  1. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…breath…hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

    Oh, he was being serious?

  2. It’s not the NRA that’s marginalizing itself with it’s uncompromising agenda that alienates more and more Americans, it’s the Democratic party.

    • It’s amusing that liberals simultaneously call all gun owners uneducated dumb hicks, yet think that they’re wealthy enough that 3% of gun owners own over 150 million guns.

    • There are at least 300 million firearms in the US. That leaves 150 million-plus to distribute among those of us who aren’t in the hoarding 3%. If the average ownership among the rest is 2 guns apiece, that means the LA Times is demonizing a “tiny” group of 75 million people.

And still the regressive left wonders why Americans rejected the Dowager Empress of Whitehaven.

      • RealClearPolitics has the LA Times at #9 in its list of “Top 10 newspapers in trouble”.
        http://www.realclearpolitics.com/lists/top_10_newspapers_in_trouble/la_times.html

“Over the last decade, no paper has lost readership at a faster pace than the L.A. Times. And not coincidentally, the Tribune Co.’s acquisition of the paper in 2000 foreshadowed those troubles. Three weeks ago, the Times announced that it’s trimming yet another 300 jobs and eliminating the local “California” section altogether. With the newsroom about half of its size from 2001 and the continuing cutback on staff and coverage, it may be a matter of time before the woebegone Tribune Co. must dump the paper to an interested buyer or even close it down.”

(Note, this article was from 2 years ago)

  3. Clueless in LA. There are none so blind as those who will not see. True believers are like that. Prediction; I see a pandemic of lefty heads exploding over the next eight years.

    • Not to mention all the lefties out buying guns since the election who may suddenly realize that their Democrat party trying to take away their new guns is what they really need to fear.

Concentration camps, pograms and gulags are a feature of leftist governments. Conservatives just want to be left alone. And if you’re a “right winger” advocating that people who do not agree with you need to be punished and forced to comply, then you are not a conservative, you are a fascist.

  4. The Times has it backwards. The NRA didn’t stop supporting Democrats, the Democrats stopped supporting the NRA and now the Democratic Party enjoys little support outside of California and a few large urban centers.

  5. “dwindling share of gun owners”
    Hehe.
That’s some funny $h!t right there.

There in his left-wing echo chamber, he is oblivious to what it happening in America. That oblivion cost the Democrats the last election. Let’s hope it continues.

  6. He believes just what shot down the Democratic Party in this election. His views are based on California and studies from elite East Coast Universities. He knows nothing about the world in between and wants to ignore it. Good luck with that.
I was a volunteer at the NRA Convention in Louisville this year and I saw the people who support the NRA up close and personal. Not one single gun went off over the four days with an attendance of 80,450 members.

  7. And I was wondering what has just happened on Black Friday? Now I understand, it was all those dwindling gun owners reaching out from obscurity and smashing all records.

Now somebody please give the dude another joint to calm down a bit…

  8. Similar problems for anti’s here in Australia with the number of shooters and firearms still going up.

Shooters and Fishers Party just got their first member of parliament elected to lower house in NSW last month in by election. Similar to USA recall election. Media really trying to ignore him.

  9. Coastal Democrats yapping about background checks and the evil NRA while ignoring fly over country, importing immigrants faster than Plan Parenthood can murder babies…nothing wrong thinking they’re wining.

  10. …and increasingly, the right wing of the right — as it insists on an uncompromising agenda…”

Dog whistle for “dumbass rednecks who don’t care about child safety are today’s gun owners”.

Ugh. If this guy knew how much thinking and planning goes into something like a sniper challenge it would make his head spin. I’m trying to get to the one in Wyoming next September and planning and training has already started. Pages and pages of notes just on gear and weights. Check, double check, triple check. Start over rechecking and reweighing. Read reviews, borrow stuff, make sure your land nav skills are up to snuff, work out, hike 20 miles carrying 40+ lbs. Rinse and repeat. Wait, are we hiking far enough? What if the course is the full 55 miles? Can we realistically do that in the time allotted? Can I cut a few ounces here? What SPOT is required? What’s the muzzle velocity on that round from that barrel with that muffler? How close can we get to the velocity limit before we worry about breaking it for a DQ? How reliable is the data that we have? Do we need more sets of handloads and to chrono them? What’s the drop at the expected altitude at 600 and 1100 yards respectively? Hiking sticks? Fuck me! Do I need want… no need, a Kestrel for this? What electronics can I realistically expect to run up against this year?

    Yeah… screw him.

