After the murderous attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya, All the President’s Men insisted the gunmen were protestors gone wild. They weren’t. A State Department briefing last night—ahead of today’s noontime Congressional hearing The Security Failures of Benghazimakes that perfectly clear. Click here for a minute-by-minute account of the terrorist assault. Meanwhile, the high-profile kerfuffle over Operation Fast and Furious has faded. This even as new evidence emerges that Uncle Sam’s gun-running op was not a botched sting but part of a concerted effort to support the Sinaloa drug cartel . . .

businessinsider.com has extracted the info from emails revealed in the recent STRATFOR hack:

Many people have doubted the quality of Stratfor’s intelligence, but the information from MX1—a Mexican foreign service officer who doubled as a confidential source for Stratfor—seems to corroborate recent claims about U.S. involvement in the drug war in Mexico.

Most notably, the reports from MX1 line up with assertions by a Sinaloa cartel insider that cartel boss Joaquin Guzman is a U.S. informant, the Sinaloa cartel was “given carte blanche to continue to smuggle tons of illicit drugs into Chicago,” and Operation Fast and Furious was part of an agreement to finance and arm the Sinaloa cartel in exchange for information used to take down rival cartels.

Smoking gun or theory? In 2010, before drug thugs gunned down U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry with firearms enabled by the ATF, MX-1 sent an email to STRATFOR vice president of intelligence Fred Burton suggesting that “the US sent a signal that could be construed as follows”:

“To the [Juárez] and Sinaloa cartels: Thank you for providing our market with drugs over the years. We are now concerned about your perpetration of violence, and would like to see you stop that. In this regard, please know that Sinaloa is bigger and better than [the Juárez cartel]. Also note that [Ciudad Juárez] is very important to us, as is the whole border. In this light, please talk amongst yourselves and lets all get back to business. Again, we recognize that Sinaloa is bigger and better, so either [the Juárez cartel] gets in line or we will mess you up.”

In sum, I have a gut feeling that the US agencies tried to send a signal telling the cartels to negotiate themselves. They unilaterally declared a winner, and this is unprecedented, and deserves analysis.

More damningly . . .

“The email went on to say that “the major routes and methods for bulk shipping into the US” from Ciudad Juárez, right across the border from El Paso, Texas, “have already been negotiated with US authorities” and that large shipments of drugs from the Sinaloa cartel “are OK with the Americans.”

With so little time before the presidential election, with the Oversight Committee’s attention focused on the low-hanging fruit of the Benghazi fiasco and cover-up, it’s unlikely Congress will lift the veil of Executive Privilege drawn over Operation Fast and Furious—at least not before the national vote.

The truth about the Obama administration’s conspiracy to aid and abet an international criminal enterprise will have to wait. Or . . . not. Watch this space.

  1. Wow. Tragic. Horrible. Unacceptable. Criminal.

They killed our ambassador. That is one of the presidents hand picked men.

    I’m beyond enraged.

  2. Am I reading this correctly? Are you saying there is good evidence to allege that the U.S. Government – the Obama Administration – is supporting the Sinaloa Cartel’s importation of illicit drugs into this country’s major population centers:Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Atlanta? I am trying to tell myself I am not understanding this, but I am having a hard time denying I have understood correctly….

    • Not directly, but yes. They cannot be connected directly for obvious reasons, but silent consent is consent none the less.

      • The USA government has been playing both sides against the middle for a long time.

If your curious about who/what are the ‘sides’ and the ‘middle’..

The one side is the criminal organizations and their assorted profits derived from laudering money and whatnot. The illicit drug trade is one of the biggest and most lucrative commodity markets in the world today. It’s exclusive and extremely profitable. It is, very literally, bigger international market then textiles or steel.

The other side is the group of people that reap huge profits from ‘fighting’ the drug war. The companies that produce arms. The businesses that supply police with paramilitary gear. Training, etc etc. The prisons and the whole wealth of the industries and whatnot that goes into supporting that and the profits derived from putting prisoners to work. You have entire cities that the majority of their income comes in from having people in a nearby prison. This is another multi-multi-multi billion dollar industry. About 700-720 people per 10,000 are currently incarcinated. About 3.1% of the population is enrolled in some government punishment program.. in jail, in parole, or some other program for rehabilitation or whatever.

The ‘middle’ is the USA public. The people that buy the drugs and demand the drugs. The people that are the ones being the prisoners.. ones that have loved ones in jail. The ones that have to pay the taxes to support the war on drugs. The people that don’t want drugs in their communities, etc etc. These are the people that pay the price for all of it. They go to prisons, pay for the prisons, pay for the drugs and finance both sides of the drug war… directly and indirectly.

