I suspect gargoil was referring to pwrserge’s use of “house to house”. Since most of those houses are inhabited by innocent people who live in fear of the criminals, it would be a violation of that Liberty you mentioned to perform house to house searches for criminals. That’s the sort of dictatorial police state crap we associate with communists, nazis, and other socialist societies.
But it wouldn’t help anyway, because catching them isn’t the issue in Chicago. The problem is they don’t lock up the criminals they catch for an appropriate length of time.

I saw an old scifi movie like that like two months ago. I once got lost in Chicago and drove through the slumy hood for about 35 minutes. Everyone stared at me as I drove by. And I do mean everyone. I didn’t stop anywhere – just kept going.
When I was in middle school my family took a trip to Chicago. My dad booked a hotel on the south end, no doubt because it was cheaper. Totally ignorant. We pulled up and my mom was instantly uncomfortable. Made him go in and cancel the reservation right there, then drove north to civilization. No one died so we can still laugh about that to this day.
I’ve had to travel for work at a site on Chicago’s south side. I remember looking at hotel reviews on the area. Some common themes included:
“Room/Elevator/Lobby reeks of marijuana smoke.”
“Prostitutes hang around in/outside the lobby”

Except that the vast majority of gun owners are not criminals.
Neither are blacks or hispanics mind you but statistically speaking a significant number of the crimes are committed by these two groups and in several major cities it approaches 85%.
Nationally it’s not a majority, that much is untrue. But on a local basis it is. That makes the problem addressable if not solvable. All that’s left is the willpower to do something brash about it.