  11. He clearly didn’t witness the same election that the rest of us did. And I understand where his confusion comes into play. By passing tons of unreasonable, unconstitutional laws, liberal states like California make gun ownership so onerous that only the wealthy can afford to legally aquire and use guns. And that’s the way they want it. After all, gotta keep the poor in the ghetto and dependent on the government, or they might wise up and stop voting liberal…

  12. The distance between the NRA and the Democratic party is due to the D party being consumed by the Leftist/Communist party.

The R and D parties havent moved to the extremes but rather the D party has fallen off the Leftist cliff. A simple proof is just ask yourself to make two lists of societal issues that have moved more conservative or leftist in the past 50 years.

You could easily fill up a page of left moving issues and I’d wager most people would have to spend some real time to come up with the first conservativre shifted issue.

  13. believing your own lies is a condition with a name: Psychosis. Profound loss of contact with reality.

Bruce Jenner still has the componentry that made the obstetrician say “It’s a boy”. No person who claims the Florida Stand Your Ground law is racist can find a word in the law that invokes race. there are 2 genders, and hermaphrodites. the other 48 ( last time I heard, a week ago ) were made up in the fertile minds of people who refuse to face reality.

they taught us about the electoral college back in the .60s. It was an old thing then. suddenly the Democrats just don’t understand, despite the fact that they knew they needed 270 electoral votes before the election, when the press told them they had it in the bag.

If your theory does not agree with reality, believe reality and come up with a new theory. Failure to accept reality does not alter or diminish reality. If you claim otherwise, please post a picture of 4 year old you with your pony.

  14. Such utterly ridiculous nonsense… I realize 99% of us who type comments here (and follow this blog) are “preaching to the choir” or indulging in an “echo chamber.” But for the love of god, on what planet do these people live on?

Black Friday hit a record 158000+ NICS checks– which I presume doesn’t even count the online sales, where the checks are done at an FFL pickup, which suggests that the following week will still be resonating with that single day’s gun purchases… never mind the people who are licensed in certain states and don’t even have to do the check anymore (i.e., merely fill out a 4473 transfer). But, oh yes, this teeny weeny marginalized and entrenched group of a dwindling few “gun nuts” are just keeping a billion dollar industry cooking– when the “wrong” candidate won and it’s not even panic buying season… THESE MORONS ARE SMOKING CRACK. There can be no other plausible explanation!

I simply cannot believe that these fools are that stupid (…I can, actually…). It must be that the narrative (the oh-so Precious Narrative… where thousands of children are gunned down every morning right before breakfast, and thousands more lie in pools of blood by brunch…) will never be abandoned, at any cost, facing ANY truth, against any and all reason. Because, um, there are more guns in this wonderful country than people to fire them. And that’s a fact. Aw, poor baby.

And they think WE are the zealots??! Freaking face palm, man. I can hardly take them seriously anymore… I try, out of human decency (and family), but… upon driving back from an Arizonan Thanksgiving, my sister crossed the border into California with a group text that said, “Feeling safer now!” Accompanying it was a “meme” that declared, “The Struggle is Real!”

You’re goddamned right it is. But don’t fret, Sis… this absurd nonsense will all be over soon enough. This delusional fantasy gun control crap will go the way of the Dodo, and I’ll come to Christmas in Cali before another ten gazillion kids are mercilessly gunned down by evil gun permit holders. I promise.

    jeeeee-zussss

      • We need to get a grip on the concept of “racism”. Work with me for just a moment. If someone argues every concept and proposition rationally, and without any reference to which person is of what race (ie, no mention of this guy is black and this guy is white), can you really call him a racist? OTOH, if someone’s entire argument is all about “look here, this black guy x…x and this white guy x…x then the other guy, who was black, x…x, so obviously the fourth guy, who was white .. ” and on and on, all they want to talk about is race, ever, over and over, can you really deny that person is a racist? If all you ever want to talk about is race, then you are a racist. That includes Barack Obama and Hilarity Clinton. How we’re being fooled so badly I cannot understand.

    • There is such a thing as preaching to the choir. There’s a real risk of an echo chamber, too. You see that often on liberal sitee where opposing views are deleted or the comments are just closed outright.

Here, though, the percentage of people who comment on the articles (especially the regulars) is a very small percentage if the people who read the articles and the comments. And that audience has some churn to it, too.

So there are actually quite a few new eyes every day who are reading for the first time what’s posted here. It may be the umpteenth time we’ve each read it or wrote it, but it’s somebody’s, perhaps many people’s first exposure to it.

Even among regs, people come up with a fresh take on a familiar topic almost ever day. So I wouldn’t worry too much about trodding seemingly well worn paths. Keep doing what you’re doing.

  15. He is literally stating everything that is happening to the Democrat’s at this moment…Are people really this delusional? It’s kind of scary. He really thinks that phone study is correct too? Yes they can be this stupid or just not want to listen.

