“Before, we always knew who we were chasing — the bad guy — but we knew most of the people didn’t have a gun concealed, and if they did, they were responsible. We don’t know that anymore. So I’m for responsible gun control.” – The formerly NRA A-rated Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) in Joe Manchin: Second Amendment Needs More Regulation [via breitbart.com]

  1. In other words, Mr. Due Process is Killing Us is really saying: “Freedom sucks”.

Hey Elmer, be straight with us. Tell us we need more totalitarian elitist government control of we lowly worthless peasants.

    • Using Manchin’s twisted logic, we should repeal the First Amendment since some people, including criminals and terrorists, verbally advocate violence and/or use speech during the commission of a crime. Better to silence the entire the population than risk having a bad guy say something that might get someone hurt. And while we’re at it, we need to take another look at that pesky Fourth Amendment and its protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. Just imagine how safe America would be if we allowed the police to randomly search every home. Weapons, drugs, contraband could be confiscated. Aren’t these reasonable restrictions worth it if they save one child’s life?

      • The Fourth may as well be written on toilet paper – that’s really all it’s suitable for. It’s merely a theory these days, long since ‘compelling interest’-ed around. Besides, the cops don’t care – they do as they please, and the worst that happens is they don’t get a conviction to put in their jacket.

Feds care even less – Patriot made the Fourth a historical footnote.

        • Not just the fourth, but the sixth and the seventh as well. After all, we certainly can’t take the time to about criminals due process of law or trial by jury.

          Just think of the children…

        • I am pretty sure that the only one of the Bill of Rights that has not been routinely violated by the Feds is the Third Amendment, but I am sure it is only a matter of time until they decide to quarter troops in our homes.

          For the children.

    • Manchin got an A rating for the same reason every mass shooter on the news passes a background check: No background of abuses does not guarantee that no abuses will come later.

    • He did a 180 and jumped on the gun control bandwagon after being re-elected. In the last 4 years, he has pretty much flipped on every position he campaigned on. His political career is over in WV and he knows it so he doesn’t even try to hide his true thoughts anymore.

      • True enough, but they are stuck with him for the next two years, which means we are stuck with him. This is why trusting a Democrat is even worse than trusting a Republican (not that they are particularly trustworthy). All politicians suck and Democrats suck more.

    • This was the primary reason I stopped directly supporting the NRA. They are absolutely a one-issue organization and endorse politicians solely and entirely on their history regarding gun control votes. This is, in my opinion, extremely short-sighted.

I pay close attention to the stand politicians take on the Second Amendment, it is very important to me in judging their over-all stand on Constitutional issues and liberty, but…Democrats are not just about controlling your guns, they are about controlling YOU. No matter how well a Dem scores on some questionnaire the NRA sends out he is going to vote against my liberties most of the time and is extremely susceptible to party pressure to change his vote on critical gun control legislation. Republicans, not so much (as much as any politician can be trusted).

  2. Everything and more is belief in the interrelatedness of all things.

A principal idea ever stuns the onlooker.

See, I can talk nonsense too!

    • Turn my right into a privilege even when criminals won’t bother to get a permit? Derp. Surely you’re trolling and not this obtuse.

    • I live in a Constitutional carry state and I have permits for several other states…and I pay attention. The majority of criminals are already prohibited due to prior convictions, so permits do practically nothing to prevent bad guys from carrying guns. The only real advantage to having a permit is that I do not have to have a background check done every time I buy a new gun, for that has already been done. The advantage to police in a Constitutional carry state is that they never assume everyone is disarmed…which is actually a good thing.

    • Maybe we should get a permit to speak as well.

How about we force people to apply for a permit before the government will stop cruel and unusual punishment against them?

Unwarranted searches and seizures? Hope you’ve got your permit up to date!

Want to take your buddy to church? NOT SO FAST! The State must approve his interest in religion first.

    • A permit from who? And who gets to decide what criteria disqualify you from the permit? Are you absolutely certain that you will not fit into any of their disqualifications, or that they won’t dream up a new disqualifier that turns you into a felon if you do not turn in your guns post haste?

