“When citizens of color feel the incoming government will do nothing about the hate crimes endangering their lives, they will feel compelled to defend themselves. But in a nation with as many guns as people, we must find other ways of challenging conflict, especially because African-Americans, Latinos, and Muslims with firearms will always be treated as suspects, not victims.

“Like every other citizen, they should exercise their Second Amendment rights as they see fit. Still, even in a time of threat and peril, they must also carry the sobering knowledge that constitutional guarantees tend to fall short when the hand holding a gun is black or brown.” – Renée Graham in More guns, more risk for people of color [via bostonglobe.com]

    • For some people victimhood is something to be aspired to. If they can’t be real victims they’re quite happy being imaginary victims.

    • I sense that many people, myself included, are suffering from severe victimhood fatigue. I’m tired of hearing people of color listing all the reasons they can’t possibly succeed in America. I’m tired of hearing that I achieved what I did in life, not because of my hard work, but because of ‘white privilege’. Ms. Graham appears to be a somewhat intelligent person. She should understand that if she continues to view herself as a victim of whites, that view will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. It will also cause her to scapegoat whites rather than take an honest look inward to see what her own failings are. She might be surprised by how much hard work and living by the rules affects her luck and that of her fellow ‘persons of color’.

      • Furthermore, how do these folks explain all the unsuccessful and “victimized” poor white trash? No white privilege for them?

    • I know. Seriously. WTF. At my last job my office was right next to another engineer. A black man. He wasn’t hired because he was black. He was hired because he did a great job. He was previously USMC. Was displined. Got his stuff done on time and correctly. He got his engineering degree after serving. He was an experienced and gifted engineer and an excellent source of advice for me on my own projects and a strong asset to the company. They need to stop whining and man up. And this was in Texas by the way. Yes. Texas.

  1. I’m not black or brown. I’m an ofwg, classic edition. If I’m holding a gun in my hands as the cops approach it goes on the ground and my hands go in the air.

I’m not counting on my “white privilege” to protect me anymore than I would count on my “protected minority status” to protect me was I not white.

  2. She entirely misses the point that it is the Democrats, whom she likely votes for time and again, who systematically oppress the non-white people in America. “None so blind as those who will not see.”

    • She doesn’t miss the point. She’s complicit in the fraud.

Self-appointed “black leaders” have been working hand-in-hand with statist liberals for at least a century. The Faustian bargain was to keep the blacks down via welfare, crappy schools, and an eternally stoked fire of racism, resentment, entitlement, dependency, and victim mentality, all in exchange for mindless support of Democrats at the polling booth. Dems keep power. Black leaders get rich. Blacks get a free and easy subsistence lifestyle. Works for everyone.

      • “Blacks get a free and easy subsistence lifestyle. Works for everyone.”

That easy subsistence lifestyle is available to anyone in this country. That’s why I despise the term white privilege. Drop the white and think about how privileged we are in this country. The three basic needs for existing in this life, food water and shelter, are provided to ANYONE who asks free of charge.

        • Jpt,

That free and easy subsistence lifestyle is NOT available to anyone in our nation. I personally knew a lady in her 50s who lost her job and her home (foreclosed since she did not have a job) and neither fedzilla nor the state would do anything for her. She was quite literally sleeping in someone’s garden shed with no heat or electricity during a brutally cold Winter. I actually let her stay in my basement for two weeks and another friend put her up for another two weeks to get past the nastiest cold of winter. Any guess whether she was black? (Answer: no)

        • Even if it were available to everyone, the point remains that black leaders reinforce black culture of the acceptability, even inevitability, of adequacy. The primary trajectories beyond subsistence reach for rock and sports stardom, which are extremely limited and not viable options for all but a miniscule few.

Black leaders perpetuate the dependency lifestyle, and label anyone racist who speaks out against it or works to end it, because it offers “proof” that blacks can’t make it in America, that the system is rigged against them.

Meanwhile, these leaders get richer shaking down corporations and the monolithic black vote goes Dem. You don’t hear the Asian Americans whining about ancient abuses; they’re too busy studying and succeeding today.

      • “She categorically denies the point that it is the Democrats, whom she likely votes for time and again, who systematically oppress the non-white people in America. “None so blind as those who will not see.” ”
There. FIFMe. Of course, you are correct in your analysis.

    • Thank you!