    • The CIA — and thus the US — has been a major drug trafficker since Air America helped the Kuomintang smuggle opium out of China in order to fund its war with Mao Zedong’s communists. It also facilitated the smuggling of a ton of cocaine into Miami by the Colombian cartel. Purportedly, the CIA wanted to track the cocaine (Fast and Furious, anyone?), but big surprise — all the dope ‘escaped” and was sold on the street. The DEA was horrified and very pissed that the CIA hadn’t informed anyone in the DEA about the plan, according to Robert Bonner who was the head of the DEA.

These are only two of dozens of examples of US complicity in drug smuggling, and a lot of that dope ends up in the US. In some of these cases, the CIA claimed that it was trying to track the flow of the drugs — but it never did. In some cases, like Iran-Contra or the Kuomintang cases, the claimed purpose was to fund our political allies above and beyond what Congress was willing to provide.

    • The sources he’s using is saying that the US Government, and not just the Obama administration, has been allowing the controlled flow of drugs in exchange for information non-Sinaloa cartels. Of course, I’m not surprised that he left out this part —

“The Sinaloa Cartel was allegedly permitted to traffic massive amounts of drugs across the U.S. border from 2004 to 2009 — during both Fast and Furious and Bush-era gunrunning operations — as long as the intel kept coming.”

    • “Childish and silly paranoia.”
      ——
Weren’t people saying the same about the Iran-Contra affair? The Cuban missile crisis? The Watergate break-ins? I could do this all day…

      • Sheeple can’t govern themselves therefore big government is necessary…
Government is here for your own good…
Don’t worry, you can trust government…
If you don’t trust government then you must have something you’re hiding…
If you are hiding something or anything about your life then the government has the right to investigate you…
They have the right to fine your naughty behavior, confiscate your goods, and correct and control your life because government owns you…
Owning you means Government loves you…

All brought to you with love by the nanny-police state and those who have sacrificed to make it all possible fighting for your best the past hundred years…

        • Ha! I am calling shenanigans on your Aharon! 🙂
Part of my issue is that as Robert pointed out they have shifted focus from F&F to Benghazi. I think this is partially true, but to be honest, Obama basically shut down the ability to get any more information by asserting executive privileged.
Benghazi was dropped in their laps, and Obama will have a much more difficult time covering it up. Both of course are criminal in my mind, and it looks like the administration has acted poorly. Yes ok an understatement I am sure, but the point being Issa will drive this to the front news and keep it there, to get to the bottom of this. Both cases deserve real answers, but F&F might take years until we can truly understand it. If Romney wins in November I would like to think all documents will be released, and it could blow up into something huge.

      • moonshine –

Didn’t anyone ever tell you to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain? I’ve got some physical proximity to the Border War, living in Houston, and some personal ties as I have friends with families south of the border. It is a massive tragedy fueled by the simple fact that for decades a large percentage of US citizens like to get a buzz on from imported substances. And the folks supplying that buzz are willing to kill each other – and everyone else downrange – to preserve market share. As is often the case in complicated issues, there are no solutions that will fit on a bumper sticker. I’ve seen some diasters in my life – Viet Nam, Iraq, etc. – but nothing like what has transpired since Nixon and Agnew caused a huge traffic jam in the late 60s and the drugs just kept on coming. The staus quo is that guns go south and drugs come north and people just keep on getting killed. How that ties into Libya I’m not really sure, but neither are a problem that have a quick and easy fix that can be fixed with a slogan or a jingoistic blog post.

  3. Blaming the deadly embassy attack on an anti-Muslim film is exactly what I would expect from an administration that will never let a crisis go to waste. For geopolitical reasons, the administration wanted the film and its producer to go away, and — poof — there they go.

It makes me wonder what the admin will do if it wants me — or you — to go away.

    • Ralph,

If we end up in a FEMA Re-education camp I hope we get assigned as cell mates so we can talk politics and make some good jokes. Do you like chess or checkers?

      • I’m a chess man. But I wouldn’t worry about FEMA. Those dummies couldn’t organize a day camp, much less a prison camp.

        • Yep, I got activated into FEMA during the flooding in West Virginia during the early 80’s. FEMA doesn’t have a seperate source of manpower they keep on hand. Except for admin types and managers they get their manpower from already existing federal and local agencies for the duration of the emergencies.

The same people that staff schools, parks, street departments and all the other city, state and federal jobs become FEMA during the crunch.

Just to give you some perspective I was pulled from my regular federal job, as a janitor for GSA, and assigned to drive a 5 ton truck. I hauled emergencie supplies in to the affected areas and people without transportation out.

