ammo ammunition feat

In Florida, you can’t legally own or have a firearm if you’ve been convicted of a felony, if you’re under a domestic violence restraining order, or if you’re deemed a “violent career criminal.” You also can’t legally own or have a firearm if you’re the subject of an extreme risk protection order under the state’s red flag law, which a judge can issue for people deemed dangerous to themselves or others.

Jaime’s Law would not restrict the rights of legal gun owners, [State Rep. Dan] Daley said. And there are exemptions for people who buy ammunition at shooting ranges or hunting camps and intend to use it at those places.

People who pass the background check when they buy ammunition would be exempt from public records requirements, meaning information about who bought or transferred ammunition would not be available publicly.

“It’s not the ‘we’re coming to take your guns’ everyone seems to think it is,” he said. “We’re trying to be as reasonable as possible while getting to the root of the issue — a bad guy with a gun can walk into a store and buy as much ammunition as you like.”

  1. Unless, of course, you’re a gang banger and/or illegal! Then none of the aforementioned rules apply. And dont worry about any prosecution, that’s pretty much on it’s way out also!

      • Sorry, but all of you are missing the point of these new restrictions. Anti-gun nuts aren’t passing these laws to stop criminals. These laws are designed to add more and more tripwires to those who obey laws. Next, it will be burdensome taxes on firearms and ammunition. We are slowly being strangled with one law after another. They know that an outright ban on firearms will never work because of the 2nd Amendment. This is a slow death by a thousand wounds. We have become frogs in a pot of water that has the heat being turned up very slowly until it reaches the boiling point and then it is too late.

        • Dan Daly is a Democrat which means he cannot be trusted when it comes to firearms or anything else for that matter!

He should do Floridians a Favor and move to California with the Rest of His Kind and take the other Demonrats with him!

By the way, The Democrat Party is the Enemy of U.S.!

        • Agree…send Dan to CA.
And…if this guy feels so strongly about ammo laws that make no sense….He should move there too!!! TODAY!!!

  2. The problem with laws like this with what on the surface appear to be good intentions is that they ignore the fact that these laws only effect law abiding people and have no effect on people that regularly break the law. They don’t care what the law is because there is always a way around it and they don’t plan to abide by it anyway.

  3. “It’s not the ‘we’re coming to take your automobile’ everyone seems to think it is,” he said. “We’re trying to be as reasonable as possible while getting to the root of the issue — a alcoholic guy with a car can walk into a store and buy as much gasoline as you like.”

  4. “Jaime’s Law would not restrict the rights of legal gun owners” just makes some more hoops, costs, and difficulty for them right?

I am guessing buying online would be a no-no unless shipping to an FFL? Otherwise how do you get your background check? I am sure those checks are free and instant too, right? Same system that couldn’t get a same day background check a couple weeks back after waiting over an hour and a half, so now we can sit around waiting for an hour at our FFL to pick up our online ammo orders? If it goes down or demand is high then we just can’t get ammo that day?

    That sounds reasonable, sure.

Or try keeping the known violent criminals in jail instead of dropping or reducing charges on then. They are going to immediately commit more crimes anyway. They aren’t legally allowed to have guns so prosecute them.

    • Really? Weren’t bump stocks illegal there before 2019? Before the Federal gubberment made them illegal? Pretty sure your “pro-gun state” made them illegal in 2018 after Parkland…. because virtue signaling saw the light of day then, you can expect this to see the light of day now.

  5. From the OrangeRibbons website (home for Jaime’s Law)

“What is Jaime’s Law? Fred Guttenberg, the father of Parkland victim Jaime Guttenberg, is introducing “Jaime’s Law” aimed at curbing gun violence through a new type of background check”

Florida, Broward County, and the Parkland school system had more than enough legal methods – *and* the time and opportunities to use them – to have done something about Nickolas Cruz years before the Parkland shootings. The system(s) failed at every level, which is where these Congress critters ought to be focusing their efforts, but won’t.

    • Of course it’s that guy. He got screwed by a random accident of fate that he’s emotionally unable to deal with, and he’s using it as some kind of moral license to punish everybody else.

But hey, I know… Because that tragic crime happened, let’s make all the law-abiding people who DIDN’T do it, and never would, jump through some new hoop that would’ve made no difference even if it had been in place at the time. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Makes perfect sense.

    • What was Cruz’s criteria for denial? Nothing, because he was purposely kept out of the legal system. Jamie would be just as dead if this law was in place 10 years ago.