If you doubt this, go to YouTube and look for the HUNDREDS of videos of open carriers testing local police. Hint: the police treat the white open carriers like suspects in virtually ALL of the interactions — which include unlawful demands for identification, unlawful detentions, unlawful threats to arrest, and unlawful demands for the open carriers to leave. Oh, and did I mention that the police sometimes even have firearms in hand and pointed at the open carriers during these interactions?

  3. “African-Americans, Latinos, and Muslims with firearms will always be treated as suspects, not victims.”

The Anti Gun party is tooling up for ballistic balloting? Might be the first reference that Muslims are now part of the democratic base.

    • Yeah, Muslims are the new Gays. I can only guess that gays as a group aren’t immediately obvious enough to continue to warrant bonafide victim status. Can’t be a member of the in group if you can’t be identified as different by a visual scan of a crowd.

      • Can’t wait until the next (D) convention. All those homosexuals gathered in peace and harmony with a people fond of throwing homosexuals off of rooftops and shooting up gay clubs should make for a grand time.

Gotta make those pride parades halal.

        • Can we all just get along?

Sorry Muslims have a problem but we at the DNC tolerate a little gay bashing because…well there’s more of them, they vote, so…sorry about that.

          Here have a cookie 😉

    • Welcome to the new reality of politics. Everything is based on identity.

The Republican party is now the “White” party and the Democrats are the “Non-White” party.

When the left screams about “diversity” it really means “everyone but white folks” and by including Islam they also mean “Everyone but Christians.”

  4. “But in a nation with as many guns as people, we must find other ways of challenging conflict, especially because African-Americans, Latinos, and Muslims with firearms will always be treated as suspects, not victims.”

Ms. Graham, you may want to reconsider casting the lot of African-American folks with the Muslims.

    • True. The marxist demtards aren’t all that interested in the blacks any more. They haven’t imported more since the Civil War, in the last 50years have destroyed the black middle class and famiilies and have massively murder/aborting the children.

Mexcans and Mohamadans however is a BIG and growing import business. I can’t explain why the dems have thrown blacks out of the boat. By any means the dems are determined to destroy (remake) America.

  5. I think these progs give Trump too much credit. I am pretty sure he is not a Time Lord who plans to return the world to 1923 Mississippi. Their contagious, mindless panic is getting tiresome.

Someone needs to tell these children that there is no monster in their closet and they should go back to sleep. That does not mean that monsters do not exist. They just don’t normally hang out in your closet. Once you leave home, you are on your own, so be a citizen and tool up and do the right thing. Want safety or equality? Make it happen. Refuse to be a victim or a subject. Oh, wait… that also means not being a blind voter locked into the Democratic Machine. Now that’s a quandary…

  6. Wait, so she is saying because a Republican won the vote “minorities” are less safe or feel that way? Um what party is trying to remove the second amendment? (Dems) What party started the KKK? (dems) What party is in control of the poorest and most unsafe cities in the nation? (dems) I am so sick of this race batting and efforts to rewrite history I want to puck!!!!!!! However, we do hear this EVERY time a Republican takes the white house, so I should not be surprised.

  7. Ugh!!! The stupid is blinding!! I think I need mental bleach after that exercise in cognitive dissonance! I mean, hey, it couldn’t be the fact that us POCs commit 50% of murders in this country in spite of our minority status. Here’a an interesting idea… Why don’t we stop behaving like spoiled kids who think the laws don’t apply to us? Maybe we wouldn’t get stereotyped. Maybe we POCs can stop resisting arrest over warrants and traffic tickets (Sandra Bland and Walter Scott). Maybe if we don’t try to take the cops’ guns or shoot at them, they wouldn’t hurt us (Michael Brown).

  8. So basically, don’t carry a gun because racism. Even better, you’re dead because some race huckster convinced you that the consequences would somehow be worse than death if you did carry a firearm.

  9. I’m brown and the only time I have felt unsafe based on the people around me it has been people with brown skin giving me the evil eye.

Constitutional guarantees tend to fall short? Lady (er, I think), when a man – of any color – refuses to drop the gun because cops be disrespecting him, he has pretty much waived his right to a trial.

  10. Miss Graham is the kind of we’ll paid black person who is surrounded by white people at the Boston Globe and still thinks America is racist.
She and people like her believe in selected blacks living in a subservient state under the thumb of the welfare overseers. Malcolm X refereed to this type of wealthy black as a race traitor.

People of the gun have you noticed that stories about Black Guns Matter and Maj Toure gun training of new black gun owners have mostly appeared in the firearms news media? I wonder why?

