Can’t you just hear the conversation? The boys at Arsenal must have been sitting around the conference table for days, wracking their brains, trying to come up with something new to add to their lineup. Totally out of ideas, the only thing the pasty-faced idiot from marketing could manage to contribute was yet another 1911. Which was just about all the dude from engineering could take, “Come on, Poindexter. Another 1911? Seriously? Is that really the best you can do? Who the hell doesn’t make a 1911 these days? Wait! I have an idea. Check it. Let’s take two guns . . . and stick ’em together! No really, I think the boys down in the shop can pull it off. Gimme a few months to work this thing out. The world’s first auto-loading .45 double gun. And look at the calendar! We’ll call it the 2011. Get it? OK, so it’s a couple of months late. Whatever. You won’t regret it. I promise.” . . .

From the Aresenal YouTube vid’s notes:

The AF2011-A1 obviously features a number of very special parts, such as the single slide, the single frame, the single spur double hammer, the single grip safety, the single body double mainspring housing and the single double cavity magazine floor plate, the long and double magazine latch, the special barrel bushings and the hold open lever and side lever safety with long shafts: but the most interesting feature of the new pistol which we strived to keep during the development of the project, is the interchangeability of most internal parts, which come as standard 1911 replacement parts. These include the firing pins, the firing pins plates, the sears groups, the triple springs, the inner parts of the mainspring housings, the recoil springs and recoil springs rods, the magazine bodies and inner parts, the sights (including after market adjustable sights) the grips and grips screws and bushings.

We smell a winner. Ryan Finn’s offered up his first born if he can be the one to review this Siamese double wonder for TTAG. Do I hear any other bids?

  1. It will cost 2 times what a quality 45. import goes for, with a heafty mark-up to get it here, another mark-up to the distributors, another mark-up for the whole-salers, another mark-up and it get’s to retail level.

So, say…..umm $2400.00 and you too can have this insane double 45. because one 45. can only kill you once, but two at the same time will kill you once….and make a big mess!

Don’t even think about the extra weight or the fact that you will have to carry it around in your hand all day long because NOBODY will mass produce a holster to fit it in so add another $1000.00 or so to the price so you can have a horse-harness custom made to hold the 15lbs of gun and another couple of pounds for spare mags.

    LOL

    I want one!

  2. Oh… kay then. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t actually seen it.

I didn’t think it was possible to get bored enough to dream up something like that.

    • The video looks like it has two triggers but if it has a linked sear, then yes, it would be.

I’ll mark this under “novelty range toys”, “odd conversation peices”, and “surefire ways to make an intruder crap himself”. There would be no way I’d ever consider that as a carry piece.

  3. Cost – Outrageous
    Utility – Non existent
WTF is that factor – 1 zillion

I would love to take one of those out at the local range.

  4. Ryan Finn’s offered up his first born if he can be the one to review this Siamese double wonder for TTAG.

RF, you got him hooked, so hold out for Mrs. Finn.

  5. I can see this trend being like that of Gillette an the competition to see who can put the largest number of blades on a safety razor. I’m personally waiting for the 5 barreled gun. You could even use most of the clips from the razor ads with the screaming jets and hot ladies. Just fade to the gun instead of the razor and your done.

  6. Ah, the perfect gift for that middle eastern dictator or South American drug kingpin who already has a gold-plated AK47.

  7. “Ryan Finn’s offered up his first born if he can be the one to review this Siamese double wonder for TTAG. Do I hear any other bids?”

I’ll offer both of Ryan Finn’s kids to you….

  8. That’s a hell of a stunt. And it succeeded: I immediately wanted to know more about their standard pistols. And while they don’t make another 1911, the Strike One actually looks pretty cool. It’s not often someone comes up with a completely new locking mechanism.

    • I literally just cringed when I read that… Stripping a 1911 is below rubbing salt in my eyes on my favorite things to do list.

    • This.

Guns like this may force congress to redefine “machinegun” to mean a firearm that cycles its action and continues firing until the trigger is released, instead of the current definition which reads: “The term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.”

By this definition, I can’t see how the BATFE(ARBF) wouldn’t rule this to be a machinegun in the current political climate.

      • OK, except…think about the timing issues. The triggers would have to be cross-linked because both chambers HAVE to go off at the same time. Why? Because there’s only one slide, and it’s going to eject both rounds.

In fact, if the timing gets slightly “off” between the two barrels, and I mean micro-fraction-of-a-second off, whichever one is last is going to fire out of battery, OR it’s going to spit out a live round and with only one round’s recoil, might not fully rack itself.

        Sigh.

Look, in the civil war they came up with a giant double-barreled cannon meant to shoot chain-shot with the two balls linked. It didn’t work – in spectacular fashion. The first one would go off and then spit it’s ball and chain whipping back around at whoever was dumb enough to set this turkey off, cutting them clean in half. Whoops. They ended up using it (briefly) as the world’s biggest double-barrel shotgun, with grapeshot.

Similar issues here, on a smaller scale thank the deity of your choice…

  9. When he drew back the barrel I thought for a second he was going to blow the smoke. And while watching I wound up remembering Moe’s “how to turn a regular gun into five guns.”

    • Oh! Moe’s 5 guns in one, classic Simpsons!

This thing is kind of stupid…but I sort of want one, just so I could pretend to be “that guy” at the range.

  10. So what happens if one of the magazines (they’re fused so do they count as one or two) fails to feed or has some sort of extractor problem? Seems like twice the chance of a mechanical failure and significantly more time/effort to resolve it.

  11. A good coffee table conversation piece if you like using your money for such buys. Who is going to want to lug this beast around? What is the weight fully loaded?

“The double barrel 1911 may have two barrels and two triggers, but it only has one slide, one frame, one grip safety, a single body double mainspring housing and a single double cavity magazine floor plate. Despite all the unique features on the new design, many of the internal parts are easily replaceable with standard 1911 replacement parts, including the firing pins, sears groups, recoil spring and magazine bodies.”

  12. I m guessing that IWB carrying is out of the question, then again some company is going to come up with a holster.
Can you imagine been the guy tasked with developing a holster for this thing.

  13. Good Lord! I wouldn’t be caught dead with one of the things!

It’s unwieldy and hard to conceal. What is it supposed to be good for? Wait! I know! It’s a Double Wide! So what?

    Sheesh,
    Charlie

  14. Never been done before!….. And I think with good reason. This has to be pretty heavy to carry around, and the recoil has to be fairly stiff as well. But I’m also thinking that this might finally be the gun made for my bear sized paws. One legit question I’d like to ask the guys that make this is can the ammo be different on the left vs. right? Like JHP on one side and shot shells on the other?

  15. IF they had made this dual .45 cal pistol into a carbine version THEN it might create for itself a small and loyal following. I could see Keltec manufacturing such a carbine.

  16. Wait until the anti-gun leftie diaper filling pansies see this. Does’t matter it costs as much as a decent used car does they still, are gonna wanna ban this puppy!