  6. All of the key phrases are there:

    LOOPHOLE
    CERTAIN EXEMPTIONS
    STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
WE’RE NOT TRYING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS
NAMING A LAW AFTER A DEAD CHILD

It’s ALL UTTER BS. Yes, they want our guns. To them having a firearm is a dangerous loophole. What is the direction that they want? Sorry for your loss, but enough exploiting a dead child to push leftist goals. Exemptions are only TEMPORARY until they can pass ever more draconian measures.

    • Liberals all have the same problem. They think that very complicated social problems can be solved with quick easy fixes, hence, so many ridiculous laws are passed by them. Most of these problems are caused by things like the destruction of the basic family unit, the lack of a sensible moral code, a mass media and entertainment industry that glorifies the misfits of society, and religious and political leaders who use social unrest for political gain. THERE ARE NO EASY FIXES TO COMPLICATED PROBLEMS.

  7. The good news for Florida is it’s actually gotten more red, red enough to the point where democrats are considering slashing spending there.

That is a very good sign. But they’d divert that money to Georgia, which is looking more favorable to them now. So bad news for Georgia.

Florida’s Cubans/Hispanics are very turned off by the embracing of socialism by the Democratic Party and it may have permanently damaged their presence in the state. Long thought of as a state that would eventually succumb to a blue tide and forever become liberal, and drag the rest of the south with it, democrats now see Florida more like Missouri. A trending red state for the foreseeable future that they’d rather not sink money into.

    • Diverting money to Georgia is right, you have any idea how many Jon Ossoff and Ralph Warnock adds I have been subjected to over the last week alone? Absolutely nauseating! I dumped cable decades ago to avoid these jerks now they are all over the radio and their sycophants in cable news are pushed in my face by Big Tech.

  8. The way these lawmakers twist themselves into pretzels to avoid the simple truth is amazing. One question: who are most of the bad guys and why do said bad guys enjoy the “revolving door” justice system? I’ll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count.

    • How much ammo are the truly “gun violent” even buying from retail suppliers? Do they shop Black Friday sales at Cabela’s? Do they buy uppers and mags from Brownells with a coupon, and dial in their optics for a precision rifle match? Are they shooting USPA and 3 gun matches, buying a couple cans of 5.56 on stripper clips?

Or do they take the Taurus their buddy lifted from the glove box of an unlocked car that only has three quarters of a loaded mag and stuff it in their waist band and call it good? How much ammo does the average bad guy have in his stash?

The “clean” straw purchasers will buy the prohibited persons the guns and ammo they want, when they aren’t just stealing or trading it “on the streets.”

  9. “Prospects aren’t great for passage of such a bill. The Florida Legislature has generally been friendly to gun owners and hostile to restrictions.”

    For now.

One heinous mass shooting and all bets are off…

    • “Florida is friendly to gun owners”…ha, hahahaha! Yes, why again is it that campus carry and open carry keep dying in committee, Republican controlled Governor/Senate/house?

Why does the FL Republican leadership keep installing anti gun leaders for the Senate and sticking their most anti gun committee members so nothing progun makes it to the floor? Why did the Senate leader have an antigun Republican submit proposals for universal background checks and closing the infamous gun show loop hole? Why did the Florida Republicans vote for and pass a law banning sales of guns to those 18- 21, banned bump stocks including things that aren’t bump stocks, a red flag law without due process, and am extra waiting period on rifles, stripped lowers, and even silencers if you don’t have a concealed permit?

Yes, with “friends” like these, who needs Democrats?

  10. I no longer believe in good intentions. They know exactly what they are doing with their incremental approach, making owning a gun and ammo more and more difficult by little bits to erode the support for it.

Gun ownership used to be supported by hunters. But hunters have dramatically declined in numbers over the decades. And among those that remain, there seems to be an unfortunate tendency to sacrifice the rest of us in a vain attempt to preserve their little area of interest.

Fortunately they were replaced in the 90’s and 2000’s by the growing concealed carry and tactical crowds, and most gun owners today are much broader based in their interests than previous generations.

If not for that, there would be so few of us left that we would have no political legs at all.

His line about trying to be reasonable is an insult. We are trying to be reasonable by not shooting anti gun politicians……….yet.

      • Shall not be infringed. Why is that simple statement in our constitution so hard for some people to understand? We are all to blame for that. We have let liberal politicians and activist judges blur a simple statement to the point where it has lost all meaning. We have seen the enemy and it is us.

    • To most Fudds in the hunting crowd, a box (20 rounds) per year is all someone needs. 3-5 at the range to check zero and the rest for deer season. With luck, one box will last several years.

  11. How about a warning label tattooed on every criminal released from prison? That’s no more a violation of his rights than your bill will be of mine.