You Tube is the place to be for an alternative view about black gun civil rights. And for those who didn’t know there a split between single black women on welfare and black men who voted for Donald Trump.

Miss Graham is doing the bidding of her white socialist pay masters. It would not surprise me if she was being paid a under the table by George Soros.

  11. In a WORLD with more guns than “colored” people, one would think that the “colored” people would at least raise their kids to be equal, especially in a country that they live in. Once that occurs, you won’t have successive generations of “colored” people spouting this crap.

  12. Does she mean crimes of hate perpetrated by other African-Americans?
Yeah, the government isn’t going to be much help there so tool up.

  13. Seriously why are us Asians never counted as colored. I mean, we generally are educated and don’t whine for welfare checks, maybe that has something to do with it.

    • + Ya, if the foo sh_ts, wear it, kind of thing.

Please GOD, just raise your kids to “be equal”. If they hear that they are un-equal it won’t be from me. Teach them to hold themselves up as equal to themselves, and I will work, in whatever way suitable to me, to equate myself to them

  14. Welcome to gun ownership. You’ll find ANYONE involved in carrying, using that gat or involved with the po-leece get the 3rd degree(like that 50some yearold white dude who shot a large menacing ex-NFL player…”be he was unharmed”! Nothing I haven’t encountered many times…

  15. Anyone, of any color, who is relying on the government to keep some violent shithead from endangering their life is in for a very unpleasant surprise.

  16. When I was a “victim” of a strikeout on my high school baseball team, I didn’t expect the pitcher to throw slower next time to “even” the playing field. I expected myself to rise to his level and catch up to it.

The lion doesn’t expect the antelope to run or juke slower, nor does the antelope expect the lion to be less ferocious.

Our soldiers didn’t expect the Japs, Nazis, VC or insurgents to fight fairer.

Point is, in the real world, when you are not the “equal” of someone else, you rise to their level and do what you have to do to become equal. If I was convinced the color of my skin or the birthplace of my ancestors was held against me, to me that’s all the more reason to tool up. If us white folks truly were going around systematically victimizing and committing violent crimes against POC, then we would deserve for them to use their 2A rights against us.

  17. Many people on the left worship the victim card. Hallowed be thy name!

The idea that being a responsibly armed citizen actually is empowering is something that the leftist politicians cannot allow to be mainstreamed within their political ideology.

  18. Everybody is at extreme risk when interacting with LEOs. But black people are more aware of this than white people. When a black person gets hurt, they’re like: “I knew this was gonna happen.” But when a white person gets slammed on the pavement for asking for a badge number, they’re like: “Ohmygawd! How can this be happening?!?!?!?”

  19. I’m guessing that “constitutional guarantees tend to fall short when the hand holding a gun is black or brown” while knocking over a 7-11.

  20. Has she never heard of George Zimmerman?

“Like every other citizen, they (white people) should exercise their Second Amendment rights as they see fit. Still, even in a time of threat and peril, they must also carry the sobering knowledge that constitutional guarantees tend to fall short when the person they are defending them self from is black or brown.”

      • I am intimately familiar with that case. If they do that to a Hispanic with a white name, imagine the shitstorm facing a full blooded white boy who shoots a person of the darker persuasion in self defense.
I pray that if I ever have to kill a man, his name is Timothy or Filbert rather than Jahmil or Oranjello and his twin brother Lemonjello.

  21. “When citizens of color feel the incoming government will do nothing about the hate crimes endangering their lives…”

You mean like threatening people outside a polling place with clubs, on video, and being released with no charges filed by the DoJ?

  22. So again, still, the only way to move past the issues of race in this country is simply to focus harder on race.

These people aren’t well. They need help and the professional kind.

  23. Lady, the government can’t “do something” about hate crimes until they’ve already occurred, and it does not matter one whit who is sitting in the White House. They can investigate, arrest, and prosecute perpetrators, but they cannot, nor have any duty to, protect you from hate crimes. So tool up, and maybe those hate crimes will not be visited upon you in the first place.

  24. As a so called “p.o.c” i disagree with her sentiment! i have been pulled over while CC and followed the procedures of letting the LEO know etc etc. We chatted afterwards about numerous firearms and seemed ecstatic that more “p.o.c” are exercising their rights

  25. “Never” any absolute tends to be proven wrong. Here in sunny Fort Myers a Black American concealed carrier was hailed a hero after saving the life of a police officer being beaten by a black criminal. No one viewed that Good Samaritan as anything other than an upstanding citizen.
