ADDED: Looks like Mike didn’t hoover up all evidence that he’d been in Aspen. Andrew Potter helpfully linked to the above audio of Bloomberg’s comments via our Facebook page. Jump ahead to the 41:00 mark for the relevant portion.

As Robert reported last week, billionaire plutocrat and civilian disarmament supporter Michael Bloomberg made some controversial comments in a recent speech concerning the real objective of his push for more restrictions on the Bill of Rights. Where young minority males are concerned, the former caudillo of New York City opined that, “Cities need to get guns out of this group’s hands and keep them alive.” News of Bloomberg’s comments about limiting the rights of people of color made the rounds throughout the blogosphere and even corners of the traditional press. Mayor Mike’s reaction to the ensuring kerfuffle was as swift as it was predictable . . .

He has moved to block release of the video of the event.

Michael Bloomberg representatives have asked the Aspen Institute not to distribute footage of his recent appearance in Aspen, where the three-term New York City mayor made pointed comments concerning minorities and gun control.

Both the Institute and GrassRoots TV, the organization that filmed the event, confirmed Thursday that they will not broadcast the footage online or on television as planned.

“We basically honor the wishes of our speakers, and Mayor Bloomberg preferred that we not use the video for broadcast,” the Institute’s chief external affairs officer Jim Spiegelman wrote in an email Friday. “He did not give a reason nor did we have any reason to ask for one. We often feature speakers who prefer that their presentations not be videotaped.”

Appearing before nearly 400 people in Aspen on Feb. 5, the billionaire founder of Bloomberg L.P. argued that in order to save lives, police should seize guns from male minorities between ages 15 and 25.

It’s not surprising that Mr. Bloomberg would want to suppress these rather embarrassing comments that appear to have him line up on the same side with some of the worst elements in American political history. It’s a bit more disappointing that the Aspen Institute, whose mission is ostensibly to be “to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues” is going along with the whitewash. I suppose transparency and speaking truth to power aren’t part of the “enduring values” they’re trying to promote.

No matter. The truth is out there, thanks to the Aspen Times.

  1. Caudillo- Military strong man/dictator of an authoritarian power. Also known as having a Napoleonic power complex.

He can’t have the peasants, peons and especially those that were once slaves to actually have weapons that would allow them to say no to their “betters”.

    • Even better–in Latin America, “caudillo” might refer to the local “political boss”, not necessarily a military man, more like a Tammany man who runs his bailiwick like a personal fiefdom. Perfectly appropriate title for Bloomie, kudos to Johannes.

  2. Isn’t it ironic that the same crowd that is so concerned about responding to bullies doesn’t recognize one in their midst?

    • I think that they’re more than aware of it, but let the hypocrisy slide because they think they’re “in the right”.

      • Socialist Libtards have let it slip more than once that they’ll “do whatever it takes to win”. They truly believe and openly say “the ends justify the means.”

This is why I believe there is no limit to how low they will stoop, in order to accomplish their goal of subverting the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution – That includes false-flags, if they deem it necessary.

  3. If the observers had even noticed what his statements disclosed about him, we would never have heard a thing about it. I mean, face it, his views are not racist, he wants to take ALL our guns. Saying he wanted to take somebody’s guns surprised no one, so the word got out. It took other people to notice his boo-boo.

  4. Something occurred to me when I read this again. Bloomberg specifically focused on removing firearms from urban minority males between the ages of 15 and 25. Why? Just a year ago he was all about removing all firearms from all people. And now his apparent concern only involves urban minority males between the ages of 15 and 25?

Did Bloomberg finally realize that good responsible people who happen to own firearms are not raging lunatics? Did he finally realize that concealed carriers commit all crimes at rates lower than sworn law enforcement officers? Did he realize that the populace has figured this out and that is why over 65% of the U.S. population doesn’t want any more gun control?

    • Uncommon Sense, I read this as desperation. Your last question is what I think this is about. He knows he’s losing . The American people have pushed back hard and fast and we have a lot of momentum right now.

    • @uncommon_sense, I think that Blameberg views YBMs as the low-hanging fruit of civilian disarmament. Don’t worry — he hasn’t forgotten about the rest of us.

  5. This shouldn’t surprise anyone. We’re dealing with someone that’s trying to suppress the RKBA, an essential liberty. Now he want’s to suppress the freedom of the press.

  6. Any politician who appears with Bloomberg or accepts his $$$, just paint them as a racist and have the bloggers write the pols support his racist views. He becomes very toxic very quickly, as does his gun control org. 🙂

As for Aspen Institute, just put out there that they share and endorse his radical racist views. That will hurt their ability to draw speakers and that hurts the $$

Now does this mean Shannon will have more free time?

    • Actually, the Aspen Institute’s mission is “to foster leadership based on enduring Progressive values and to provide a false nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical Liberal issues.”

