Is it just us, or does it seem that there’s a concerted effort under way to brand the the NRA as a terrorist organization in the collective mind of the public? Sure, a quick Google search turns up hundreds of them, but particularly since the President couldn’t manage to get a single gun control measure through a Democrat-controlled Senate, the campaign seem to have intensified. And it’s no longer coming just from the danker depths of the intertubes, either. You expect to see that kind of effluence spewing from thinkprogress.org and democraticunderground.com. But the Veep’s now insinuating that the NRA is one-a them anti-government groups, gumming up the works. Now, we have the spectacle of the editor of a daily fishwrap newspaper calling for suspension of the constitution where the NRA is concerned . . .

David Perry, editor of the Colorado Aurora Sentinel says he’s had an epiphany:

I have seen the light. After all these years, I now agree that it’s fruitless to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are so obviously corrupt, so clearly malevolent, so bent on hurting innocent people for their own sick gain.

No more due process in the clear-cut case of insidious terrorism. When the facts are so clearly before all Americans, for the whole world to see, why bother with this country’s odious and cumbersome system of justice? Send the guilty monsters directly to Guantanamo Bay for all eternity and let them rot in their own mental squalor.

No, no, no. Not the wannabe sick kid who blew up the Boston marathon or the freak that’s mailing ricin-laced letters to the president. I’m talking about the real terrorist threat here in America: the National Rifle Association.

So the James Holmeses, the Adam Lanzas and the Flying Tsarnaev Brothers were only “wannabe sick kids.” The really dangerous people – the ones who need to have their Constitutional rights suspended and exiled to a gulag- are the wackos at the NRA.

Perry doesn’t really make clear if he’d like to send just the NRA brass to Guantanamo or all 5 million of its members. He does point out, however, that the rest of the country has NRA members outnumbered by about 62:1.

In his world, he’s obviously happy to have democracy boil down to two wolves and a lamb voting on what’s for dinner. Fortunately, most of us still still enjoy the liberty the Founders had the wisdom to enumerate, ensuring that the fuzzy little armed lamb has the ability to tell the (sixty)two wolves to FOAD.

    • Isn’t it a little odd that the big, scary dude who represents the NRA in the cartoon is holding a club? You’d think… you know… the artist would have gone with a different type of weapon.

  1. The author contributed this op-ed to a once-a-week newspaper with a print circulation of 7500 subscribers. The NYT this ain’t.

    • Don’t fully discount it’s significance just because it’s microscopic readership…just as RF is referencing it, since it’s in print (and not a loon on a street corner) the anti-rights crowd can and will bring it up too. A talking head can do an entire panel discussion, on the question brought up by the paper and then hold their hands up and say “I’m not arguing that! People are saying it, I’m just reporting on it!”

  2. Damn. That’s a bit harsh even for an anti! Weren’t they against Guantanamo Bay?

Still, I think you might be punching at shadows. The left has always hated the NRA, but the more they scream and shout the more people join it.

They only demonize you when you’re a threat to them.

    • I have come to the sad realization that talking 2A to many antis is like talking evolution of species or climate change to a fundagelical.

It’s a matter of faith; they ‘KNOW,’ and neither facts nor evidence will have any discernible effect.

Not all antis, but a great many; it leaves me saddened. :[

      • Russ,

I would be happy to discuss evolution of species with you offline. I assure you my position does not rely on faith.

Speaking to your comment in general, you are correct that the facts do not matter to the gun grabbers. Taking away people’s guns is their religion and they will constantly make up new mantras as fast as you can dispel the old ones.

      • Russ,

It is totally off topic to guns, but I could make scientific arguments both against evolution and against man-caused climate change .

Just because some religious fundamentalists happen to oppose those common theories and can’t argue against them doesn’t mean it can’t be argued or that the opposing side has no merit. It just means that person has a bad argument.

The point about the antis and gun grabbing be a religion, however, is very well seen and I 100% agree.

        • Not against evolution as ‘change through time’ or ‘natural selection’ (universally accepted processes)…but as to our being created by Gods hand. I think he had a part to play. Exactly how? God knows.

    • “They only demonize you when you’re a threat to them”

Ironic how that fits with the quote of Obama in the cartoon above:

We will never bow to those who want to control us through Fear and Intimidation.

Funny the president saying that when he and his peers are doing just that……..just saying.

  3. His eensie-teensy audience is maybe 7,500 people. But I get your point, and see it, too.

The push is coming to shove. It appears the Ruling Class is prepared to break something they cannot fix. It works for them.

  4. If you cannot defeat your enemy in the crucible of truth, there’s nothing left but a cauldron of hate.

    • That’s GREAT, Ralph! It’s POETRY, even!!

We’d just as well realize we’re being made the Bad Guys. No, more than the Bad Guys: SATAN INCARNATE.

