Robert Francis O’Rourke isn’t having a very good week. The culturally appropriating former Congressman from west Texas took a gamble and adopted the Swalwell Strategy, holing to resuscitate his flagging presidential campaign by advocating radical new limits on Americans’ gun rights.

But Beto apparently didn’t take into account the fact that the Swalwell Strategy didn’t really work out so well for Swalwell. And, just as his former colleague from California demonstrated, running a national campaign based on confiscating Americans’ guns isn’t really a winning electoral strategy, no matter how much positive ink it may generate from the sympathetic media.

Go figure. It seems that — despite what the cable news talking heads and Silicon Valley CEOs may preach — Americans have no real interest in turning in millions of their firearms to anyone from the .gov.

But that hasn’t stopped Beto, bless his heart. This morning, he exchanged tweets with the Tweeter in Chief, still claiming that he’s going to grab those scary rifles no matter what it takes.

In a trolling tweet, President Trump fired a shot at O’Rourke, pointed out what many in Beto’s own party have been telling any member of the media who will listen…that all this talk of confiscating civilians’ firearms really isn’t helping them ram through negotiate the current crop of incrementalist bills that would only restrict Americans’ gun rights a little bit. For now.

You know, bills like universal background checks and red flag laws.

But the intrepid white Hispanic Irishman let it be known that, despite the lack of any apparent measurable support from the electorate, he’s pressing on anyway.

Besides the fact that he’s currently about a 50:1 shot to become the Democrat nominee, there’s also the little matter of passing the laws he’s advocating.

While no sentient carbon-based life form is still operating under the illusion that Democrats don’t want to take anyone’s guns, actually voting for a “mandatory buyback,” AKA minimally compensated confiscation, is another matter entirely. Especially in an election year.

Then there’s the fact that 18 U.S. Code § 926 is still the law of the land. That’s the law that, since 1986, has explicitly prohibited the creation of a gun registry in this country. A law that will make it difficult to “license every gun,” let alone make sure that Beto and his buddies “buy back every single assault weapon.”

But don’t interrupt him with any of those details. He’s on a roll. Besides, as even some of Beto’s biggest fans are pointing out, the more he keeps talking, the better it is for those of us on the other side of the argument.

  1. Sorry, no. A man with a burglary arrest on his record is not ever gonna convince me to give up my firearms. I may need to defend myself from him at some point.

  2. Let’s not overlook the fact that Trump is lamenting the difficulty of trying to “make a deal” here. Not interested, dude. Stick to judges.

    • Lots of judges,awaiting RBG to be replaced. Oh the pissing moaning and whining that will occur then,some snowflakes may even have a meltdown.I even have plenty of popcorn and beer on hand for the entertainment.

      • Then you’re missing the whole game. They’ve already prepared for that. They’re trying to actively undermine the legitimacy of the entire court already. By destroying the credibility and validity of the court beforehand, they intend to minimize any impact that another Trump appointee will have.

        • Then perhaps we see the outcome differently. I don’t think they’re “talking BS”, I think they’re telling us exactly what they’re going to do. With the wall, for example, and allowing other nation’s citizens to overrun our country. With the court, talking the same talk that FDR did about packing the court. With confiscation. With abortion to the day of birth (and, in at least one case, after birth).

          I don’t think they really believe there will be a second civil war. I think they really, honestly believe that they’re “right”, and that the entire country agrees with them, and it’s just a few “deplorables” that can be shut up once they take away the deplorables’ AR-15’s. That is their plan for the USA.

          And it will undoubtedly lead to a second Civil War. And THAT is what will catch them by surprise.

        • I heard an interview with Klobuchar this morning. That was the line she was touting. That a majority of gun owners and hunters agree with them. Whether she really believes it, I don’t know. But that is the message they are selling.

        • Senator Klobuchar is correct; The majority of gun owners and hunters who agree with them, agree with them. In fact, a full 100% of those gun owners and hunters who agree with them also agree with them.

          See the logic in her statement? It is, patently, unassailable, and can be extended to any other argument.

          For example, every single person who agrees with the Left about partial-birth abortion agrees with them. That makes it 100%–of those who agree with them agreeing with them. Not a single person who agrees with them disagrees with them, confirming a veritable LANDSLIDE of agreement without exception.

          Climate Change? Same thing.

          Free health-care, education, and welfare for anyone who manages to cross our borders? Check.