  4. Sinaloa’s rival, the Zetas Cartel Boss (Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano) was killed by Mexican Marines yesterday.
    …just say’n

      • Bring the troops home, seal the borders, and deport all illegal aliens that support the ideology of ReConquista and LaRaza, just sayin’.

        • I’ll see your common sense and raise you a workable foreign policy:

Stop fvcking with people, at least until we un-fvck ourselves.

        • OK, Moonshine you win.

Ten years from now the dead Boss Lazcano will be seen singing with Elvis along highways near the border.

        • the dead Boss Lazcano will be seen singing with Elvis along highways near the border

I can almost hear the mariachi static on the radio now.

  5. Great job of Issa et al in disclosing far more than they uncovered. Way to put even more lives at risk. Not every asshat works in the White House.

  6. Should U.S. Government Pay Americans’ Drug Rehab Costs—If the Government Is Helping–Cartel(s) Import Illegal Drugs?

If The latest revelations are true, mentioned in the October 5, 2012 New American article “Stratfor Sources: U.S. Troops in Mexico as Feds Aid Cartels” that U.S. Government supports certain drug cartels as “first reported by Narco News”, after WikiLeaks released hacked e-mails from Stratfor, it would appear to confirm accusations made last year by a top Sinaloa operative Jesus Vicente Zambada-Niebla, that U.S. government offered his criminal syndicate virtual immunity to import multi-ton quantities of drugs across the border.

If U.S. government is helping the Sinaloa Cartel criminal racketeering enterprise or other Cartel import tons of drugs into the United States—Americans injured by those illegal drugs should not hesitate to file Civil Racketeering Lawsuits against the U.S. Government and the law enforcement agencies that participated in helping Cartels import illegal-drugs.

U.S. criminal courts order defendants as a condition of probation, to attend and pay for expensive private and non-profit drug rehab programs creating a $12-Billion dollar industry. If e.g. the Sinaloa Drug Cartel is the predominant importer of drugs into the United States because of U.S. Government support, shouldn’t the U.S. Government pay the drug rehabilitation costs of American drug users? It would appear Californians injured by a Cartel’s illegal-drugs that U.S. Government helped import into the United States, could sue U.S. Government and any law enforcement agency that assisted the Cartel import illegal-drugs under The California Drug Dealer Liability Act Effective January 1997. In brief the “Act” provides a civil remedy for damages to persons in a community injured as a result of the use of an illegal controlled substance. These persons include parents, employers, insurers, governmental entities, and others who pay for drug treatment or employee assistance programs, as well as infants injured as a result of exposure to controlled substances in utero (” drug babies”). This “Act” enables them to recover damages from those persons in the community who have joined the marketing of illegal controlled substances. A further purpose of this Act is to shift, to the extent possible, the cost of the damage caused by the existence of the market for illegal controlled substances in a community to those who illegally profit from that market.

Consequently if U.S. Government supports the Sinaloa Cartel or other Cartel that import illegal-drugs into California, victims of illegal-drug use should be able to sue the U.S. Government along with all other participants.

Every year innocent landlords of residential rental property and motels defend their property against Government Civil Asset Forfeiture because unbeknownst to an owner, a tenant or guest at their property is alleged by government to have sold or distributed illegal drugs. It is a conflict of interest for U.S. Government to forfeit real estate from innocent landlords if Government participates is supporting illegal-drug Cartel criminal enterprise to import illegal drugs into America—foreseeable to taint innocent landlords’ property.

Many U.S. Cities have blocks of blighted buildings caused by illegal drug activity that collapsed real estate values and collected property taxes communities depend on to support their infra structure. If U.S. Government is helping the Sinaloa Drug Cartel or other cartel flood America with illegal drugs, cities and counties economically damaged by U.S. Government’s illegal-drug activities should file Civil RICO Suits to recover damages from the U.S. Government and law enforcement agencies that helped a Drug Cartel import illegal drugs into the U.S. See California Drug Dealer Liability Act Effective January 1997, other states passed similar bills.

Illegal-drug distribution in America increasingly corrupts police. If U.S. Government actually offered or actually helped the Sinaloa Drug Cartel or other Cartel import illegal-drugs into the U.S as alleged in numerous reports, what kind of message is U.S. Government sending law enforcement. Almost every week the news reports police arrested for selling illegal drugs, taking bribes, falsifying evidence to arrest U.S. Citizens. Police corruption can only get worse if U.S. Government supports drug-Cartels import illegal-drugs into the United States.

  7. Pay no attention to all this, it makes the president look bad. You need to be concerned with losing whatever government benefit you have in a Romney administration.