      • Bill, Progressives are as or more racist than any other political identity or movement. The original US Progressive movement gave us “scientific racism” and “scientific eugenics” targeting minorities

    • Radical racist views? How so? He spoke the truth. The 15-25 y/o black urban male demographic is resp[onsible for 85% of all murders committed with firearms. And if they were limited to chains, bats and switch blades. the death rate would drop like a rock.

      • Look I’m in that age range and never even considered murder. So that’s racist….not all young minority males are criminals just like how all whites are not mass shooters and all muslims are not terrorists

      • Mark, no. The FBI data shows where race is indicated in police reports, black males in the age 17-40 (about 3% of the population) commit 53% of US murder.

Bloomberg is claiming young black males commit murder at 32 times the rate everyone else does, when in fact it is only 18 times the rate of everyone else

  7. I’ve said all along that Bloombag would fail. All his little dog and pony shows like Mayors or Gun sense and Mothers, and all his money won’t make any difference. Unpopular is unpopular no matter how you sugar coat it.

  8. This guy is the American Soros. I cannot understand why people do not see bloomeberg for the despicable runt tyrant that he is.

  9. Cowards. Not taping a speaker who asks, beforehand, is one thing. Refusing to release a tape because the speaker in retrospect realized he said some pretty ugly things, is quite another.

  10. IIRC, Bloomberg initiated the Stop and Frisk policy in NYC back in 2003.

Guess which NYC residents were stopped and frisked the most during that program?

  11. If this doesn’t indicate a massive, ongoing conspiracy to promote civilian disarmament then I don’t know what would!?

Where there is smoke, there is also fire… Where do the lies stop? Ask yourself: How far would they be willing to go and how highly placed are their assets?

Do you think they would try and stage “active shooter scenarios” complete with contrived court cases and crisis actors playing the role of aggrieved family and victims?

If not, what exactly do you think is stopping them? They have cops and judges on their side, no doubt about that… So tell me brother gunny, how much faith do you have in this system of ours?

    • What are you talking about?

A politician realizing he made a stupid soundbyte and wanting to block access to it isn’t a conspiracy anymore than a bear dropping a load in the woods. It’s just what they do.

  12. YIKES! Confirmation of the desperation of the malevolent midget. Does bloomie realize how much he sounds like a certain Austrian A##wipe?

  13. The urge to save humanity, by limiting the size of sodas and gun ownership, is always and everywhere a false face for the urge to rule it – said some famouse dude.

  14. I’m going to reiterate this: Everyone should download this video as quickly as possible. If he really wants to scrub this from the internet, it won’t take long for his minions to start flagging these Youtube vids and filing DMCA takedown complaints. Even if they’re not valid, enough flags and complaints can get the vids taken down.

  15. I am all for squelching Bloomer permanently. Put him in a straight jacket in a rubber room for the next 30 years so he can’t hurt himself and deduct his upkeep from his billions and donate the rest to the poor.

  16. I think the reason that Bloomie wants this scrubbed is (1) it makes him sound like a racist, and (2) the comment is in fact true, and that truth undermines the entire argument for universal registration and confiscation, because the vast majority of lawful gun owners are not the problem, and are not the “cause” of “gun violence” in America.

  17. “He did not give a reason nor did we have any reason to ask for one. We often feature speakers who prefer that their presentations not be videotaped.”

Yes, but in this case the presentation WAS videotaped, so featuring speakers who “prefer that their presentations not be videotaped” is 100% irrelevant. Why not post it if Bloomberg has not given any reasoning for why not to do so? Did he sign an agreement with Aspen and GrassRootsTV saying he would be allowed to squelch their footage if he didn’t like it? Do your damn jobs and release the footage like you know you would if a Republican / pro-gun advocate made similar remarks.

I’m certain if you asked these questions of the Aspen Institute or GrassRootsTV they would waffle and equivocate, but if by some twist of fate you managed to get honest answers out of them the truth would be that they 1) agree with Bloomberg’s agenda and 2) realize his comments were offensive and are choosing to self-censor so their favored policies aren’t jeopardized. Absolutely despicable.

  20. I know this is old history, but it is very telling concerning the attitude of the Democrat Party and their anti-gun agenda–blame it on minorities.
That is exactly what he does:
    “75% of murders”
“cops are in minority neighborhoods because that is where the crime is”
Well, the crime is there because of FDR’s “New Deal” and LBJ’s “Great Society” and Carter’s “Dept of Education” all of which have managed to take the Black population from 7% born out of wedlock to 73% and over 70% raised in single-parent homes and mostly in poverty. Time to grow up America, and smell the truth. Obama did nothing to change any of that, choosing instead to increase the divisiveness in America whith his rhetoric and speech.