          I can’t fault this sort of thinking. Can you?

  3. I don’t believe any of these talking heads makes their own decisions about what to say. Someone on the left has realized Beto is a loss and has decided to make final use of him to fire up the base and try to move the Overton Window on gun control.

      • “universal background checks” = “national gun registry”. We must bitterly oppose their interpretation of “universal background checks” so long as it includes registering the serial numbers to any transaction. Which is, on its face, illegal and ludicrous.

        One background check is all you have to run, and you can buy one, three, 10 firearms all under that one background check, right? So — why do they need the serial numbers recorded? Why do they need to specify “handgun” or “long gun” on the form? There’s only one possible reason… they intend to use it as a de facto national registry. And there’s only one reason, and one possible reason, for wanting a registry…

        • UBC is supposed to be for the buyer not the gun. Recording both constitutes build a confiscation registry.
          I’d their concern really is with the buyer then why the automatic interest in the hardware as well?
          That’s the impasse we are at. They want to know who has what so a future totalitarian president can try to collect it all. Never mind the logistical difficulty, it’s about disarming their perceived enemies.

      • Universal background checks (UBC) sounds innocuous enough, until you envision it in practice. As has been mentioned, it becomes a de facto gun registry, which the government does not need except for nefarious purposes. Aside from that, UBCs mean that only those who possess a federal firearms license can actually conduct a sales transaction, because only FFLs have access to the FBI’s NICS background check system. This means that UBC not only establishes a national gun registry, but it also bans private sales of firearms, as only those licensed by the government and the general public can conduct such a transaction.

        So what? Well, granting the government a legal monopoly over the transfer of all firearms means that the government can throttle that bottleneck until transfers of firearms are technically still legal, but as a practical matter are made impossible. How? Through the power of the FFL license, the government can erect infinite barriers to obtaining such a licence and thereby exterminate the firearms transactions that rely on that license. Think they won’t do it?

        They already do it in Mexico, where technically private ownership is legal, but as a practical matter, you’re never getting a firearm legally. The entire country has but one legal gun shop….and it’s owned by the government….and it’s located in the capital, Mexico City….and it’s on a military base. That by itself, aside from all the other legal barriers, would be enough to minimize the public’s lawful access to firearms. Oh, but that’s Mexico, not America. Well.

        Consider the right to carry a concealed firearm. That has already been ruled on by the Supreme Court, yet many states still refuse to grant anyone a license to carry. It’s called “May Issue” status, meaning the state may issue you a license if you’re eligible, but is not required to do so. As a result, a state like Hawaii has not issued even ONE concealed carry license in this century. Think about that.

        If the Democrats succeed in getting so-called universal background checks, it will be the death of private ownership in this county. New FFLs will be impossible to obtain; existing FFLs will become uneconomical to retain. The public’s firearms will deteriorate over time and won’t be replaced. Owners will die and families will not be able to inherit their firearms. All will have to be destroyed or turned over to the government. Over time–not very much time, at that–firearms will vanish from private ownership. That’s the ultimate goal. Some want to go about it at slow-to-boil speed through UBC; others get frustrated and want to race to tyranny through immediate “gun buybacks.” Either way or any other way, their goal is the same and it has nothing to do with public safety.

    • Dude, IF they get the ARs/AKs they won’t stop til they have everything except that little single shot .22 sitting in the back corner of the gun case that you take out a couple of times a year to clean, oil and remember before you put it away for another 6 months.. There is no middle ground, no “safe” caliber or style of gun, they are ALL used somewhere by someone as a weapon of war… These assholes have been on an unconstitutional regulatory roll ever since they took down the tobacco industry and there is no end in sight, give ’em that inch and they’ll take it to the moon and back..

          Here in CA back in the ’90s, when our version of the AWB was implemented (thanks for nothing, Dianne Feinstein), .22LR was exempt from the 10+ round capacity restriction. Sacramento told us we could keep them. Until we couldn’t. In 2000 the definition was expanded to include all calibers.

          Ask me how I know. It involves a little run-in with the CADOJ who came to my door shortly afterward to confiscate my gun. My gun was legally owned until the state moved the line to give themselves legal reason to take it via a small squad of agents. Yes, this really happened.

          So when anyone here bleats the “registration leads to confiscation” mantra, they’re telling the truth.