Uncompromising..NRA? Apparently he also doesn’t know history and that they actually agreed to Background checks and have NOT gotten any compromise from the OTHER side. That’s why they have stopped compromising. Every liberal I ask who states this, I ask them when has a law gone to far, unconstitutional even. They all look at me, even lawyers, “that’s not possible to be too far”, and then I state, that is why we won’t give another inch to you.

    • Progressivism is a religion. The State is their God and Authoritarianism is their dogma. Their religion is part of who they are, their identity, just like any other person with faith.

They just had a big blow to their faith. They will lash out similarly to Muslims going to a Christmas party. The fact they would have also lashed out if they had won the election never even crosses their minds.

      • The funny thing is that now they are trying to say that the whole San Bernadine terrorist attack was about him being forced to go to a Christmas party?

  16. “It was not long ago that the gun lobby enjoyed support from both sides of the political aisle. No more. Now the DNC is a fixture of the left — and increasingly, the left wing of the left— as it insists on an uncompromising agenda that alienates more and more Americans. In short, the DNC is marginalizing itself. While the NRA was victorious with this last election, the DNC is busy writing its own political obituary. Soon enough, the influence and power of the “progressive” communist movement will be in stark opposition to the burgeoning share of gun owners, whose political influence is being restored to the majority.”

    -There, fixed it for you.

  17. The left is really expending a lot of effort to put more echoes into their echo chamber.

On another note, this guy is ignoring the story about minorities buying guns after Trump’s election. Only in Liberal La-La Land does new groups buying guns translate to “dwindling.”

  18. I would really like to see the methodology of how they got that 3% number. As was pointed out that’s roughly 100 guns per each of those people. I am wondering if some dealers got counted in that survey or not. It would explain a great deal.

That said, most the gun owners I know are probably at about 10 to 20 gun range. Maybe I can be one of those upper 3%ers one of these days though!

Another piece of fake news from the LA Slime.

  19. Mr. DeBrabander premises is flawed on many levels:

First he does not understand the NRA and the devotion of its members to their cause. The NRA is a single issue organization and will support politicians regardless of party if they are pro 2nd Amendment. The democrats have made a party decision to be anti 2nd Amendment.

During the past eight years record numbers of “instant checks” have been performed, 99.9% resulting in the sale/transfer if a firearm. Well over 75% are for the sale of new firearms. American manufactures of firearms and ammunition have set new records for production, these numbers weren’t for the 3% “Super Owners”.

Recent sales numbers show that minorities are now the fastest growing segment of firearms owners followed by women. This is the NRA ‘s new membership demographics and they are pursuing them.

As recent political polling has shown or rather not shown, people will not answer or answer untruthfully to a poll if they believe they will be judged negatively by their answer.

Finally Mr. DeBrabander’s smugness betrays him just as the smugness of the Democrat Party had with their faith in demographic numbers which promised them victory. Their ignoring of “white working class voters” proved fatal. The NRA, which is a bottom up member organization is not predicated on race, ethnicity, class, political party or religon. The resilience and growth of the NRA will continue to surprise Mr. DeBrabander just as firearms sales and pro 2nd Amendment laws are passed.

    • Even if it has, there are still something on the order of 200,000,000 firearms owned by the remaining 97%. Do the math: If the average is somewhere between 1 to 2 firearms per owner, that still leaves somewhere between 100 million and 200 million other gun owners out there. Although that is only around one-third of the overall population, when you delete the young who can’t purchase firearms and those too old, legally incapacitated, or the incarcerated, you end up close to half of the population entitled to have arms who actually own them. Diminishing my a$$.

  20. Question; if gun ownership is declining, how do new records of NICS’s checks keep on coming? I guess you need to be able to read & comprehend.

    • Why not just admit we are wrong? We no longer have guns, so there is no necessity for more laws, we can just forget the whole thing! It’s OVER!

  21. We don’t compromise because compromise gets us absolutely nowhere with the progressive liberal left give them an inch and they’ll take a gosh damn mile. Screw the left that’s what I say don’t let them have a goddamn inch. Trump is in office now and for the first time in a long time we control the house and the Senate time to squash this left Uprising against freedom and our constitution it’s absolutely ridiculous that people in this country don’t support the constitutional rights that are given to each and every citizen. This is hogwash time to get rid of these liberal progressives for some out of the freakin country. Bunch of freaking Crooks every one of them just look at Hillary Clinton their leader friggin Federal felon. As soon as Trump gets in office Hillary Clinton is going on a long trip to the federal penitentiary. Cannot wait to see her ass locked up with her ignorant husband.