Obama just blamed Americans for Drug Gang violence in Mexico. You know, the guy, POTUS, who, along with his bosom pal the AG, shipped fully automatic weapons to drug gangs – in exchange for drugs.

Black is white and white is black; the answer is through the looking glass; we ain’t in Kansas anymore. We cannot put ANYTHING past them from here on. Hunker down. We’re about to get the business end of out-of-control government might thrown our way, fuse lit.

  5. Part of the strategy clearly is to paint the NRA as a tool of the manufacturers, rather than the 5,000,000 people like you and me.

Interesting that they have had some stuff circulating about the number of “No” votes who received money from the NRA lobbyists. It goes without saying that the $12,000,000 from Bloomberg isn’t reported.

The democratic process is such a nuisance when you know what is best for the little people.

  6. Terrorist organization is just one epithet. Today on PMSNBC, no less than two talking heads called us a “fringe cult”.

  7. Imagine a commercial

male shop owner points at his field and steam saying I’m the NRA then
    – him with shotgun in woods with son

policeman shows his american rifleman saying  I’m the NRA then
     – him with AR at range with daughter

Woman executive points to car sticker saying I’m the NRA then
     -her at range with pistol

    Etc. then

Shopkeeper – this boxcutter won’t cut me on its own

Policeman – this knight stick doesn’t hit people on its own

Woman – my car won’t get a DUI on its own

Wayne. NRA. Common people. Common sense.

    • That was a really, really, really good editorial.

File it under “Here’s why you don’t understand us.”

    • Thank you so much for sharing this. It really touched the very fiber of what is happening to Our country. Where do I sign at? I have given all my extra cash to the cause, and yes it was to the NRA, because I believe that they believe in the cause, and the 2A would have been gone along time ago if not for their efforts. Wrote my congress people, most have returned form letters saying they too support the constitution. Mr. Udall even went as far as saying there needs to be a “common sense” approach to this discussion, but just saw where he was playing golf with the Prez this afternoon, so I can figure his tilt on that scale already. So I say put this at the top of the petition I’ll sign, we all should. And make our voices heard. Right Randy?

  8. In all honesty, I wouldn’t read too much into it. Yes they’re demonizing gun owners and the NRA. Respond appropriately. But this isn’t Dr Evil’s master plan, it’s just the protest/community organizer mentality at work. There’s always an evil enemy, whether it’s the bank that won’t give Uncle Henry another loan, or one of the only true grassroots organizations in politics. It’s how they roll.

    • Don’t fool yourself. If you accept some group is “horrible and evil”, then in the Leftist our-noble-ends-justify-any-demonic-means mentality you can do anything you want to them.

  9. It is a shame all these freaking California control freaks found my state and are now hell bent on sending it down the crapper. I love Colorado, and I will not move I just won’t obey idiots like Mr. Perry or the laws and politicians people like him support.

So a big OL FU to Mr. Perry, I’ll be dead before idiots like you determine if I am slave labor material.

  10. I emailed this yahoo just now and said:

I find your recent editorial [http://www.aurorasentinel.com/opinion/perry-we-can-only-save-ourselves-from-kidnappers-at-the-nra/] offensive. What offended me most was when you said:

“No more due process in the clear-cut case of insidious terrorism. When the facts are so clearly before all Americans, for the whole world to see, why bother with this country’s odious and cumbersome system of justice? Send the guilty monsters directly to Guantanamo Bay for all eternity and let them rot in their own mental squalor.”

Now if I said that about you and your newspaper, I’m sure I would hear from your lawyers and the authorities almost immediately. Yet you think nothing of slandering and threatening millions of your fellow citizens in your newspaper.

    You should be ashamed.

Y’all need to do the same.

  11. “I have seen the light. After all these years, I now agree that it’s fruitless to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are so obviously corrupt, so clearly malevolent, so bent on hurting innocent people for their own sick gain.”

I actually agree with him on this…which is why I’m totally in favor of sending all leftists to the gulag and have absolutely no consideration left for sub-human scum like the writer of this editorial. Those like him are, to me, lower than dirt, their only purpose on this planet to lift my spirits the day I read their obituaries.

Good things that come from this are the antis reveal the monsters they truly are. This one full-on admitted his utter loathing for the American justice system and due process, hailed unchecked governmental abuse, and made terrorist threats. And yet the NRA are the terrorists.

And, in the end, one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. All of this is a concerted effort to demonize and marginalize gun owners to pave the way for a genocide, just like every other instance in history.

    • “All of this is a concerted effort to demonize and marginalize gun owners to pave the way for a genocide, just like every other instance in history.”

This is what scares me. For I fear it’s truth. And, no, I ain’t afraid of a bunch of simpering lefties. I’m afraid of what our country becomes if the gloves TRULY come off.

  12. Passing this on, written by a fellow Sailor… Hooya!!! People of the 2A…

Drones in the sky o’re the land of the free,
“The Messiah” Obama spying on you and me.
Tapping our phones and e-mail too,
He is afraid of what we can do.