  5. So, Currently Beto O,Rourke does not hold a political office and as a private citizen can say anything he wants, but how is this not hate speech? He says that he wants to deprive a class of people, (gun owners) of their constitutional rights. On this same topic, NY Senator Gillibrant who is a current senator calls for gun confiscation from the senate floor. She took an oath to defend and uphold the constitution. Is there no penalty or violation for violating her oath? I would think there should be sanctions or a penalty/impeachment for intentional violations of oath of office. Are there any constitutional Law Attorneys that could explain or educate me on this subject?

    • The theory is that Miller says that the gov can ban “dangerous and unusual weapons” and that the AR-15 is one. They also argue that ALL military weapons/weapons of war are “dangerous and unusual (completely misreading Miller) and that therefore ALL firearms that may serve a military purpose may be banned. The logic fails, but that has never stopped them.

      As a side note, shotguns are used by the military. The SAS recently raided an ISIS hideout in Baghdad just before the terrorists were to head out on a suicide mission, followed up with an armed attack. The lead soldier breaching the door into a courtyard was armed with a Benelli M4 Super 90. Seeing three terrorists loading arms into a vehicle, he opened fire, killing all three. Two more came running out the door of a residence, and they were meat. Elapsed time: 7 seconds.       • Miller also says that the 2A protects the right of the people to own arms in use by the military. So sure, let’s give up AR-15s so we can have legit M4s, M16s, SBRs, and suppressors.

        • Miller (a default judgement with no briefs or arguments presented for the 2A side) says only militia weapons (suitable for military use) are protected.

          Heller (a watered down decision to keep Roberts and Kennedy on board) says firearms not dangerous and unusual may be kept for private non-militia purposes.

          If we combine the two, military weapons are protected for militia purposes, and non-military weapons like Dick Heller’s revolver and Joe Miller’s sawed off shotgun (I know, but Miller never showed up to give evidence that shotguns serve a militia function) are protected for self defense and sporting use.

        • As interpreted by Miller decision, could we also have 2A-prtected shotguns like the DoD M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System (MASS) manually-operated, magazjne-fed, 7.75″-barrel shotgun, because the military uses them?

    • Every time a politician opens its mouth to propose a law that amounts to anything other than “don’t hurt people and don’t take their stuff,” it is making a terroristic threat.

    • Under Article I, Section 5, clause 2, of the Constitution, a Member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her constitutional term by an “expulsion” from the Senate (if a Senator) or from the House of Representatives (if a Representative) upon a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the Members of that body present and voting. While there are no specific grounds for an expulsion expressed in the Constitution, expulsion actions in both the House and the Senate have generally concerned cases of perceived disloyalty to the United States, or the conviction of a criminal statutory offense which involved abuse of one’s official position.
      Apparently merely ignoring your SWORN OATH to protect and defend the CONSTITUTION is NOT considered being disloyal to the U.S. (since the majority of them do it). There is no process in the constitution that allows for state recall votes on Congessmen, Senators, POTUS or VPOTUS.. 39 states have recall statutes but the last time that was tried in Mich in 2007 it was overturned by state courts…. I’m NOT a lawyer or a Constitutional expert, but my reading and comprehension skills are a bit above average and this is how I have interptreted what I’ve read on this subject, anyone with a different take can set it right IF I am mistaken…

      • The problem with a vote of two thirds of the body is that well over one third should be expelled and they all know it….the ones that should be expelled won’t vote for expelling the others that should be because they would be next. A legislative version of See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil when they are looking at each other. They might get a bit testy and spout off a bit, but not on the floor because that would make the other members of that so very exclusive club mad!

      • That is the best part about this. While they whinge about all the things they want to do in fantasy land back in reality we got 150 federal judges and 18-280 is going to argument at the SC on 12-2-19.

        It’s gonna be a real kodak moment when the realization eventually smacks these dolts in the side of the head.

        • They’ve already realized it. Why do you think they’re going after Kavanaugh again? Why do you think they’re sending veiled threats to the court? Why do you think the major candidates have already endorsed “packing the court”?

          A victory in the court isn’t going to lead to a panacea for gun owners, it’s going to lead to a more urgent full court press like we’ve never seen before.

          The ONLY thing that can stop it, IMO, is a Reagenesque electoral ass-whooping. If the Progressives get stomped back down the sewer they crawled out of in a 49-state sweep, then maybe they’ll back off. But every little victory encourages them more and more, and it may very well get quite ugly before it gets better.