And it would be a heck of a lot more useful. As in the old days of branding just the obvious absence of a tattooed by being removed would be prima facie evidence of them being a criminal.

THEN you could use that tattoo as a means to deny the ones who are a problem from buying ammunition.

Why do politicians keep trying to make laws that only affect the law abiding. Time to make laws that are aimed at the criminal. No not someone who’s a suspect but an actual criminal who’s not allowed to possess a firearm so has no need for bullets.

But for some reason their right of privacy trumps my right of a presumption of innocence.

We’re going to be seeing a lot of this crap in the next 4 years. Thanks GOP. Hope you enjoy the rest of your terms because you’re not coming back.

    • Tattoos can be changed, and besides most “jail birds” now have so many I could not distinguish one from the other.
Why do ” they” go after the law abiding? It would be my assumption that the law abiding are the only ones whom laws affect.

  12. Perhaps in the future a person will be required to turn in all the empty cartridge cases, or unexpended ammunition. For instance, “Why are you purchasing these?” To go deer hunting. And after the hunt your required to turn in the loaded and unloaded cartridges. Losing ammunition results in a substantial fine with possible incarceration carrying with it the stipulation that no further ammunition be sold to you for a year.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the U.S. government require manufactures of bulk powder that produce powders sold in the U.S.to have a shelf life, I’ve heard it was five years. I believe this was brought up during the William Clinton presidency but have heard nothing of it thereafter.

    • Yeah! Brilliant! Every week, everybody should have to turn all their unused ammo over to me! Wow! It’s amazing anyone could be so stupid!

    • There was a proposal after the Oklahoma bombing to add chemical tracer tag (aka taggants) to propellant powders. Which was funny because Oklahoma City bombing was done with a fertilizer bomb.

Propellant manufacturers said these chemical tracers could affect the burning rates of powders and may even cause instability as they break down. The matter was dropped as far as I know but guaranteed to be on a gun control crusaders wish list for the right event.

  13. How about legislation to prove that feeble old imbicles are qualified to walk their animals and chew gum at the same time, without breaking their foot… awfully inconsiderate of them to be putting a strain on a healthcare system that is already overloaded dealing with the ChinaFlu.

  14. “It’s not the ‘we’re coming to take your guns’ everyone seems to think it is,” he said. “We’re trying to be as reasonable as possible while getting to the root of the issue — a bad guy with a gun can walk into a store and buy as much ammunition as you like.”

Of course the “bad guy with a gun” is unimpressed with those sentiments, or the law they seek to create. He or she will go about their bad deeds all they want. The laws we create will only serve as a means to punish them after the fact, when caught, when prosecuted with sufficient evidence and proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Then we get to the plea deal problem …. the sentencing problem … the early release problem … the recidivism problem …

None of which ever had anything to do with the common citizen buying ammunition.

    Dumbass!!!

        • I think he’s bipolar or something. Immature to say the least, in regards to political awareness. I saw a lot off asshats like him in the “boog” communities. Confused idiots and neckbeards is all. They take all the wrong things seriously and fail to understand the importance of the bigger pictures. Their massive opinions over minimal problems become no budge fuel for a compromised stance. It’s like they are rebelling against themselves. Some shit adolescents do, for sure.

      • To enuf the Fudd, 20 rounds per year is all you need. It’s all he needs and therefore what everyone else needs.

    • The first thing all tyrants do is disarm the populace. Where do you think tyranny will come from in this country? The Right or the Left? Well, we have seen how tyrannical the Democrats have been using this pandemic as an excuse. Just what do you think they will do when it comes to Climate Control? It doesn’t take an Einstein to figure that one out.

      • The elitists with their hands in the plandemic, who are vocally “democrat”, have seen over 3,000% increases in the businesses. Yes, you read that right. three comma zero zero zero. Amazon’s pantry for example. 3,600% increase in gross revenue.

Shit was 100% planned. I suspected long ago when Amazon merged with whole foods and the online ordering of groceries that a market was ripe for the raping. Now we see who seized it. Same as stock brokers on 9/11, jewish bankers during WWII, and politicians using pretty much every race related shooting since 2014 (slowly amping up to election years with calm in the following 2 years after elections of course), never let a good tragedy go to waste.

  15. I’m sitting here watching a story on the 700Club about Christian’s being murdered & persecuted in Nigeria. With tacit & worse complicity from their Muslim president & military. And Christian’s are mostly unarmed. I would suggest Floriduh republitard’s give a big middle finger to dims trying to disarm them…and buy more guns n ammo!!!