He wants our guns and ammo you see,
Cause his tyranny, is not to be.
We are free people in this land,
But not under the Kings heavy hand.

He is working hard almost everyday,
To try and take our rights away.
GOD given rights he can try and take,
Afraid that will be one tremendous mistake!

Millions have served this great land,
Many have died from an enemies hand.
I cherish this land and freedom too,
I was proud to serve America and of course you.

Black verses white and tween men and women too,
He has started wars to divide me and you.
Take from the makers everything he can,
To GIVE to the takers in this great land.

Between Fast & Furious and Ben-ghazi,
The King is a liar as we all can see.
Lie to America every chance he gets,
There is no lie that he regrets.

We must hold firm to survive this regime,
And send’em packin’ in twenty fourteen.
We will survive there is no doubt,
This is the land of the free that I shout!!

  13. The NRA is in the process of broadening its mission to going beyond the RKBA 2A and to speaking out about the cultural war, liberty, and tyranny. It’s possible the NRA is being increasingly perceived by the elites and globalists as going from being a 2A pain to being a bigger political threat.

  14. I think the cartoonist really missed an opportunity. The NRA monster guy should be wielding a gun, not a club

  15. This twit lost all credibility with his assertion that Joker Tsarnaev was a wannabe terrorist.

The real power of the NRA is not in it’s membership rolls but in the fact that there are 140 million or so non members who support their cause morally if not financially.

  16. “I have seen the light. After all these years, I now agree that it’s fruitless to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are so obviously corrupt, so clearly malevolent, so bent on hurting innocent people for their own sick gain.”

I thought this was a piece against gun control.

  17. Once again, these folks prove our point. They’re the poisonous little tyrant wannabes the Founders had in mind when they penned th 2A. They are its very reason for being.

  18. This is why there must be no compromising on civil liberties, ever. This is just some guy talking out of his ass, but this is a strategy someone could use. Once you create a category to which Constitutional protections do not apply, those protections have become meaningless. All it takes to get around them is to stick the “undesirables” in that category and you can do as you please.

  19. They want to paint the NRA as this juggernaut of evil so all the hip kids will have a cause to fight. The typical leftist generally acts on whatever is fashionable and quickly moves on to the next hot topic. They need to make gun-control sexy again and in lieu of their definition of “good news” (a tragedy) they create the evil NRA narrative.

You see it all over now, all the bills failed because of the big bad NRA and all their money, never mind all the pro-gun Americans that wrote and called their reps every single day. The most powerful tool the NRA has is the “Write your Reps” page.

  20. Wasn’t it inevitable? I’ve always known that all of these special exceptions for terrorists would someday be used on the politically inconvenient.

I’m not all that clever, I’ve just just read “1984”.

It’s just small steps towards a death march.

This is how tyrannies have always worked.

  21. Goddamnit… I love what the NRA and other pro-2A orgs do for us, but when I go to the NRA site and the first thing I see is MrColionNoir with the catchphrase “Coloring the Issue” being thrust to the forefront, it seems less like an effort to promote an intelligent firearms enthusiast who happens to be black than a proclamation of “hey! We got a black guy to join! We’re so culturally diverse and tolerant, huh guys? Yeah, we did pretty good. Did we mention he’s black? We did good.” It’s over-the-top. Promote him as the smart gun-and-freedom-lover he is. The viewers will probably figure out that he’s black.

God Bless the NRA, I truly mean that. Maybe work on the delivery though? I’m sure Rick Ector would appreciate it too.

  22. I swear this all seems vaguely familiar:

“Perry doesn’t really make clear if he’d like to send just the NRA brass to Guantanamo or all 5 million of its members. He does point out, however, that the rest of the country has NRA members outnumbered by about 62:1.”

I submit that it’s the 5 million of us that he’d like to send away “to rot in their own mental squalor;” hell, why not make it a nice, historic number? Say, 6 million?

He needs to take this to the top; he can call it the “Final Solution” to the “Patriot Question.”

“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Sir Winston Churchill.

  23. I’m a proud defender of the 2ndA, but the NRA is a manufacturer lobby organization now, they don’t actually care about shooters at all.

Support other organizations if you can.

  24. The comon mans voice far outweigh written ant-ammendment rhetoric, complacentness of representatives, stretchin to all branches od federal goverent.

Right now 38 states, not including mine have passed or introduced “THE 2nd Amendment Protection Act” once it reaches 2/3 of the states it becomes a constitutional amendment.

Also a reconvenening of the constituional congress could be called & our state representatives, not the federal ones, will then procede to revamp completely to the original constitution.

  25. Evil Commie effing libtards. They cant wait for the next mass shooting to make their next liberty grab. If that happens then I could see libtards going to far and getting offed by fed up patriots.
Going door to door to confiscate is a dangerous game indeed.
    Seven rounds…..huh?