    April 19th, 1775 is a day of the greatest significance to the birth of this great nation. If they didn’t teach you about this date in your “American History” class I will gladly share the facts with you for “those who don’t know history (or I would add… willfully dare to ignore it) are doomed to repeat it’s mistakes…”

    On that specific day 700 British Red coats (what a coincidence! The Communist’s/Socialist’s favorite color!) under the command of Lieutenant Colonel FRANCIS Smith (wow! talk about coincidences!) marched on the Massachusetts town of Concord under ‘secret orders’ to seize colonial guns, shot and powder that were being stored there.

    When they arrived in the vicinity of the Town of Lexington (Massachusetts) they were met and confronted by 500 colonial militia members. To this day no one really knows who fired the first shot but it is generally agreed that it was “the shot heard around the world” A militia of farmers, store keepers and other ‘commoners’ faced against one of the mightiest and greatest Empires ever…the British Empire…and the end result is well known… the birth of the Greatest Nation ever known to man.

    To be clear, the Red coats forced the colonial militia to retreat at Lexington, after causing them several casualties, moving on to Concord where they found that the ‘colonials’ had moved everything out. Unfortunately for the Red coats it also gave the ‘minute men’ an opportunity to re-group and reinforce with additional numbers. Historians agree that the British troop’s march back to Boston was ‘not a pretty sight’ and that in fact they had to be rescued by British Brigadier General Hugh Percy or they might not have made it back at all.

    What is largely and sometimes conveniently ignored by many is WHAT CAUSED THAT FIRST SHOT TO BE FIRED? Well, the answer is in American History. The British troops had been ordered to seize guns, shot and gun powder belonging to the ‘colonials’.

    The Second Amendment is not (and never was) about hunting. I dare you or anyone else to find any mention of “hunting” in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution or the Bill of Rights; it was written to keep us precisely from the threat of an all powerful government attempting to ignore the Constitution and the Bill of Rights… the threat of dictatorship . Without it the Constitution, and the rest of the Bill of Rights are not worth the paper they are written on.

    Note that this Battle occurred literally four weeks after Patrick Henry’s famous speech to the Virginia Convention, House of Burgesses, on March 23 (this is the final section of that speech):

    “It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, “Peace! Peace!”—but there is no peace. The war is actually begun!     And his latest gun control stance means he has zero chance of becoming the VP nominee for warren should she win and want a moderate or somebody who can help with Texas.

    His gun control stance at also eliminated his chance to run for Texas senate in 2020 with any success. It’s likely destroyed any chance he will ever hold national office in Texas.

  13. Well, Trump said the assault on our second amendment rights was over, too. Politicians can say whatever they want, but the proof’s in the pudding. Regardless, when the laws are passed (and they will be, if it takes them a hundred years to do it) every gun owner in the country will have to decide whether they want to be a quisling or risk being killed by the local brute squad.

    On another note, I saw a wonderful article on DailyKos (vomit) that some vet was saying that the AR-15 is a weapon of war, and gave 9 points why. Well, yeah, it’s a weapon of war. So is a pump shotgun, bolt action rifle, breech loading rifle, muzzle loading rifle, revolver, and almost everything else under the sun. At the end of the day, they are all protected by the second amendment.

      Texas Southern University where this debate was held is an HBCU (historically black college/university) and it is really not that surprising that someone like Robert Francis who holds some level of support from the younger voters would be able to elicit a response like that from a liberal arts college student body. The audience was not that big and most likely hand picked from a group of self identifying Dem voters…

As someone who was abused and bullied for a significant part my life I know personally from experience what happens when you can’t defend yourself. There is a significant percentage of the population that does not have morals. The only thing that keeps these people from doing harm to others are consequences from breaking the law, or fear of retaliation.

Not only did he blatantly LIE about the emergency response during the incident in Odessa (which he HAD to know could be debunked wihin minutes) He doubles down on dumb ass gun control ideas daily even in the face of his own party while Dems tell him to shut up and Dem Senator Manchin has gone as far as to tell Bobby that he will NOT give up his guns.. In spite of pressure from Dems this clown has now gone so far as to suggest fines and threat of jail time to coerce people to follow HIS gun confiscation law.. Robert O’Rourke has decimated any remote possibility that he will EVER be elected to any public office in the future AND he seems hell bent on the total destruction of the Democrat party.