  16. Very reasonable law which will not hinder my ability to own guns, ammo or use said items to hunt with or use for personal protection.

      • What delusions are you referring to peanut butter fan? If you have nothing of value to add to the thread other than discrediting others opinions then you should look inside.

        • Laws interfere with and infringe upon only the law abiding citizens. The criminal element is not in any way impeded by laws. This is the very definition of them being “criminals” or “bad guys”.

The value of these laws is only in providing law under which the criminal may be prosecuted once captured. This is always after the fact, never before. Thus all that is needed is law to define the possession or use of guns and ammo by criminals to be a crime with defined punishments upon conviction.

Remember, no law will prevent a criminal from obtaining anything they want. There is always a black market, and underground criminal enterprise that is creative and industrious in supplying the criminal what he or she wants, regardless of law.

        • basically Manny, he is saying shut it. your ambiguous attitude toward this law is just like anyone who accepts any law that does not affect them at this time. you are a lemming at best, a following little sheep. same person who says yes please search my car I have nothing to hide, or yes come into my house without a warrant I have nothing to hide. effing idiot.

    • It’s an extra $20 tax on every ammo purchase to pay for that background check. This will hurt the poor, just like the other programs that you probably advocate for. Why is income inequality and segregation always the worst in democrat counties? Are you also for a background check and strict ID laws in order to cast a vote?

      • There are never going to be enough laws to satisfy people like ENUF. Laws against murder and robbery aren’t enough for ENUF. People like him just have no common sense and proudly display that deficiency.

    • Fudd much?
1 March 2022 Semi Automatic Firearm ban.
Our records indicate you purchased a Remington 7400 5 September 1994. You did not relinquish procession of it to the proper authorities.
You are now in violation and prohibited from purchasing ammunition.

      • If you allowed your firearms to be registered, then it’s your own fault. There is absolutely no use for registration, it accomplishes absolutely nothing, except to make confiscation possible.

        • Don’t forget matching 4473 forms with purchasing. F-troop probably have a database ready to go. It just has to be announced.

    • Maybe not the initial buy but wait until new laws aside using that law and the data for furtherance.
You see, Manny, you don’t give into useless laws that not only don’t accomplish the goal but open doors to more laws. Or maybe you’re ok with the gov keeping a list of calibers and quantity.

      • It’s an ideological thing. Partisans reflexively support unnecessary laws that are pushed by their preferred party. For example, there is no income tax in my state, and we have the lowest per capita state debt. State income tax is literally illegal here. So what did democrats do? They introduced a measure that would allow state income tax in the future “just in case we need it someday.” Who do you think voted for that? Partisan, party line democrats.

        • A state income tax was number one on Gillums agenda in the 2018 FL Gov race… He needed the extra money to pay for all the FREE shit he promised everybody…

  17. “The more oppressive a government, the bigger the underground”, want to know the end result of laws like this read John Giduck’s non fiction book “Terror at Beslan”. Where Russian Special Forces who were interviewed said Russian citizens armed with RPG’s, AK-47’s, AKM’s, etc. had responded before they could. Russia has gun control liberals dream of. The more oppressive a government the bigger the underground.

    • The underground shrinks as modern technology and surveillance increase. The Russians have a little more experience in “How things work” it’s why most of them remove the batteries in their cell phones when not in use. Americans on the other hand believe that words written on paper will protect them.
Just a tidbit, your VPN is not secure at all. In fact it works the opposite.

      • It’s not secure, but your isp doesn’t catch those torrents. Good enough for what it is. Nothing is “secure”. It’s just a quick deterrent.

  18. It seems to me the problem isn’t so much a bad guy walking in and buying as much ammo as he wants, but rather a bad guy walking in. If he’s so bad, then why is he on the streets?

Ammunition is not difficult to get, after all. It can readily be stolen from owners or shoplifted from merchants, among myriad other avenues. This is just a smokescreen for hassling legitimate owners.

Yes, they are coming for your guns. Maybe not kicking down doors and knocking over tables-style, but by slow and steady accumulation of inconveniences and costs to weigh down and work against exercising one’s civil, human, constitutional, and human right to keep and bear arms.

    • The people who pass these laws are actually not very bright. They don’t seem to know anything about reloading enthusiasts who can go around their ammunition back-round checks. When they have that aha moment then they will want to restrict the reloading of ammunition. It will always be something because you can never satisfy people like them. There will always be idiots in this world. Our problem is we have to stop putting idiots in places of power and influence. The problem isn’t the idiots. The problem is us because we can stop all of these idiots if we unite and vote intelligently.

