or anyone what we should be allowed to own.

  22. Why do we need football?

It’s pointless pissing contest which produces multi -millionairess with concussions and a propensity to beat or kill the women in their life.

What about the children, the thousands of young people, whose bodies and minds are destroyed playing a violent blood sport that is more suited to a Roman Colosseum than a modem civilized society…

Here’s a story about a teen football player who is now paralyzed!

Here’s a story about a coach that sexually assaulted a multiple generations of teenage players!

Here’s a story about a football team that gang raped a girl!

Here’s a sad mom who’s son died suddenly playing the heat because the coach refused to let him rest!

And the people who like this garbage. You’ve seem, them morbidly obese painting themselves up like primitives and hooting war cries in between swills of over priced beer and fried pork products. I’m also sure they are poorly endowed.

I think it’s time responsible people come together and have a conversion about why we should do what I say.

    /sarcasm

Did I miss any stock arguments?

  23. If Costas doesn’t think getting shot in body armor will stop a person wearing it, he should don some and take a couple of live rounds to the chest. Then maybe he will think before speaking.

  24. If you guys want to vent, perhaps you try his bosses –> [email protected]

The “Wardrobe Malfunction” had the NFL mail servers and phones being crushed, you guys should direct your venting to the NFL as well.

    • Ha oh that is funny… If NBC won’t can his butt, then make the NFL tell them to fire him.. NICE!!!!
See the power of social media goes both ways!!

  25. Come to the light Bob. I wanna throw my arm around ya and go for a walk. “You’re wrong here Bobby and I wanna tell ya to settle down.” Stick to the jock strap stats AND protect your family with the gun of your choice. Nobody will blame ya. Now quit being a tool for the politicians Bob. Somebody wants to punch ya in balls, eh. Get a grip on how well you represent pro Sports and know a lot about THAT and are paid nicely. Stop the emotional knee-jerk rants. You’re wrong buddy. Grieve like a man and shut up. This is bigger than you. Sorry Bob, you just don’t understand the issues and stepped on your little crank, again. Now walk off. It’s alright Bob. We kindof like ya. Don’t push it.

  26. Roberto talks about the gun culture as though it were a bad thing.

If he just spoke about what he knows, he would point out the human tragedy that is the “Sports Culture”. Oh no… Bob isn’t calling for the end of all sports… just the ones where alcohol is consumed, bets are made, bad language is used, crippling injuries occur, fights break out, parents set bad examples, riots following championships happen, academic cheating is encouraged, performance enhancing drugs are used, violence is glorified, stadium food contributing to heart disease, women are sexually objectified, traffic deaths after leaving the sports bar happen, poor people are taxed to build stadiums and on and on. I’d say that if Roberto wanted to provide some factual and adult perspective to the story, he would have only to point out that, if that murdering coward didn’t kill his girlfriend and himself, they would both be alive today and his gun would still be in the drawer, unfired.

I think Bob Costas is a talented sports caster. I also think if you spend your entire adult life speaking on the air, eventually your going to say something stupid. It’s the defense of a foolish mistake that’s beginning to bug me. Apparently if I disagree with Bob and friends and network, I lack the intellectual “quality” he is so abundantly endowed with.

    Mr. Costas,
Be man enough to admit that you expressed an opinion that was far outside of your professional perimeters and avoid such a mistake in the future. Each time you open your mouth to defend your uninformed position, you reveal a layer of ineptitude and naivete’ I previously didn’t know existed.

It also wouldn’t hurt to apologize to the girlfriends family if you haven’t already done it.

  27. I really didn’t care at first, but since he apparently speaks just fine with that little ol’ size six in his mouth, I decided to take advantage of that email address.
Seriously, is this some kind of concentrated attempt to get everybody pissed off, or what? I can’t think of a faster way to make sure nobody’s ready to “sit down and talk about gun violence” than to have a bunch of ill-informed jackasses do their best to alienate gun owners….

    • That’s hair??? Hell I thought a rabid badger was fornicating on his skull!!!
He really needs a new toupee maker!!!

  28. “Why do you need a semiautomatic weapon”? “What possible use is there”?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Lady (Costas), I would not even begin to explain it to you. Just keep on lecturing the ‘football’ crowd, as I am sure they will see it your way….eventually.

  29. Bob once again proves he is speaking about a topic he has no understanding of. It becomes more and more apparent the longer he talks about “no reason to own a semi-automatic weapon” but pairing that with he believes people should own guns for self defense. The gem of it all is the “Grab you wallet, your watch and your gun.” comment. I do this every day before I leave my house. I am a young person (24) I’m clearly, in his view, cavalier in my attitude toward gun ownership… Despite the facts that I am a certified firearm instructor for concealed carry in Michigan (a state in the process of passing the most comprehensive concealed carry reform I have seen, and beginning to remove “pistol free zones” in their entirety), I have been an instructor for 3 years, I have been a US Marine for 6, and lastly not related to me in anyway… the fact there is an estimated 2.5 MILLION DGU’s per year… yet somehow because I’m a young person with a semi-automatic firearm (Glock19/M&P9) I cause far more problems than those lives guns save.

Stick to SPORTS Bob, opinion is well and good but your opinion must be open to FACT CHECK and alteration when FACT contradicts OPINION.

  30. The Aurora dude wasn’t wearing body armor. A .22 would have ventilated him. But let’s not let facts get in the way of making a point.

  31. Bob’s hair dye is seeping into his skull and causing constipation of the brain and diareria of the mouth. He should be found in a hotel room with Marv Albert dressed in women’s underwear. Belcher was a walking time bomb long before this happened. The unfortunate thing is this did not come up in his background check if his gun was legal.
Phsycos and scumbags will always be able to get illegal guns as the Liberals erode our 2nd Amendment rights. Bob come on over to my house and start your rants and you will leave with your jaws wired shut.