What part of “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” gives any authority to any person, organization or government entity to issue permission slips before you can exercise your natural right to bear arms?

If you think the government has the authority to decide who may or may not exercise their Second Amendment protected right to keep and bear arms then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of the amendment and especially the “…shall not be infringed.” restriction.

  3. BGs are going to carry, anyways.

And considering most of the population isn’t going to carry a gun regularly and most folks aren’t felons, let’s not pretend like we are preventing the apocalypse by stopping Con Carry.

    • Did you pick up on the complete logical disconnect? ” but we knew most of the people didn’t have a gun concealed, and if they did, they were responsible.” Umm, hey Joe, aren’t all those criminals out there carrying concealed too? So how can you say that they were “responsible” if they were carrying illegally?

  4. So if the gun the bad guy is carrying is concealed, how do you know who they are? And how many bad guys have you chased down, you half-wit?

More evidence illustrating why I’m still praying for an asteroid to hit the Capitol at the next SOTU. These morons can’t be trusted to manage their way out of a wet paper sack, much less affairs of state.

  5. Maybe we can get him to help pay for the cleanup of all the blood flowing in the streets and the people that drown in said blood. /Heavy Sarc

  6. Manchin’s just another phony baloney D.C. liberal who curses God and his parents for not having been born and raised in San Francisco or New England.

He’s a no talent hick with a West Virginia U. diploma on the wall, and an envious as hell chip on his shoulder, hobnobbing with Establishment liberals and Ivy League insiders.

His career is a soul sapping balancing act between self-loathing on the D.C. cocktail party circuit and self-preservation back in WV. So we get lame rifle-toting ads as he gears up for another election, and unconstitutional infringements throughout his terms of office. Just another forgettable hollow man, desperate for recognition.

      • Well, as we say in Texas, a guy like Manchin really chaps my hide.

I did come back to make one clarification, though. I don’t have a problem with WVU, myself. By all accounts it’s a fine institution with many nationally ranked programs, particularly at the graduate level.

I only meant to suggest that Manchin has a problem with it and wishes he were one of the Eastern Elite types with an Ivy pedigree.

  7. “I could totally oppress the shit out of you if my power were unchecked. Wait… I mean stop crime. Yeah stop crime; I could totally stop crime if my power were unchecked, yeah, that’s the ticket”–Joe Manchin

    • Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against… We’re after power and we mean it… There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.

Probably my favorite passage in any book I have ever read. and appropriate.

      • For the uninitiated, that’s from “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, at the point where a government agent attempts to pressure Hank Reardon to do something he is philosophically opposed to by threatening him with a ten year prison term for violating a stupid and in reality unconstitutional law. Dr. Ferris represents an increasingly fascist and socialistic form of government taking over America.

        Hmmm….

  8. So, what he’s doing is invoking the new meme that legally Armed Citizens pose a “threat” to Law Enforcement because “formerly” only “bad guys” were carrying guns on the street. Now that more “good guys” are carrying guns on the street LEO’s cannot be sure who’s a BGWAG and who’s a GGWAG. Maybe a topic for another “Question of the day” article would address how we resolve this recent leftist invented conundrum.

  9. Examine if you will Manchin’s sloped, Cro-Magnon forehead, his eyes too closely set and his vacuous grin. Let’s face it — Crazy Joe is not exactly the brightest knife in the chandelier, probably due to centuries of inbreeding.

Every time he speaks, I find myself wondering — can he play the banjo as well as that kid in Deliverance?

  10. A well regulated Legislature, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

A well regulated Jurist, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

    Time to start regulating.

  11. It is interesting to see so many different responses citing additional amendments to the constitution being in peril. The domino effect is real. If/when the 2nd falls it will take the rest with it.

  12. Really Joe?? I hope for one thing your NRA rating goes to a D-.
Then in whatever election cycle your in even a C rated Dimocrat takes your seat.
You certainly no longer deserve to have one and the folks in West Virginia aren’t as dumb as most of the country thinks.