    • Good point, I don’t even store my ammo in my safe, just walk in and take it. Well, it might be a *little* tougher than that …

  19. This will be least of our worries when Bidens Communist Regime takes charge. Its what Biden has not said about his plans for a KGB style BATFE that should be of concern. Biden isnt going to stop at arms registration and NFA taxation. Expect heavy taxation on Ammunition and a national Ammunition Check system. And if there isnt enough weapons and magazines registered and turned in expect Bidens Spetznaz to to come looking for them.

Will Bidens Troops use deadly force, or be like Captain Kangaroo ? It matters little. The end result is they want you disarmed or dead. Preferably dead. So the choices are surrender and die. Or die resisting.

  20. If you think they won’t store the data from ammo background checks for investigative purposes I’ve got some Florida swamp to sell you. Like all these schemes it’s bout gathering data or why would they do it. And once again the retail point becomes the enforcer so they don’t have to.

    • Of course it will be stored. When the NICS system is used, the submission must include the type of item for which the background check is being run.

If you’re buying a pistol, your name, address, state of birth, DOB, SSN (still optional for now) and DL go into the system. A box is checked that says “Sale of hand gun.”

Likewise for a long gun and various NFA items. If “Sale of Ammunition” was checked, the records will be there with the FBI forever.

It won’t know what ammo or how much, just like the number of hand guns or what specific guns. But the information will be in the government database.

  21. As of today I doubt the NICS system will do the ammunition background checks. Not a federal law.

Seems like NY or someplace has a law like this and it is void because of federal refusal to do the checks.

  22. This prick just called me a bad guy.

“… a bad guy with a gun can walk into a store and buy as much ammunition as you like.”

Not as much ammunition as HE likes but as I like.

I don’t think that is just bad grammar.

This doesn’t have a prayer though.

  23. My question would be, wouldn’t Rick DeSantis, (probably spelled wrong) the Governor, veto any Bill like that ?
As far as I can see he’s a pretty good Republican.
Just asking for a friend…(who buys a lot of equalizers)

  24. Give an inch… you know the rest.

The intentions are irrelevant. Any form of gun control is passed with the intent to hinder people they deem deplorable and untrustworthy under the context of political/racial bias or some other prejudice, not with the intent of improving public safety.

Ammunition cannot be individually traced once outside of its packaging. Straw purchases of ammo occur with or without laws in place because of this.

First of all MOST if not all states have these same or similar laws, but if you are asserting that this Democrat bill “Jaime’s Law ” has a snowballs chance in Hell of surviving in the FL house which now has a two to one (80/40) Republican majority after adding seats lost in 2018, you have been watching to many Creepy Uncle Joe press conferences… It’s a joke, it will most likely never even see a vote let alone become a law, We ain’t Commiefornia YET…

    • The day may come when all guns will be confiscated, but they can’t confiscate the guns until they know where they all are. Background checks on ammunition purchases will give them a list of where these guns are, what caliber they are, and what type of gun they are, handgun or rifle. It will be a slow process but isn’t our loss of freedoms been a slow process? We have been on the slippery slope to tyranny for longer than I can remember. The Liberal Democrats have been adding more and more grease to the slope while the Republicans have been doing nothing about it but talk about it and campaign on it.

  26. FUN FACT: IF YOU MOVE YOU WILL BE DENIED AMMO AND WILL BE PUT INTO THE SAME CATEGORY AS A CRIMINAL. ASK ME HOW I KNOW. HAD TO UPDATE MY INFO SO THE GESTAPO KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE TO COME AND TAKE MY FIREARM, STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN CLEARED FOR AMMO. 2ND OPTION IS BUY A NEW GUN AT NEW ADDRESS

  27. If I were a Florida resident, or lived there, I would want to see the exact wording of this of this proposal as the bland assurances of political types are in no way sufficient.

  28. Many stores are just going to say it is not worth it and stop selling ammo.
This is pointless…you just get a “clean” person to do all the shopping.

  29. First and foremost Gun Control is rooted in racism and genocide and that makes Gun Control a racist and nazi based agenda. Gun Control, ammo control has no place whatsoever in America. It has proven itself to be a sick agenda so go eat your own poo Gun Control Zealots.

  30. “We’re trying to be as reasonable as possible while getting to the root of the issue — a bad guy with a gun can walk into a store and buy as much ammunition as you like.”

That’s definitely The Root of the issue, just look at Illinois for example. Here you can’t buy any ammo (or even touch a gun for that matter) unless you got clean background confirming FOID card. That’s why Chicago is so peaceful place!