  22. Oh when I used to frequent my local health club I used to talk about guns. And an old black guy claimed he was an NRA member but they were lyin’ about Barack-“he ain’t after my guns!” But he is and he was…I don’t blame the LA LA Times dude for being retarded-he’s gots lot’s of company.

  23. My liberal sister-in-law is a lot like these kinds of people. A professional student, she can expound at length about many things and the way things ought to be. However, real world experience = zero. That being said, she does want to learn how to shoot guns.

It call all be summed up as folks who simply believe that the way things are in their little world, is the way things are everywhere. Be it “think tanks”, universities, news agencies or “enlightened” cities. These people, their opinions and feelings are purely theoretical with no real world application.

  24. My wife and I taught 7 new people (5 had never shot a gun before) to shoot this year and 2 have already bought their first gun and 2 more are saying they will soon. I’m hoping to do that with 10 next year. I know many others are doing the same. Just sayin’

  25. Poor man has his California mind set showing. What he fails to remember, or perhaps never knew is that California make up only 4.4% of the entire land mass of the United States. So I, as someone who lives in the remaining 95.6% free United States, say to California and those who like the politics, misinformation and distorted opinions of the L.A. Times, STFU. Let the remainder of us live our lives in peace. We’ll continue to support the NRA and own our guns. Just sit in your sandbox, cry and s**t in your dipper as the red state adults get on with our lives and ignore you.
    Senior Gun Owner 1950

      • Not for those of us who live in Far Northern California (i.e., anything from Sacramento north) or the Central Valley. We like our guns and our CCWs, things that would soon disappear if there were a CALEXIT.

      • Not ALL of California, don’t let those Bastards have Yosemite, Sequoia/Kings Canyon or Tahoe! Central valley is valuable too. Didn’t I read that the problem really lies within 25miles of the coast from San Fran south? Cut those losers off and keep the rest. Market rates for Sierra water sources will apply.

  26. ..You cannot hope to bribe or twist a lefty L.A. Journalist

…But when you see what they will write unbribed,

    ..There is no reason to.

  27. See, it’s true! 3% of half of gun owners own 900% of all the guns in one third of the world’s right wing! You can look it up in the LALALand Times!

Question: Does the LALALand Times publish an English language edition, or only a Mexican one?

  28. another Seig Hiel for der Furher propaganda piece , almost as bad as the DNC being commandeered by a Radical Muslim from Minnesota and a supporter of Radical Somali’s and a supporter or Ji-had.

  29. Even IF you would accept his smug and demonstrably ridiculous premise, how does he account for the explosion in numbers of CCW permits across the nation? I suppose in his alternate universe 1,000 guys could have all bought 158 guns each, avec paperwork on black Friday. But the thing with CCW’s is they are one to a customer regardless of whether you have your own armory or one simple carry weapon, and those numbers have gone ape over the last few years. Then again this doesn’t include states with Constitutional carry or those individuals who simply carry and aren’t telling anybody anything.

I think this is why socialists are threatened by the entire ‘Adapt, Improvise, Overcome’ mantra. In order to adapt you have to first face the situation as it actually is as opposed to what the narrative says.

  30. It’s not the NRA that moved to the right/pro-gun, it’s the Democrats/liberals that moved away from the Bill of Rights/Constitution.

  31. So let’s just ignore all the recent press about minority and LBGTQ folks rushing to buy guns for the first time fearful of a Trump presidency.

  32. I can only hope the NRA dies. The money keeping them afloat will be used much better by an organization that didn’t support continued gun control within the last 5 years (renewing the UFA).

  33. Half the firearms in the U.S. are owned by 3% of adults, and that means trouble for the NRA

This just in: 90% of liberal journalists still believe their own polls.

  34. LOL. I think this guy is gravely mistaken. 250 million guns sold in just the last 17 years. 3% of the population is a leftist pipe dream.

  35. Alternative text: The American left is now firmly in the anti-2A camp. The Democrats have openly embraced infringement, modification, and removal of the Second Amendment. In other words, left of center politicians take oaths of office with the full, stated, explicit intentions of defying the Constitution. Battle lines are clearer than ever.

  36. “Soon enough, the influence and power of the gun rights movement will match the dwindling share of gun owners.”

So – is he saying that the number of those who *don’t* own guns, but still support gun rights is growing?

    Sounds good to me!

  37. Wow! The leftist really have no clue that they jumped the shark. Sure, they are still able to cause a lot of damage to our Constitutional Republic, but seriously, if 1/2 the voters in America voted for Trump, it is certainly a sign that they screwed up big time.

  38. Hopefully an earthquake will take 500 miles of California coastline and another will take NYC down to D.C., then middle America and their values can be in charge of America! Go NRA!
